Laura: I have to admit I’m in awe, I’ve never known a writer before.
Paul: Well don’t be, I don’t know any either. I haven’t written in a long time. My wife, she left me. Anyway, listen, uh, have dinner with me.

[after picking up drifter, Jack]
Jack: What do you do?
Paul: I’m a writer.
Jack: Really?

Paul: [to Jack] I don’t want you drop you with this weather coming up. I’ve got a guest room, you can use it for the night.

Paul: Thanks for breakfast.
Jack: I noticed this door has to be reframed.
Paul: You don’t have to fix anything.
Jack: Well I want to. Deal?

[to Paul; referring to Paul’s script]
Jack: Who said you could read the script?

[to Paul; referring to Paul’s script]
Jack: The stories are not good enough. I can help you.

Paul: You’d never have time to do all that.
Jack: I said it might take a little bit longer.

Paul: I heard a woman scream. You didn’t hear it?
Jack: You always tend to imagine the worst.

[referring to the tattoo on Jack’s back]
Paul: And what is that?
Jack: Black butterfly, I had it done in prison.

[as the sheriff drives up to Paul’s cabin]
Jack: Were you expecting somebody?
[Jack points his rifle at Paul as he goes to answer the door]
Jack: Paul, not too far.

Lt Carcano: Listen, we’re looking for this woman.
[shows a Paul a photo of a woman]
Lt Carcano: By any chance have you seen her?

Paul: They’re looking for you, aren’t they?
Jack: I ain’t never going back.

[after holding a knife at Paul’s throat]
Jack: I just wanted to show you something real. Sorry for the scare.

Jack: Where are you going, Paul? We had an agreement.

Paul: I heard a woman scream. I imagined that, right! I allowed you to my home, and I’m a prisoner in my own house!
Jack: Don’t make me hurt you.

Laura: I’ve been calling you for days.
Paul: We have to leave right now.

Jack: It’s your fault the sheriff’s dead. How does it feel to see a real murder?
Paul: I didn’t kill anybody, you did!

[referring to Laura who’s lying unconscious on the ground]
Paul: What did you do to her?

Jack: [to Paul] You’re finally starting to show some imagination.

Paul: Let her go, Jack! Let her go!

Jack: You still don’t get it, do you, Paul? I’m the one writing the story.
Paul: I have a better ending in mind.
