[Miguel watches an old tape of his idol Ernesto de la Cruz]
Ernesto de la Cruz: I have to sing, I have to play. The music, it’s not just in me, it is me. When life gets me down, I play my guitar. The rest of the world may follow the rules, but I must follow my heart. You know that feeling, like there’s a song in the air and it’s playing just for you.

Ernesto de la Cruz: [singing] The feeling, so close, you can reach out and touch it. I never knew I could want something so much, but it’s true.

Ernesto de la Cruz: Never underestimate the power of music. No one was going to hand me my future, it was up to me to reach for my dream, grab it tight and make it come true.

Old Man: Alright, who’s in there?
Miguel: I’m sorry.
[the old man goes straight through Miguel, as if he’s not there]
Miguel: What’s going on?
[as people keep going through Miguel as if he doesn’t exist]
Miguel: I’m just dreaming.

[seeing his dog in the Land of the Dead]
Miguel: Dante? Dante! You’ve got to stay with me, boy. We don’t know where we are.
[as he notices his surroundings for the first time]
Miguel: This isn’t a dream then.  You’re all really out there.
