Django Unchained is the new film, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel Jackson. The plot is with the help of a German bounty hunter (Waltz), a freed slave (Foxx) seeks out to rescue his wife from a plantation owner (DiCaprio).
And after sitting down and watching this film I came to the conclusion that this is a great film. The dialogue is amazing as usual in a Tarantino film, the acting is sensational especially DiCaprio as Calvin Candie which I believe should have won the Golden Globe for best supporting actor over Christoph Waltz’s Dr King Schultz. Jamie Foxx holds his own as the lead role ‘Django’. Waltz does another fantastic job in his role, to me nearly on par with his role in Inglourious Basterds that won him an Oscar. And Samuel Jackson does a great job of portraying Candie’s old house slave and they have such wonderful chemistry as do Waltz and Foxx.
The sets and locations in this film are tremendous it really does make you believe they were filming in the mid 1800’s. The same goes with the costume designs. Robert Richardson cinematography is also good with vibrant colors and great shots. It is also jam packed with laughs, there is even a cameo from Jonah Hill, and it also has scenes that will have you silent and wide eyed. The length of the movie for me is just a little bit too long, I think it could have been 20-25 minutes shorter.
Overall this movie is definitely worth a watch and has some scenes that I will not forget. It is on the list of great Tarantino films which we’ve come to expect from him now, not his best but still a fantastic film.
