[as Katniss was also stung by the tracker jackers, she starts to hallucinate and passes out, she wakes up to find leaves on her stings and sees that Rue has been caring for her]Katniss Everdeen: How long was I asleep?
Rue: Couple of days. I changed your leaves twice.
Katniss Everdeen: Thank you. So what happened while I was out?
Rue: The girl from 1 and the boy from 10.
Katniss Everdeen: And the uh...and the boy from my district?
Rue: Yeah, he's okay. I think he's down by the river.
[Katniss looks relieved]
Rue: Is all of that true?
Katniss Everdeen: What?
Rue:You and him?
[Katniss laughs]
Katniss Everdeen: So where are Cato and the others?
Rue: They got all their supplies down by the lake, piled up in this great big pyramid.
Katniss Everdeen: That sounds tempting.
[Rue and Katniss form a plan to destroy the other tributes supplies]
Katniss Everdeen: Now this green stuff is gonna smoke like crazy, so soon as you light it, move on to the next fire. Light this one last and I'll meet you back over there.
Rue: Right.
Katniss Everdeen: And then, I'll destroy their stuff while they're chasing you.
Rue: We need a signal, in case one of us gets held up.
Katniss Everdeen: Okay. Like what?
Rue: Here, watch this.
[she looks at Katniss' mockingjay pin and then sings a tune, we hear the birds in the trees sing back the same tune]
Katniss Everdeen: Mockingjays. That's great.
Rue: Back home we use them to signal all the time. You try.
[Katniss whistles a tune and the mockingjay birds sing the same tune back]
Rue: Okay. So, if we hear that it means we're okay and we'll be back real soon.
Katniss Everdeen: We're gonna be okay.
[Rue hugs Katniss tightly]
Katniss Everdeen: Hey, I'll see you for supper.
Rue: Okay.
[the two go off in different directions]
[commentating as they watch Katniss looking at the pile of supplies left by the other tributes, who are now in pursuit of Rue after she's been lighting the fires nearby]
Caesar Flickerman: I wanna see if she is gonna figure out this booby trap.
Claudius Templesmith: Yes, it seems they've reburied their mines around that big pile of goodies.
[Katniss shoots an arrow at one of the sack of supplies, releasing the items which fall to the ground and set off the booby traps]
[after blowing up the Career Tributes' stockpile, Katniss finds Rue in a trap, as she helps her to get free one of the boy tributes throws a spear which hits Rue in the chest, Katniss quickly kills the boy tribute with an arrow and tries
to comfort the dying Rue in her
arms]Katniss Everdeen: It's okay. You're okay. You're okay. You're okay.
Rue: Did you blow up the food?
Katniss Everdeen: Every bit of it.
Rue: Good. You have to win.
[Katniss looks up at the dead tribute boy who had shot the spear at Rue]
Rue: Can you sing?
Katniss Everdeen: Okay.
[Katniss holds the dying Rue and starts crying and sings to her in her last moments, after Rue dies Katniss covers her body with flowers and gives a special salute to district 11, Rue’s district]
[after Rue's death and Katniss' reaction to her death, there is a rebellious uprising in district 11; which is causing Seneca to consider killing Katniss off the show]
Haymitch Abernathy: Don't kill her. You'd just create a martyr.
Seneca Crane: Well it seems we've already got one.
Haymitch Abernathy: I hear these rumors out of district 11, this could get away from you.
Seneca Crane: What do you want?
Haymitch Abernathy: You have a lot of anger out there. I know you know how to handle a mob, you've done it before. If you can't scare them, give them something to root for.
Seneca Crane: Such as?
Haymitch Abernathy: Young love.
[Seneca takes Haymitch's proposal to create a love story between Katniss and Peeta to Snow]
President Snow: So you like an under dog?
Seneca Crane: Everyone likes an undedog.
President Snow: I don't. Have you been out there, 10, 11, 12?
Seneca Crane: Un...not personally, no.
President Snow: Well I have. There are lots of underdogs. Lots of coal too, crops, minerals, things we need. There are lots of underdogs, and I think if you could see them, you would not root for the martyr. I like you. Be careful.
[during the game, Katniss hears the following announcement being made to all tributes]
Voice of Announcer: Attention tributes. Attention. The regulations acquiring a single victor has been suspended. From now on, two victors may be crowned if both originate from the same district. This will be the only announcement.
[after hearing the announcement, Katniss finds a
wounded Peeta, disguised in
the muddy landscape, Katniss looks at his leg wound]Katniss Everdeen: What was it?
Peeta Mellark: A sword. It's bad, huh?
Katniss Everdeen: It's gonna be fine.
[Katniss tries to tend to his wound]
Peeta Mellark: Katniss.
[Katniss doesn't reply and just tends to his wound]
Peeta Mellark: Katniss.
Katniss Everdeen: No! I'm not gonna leave you. I'm not gonna do that.
Peeta Mellark: Why not?
[Katniss takes Peeta to a cave]
Katniss Everdeen: Nobody's gonna find you in here.
Peeta Mellark: They already found me.
Katniss Everdeen: We'll just get you some medicine.
Peeta Mellark: I'm not gonna get many parachutes.
Katniss Everdeen: We'll figure something out.
Peeta Mellark: Like what?
Katniss Everdeen: Something.
[she kisses Peeta on the cheek]
[after finding another sponsor gift containing soup for Peeta and note from Haymitch encouraging Katniss, Katniss feeds the soup to Peeta]
Peeta Mellark: That's nice.
Katniss Everdeen: Well, you fed me once.
Peeta Mellark: I think about that all the time. How I tossed you that bread.
Katniss Everdeen: Peeta!
Peeta Mellark: I should have gone to you, I should have just gone out in the rain and...
Katniss Everdeen: Ssh. Ssh.
[she touches his face]
Katniss Everdeen: You feel hot.
Peeta Mellark: I remember the first time I saw you. Your hair was in two braids instead of one. And I remember when you...you sang in music assembly, the teacher said; who knows The Valley song? And your hand shot straight up.
Katniss Everdeen: Peeta, stop.
Peeta Mellark: After that, I watched you going home every day. Every day.
[Katniss looks away for a moment]
Peeta Mellark: Well, say something.
Katniss Everdeen: I'm not good at saying something.
Peeta Mellark: Then come here. Please.
[she lies down next to him and he puts his arm around her]
Peeta Mellark: Even if I don't make it...
Katniss Everdeen: Ssh!
[as the gamemakers decide to make another announcement]
Voice of Announcer: Attention, tributes. Attention. Commencing at sunrise, there will be a feast tomorrow at the Cornucopia. This will be no ordinary occasion, each of you need something desperately and we plan to be generous hosts.
Katniss Everdeen: Your medicine.
Peeta Mellark: You're not going alone.
Katniss Everdeen: Yeah, you need it and you can't walk.
Peeta Mellark: Katniss, you're not gonna risk your life for me. I'm not gonna let you!
Katniss Everdeen: You would do it for me. Wouldn't you?
Peeta Mellark: Why are you doing this?
[Katniss kisses Peeta, back at district 12 Gale sees this and looks upset]
Peeta Mellark: Now there's no way I'm letting you go.
Katniss Everdeen: Peeta.
Peeta Mellark: Please. Stay.
Katniss Everdeen: Okay. I'll stay.
[she lies back in his arms again]
[seeing Peeta has got fever from infection of his wound, Katniss decides to go out to the feast at the Cornucopia to get his medicine, but as she's about to grab the medicine she gets caught by Clove who holds her at knife point]
Clove: Where's lover boy? Oh, I see. You were gonna help him. Well that's sweet! Well, it's too bad that you couldn't help your little friend. That little girl, what was her name again? Rue? Yeah, well we killed her. And now, we're gonna kill you.
[as Clove is about to kill Katniss, suddenly Thresh, from district 11, grabs Clove]
Thresh: You kill her?
Clove: No!
Thresh: I heard you!
Clove: Cato!
Thresh: You said her name!
Clove: Cato!
Thresh: You said her name!
[Katniss watches in shock as Thresh kills Clove, Thresh then turns to Katniss]
Thresh: Just this time 12! For Rue.
[Thresh leaves and Katniss quickly grabs the medicine and runs]
[Katniss runs back to the cave where she left Peeta]
Katniss Everdeen: Peeta, I got it. I got the medicine.
Katniss Everdeen: Nothing.
Peeta Mellark: No, you're not. What happened?
Katniss Everdeen: The girl from 2, she threw a knife, but I'm okay.
Peeta Mellark: You shouldn't have gone, you said you weren't gonna go.
Katniss Everdeen: You got worse.
[she puts the medicine on Peeta's wound]
Peeta Mellark: You need some of that too.
Katniss Everdeen: I'm okay.
Peeta Mellark: That feels better. Okay, now you.
Katniss Everdeen: I'm okay.
Peeta Mellark: No, come on. You need it too. Come on.
Katniss Everdeen: Alright.
[Peeta puts the medicine on her face, and everyone watches the touching scene between them]
[the next morning they wake up to find the wound on Katniss' face is gone, Katniss looks at Peeta's wound and sees that it's almost totally healed]
Katniss Everdeen: Oh, my God, Peeta!
Peeta Mellark: I can hardly feel anything.
Katniss Everdeen: We could go home. We could. We're the only team left.
Peeta Mellark: We could go home.
[they both laugh and hug each other]
[as they head off out of the cave]
Peeta Mellark: We know Thresh took off. Cato's gonna be by the Cornucopia, he's not gonna go some place he doesn't know. Fox Face, she could be anywhere.
Katniss Everdeen: We should probably hunt around here. We don't have any food left.
Peeta Mellark: Okay. Uh...I'll take the bow
[Katniss looks surprised at his comment]
Peeta Mellark: I'm just kidding. I'll locate some stuff.
[as Katniss is hunting, she hears a cannon go off and frantically looks for Peeta, as she calls out to him, Peeta suddenly he runs into her]
Peeta Mellark: You okay?
Katniss Everdeen: I heard the cannon!
[she sees that Peeta has been collecting nightlock berries, which are poisonous]
Katniss Everdeen: That's nightlock, Peeta!
[she knocks the berries out of his hand]
Katniss Everdeen: You'd be dead in a minute!
Peeta Mellark: I didn't know.
Katniss Everdeen: You scared me to death. Damn you!
[she starts to cry and hugs him tightly]
Peeta Mellark: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
[they find Fox Face dead after eating the nightlock berries that Peeta had collected]
Peeta Mellark: I never even knew she was following me.
Katniss Everdeen: She was clever.
Peeta Mellark: Too clever.
[Katniss takes the remaining nightlock berries form]
Peeta Mellark: What are you doing?
Katniss Everdeen: Maybe Cato likes berries too.
[as they walk in through the jungle it starts to get dark]
Peeta Mellark: What time is it?
Katniss Everdeen: A little after noon.
Peeta Mellark: Why is it getting so dark?
Katniss Everdeen: They must be in a hurry to end it.
[after Cato kills Thresh, to make the finale exciting, Seneca puts ferocious dogs in the arena, this forces Katniss, Peeta and Cato to run towards the Cornucopia, but Cato grabs Peeta in a headlock and Katniss poises her arrow ready to shoot]
Cato: Go on, shoot. And we'd both go down and you'd win.
[Katniss hesitates]
Cato: Go on. I'm dead anyway! I always was, right? I didn't know that until now. Isn't that what they want, huh?
[Katniss gets ready to shoot but Cato holds Peeta tighter]
Cato: No! I can still do this. I can still do this. One more kill. It's the only thing I know how to do. Bring pride to my district. Not that it matters.
[at that moment Peeta mouths to Katniss to shoot and Peeta springs out of his grasp, Cato falls off the Cornucopia and the dogs start to devour him, in an act of mercy Katniss shoots Cato]
[believing that they have won, Katniss and Peeta hug and the arena is turned to day again, they wait for confirmation and an announcement is made again]
Voice of Announcer: Attention. Attention, tributes. There's been a slight rule change. The previous revision allowing for two victories from the same district has been revoked. Only one victor may be crowned. Good luck. And may the odds be ever in your favor.
Peeta Mellark: Go ahead. One of us should go home. One of has to die, they have to have their victor.
Katniss Everdeen: No.
[she throws her bow and arrow down and walks towards Peeta]
Katniss Everdeen: They don't. Why should they?
[she takes out the nightlock berries she'd taken from Fox Face's hand earlier]
Peeta Mellark: No!
Katniss Everdeen: Trust me. Trust me.
[she gives Peeta half of the berries]
Peeta Mellark: Together?
Katniss Everdeen: Together.
Peeta Mellark: Okay. One.
Katniss Everdeen: Two.
Peeta Mellark: Three.
[just as they are about to eat the berries the voice of the announcer stops them]
Voice of Announcer: Stop! Stop! Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the winners of the 74th annual Hunger Games.
[on hearing this Katniss hugs Peeta]
[after returning to the Capitol, Haymitch warns Katniss]
Haymitch Abernathy: They're not happy with you.
Katniss Everdeen: Why? Because I didn't die?
Haymitch Abernathy: Because you showed them up.
Katniss Everdeen: Well, I'm sorry it didn't go the way they planned. You know, I'm not very happy with them either.
Haymitch Abernathy: Katniss, this is serious. Not just for you. They don't take these things lightly.
[Haymitch instructs Katniss as she and Peeta are to be interviewed by Flickerman]
Haymitch Abernathy: When they ask, you say you couldn't help yourself. You...you are so in love with this boy that the thought of not being with him was unthinkable. You...you'd rather die than not be with him. You understand?
[Flickerman interviews Katniss and Peeta]
Caesar Flickerman: How did you feel when you found him by that river?
Katniss Everdeen: I felt like the happiest person in the world. I couldn't imagine life without him.
[she turns to look at Peeta sat next to her and Peeta takes her hand]
Caesar Flickerman: And what about you, Peeta?
Peeta Mellark: She saved my life.
Katniss Everdeen: We saved each other.
[the audience sighs]
Caesar Flickerman: Ladies and gentlemen, the start crossed lovers, from district 12. This year's victors, of the 74th annual Hunger Games!
[the audience cheers for them]
[at the victors crowning ceremony, President snow places the crown on Katniss]
President Snow: Congratulations.
Katniss Everdeen: Thank you.
[Snow glances down and notices Katniss' mockingjay pin on her dress]
President Snow: What a lovely pin.
Katniss Everdeen: Thank you. It's from my district.
President Snow: They must be very proud of you.
[last lines; as Katniss and Peeta take the train back to district 12]
Peeta Mellark: So what happens when we get back?
Katniss Everdeen: I don't know. I guess we try to forget.
Peeta Mellark: I don't wanna forget.
[at district 12 they are greeted by a cheering crowd, Katniss spots Gale with Prim on his shoulders and smiles at him, Peeta sees this and takes her hand and holds it up making the crowd cheer louder, Snow watches this from the Capitol with disapproval and walks off]
