Story: Bio-drama written and directed by Cynthia Mort making her directorial debut in which the film focuses late jazz musician, classical pianist and civil rights activist Nina Simone (Zoe Saldana). The story is largely centered around Simone’s rise to fame and her relationship with her former nurse-turned-manager Clifton Henderson (David Oyelowo).

Nina Simone: I’m tired.


Henri Edwards: No one wants to see her play the way she is now.


Nina Simone: I won’t make it.
Clifton Henderson: Yes, you will. I need you to help me make this happen.
Nina Simone: I’ll try.


Clifton Henderson: She needs this.


Nina Simone: I feel free.
Clifton Henderson: You’re astonishing.


Clifton’s Mom: This song kept us marching, made me believe we had a chance.


Interviewer: What is freedom to you?
Nina Simone: I’ll tell you what freedom means to me, no fear! If I didn’t have that for half of my life, no fear is the only way that I could describe it.


Henri Edwards: Everyone thinks that you are crazy.
[Nina laughs]
