Psychological thriller directed by Farren Blackburn which follows widowed child psychologist, Mary Portman (Naomi Watts), who lives in an isolated existence in rural New England with her disabled son Steven Portman, (Charlie Heaton).

After Mary decides to take on a new client, Tom Patterson (Jacob Tremblay), he disappears from her home in a deadly snowstorm. Soon Mary begins having nightmares and she starts to wonder if Tom is haunting her.

Mary Portman: I feel so guilty.
Dr. Wilson: You cannot blame yourself.


Mary Portman: I haven’t been sleeping that well. I saw Tom, but everybody’s been saying that he’s dead.


Dr. Wilson: Your sleep problems are making it difficult for you to distinguish your nightmares from reality.
Mary Portman: No, something is happening! Steven has scratches on his face!
Dr. Wilson: Listen to what you’re saying, you’re talking about ghosts!


Mary Portman: Something’s going on and not just in my head, I can prove it!


Mary Portman: [to Steven] I’m going to get you out of here.


Mary Portman: You have to believe me, it’s real!
