Historical drama directed and co-written by Martin Scorsese which was inspired by the true story of Cristóvão Ferreira, a Portuguese Jesuit missionary who renounced his religion after being persecuted.

Set in the seventeenth century, the film follows two young Portuguese Jesuit priests, Father Sebastião Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Father Francisco Garrpe (Adam Driver), who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan, at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden, to locate their mentor, Father Cristóvão Ferreira (Liam Neeson), who had committed apostasy after he had been tortured by the country’s population.

Best Quotes from Trailer:

Father Alessandro Valignano: Ferreira is lost to us. He denounced God in public and surrendered the faith.
Father Francisco Garrpe: That’s not possible. Father Ferreira risked his life to spread our faith all over Japan.
Father Sebastião Rodrigues: It seems to me that our  mission here is more urgent than ever, we must go find Father Ferreira.

Father Alessandro Valignano: This is in your hearts then, both of you.
Father Sebastião Rodrigues: Yes.
Father Alessandro Valignano: Then I must trust God has put it down.

[to Rodrigues and Garrpe]
Father Alessandro Valignano: The moment you set foot in that country, you step into high danger.

Inquisitor Inoue: [to Rodrigues] The price for your glory is their suffering.

Father Francisco Garrpe: It’s too dangerous.
Father Sebastião Rodrigues: We asked for this mission.

Father Sebastião Rodrigues: I pray but I’m lost. Am I just praying to silence?
