Whoever created the trailers for Super 8 did a terrible job. OK, I get it, they were trying to use the "aura of mystery" thing that they did for Cloverfield but it didn't work for this movie. The trailers made it seem stupid and childish and I was surprised when I saw that it received a pg-13 rating, however that motivated me to go and see it despite my previous concerns, and besides it was directed by J.J. Abrams so how bad could it possibly be?

Well to be honest it exceeded my expectations in every way. The train crash was absolutely epic. The acting wasn't all that bad, and they even got the kids' attitudes right! Meaning that these kids actually cussed which is... let's face it: realistic. The only dumb part in this movie was the end; it just seemed stupid after all the suspense and even scariness that it would end as lightly as it did. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this movie enough to give it a solid 4/5 stars.

Super 8 Movie

I saw this movie with my family. I had a feeling I would dislike it because of the nature of the plot (lots of movies with area 51 type theme lately). Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams I thought, would in the end create a good movie. It was entertaining and funny. I kept thinking wow; this is surprisingly a good movie. It had a lot of suspense.

About halfway through the movie, I lost interest because it seemed to me as if they were trying every trick to capture the audience and I felt it was rather cheesy at certain points. The kids were beginning to do things that was rather silly, and the alien (sorry trying not to spoil) had a lack of background besides, well, being an alien from outer space. It kind of reminded me of that movie Signs with Mel Gibson. Overall, I love JJ and Spielberg but I wish they invested their time in a more serious rather than silly movie where the audience can capture morals and feel some importance for the time they spent viewing.

I have given the movie a 3 star rating as I was expecting more from a Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams movie. It's not that the movie was that bad and I wasn't entertained, only that I expected something more.
