Starring: Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Édgar Ramírez, Lisa Kudrow
OUR RATING: ★★☆☆☆
Story: Thriller directed by Tate Taylor in which the story centers on Rachel (Emily Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce from Tom (Justin Theroux). She spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple, Megan and Scott Hipwell (Luke Evans and Hayley Bennett), who live in a house that her train passes every day. However, one morning Rachel sees something shocking happen during the train’s routine stop and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds involving the disappearance of a woman.
Verdict: This was one of those movies that was on my must-watch list, not because I had the read the book but because the premise sounded so interesting and the actors involved. I came out of it though feeling so disappointed as the whole movie felt like a missed opportunity. Nothing in this movie really worked for me other than Emily Blunt’s acting, everything else felt hollow and pointless. I felt no empathy for any of the characters, so this made it doubly hard to care about anything happening on the screen and it dragged so badly. Overall it just felt like it was trying to be this year’s Gone Girl and sadly it missed.
