walk-1

Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon, James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Steve Valentine

OUR RATING: ★★★½

Story: Directed by Robert Zemeckis based on the true story of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit’s (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on August 7, 1974.

Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan.

Verdict: Technically amazing film to watch with a relatively straightforward story given it’s subject matter. It is a pretty upbeat film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is great although it took a while for me to get used to his accent. This may not become Robert Zemeckis’s most memorable film but it is non the less very entertaining and beautifully made.

Philippe Petit: Yes, I’m a mad man. But this…this is my dream.
Annie Allix: Then if it’s your dream you must do it.

Philippe Petit: I am not going to do this walk with a safety line hanging off from me!
Papa Rudy: From that height it will be invisible, no one will have any idea!

Philippe Petit: Years ago you told me something I always remember. You said you cannot lie on stage, the audience will always know what is inside your heart.
