Starring: Bryan Cranston, Helen Mirren, Diane Lane, Elle Fanning, Louis C.K., John Goodman, Alan Tudyk, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Michael Stuhlbarg

Story: Biographical drama which follows the successful career of 1940s screenwriter Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) and explores how it all came to a crushing end when he and other Hollywood figures are blacklisted for their political beliefs and how Trumbo fights against the U.S. government and studio bosses in a war over words and freedom, which entangled everyone in Hollywood from Hedda Hopper (Helen Mirren) and John Wayne to Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger.

Verdict: This is pretty much an uninspired biopic, there’s nothing new here that you haven’t seen in any typical biopic movie. The one thing that elevated it above the rest is Bryan Cranstone’s brilliant performance, but the way the story is presented is a real let down as it had potential to be so much more.
