X-Men: First Class Quotes(Page 2)
Charles Xavier: They’re just kids.
Erik Lehnsherr: No. They were kids. Shaw has his army. We need ours.
[Charles turns to the others]
Charles Xavier: We’ll have to train. All of us. Yes?
Alex Summers: Yeah.
Hank McCoy: We can’t stay here. Even if they re-opened the department, it’s not safe. We’ve got nowhere to go.
Charles Xavier: Yes, we do.
[as they’re looking at Emma locked in an interrogation room through the two way mirror]
William Stryker Sr.: There’s a war coming, John.
CIA Director McCone: Yes. But a war with who?
[Emma hearing everything are saying walks to the mirror, cuts through the glass and replies]
Emma Frost: Excellent question. Though I wouldn’t call it a war exactly. That suggests both sides stand an equal chance of winning.
[as they all looking at Charles’s family home]
Sean Cassidy: This is yours?
Charles Xavier: No. It’s ours.
Erik Lehnsherr: [sarcastically] Honestly, Charles, I don’t know how you survived. Living in such hardship.
Raven: Well, it was a hardship softened by me.
[as he’s pointing a gun at Erik’s head]
Charles Xavier: You sure?
Erik Lehnsherr: I’m sure.
Charles Xavier: Got it.
[he goes to pull the trigger and can’t]
Charles Xavier: No! No, I can’t! I’m sorry. I can’t shoot anybody in point blank, let alone my friend.
Erik Lehnsherr: Oh, come on! You know I can deflect it.
[he takes Charles’s hand that’s holding the gun and points the gun at his head again]
Erik Lehnsherr: You’re always telling me I should push myself.
Charles Xavier: If you know you can deflect it, then you’re not challenging yourself! Whatever happened to the man who’s…who’s trying to raise a submarine?
Erik Lehnsherr: Well, I can’t! Something that big, I…I need the situation, the anger.
Charles Xavier: No, the anger is not enough.
Erik Lehnsherr: Well, it’s gotten the job done all this time.
Charles Xavier: It’s nearly gotten you killed all this time.
[as he’s about to start his training]
Alex Summers: You know, when I do this bad things tend to happen.
Charles Xavier: That’s because you can’t control it. It controls you. That’s why we’re here, Alex. That’s why we’re training.
[to Sean as he shatters a large glass by using his power]
Charles Xavier: What you’re doing is incredible. You’re hitting a pitch with sound waves at the same resolute frequency as the glass. That’s why it shattered. But this…
[pointing to his larynx]
Charles Xavier: …is like any other muscle in the body. You can control it.
Charles Xavier: In each of us, two natures are at war.
Hank McCoy: Robert Louis Stevenson; Jekyll and Hyde.
Charles Xavier: Top marks. The story wasn’t about good and evil though, was it Hank? It was about man’s animal nature and his struggle to control it, to conform. And it’s that struggle which is holding you back.
Hank McCoy: No. Jekyll was afraid of what he could be capable of.
Charles Xavier: And you are too.
[sitting at the edge of a windowsill and wearing Hanks’ manmade wings]
Charles Xavier: Now remember, scream as hard as you can.
Hank McCoy: You need the sound waves to be supersonic. Catch them at the right angle and they should carry you.
Sean Cassidy: They should carry me. That’s reassuring.
Charles Xavier: Good luck. And don’t forget to scream.
[he crosses himself and falls off the windowsill with a pitiful scream]
[to Hank as they get ready for a running race]
Charles Xavier: If you wanna beat me this time, you have to set the beast free. On your marks. Get set. Go!
[they set off running with Hank easily overtaking Charles]
[after overtaking Charles during their run and finishing a lap round the ground in minutes]
Charles Xavier: Congratulations my friend! Robert Louis Stevenson would have been proud.
Alex Summers: Impressive, Hank. Feet like those, all you need is a red nose. Right Bozo?
Hank McCoy: I’m done here.
Charles Xavier: Thank you, Alex.
[whilst Raven is lifting weights, Erik uses his power to lift the barbell high above her head]
Erik Lehnsherr: If you’re using half your concentration to look normal, then you’re only half paying attention to whatever else you’re doing. Just pointing out something that could save your life.
[the barbells suddenly drop and Raven shape shifts to her natural blue form to catch it]
Erik Lehnsherr: You want society to accept you, but you can’t even accept yourself.
[to Raven as he’s looking at her cells through a microscope]
Hank McCoy: You gotta see this. You’re genes are extraordinary, you know that? You’re cells age at half the rate of a normal female. When you’re forty, you’ll still have the look of a teenager. You…you have the most incredible cellular structure I’ve ever seen.
[standing on top off a ladder at the edge of a giant satellite dish]
Sean Cassidy: You truly believe I’ll fly this time?
Charles Xavier: Unreservedly.
Sean Cassidy: I trust you.
Charles Xavier: I’m touched.
[referring to Hank]
Sean Cassidy: I don’t trust him.
Charles Xavier: [to Hank] Say nothing.
Sean Cassidy: I’m gonna die!
Charles Xavier: All right. Look, we’re not gonna make you do anything you don’t feel comfortable with, all right?
Erik Lehnsherr: Here let me help.
[Erik pushes Sean off the ladder making Sean to scream and using his powers to fly]
Charles Xavier: Erik!
[Charles gives Erik a look as Sean is flying around them]
Erik Lehnsherr: What? You know you were thinking the same.
Charles Xavier: You see that?
[pointing to a giant satellite dish a few miles away from them]
Charles Xavier: Try turning it to face us.
[Erik puts his hands up and tries using his power to turn the dish but fails]
Charles Xavier: You know, I believe that true focus lies somewhere between rage and serenity. Would you mind if I…?
[wiggles his fingers meaning he wants to go into Erik’s head]
[after Charles has made Erik remember a long forgotten memory of his mother]
Erik Lehnsherr: What did you just do to me?
Charles Xavier: I accessed the brightest corner of your memory system. It’s a very beautiful memory, Erik. Thank you.
Erik Lehnsherr: I didn’t know I still had that.
Charles Xavier: There’s so much more to you than you know. Not just pain and anger. There’s good to you, I felt it. And when you can access all that, you’ll possess a power no one can match. Not even me. So, come on. Try again?
[Erik uses his power to move the giant satellite and this time succeeds in turning it]
[as they’re listening to President Kennedy’s speech on TV about the Cuba missile crisis]
Erik Lehnsherr: That’s where we’re gonna find Shaw.
Alex Summers: How do you know?
Charles Xavier: Two super powers facing off, and he wants to start world war three. He won’t leave anything to chance.
Erik Lehnsherr: So much for diplomacy.
[turning to Raven, Alex. Hank and Sean]
Erik Lehnsherr: I suggest you all get a good night’s sleep.
Hank McCoy: I have a surprise for you.
[he gives her box, she opens it to find to syringes with a green substance in them]
Hank McCoy: I…isolated the right marker in your DNA sample. The serum works like an anti-biotic, attacking the cells that cause our physical mutation. It won’t affect our abilities, just our appearance.
[Raven silently looks at Hank]
Hank McCoy: You do still wanna do this?
Raven: Should we have to hide?
Hank McCoy: Well, you already do. You’re hiding right now, like I have my whole life. I don’t wanna feel like a freak all the time. I just wanna look…
Hank McCoy: Yeah.
[Hank takes one of the syringes ready to inject himself]
Raven: Hank, don’t! You’re beautiful, Hank. Everything you are, you’re perfect. Look at all of us? Look at all we’ve achieved this week? All we will achieve? We are different. But we shouldn’t be trying to fit into society. Society should aspire to be more like us. Mutant and proud.
[she shape shifts to her natural blue form]
Hank McCoy: Well then, it behooves me to tell you, that even if we save the world tomorrow, and mutants are accepted into society, that my feet and your natural blue form will never be deemed beautiful.
[she shape shifts back into her human form]
Hank McCoy: You look more beautiful now. We need this cure.
[he gets up and leaves her room]
Charles Xavier: Cuba, Russia, America. Makes no difference. Shaw’s declared war on mankind. On all of us. He has to be stopped.
Erik Lehnsherr: I’m not gonna stop Shaw. I’m gonna kill him. Do you have it in you to allow that?
[Charles doesn’t answer]
Erik Lehnsherr: You’ve known all along why I was here, Charles. But things have changed. What started as a covert mission, tomorrow mankind will know that mutants exist. Shaw, us, they won’t differentiate. They’ll fear us. And that fear will turn to hatred.
Charles Xavier: Not if we stop a war. Not if we can prevent Shaw. Not if we risk our lives doing so.
Erik Lehnsherr: Will they do the same for us?
Charles Xavier: We have it in us to be the better men.
Erik Lehnsherr: We already are! We’re the next stage of human evolution. You said it yourself?
Charles Xavier: No! No!
Erik Lehnsherr: Are you really so naive, as to think that they won’t battle their own extinction? Or is it arrogance?
Charles Xavier: I’m sorry?
Erik Lehnsherr: After tomorrow, they’re gonna turn us. But you’re blind to it, because you believe they’re all like Moira.
Charles Xavier: You believe they’re all like Shaw.
Charles Xavier: Listen to me very carefully my friend. Killing Shaw will not bring you peace.
Erik Lehnsherr: Peace was never an option.
[Erik enters his room to find a naked Raven under the covers in his bed]
Erik Lehnsherr: Well, this is a surprise.
Raven: The nice kind?
Erik Lehnsherr: Get out, Raven. I wanna go to bed. Maybe in a few years.
[Raven shape shifts into looking like a more older version of her human form]
Raven: How about now?
Erik Lehnsherr: I prefer the real Raven.
[Raven shape shifts to her younger human form again]
Erik Lehnsherr: I said the real Raven.
[Raven shape shifts into her natural blue form]
Erik Lehnsherr: Perfection.
Raven: Could you pass me my robe?
Erik Lehnsherr: You don’t have to hide. Have you ever looked at a tiger and thought you ought to cover it up?
Raven: No. But…
Erik Lehnsherr: You’re an exquisite creature, Raven. All your life the world’s tried to tame you. It’s time for you to be free.
[he leans forward and kisses her]
Raven: You know, sometimes I wonder what my life would have been like if you hadn’t found me here that night?
Charles Xavier: Sorry, what? You…aahh!
[Charles look over at her and sees Raven is naked and in her natural blue form]
Charles Xavier: For God’s sake, Raven! Where are your clothes? Put…put…put some clothes on.
Raven: That’s not what you said when you first saw me. But I guess pets are always cuter when they’re little, right?
Charles Xavier: Raven, I don’t know what’s gotten into you lately. I thought you’d be in a good mood. Hank, tells me that he’s found the answer to your cosmetic problem.
Charles Xavier: You’re gonna tell me what’s the matter, or do I have read your mind?
Raven: You promised me you’d never do that.
Charles Xavier: Until recently, I never had to use my power to know what you were thinking, Raven.
Raven: You know Charles, I used to think it was gonna be you and me against the world. But no matter how bad the world gets, you don’t want to be against it, do you? You wanna be a part of it.
[she gets up and turns and leaves]
[looking inside the box Hank had left for them in his lab]
Erik Lehnsherr: Hank has been busy.
Sean Cassidy: Do we really have to wear these?
Charles Xavier: As none of mutated to endure extreme G-force or being riddled by bullets, I suggest we suit up.
Raven: Where’s Hank?
Hank McCoy: I’m here.
[they look over and see a shape walking towards them]
Charles Xavier: Hank?
[as Hank gets closer we see his form has changed to looking like a blue beast]
Hank McCoy: It didn’t attack the cells. It enhanced them. It didn’t work.
Raven: Yes it did, Hank. Don’t you see? This is who you were meant to be. This is you. No more hiding.
[referring to Hanks new mutant form]
Erik Lehnsherr: Never looked better, man,
[Hank suddenly gets hold of Erik’s throat, lifts and strangles him]
Charles Xavier: Hank?
Hank McCoy: Don’t mock me!
Charles Xavier: Hank, put him down immediately, please? Hank! Hank!
[Hank let’s go of Erik]
Erik Lehnsherr: I wasn’t!
Alex Summers: Even I gotta admit, you look pretty bad-ass. I think I got a new name for you.
[Hank looks at Alex]
Alex Summers: Beast.
