Western thriller written and directed by Nia DaCosta in her directorial debut. Set in Little Woods, North Dakota, a fracking boomtown well beyond its prime. The story follows two sisters, Ollie and Deb (Tessa Thompson and Lily James). Ollie is trying to survive the last few days of her probation after getting caught illegally running prescription pills over the Canadian border.
But when her mother dies, she is thrust back into the life of her estranged sister Deb, who is facing her own crisis with an unplanned pregnancy and a deadbeat ex. The two find they have one week to settle the mortgage on their mother’s house or face foreclosure. As bills and pressure mount, Ollie faces a choice: whether to return to a way of life she thought she’d left behind for just one more score or to leave it all behind.
Deb: What went wrong last time when you got caught?
Ollie: I forgot to be scared because I liked it too much.
Carter: [to Ollie] Do you ever think about leaving? You’re so close. Please stay out of trouble.
Deb: What if I lost my insurance?
Clinic Receptionist: The pregnancy and birth is going to be about eight or nine thousand.
Deb: The closet place for an abortion she said.
Ollie: Where is it?
Deb: Hundreds of miles away.
Bank Manager: I’m sorry, it’s been a rough time for a lot of people.
Ollie: Trust me, if you saw the house, you’d pay us to keep it.
Deb: Where are you going to get the money, Ollie?
Ollie: I’ll figure something out.
Ollie: [to Ian] You said if I wanted back in to come see you.
Ollie: So you could move say five hundred pills?
Ian: Five hundred pills.
Ollie: Everyday I’m with mom, and she’s dying, and all I can do is get her some medication so it hurts less.
Ollie: [to Deb] It’s not what I wanted, alright, it just kind of turned into this.
Deb: Can you do this without getting caught?
Deb: Are you sure?
Ollie: Of course not.
Bill: I know you’re selling again, and I don’t appreciate losing customers because you decided to get back in the business.
Ollie: I don’t know who told you…
[he suddenly grabs her and slams her against the wall]
Deb: I heard you got a procedure done around here. We’re not trying to get anyone in trouble.
Jenny: Yeah, well, you ain’t got to try.
Deb: It’s not too late to back out.
Deb: [to Ollie] Well, it didn’t exactly go like we planned.
Ollie: Everything is a mess and I’m always the one that has to clean it up!
