Animated comedy adventure written and directed by Chris Butler. The story follows Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman), a brave and dashing adventurer, the world’s foremost investigator of myths and monsters. He sets off on an adventure to the Pacific Northwest to prove the existence of a legendary creature, Mr. Link (Zach Galifianakis).
As species go, he’s as endangered as they get, he’s possibly the last of his kind, he’s lonely, and he believes that Sir Lionel is the one man alive who can help him. Proposing a daring quest to find his rumored distant relatives, he enlists the help of Sir Lionel, and Adelina Fortnight (Zoe Saldana), a free-spirited, independent adventurer who possesses the only known map to their secret destination, in an odyssey around the world to find the fabled valley of Shangri-La.
Sir Lionel Frost: I offer you a glimpse of a legendary creature lost in time. Neither ape nor man, but a giant. He’s had many names.
Sir Lionel Frost: I’ll bring back proof of the greatest discovery of the century.
Mr. Link: Excuse me. Hi.
Sir Lionel Frost: You can speak?!
Mr. Link: Yes, and, um, I write as well.
[he holds up the letter he’d written to Sir Lionel]
Mr. Link: My penmanship isn’t great, but, uh, you know, opposable thumbs and fat fingers, you know.
[Sir Lionel starts laughing about Mr. Link’s name]
Sir Lionel Frost: You know, like “missing link”.
Mr. Link: Ah. Wait, I don’t get it.
[as Sir Lionel is taking his measurements]
Mr. Link: More like six hundred and thirty pounds. You know, it’s the hair that makes me look heavier I think. It’s a little deceptive, it’s really frustrating.
Mr. Link: [to Sir Lionel] Oh. Wait a second, I said, “Oh,” like I knew what you were talking about, but I don’t.
Mr. Link: Actually I go by Susan.
Sir Lionel Frost: Su… Susan?
Mr. Link: Yeah. Susan.
Sir Lionel Frost: That is a girl’s name.
Mr. Link: Yes, that’s correct.
Sir Lionel Frost: It suits you.
Mr. Link: I need someone who knows the wild places of the world, and you’re the world’s greatest adventurer.
Sir Lionel Frost: What exactly do you ask of me?
Mr. Link: I’m lonely. I’m the last of my kind, but on the other side of the world they talk of this creature…
Sir Lionel Frost: The yeti.
Mr. Link: I think these yetis are my cousins. Can you take me there?
Sir Lionel Frost: I give you my word.
Mr. Link: Okay, what is it?
Sir Lionel Frost: What?
Mr. Link: Your word.
Sir Lionel Frost: No, it’s a figure of speech.
Mr. Link: Sounds good. What is it?
Sir Lionel Frost: [to Link] We have a long way to go. We’ll need a map.
Mr. Link: We aren’t going to break in, are we?
Sir Lionel Frost: Climb the wall and pull me up.
[as he goes to climb up the wall, he trips and breaks through the wall instead]
Sir Lionel Frost: Bravo.
Mr. Link: Thank you.
Sir Lionel Frost: Now to find the place you belong, you’ll need to keep a low profile.
[as they walk into a bar, Link drops he’s cloak, the bar patrons are shocked]
Mr. Link: Um…
Man: A monster!
[after he’s hit a man through the window]
Mr. Link: Oh, boy. That is going to let in an awful draft.
Adelina Fortnight: So let me see if I understand. You plan to travel around the world to the home of the yeti. I know the secret ways to the mountains.
[as they are sat in a train]
Mr. Link: Is it hot in here?
Sir Lionel Frost: By all means, crack open the win…
[suddenly Mr. Link smashes the train window with his fist to crack it open]
Sir Lionel Frost: …dow.
Mr. Link: Oh, that’s better.
[as they are about to visit Gamu]
Tribeswoman: Whatever you do, do not mention the chicken.
Mr. Link: No chicken. Got it. Zip.
[we see them greet Gamu]
Sir Lionel Frost: Greetings, venerable Gamu.
Adelina Fortnight: It is an honor.
Mr. Link: What’s with the chicken?
[as Mr. Link tears off his shirt to reveal himself and old tribeswoman yells in horror and passes out]
Mr. Link: Um…
Tribeswoman: You have killed my grandmother!
Adelina Fortnight: Quick, quick, quick, someone should give her the kiss of life!
[they both look at the unconscious older woman; to Mr. Link]
Sir Lionel Frost: You’re the man for the job.
Mr. Link: How’s my breath?
Sir Lionel Frost: Throw me out of the pit.
Mr. Link: I think you might be a little too heavy.
Sir Lionel Frost: Nonsense. Now, give it all you’ve got.
[Mr. Link throws him and Sir Lionel smashes into the ice wall and slides down]
Mr. Link: Ooph. It’s hard to know who’s fault that was. Let’s do it again.
Sir Lionel Frost: It will not be easy, but we will find your place.
Mr. Link: Shangri-La!
Creature: We call it…
[she roars really loudly]
Sir Lionel Frost: What does it mean?
Creature: “Keep out. We hate you.”
