John Reid: There are moments in a rock star’s life that define who he is. Where there is darkness there is now you, and it’s going to be a wild ride.
Elton John: [to Bernie] I could hear the whole tune in my head. It was all there, I could see all the notes and I just had to get it out.
Ray Williams: [to Elton] What did you say your name was again?
Elton John: My name is Reginald Dwight.
Mary: Reginald? That’s my grandad’s name.
Elton John: So how does a fat boy from nowhere get to be a soul man?
Wilson: You got to kill the person you were born to be in order to become the person you want to be.
Elton John: I’m thinking of changing my name to Elton?
Elton Dean: That’s my name.
Elton John: Yeah, I know.
John Reid: [to Elton] You could be the bestselling artist in America if you desire.
Dick James: [to Elton] It’s time to do something bold. Buy yourself something flashy.
Dick James: [to Elton] Let them know who you are, and just don’t kill yourself with drugs.
[as Elton is buying some platform shoes]
Bernie Taupin: Can you even play the piano in those?
Bernie Taupin: So how does it feel to be a star?
Elton John: It’s never going to last.
Bernie Taupin: Let’s just enjoy it while we can.
Party Guest: [to Elton] What a shy little boy you were. Look at you now.
Sheila Eileen: [to Elton] I just hope you realize you’re choosing a life of being alone forever.
Bernie Taupin: Don’t you want to just sing without this ridiculous paraphernalia?
Elton John: People don’t pay to see Reg Dwight! They pay to see Elton John!
[walks off in anger, pauses, then turns back]
Elton John: I’m sorry.
Bernie Taupin: I know.
Elton John: Do you even care how much pressure I’m under?
Dick James: Not really. I’ll still be collecting my twenty percent long after you’ve killed yourself.
Elton John: Maybe I should have tried to be more ordinary.
Bernie Taupin: You were never ordinary.
Bernie Taupin: [to Elton] The joy, in sorrow, you turn it into songs that people love.
