Crime drama written and directed by Robert Budreau. Based on the true story of the 1973 bank heist and hostage crisis in Stockholm. The story follows Lars Nystrom (Ethan Hawke), who raids a central Stockholm bank and takes hostages, including wife and mother, Bianca (Noomi Rapace), in order to spring his pal, Gunnar Sorensson (Mark Strong), from prison. As negotiations with detectives deteriorates the hostages develop an uneasy relationship with their captor, which is particularly complex for Bianca, who develops a strong bond with Lars as she witnesses his caring nature, giving rise to the psychological phenomenon known as “Stockholm Syndrome.”
[after raiding the bank; on the phone to the detectives]
Detective: Ask him what they want?
Bianca Lind: [to Lars] He’s asking what you want.
Lars Nystrom: I want them here in ten minutes, or I shoot you in the face, and then hang up.
Bianca Lind: He wants you here in ten minutes, or he shoots me in the face.
[she hangs up the phone]
Lars Nystrom: Was he surprised? I mean, did he sound surprised?
Detective Jackobsson: An American with machine gun has taken over Kreditbanken.
Chief Mattsson: Kreditbanken?
[after Lars has made the hostages get on the ground; a man goes over to a woman lying on the ground]
Man: You’ve been shot.
Lars Nystrom: She hasn’t been shot! She’s obviously got a muscle cramp or something. Get her a banana, and get everybody on the ground!
Lars Nystrom: We will let the ladies go, when it’s over.
Chief Mattsson: You want money?
Lars Nystrom: One million US dollars, and a Mustang 302, like Steve McQueen had in Bullet.
Chief Mattsson: Yeah, I like that movie.
Gunnar Sorensson: Did you disable the cameras?
Lars Nystrom: You think I should have?
Bianca Lind: [to Lars] Have you done this before?
Bianca Lind: [to Lars] You and the others will survive and I can go home.
Lars Nystrom: Do I look like an idiot?
Reporter: The girls, have they been harmed?
Chief Mattsson: Yes.
[listening to Mattesson’s interview on the radio]
Klara Mardh: Why would they say that?
Gunnar Sorensson: The cops lie to get what they want.
[referring to the radio]
Lars Nystrom: Turn that off! God!
[referring to Lars; on the phone to her husband]
Bianca Lind: He let me call. He didn’t have too.
Bianca Lind: [to Bianca] You’re unbelievably brave, you know.
[being interviewed over the phone by TV reporter]
Vincent: All of Sweden would like to know, what is it like being stuck in there with those criminals?
Bianca Lind: It’s not too bad.
Vincent: Would you trust him?
Bianca Lind: More than we trust our police.
Bianca Lind: If the police comes in, and they start shooting, he will shoot back!
[referring to hostages]
Chief Mattsson: If they want our help they need to show some respect!
Gunnar Sorensson: I’m not going back to prison!
Lars Nystrom: Okay, I’ve got to kill someone.
Bianca Lind: What?
[referring to Lars]
Gunnar Sorensson: He’s like a child!
