Starring: Benedict Cumberbatch
Animated comedy directed by Yarrow Cheney and Scott Mosier and co-written by Mosier. The story follows The Grinch (Benedict Cumberbatch), a cynical grump who lives a solitary life inside a cave on Mt. Crumpet with only his loyal dog, Max, for company. The Grinch only sees his neighbors in Who-ville when he runs out of food. Each year at Christmas they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their increasingly bigger, brighter and louder celebrations.
When the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to gain some peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas. To do so, he decides he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Meanwhile, down in Who-ville, Cindy-Lou Who, a young girl overflowing with holiday cheer, plots with her gang of friends to trap Santa Claus as he makes his Christmas Eve rounds so that she can thank him for help for her overworked single mother. As Christmas approaches, however, her good-natured scheme threatens to collide with the Grinch’s more nefarious one.
Whoville Resident: The mayor wants Christmas to be three times bigger this year.
Grinch: For fifty-three years, Christmas has brought me nothing but misery. I know just what to do. I become Santa Clause to steal their Christmas. If he could deliver it one night, then I can steal it. What’s Santa has that I don’t?
[Max barks his reply]
Grinch: That’s hurtful.
[as Max is barking at the birds]
Grinch: Max, stop socializing. Now let’s go in for a look.
[as Max is flying over Who-ville with a camera strapped on him so that Grinch can spy on them]
Grinch: Watch out. Christmas already? Argh!
[referring to the children posing for a photo]
Grinch: Look at those greedy little gift monsters.
[as he sees himself on his tablet]
Grinch: Oh, hey, look, it’s me.
[Max suddenly crashed into him]
Grinch: I know what to do. I’m going to steal their Christmas.
[to Max; as Grinch and Max are walking to the store in Who-ville]
Grinch: Today we will do mean things, and we will do them in style!
[to Grinch as he enters the store]
Store Owner: Oh, hello! Happy Holida..
[Grinch holds up his finger to stop him]
[Grinch grabs the jar that a woman was trying to grab from the top shelf]
Grinch: What’s this?
Woman: Hey, excuse me. Are you getting that?
Grinch: Hmm. No.
[he places the jar back, as he walks off, he deliberately hits the shelf knocking the jar, which falls and breaks]
Grinch: This perfectly creates the mating call of the reindeer. Now.
[as he uses his device a little goat appears]
Grinch: Oh. Hey, there. Sorry, little goat. I was calling for a reind…
[the little goat suddenly screams warning all of the reindeer to run off]
[as Grinch and Max are trying to walk quietly across the snow]
Grinch: That is the loudest snow I’ve ever heard in my life.
Grinch: Fred. What are you doing?
[we see a massive reindeer pumping whipped cream into its mouth and coming through its nostrils]
