Drama directed and written by Peter Livolsi in his directorial debut. The story centers on socially-awkward teen, Sebastian Prendergast (Asa Butterfield), who has spent most of his life with his grandmother, Josephine Prendergast (Ellen Burstyn), in their geodesic dome home tourist attraction where she raises him on the futurist teachings of her former mentor Buckminster Fuller in hopes that one day Sebastian will carry Fuller’s torch and make the world a better place.
When a stroke sidelines Josephine, Sebastian begins forming a friendship with Jared (Alex Wolff), a chain-smoking, punk-obsessed teen with a heart transplant who lives in the suburbs with his bible-thumping single father, Alan (Nick Offerman), and teenage sister, Meredith (Maude Apatow).
Alan Whitcomb: This is the St. Peter’s Lutheran Youth Group.
Sebastian Prendergast: I’m Sebastian.
[as they enter the dome]
Josephine Prendergast: Welcome to the future.
Sebastian Prendergast: That’s my nana. She says there’s the traditional way to live, and then there’s the dynamic independently, the way Buckminster Fuller did.
Buckminster Fuller: Every time man makes a new experiment, he always learns more.
Jared Whitcomb: That old lay is like your overlord?
Sebastian Prendergast: She’s my guardian. She made sure I stayed on the right path.
Jared Whitcomb: Wow.
Sebastian Prendergast: What is it that you listen to on…
[he points to Jared’s headphone]
Jared Whitcomb: You better prepare yourself, dude.
[Sebastian listens to Jared’s punk rock music]
[as Sebastian is singing to himself]
Josephine Prendergast: Sebastian, what are you mumbling?
Sebastian Prendergast: Uh, it’s nothing. Sorry, Nana.
Jared Whitcomb: Hey. This is my sister Meredith. You can probably guess she totally sucks.
Sebastian Prendergast: [to Jared] I want to know more about punk.
Josephine Prendergast: Where did you run off to?
Sebastian Prendergast: I was with my friends.
Sebastian Prendergast: Why do you take so much medicine?
Jared Whitcomb: I have someone else’s heart.
Alan Whitcomb: You could get overworked.
Jared Whitcomb: Why don’t you let me decide what my heart can handle?
Sebastian Prendergast: Are you worried about dying?
Jared Whitcomb: Hell, no. we got to start a band.
Meredith Whitcomb: What are you guys doing?
Jared Whitcomb: Please don’t tell dad.
Sebastian Prendergast: We’re playing a gag.
Jared Whitcomb: Gig.
Sebastian Prendergast: Right, a gig.
[after Jared has shaved some of Sebastian’s hair off to make him look punk]
Meredith Whitcomb: Woh! Nice hair.
Josephine Prendergast: [to Sebastian] What is wrong with you?
[to Josephine; referring to Sebastian]
Alan Whitcomb: You can’t keep him locked up in the world.
[referring to his grandmother’s dome]
Meredith Whitcomb: This place could be sick for an overnight.
Sebastian Prendergast: What is an overnight?
Meredith Whitcomb: Like a party where people sleepover.
Josephine Prendergast: If you stared out into the future, what would the future be?
Sebastian Prendergast: I’m going to change the world.
Meredith Whitcomb: You’re so weird.
