War drama written and directed by Dan Krauss. Based on true events, the story follows Andrew Briggman (Nat Wolff), a young soldier in the US invasion of Afghanistan, who witnesses other recruits killing innocent civilians under the direction of their sadistic leader, Sergeant Deeks (Alexander Skarsgård). He considers reporting them, but the increasingly violent platoon becomes suspicious that someone in their ranks has turned on them, and Andrew begins to fear for his life.
William Briggman: [to Andrew] Being a part of something like this, that’s a tremendous thing. I’m proud of you.
[to his squadron; referring to the detonation device]
Sergeant Deeks: Gentlemen, whoever is making these, has to answer for the deaths of twenty-four American soldiers in the past twelve months. And every day we don’t find them, is another day an American soldier could come home in pieces. Who wants to make a difference?
[all of his squadron put up their hands]
[on the phone]
Andrew Briggman: Hey, dad. Things are really taking off for me.
[referring to the meat he’s barbecuing]
Sergeant Deeks: How do you like it cooked?
Andrew Briggman: Bloody.
Sergeant Deeks: [smiling] Caveman.
[to his squadron]
Sergeant Deeks: You give me your loyalty, and I’ll guarantee that each and every one of you will have a chance to be a warrior, to actually be a part of history.
Sergeant Deeks: So, gentlemen, what’s the play?
Andrew Briggman: Relationship building, Sergeant.
Sergeant Deeks: Is he serious?
Sergeant Deeks: Now, who’s ready to have some fun?
Sergeant Deeks: Ready on three. Three. Two. One.
[throws the grenade in his hand]
Andrew Briggman: I just keep thinking about that kid that we killed today.
Sergeant Deeks: What, you think it was wrong?
Andrew Briggman: Yeah, I do.
Sergeant Deeks: You kill one of theirs, you save ten of ours. And you’re telling me, that’s not right?
Sergeant Deeks: You think that man was innocent?
Andrew Briggman: He didn’t deserve to die.
Sergeant Deeks: They’re cooperators.
[on the phone]
William Briggman: Andrew, tell me what’s going on?
Sergeant Deeks: [to Andrew] You know that anything that happens out here stays in the family.
Rayburn: [to Andrew] Do me a favor, go get the targets.
Coombs: You think we’re going to shoot you or something?
Sergeant Deeks: You’re trying to do what you think is right. The problem is, you don’t even know what right means.
Andrew Briggman: Leave me alone.
Sergeant Deeks: You are alone.
[on the phone]
William Briggman: Andrew?
Andrew Briggman: I don’t know what to do anymore. Do I do the right thing, and put myself in danger? Or do I just shut up and deal with it?
