Drama directed by Ciro Guerra. The story centers on a Magistrate (Mark Rylance) of an isolated frontier settlement on the border of an unnamed empire, who is looking forward to an easy retirement until the arrival of Colonel Joll (Johnny Depp). After Joll conducts a series of ruthless interrogations on the “barbarians”, this leads the Magistrate to question his loyalty to the empire.
