Story:
Psychological thriller directed by Olivia Wilde. Don’t Worry Darling (2022) follows Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles), a husband and wife who are living in a 1950s set utopian experimental community called Victory, espoused by Victory Project CEO, Frank (Chris Pine), who is equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause. But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what’s really going on in this paradise?
We’ll add the best quotes once the movie is released and we’ve had a chance to watch it, but for now, here’s a small selection.
Quotes:
Shelley: Welcome to the Victory Project. We’re all here because we believe in the mission.
Shelley: Security Level, yellow. All residents safe and accounted for.
Shelley: Frank has built something truly special. What he’s created out here, it’s a different way. A better way.
Frank: What are we doing?
All: Changing the world.
Frank: What are we doing?
All: Changing the world.
Frank: That’s right.
Frank: What is the enemy of progress?
Dean: Chaos.
Frank: Yes. A nasty word. Chaos.
Alice: I’m so sorry. I forgot to tell you, but you’re not feeling very well. And the only way to cure it is if we stay home all day, and I tend to you, and kiss you, and cook for…
Jack: [kisses her] Bye.
Alice: You and me.
Jack: Always. You and me.
Frank: All of you wives, we men, we ask a lot. We ask for strength. Food at home, a house cleaned. And discretion, above all else.
Peg: Victory has things money can’t buy.
Peg: I live next door. You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve heard.
Bunny: Jack and Alice only have time for each other.
Bunny: Boys and their toys. At least we know they’re getting work done.
Peg: What do you think they’re really doing out there?
Alice: What do you mean?
Bunny: The one thing they ask of us is to stay here. Where it’s safe.
Alice: I was here when you got here?
Jack: Yeah. Asleep in the bedroom.
Jack: That’s good, just breathe.
Dr. Collins: Most of my patients have had nightmares. I’ve some pills I can prescribe for that. “Keep calm and carry on.”
Alice: Violet, where did you meet Bill?
Violet: We met on a train.
Alice, Violet: To Boston. You dropped your ticket. And he bent down, picked it up, gave it to you, right?
Alice: Do you even know what the Victory Project actually is? Have you ever asked?
Frank: Do you?
Frank: [referring to Alice] No. Jack, it’s okay. I’m curious to hear where she’s going with this.
Frank: I’ve been waiting for someone like you. Someone to challenge me. Like a good girl.
Frank: Thank you for your loyalty.
Frank: Whose world is this?
All: Ours!
Jack: Not everyone gets this opportunity!
Frank: I gave you all of this, Alice!
Alice: Please. What’s actually happening?
Jack: Stop it, Alice.
Alice: What if this place is dangerous? What if…
Jack: Stop it!
Jack: [to Alice] Our life together. We could lose this.
Frank: We are not going backwards. We’re pushing forward!
Alice: I need you to listen to me. They’re lying about everything.
Alice: Everyone is acting like I’m crazy. And I’m not crazy.
Alice: It’s all about control.
Alice: [referring to Frank] I don’t trust him. And I don’t want to be here anymore.
Frank: I know exactly who you are.
Alice: You don’t get to take that from me!
Bunny: Alice, go!
