Sonny Hayes: We need to build our car for combat.
Kate McKenna: How am I supposed to make that safe?
Sonny Hayes: Who said anything about safe?
Kate McKenna: [to Sonny] You know, I bet when you look in the mirror, you see this rough-and-tumble, old school, no bulls**t cowboy. Doesn’t take orders. Goes his own way. Huh? A lone wolf. Well, I have news for you. Formula 1 is a team sport. It always was. And maybe that’s why you failed at it? The only question here is, “Why did Sonny Hayes come back to F1?” Now that question is extremely f***ing urgent. I’ll start listening to you when you finish a race.

Joshua Pearce: Can’t win at lap one, starting at the back, so we just got to hope for some lucky breaks later on. Alright?
Sonny Hayes: Create your own breaks.
Joshua Pearce: Hello, hi? I just said that.
Sonny Hayes: Hope is not a strategy.
Sonny Hayes: Plan A is called Plan A because it’s when everything is going right. You see anything going right?
Ruben Cervantes: Are you insane? We need hard tires. Everybody here is at a one-stop race.
Sonny Hayes: We do what everybody does, we lose.

Sonny Hayes: Okay, here’s another one my dad would say. “Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.”
Sonny Hayes: [to Joshua] Look, man. I don’t give two s**ts about you. You want to sabotage your career, you go right ahead. I’ve seen hundreds of guys with your talent come and go. No one cares! But you sabotage Ruben, who backed you? You sabotage his team? I won’t let you do it.
Kate McKenna: [to Sonny] We all lose our jobs if you can’t pull off a miracle, and that’s starting with staying on the bloody track.
Kate McKenna: What’s the difference between Joshua Pearce and Sonny Hayes?
Joshua Pearce: A lot of decades.
Sonny Hayes: Hard-won experience.
Joshua Pearce: Of living in a van?
Sonny Hayes: Total freedom.
Joshua Pearce: Total failure.
Sonny Hayes: Says the guy who still lives with his mom.
Sonny Hayes: Why do you race?
Joshua Pearce: Money, fame, and free clothes.
Sonny Hayes: What do you care what they say?
Joshua Pearce: Easy for you to say. They all love you.
Sonny Hayes: It’s just noise, man. Drive the car. You’re really good at it. You might be great.
Kate McKenna: I’m here to prove everyone wrong. My ex, my old boss, my first-year uni physics professor. And until we win, I haven’t.
Sonny Hayes: [referring to the time after his crash] So I lost my seat, my money, my sanity, myself, really. Just became this angry, resentful s**thead. Not someone I’m particularly proud of. Till one day, I realized what I had really lost, and it wasn’t the titles, or the trophies, or the records. It was my love for racing. So I started driving. Didn’t matter the car, the circuit, didn’t need anyone to watch. Just as long as I was behind the wheel, I was good.

Sonny Hayes: It’s rare, but sometimes, there’s this moment in the car where everything goes quiet, my heartbeat slows, it’s peaceful, and I can see everything, and no one, no one can touch me. And I am chasing that moment every time I get in the car. I don’t know when I’ll find it again, but, man, I want to. I want to. Because in that moment, I’m flying.
Sonny Hayes: Ruben, we’re drivers.
Ruben Cervantes: We are not drivers, not anymore. I’m sorry. We’re not. We’re losers. We’re a pair of dumb, sentimental, broke losers.
Sonny Hayes: I need this.
Ruben Cervantes: No one drives forever, Sonny. Not even you.
Sonny Hayes: If the last thing I do is drive that car, I will take that life, man. A thousand times.

Ruben Cervantes: We can’t win.
Sonny Hayes: We can’t if we don’t try.
Joshua Pearce: I’m going to win a million races. You should at least have one. We did it.
Sonny Hayes: Yeah, we did.
Sonny Hayes: I wanted to say, “See you down the road,” but in a way that was more poetic. So, can I see you down the road?
Kate McKenna: [as she kisses him] Yes. Hang on to that until then.
Sonny Hayes: Okay.
Kate McKenna: And drive fast.
Sonny Hayes: Don’t worry about me. Go celebrate.
Joshua Pearce: But you’re off to where?
Sonny Hayes: You know, couple more dragons to slay. It’s your team now.
Joshua Pearce: It was always my team.
Sonny Hayes: I’ll be watching. See you around, swan.
Sonny Hayes: I’m told you’re looking for a driver.
Baja Mechanic’s Son: What’s your name?
Sonny Hayes: Sonny Hayes.
Baja Old Timer: Have you ever driven Baja?
Sonny Hayes: Nope.
Baja Mechanic’s Son: We can’t pay much.
Sonny Hayes: Not about the money.
Baja Teenage Grandson: So what is it about?
