Story:
Supernatural horror directed and co-written by Jeff Wadlow. Imaginary (2024) centers on Jessica (DeWanda Wise), who after moving back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. What begins as an innocent game progressively turns into something dark and disturbing with Alice’s behavior becoming more and more concerning. Jessica’s concern grows as she discovers that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.
We’ll add the best quotes once the movie is released and we’ve had a chance to watch it, but for now, here’s a small selection.
Quotes:
Jessica’s Husband: How does it feel being back?
Jessica: Good. I had such good memories here. Maybe my happy place can be our happy place?
Alice: [as she finds Chauncey in the basement] Who left you all alone down here?
Alice: I’m playing a new game with Chauncey.
Jessica: A scavenger hunt list. That’s fun.
Alice: Chauncey says you’re not allowed to play with us.
Jessica: Oh.
Alice: Because you left him.
Alice: I need something happy.
Jessica: [referring to the smiley faced ball] Something happy.
Taylor: [to Alice] Ugh. I thought bugs freaked you out.
Alice: If I can finish my list, Chauncey will take me on a trip to the place he’s from.
Alice: [to Jessica] He says he’s right behind you.
Liam: Can I hang out with your imaginary friend?
Alice: He’s not imaginary. And he’s not your friend.
Jessica: [reading from Alice’s scavenger hunt list] “Something that hurts.”
Dr. Alana Soto: You’ve been spending time with a new friend. He asked you to do something that hurt you.
Alice: That was part of the game.
Dr. Alana Soto: Does that seem like a game a good friend would want to play?
Alice: Maybe we shouldn’t play together anymore, Chauncey. Maybe we shouldn’t be friends!
Jessica: [referring to Alice] She’s lost. But we’re going to find her.
Gloria: Every culture has entities that tether to the young. We call them imaginary friends.
Gloria: [to Jessica] You were always playing with your imaginary friend. When the connection was severed, the entity becomes enraged.
