Spy thriller directed and co-written by Simon Kinberg. Best Quotes

Larry Marks: [as they’re watching Mace practice fighting] No close contact, huh?
Mace: They get close, I get hurt.
Nick Fowler: Yeah, you fight like you date.
Mace: Oh, you want to talk about your dating history, big guy?
Larry Marks: Another time.

Mace: Why don’t we have a team on this?
Nick Fowler: It’s a simple drop, Mace. He could’ve sold that thing on the black market for a lot more, but he just wants three mil for him and his family to disappear.
Mace: What a guy.

Nick Fowler: You ever consider it?
Mace: What? Committing high treason, or starting a family?
Nick Fowler: Take your pick.
Mace: No. I haven’t.
Nick Fowler: Because you love the job.
Mace: One of us has to.

Nick Fowler: [referring to their cover story] You do know what honeymooners do, right? When they’re on their honeymoon, in the most romantic city in the world, Ethel?
Mace: You call me Ethel again, you’re going to wish you got me a smaller ring.

Mace: [as Nick kisses her] You’re my best friend. I don’t have anybody else.
Nick Fowler: I know.
Mace: And I don’t want to mess this up.
Nick Fowler: Tell me you never thought about it.
[we then see them sleep together]

Mace: It’s a little cliché, no?
Nick Fowler: What?
Mace: Honeymoon in Paris.
Nick Fowler: Just because it’s cliché it doesn’t mean it’s not romantic.
Mace: Well, that depends on your definition of romance.

Luis Rojas: I never knew you worked in the field.
Graciela Rivera: No, I never did. Till now.
Luis Rojas: They sent you here because they thought I would trust you. Right? That I would give you my secrets.
Graciela Rivera: Do you have secrets?

Larry Marks: [referring to Nick’s death] Officially, I can’t put you on this. I said it’s not an inquisition, but there is an investigation. But if you were to go out on your own, decided you needed to avenge the death of your teammate, I could understand how that might happen.
Mace: I would need some help.

Khadijah Adiyeme: I’m guessing this isn’t a social call.
Mace: And straight to the point.
Khadijah Adiyeme: So get to it.
Mace: There’s a package, odds are it’s still in Paris, but I don’t know for sure. We need to retrieve it.
Khadijah Adiyeme: We?

Mace: I’m out on my own now.
Khadijah Adiyeme: Yes, you are. I’m not in the field anymore. I’m done with that life.
Mace: Everyone always says that.
Khadijah Adiyeme: I say it because it’s true.

Mace: Hope you don’t mind. I let myself in.
Khadijah Adiyeme: Getting into the room isn’t the same as getting in.
Mace: You didn’t ask the question. And you didn’t ask the question because you don’t want to know the answer.
Khadijah Adiyeme: Correct.

Mace: You know those, the old wars? Cold War. War on Terror. We knew who we were fighting. But now the enemy’s invisible. Like ghosts in a machine.

Mace: [referring to the drive] You know the kind of people who’ll be gunning to get a hold of this. And you know what they’ll do with it. They can control any part of the world from the simple reach of their keyboard. Everything you said on that stage was right. Everything except one thing. The threat isn’t on the horizon. It’s here. Right now. They get this, they start World War III.
Khadijah Adiyeme: The war would be over before we could even fight back.
Mace: I cannot do this without you, Dij. You’re the best in the world at what you do.

Khadijah Adiyeme: [referring to Luis] How did he get the drive in the first place?
Mace: Grabbed it in a cartel raid. The idiot didn’t even know what he had. He tried to sell it for a lousy three mil.

Khadijah Adiyeme: It’s a blind spot.
Mace: Can you get a satellite or something so we can see in there?
Khadijah Adiyeme: The definition of “blind” is “can’t see”.

Abdul: You’re going to need these if you’re going back into the field. I thought this was done.
Khadijah Adiyeme: So did I.

Graciela Rivera: This is not DGSE headquarters.
Marie Schmidt: It’s a safe house.
Graciela Rivera: No, I do not feel safe.

Graciela Rivera: I need to call home.
Marie Schmidt: No, wait. We don’t know how deep this goes. How deep your agency has been infiltrated.
Graciela Rivera: No, I’m not talking about my agency. I’m talking about my family.

'We put ourselves in danger so that others are not. We all look different, speak different, but we're the same.' - Lin Mi Sheng (The 355) Click To Tweet

Marie Schmidt: What do you know about the drive?
Graciela Rivera: Nothing.
Marie Schmidt: Don’t talk to me like I’m one of your children. I’m an agent just like you.
Graciela Rivera: I’m not an agent. I’m a psychologist. I was sent here to analyze one of our agents.

Mace: [pointing their guns at each other] Hands!
Marie Schmidt: You have ten seconds to put your gun down!
Khadijah Adiyeme: Mace.
Marie Schmidt: You have a new partner.
Mace: You got the last one killed.
Marie Schmidt: What are you talking about?
Mace: You’re working with the Colombian?
Marie Schmidt: You Americans are so stupid. Nine!
Graciela Rivera: She was not working with him. Please put the guns down.

Khadijah Adiyeme: We all want the same thing here.
Mace: No, we don’t.

Khadijah Adiyeme: Go on. Go ahead. Pull the trigger. Kill each other. Listen, I get it. You keep botching each other’s ops. I’d be pi**ed off too. But the only way we are going to accomplish anything is if we join forces.
Mace: Are you crazy?
Khadijah Adiyeme: The enemy of my enemy is my friend! We have a common enemy. I’m just suggesting you lower the guns long enough for us to sort this out and get on with it.

Marie Schmidt: Who are you?
Khadijah Adiyeme: Khadijah. MI6. Marie, you’ve met Mace.
Marie Schmidt: How do you know my name?
Mace: We’re spies, a**hole.

Graciela Rivera: I’m not going with you. I’m going home.
Mace: But we can’t do this without your fingerprints.
Graciela Rivera: That is not my problem.
Marie Schmidt: Oh, it is if you want to keep them attached to your body.
Graciela Rivera: I’m sorry. I have a family. I’m not an agent. I’m a therapist. And this is really not for me.

Mace: You know what else may not be for you? Is explaining to your kids why the whole world is on fire, because the bad guys got a hold of the device before we did. We’re the only ones who can prevent that from happening.
Graciela Rivera: Sorry.
Mace: Okay, how about this? Those same guys are out there right now looking for you. You go home, you bring them with you. Graciela, we really need your help. But more importantly, you need ours.

Marie Schmidt: No one to call?
Mace: You got him killed when you blew the op at the café.
Marie Schmidt: Yeah. That’s the thing with partners. They get killed. Or they kill you.
Mace: Is that some kind of threat?
Marie Schmidt: Yes. Yes, it is.

Graciela Rivera: [referring to Khadijah’s partner, Abdul] You lie to protect him? You have children?
Khadijah Adiyeme: No.
Graciela Rivera: It gets harder to lie.

Marie Schmidt: [to Graciela] You just handle the phone. I’ll handle the guns.

Graciela Rivera: I’m scared.
Marie Schmidt: Good. Only an idiot isn’t scared.

Marie Schmidt: [referring to the gun] Take this. Take it.
Graciela Rivera: You said I didn’t have to do the gun stuff.
Marie Schmidt: It changed. The plan changed. Take it!

Mace: You’re not going in there alone.
Khadijah Adiyeme: And you’re not going there at all.
Mace: The last time you went into an op alone…
Khadijah Adiyeme: Was the last time I was in the field. Yes, I know. There’s no other play here, Mace.

Mace: God, I was so nervous. You know how those roads are, total darkness, stuff coming out of nowhere. All of a sudden, I run thirty-five miles an hour straight into a cow. Nearly killed me.
Marie Schmidt: What about the cow?
Mace: My first official agency kill.

Graciela Rivera: What was your first time?
Khadijah Adiyeme: You don’t want to hear about it.
Mace: You definitely want to hear about it.

Khadijah Adiyeme: I was tracing intel on a phone, and I geolocated it to a detention site in Afghanistan, which didn’t make any sense, because they don’t exactly allow phones in there, so. But there was this one gentleman who had hidden it in a secure location.
Graciela Rivera: In his…?
Khadijah Adiyeme: Up him bum.
Marie Schmidt: No way!
Khadijah Adiyeme: All the way up there. I’ll never forget it. Nokia 8850. Long and slim. You cannot imagine the stench that emanated from that chipset. I’ve been attached to my hand sanitizer ever since.

Graciela Rivera: So you turned in your own father?
Marie Schmidt: Yep.
Graciela Rivera: Are you in therapy?
Marie Schmidt: I should be.
Graciela Rivera: Yeah. I think you should.
Khadijah Adiyeme: I know this is no consolation, but I just have to say that you are, without a doubt, the most, screwed-up of us all.

Grady: I’ve got four more agents out on the street.
Khadijah Adiyeme: I counted six. But thanks for the tip.

Graciela Rivera: I’m sorry. I cannot do this anymore. I have two children, and I’m going home.
Khadijah Adiyeme: You’re never going to see your family again if you don’t move!
Graciela Rivera: I am a normal person. I can’t do this. I’m not made for this. I told you!

Mace: Are you under control?
Marie Schmidt: Are you?
Mace: No.

Graciela Rivera: So now what? We have no information. How do we go forward?
Khadijah Adiyeme: We don’t go forward. We go back.

Yassine: If you kill me, you have nothing.
Marie Schmidt: That’s true. But if you live, we also have nothing. So, based on those two options…

Marie Schmidt: Can’t sleep?
Mace: Occupational hazard.
Marie Schmidt: Like a family vacation.
Mace: I wouldn’t know.
Marie Schmidt: Me neither.

Mace: [referring to Abdul] What did you tell him?
Khadijah Adiyeme: That I’d be a bit longer.
Mace: And what did he say?
Khadijah Adiyeme: He hasn’t been sleeping well, without me.
Mace: That’s real love, huh?
Khadijah Adiyeme: That’s real life, Mace.
Mace: James Bond never has to deal with real life.
Khadijah Adiyeme: James Bond always ends up alone.

Mace: [over earpiece] I’ll spill my drink on him.
Marie Schmidt: Where did you learn that move?
Mace: Paris. Enemy agent. Ruined my favorite dress.
Marie Schmidt: If that was your favorite dress, she really did you a favor.

Pyotr Khasanov: A woman such as yourself should never be alone.
Khadijah Adiyeme: [over earpiece] Gracie, say “thank you”. Flirt.
Graciela Rivera: Thank you. I’m no good at flirting.
Pyotr Khasanov: Luckily, I am.

Khadijah Adiyeme: [over earpiece, to Graciela] Just act interested. Don’t think of it as seduction. Think of it as deduction. He’s just a patient with a problem. Find it.

Mace: [after finding out Nick is alive] You’re working with murderers?
Nick Fowler: And you’re not? How many people have the CIA assassinated? How many states have they toppled? How many wars have they started?

Nick Fowler: The hardest thing about all this, Mace, was thinking I’d never see you again.
Mace: Wow. This is an angle. I can’t believe you’re trying to work me.
Nick Fowler: If I didn’t want you to see me, you wouldn’t have seen me.
Mace: Oh, you didn’t want me to see you in Paris, did you? You wanted me to think that you were dead.
Nick Fowler: Yeah, so you were clean. I did that for you.
Mace: For me? Uh-huh. Without any regard to how it would make me feel.
Nick Fowler: How did it make you feel?
Mace: Bitter.

Nick Fowler: [to Mace] Always such a tough guy.

Marie Schmidt: [to Khadijah] What do we have? Please don’t say “each other”.

Mace: [to Nick] The only place I’ll join you is hell.

Khadijah Adiyeme: So this was all some kind of fishing expedition?
Marie Schmidt: Selling deadly intel to the highest bidder just to see who’s out there bidding?
Lin Mi Sheng: We sold them nothing.
Marie Schmidt: What?
Lin Mi Sheng: The drive is right here.

Marie Schmidt: You were dreaming. You were having a bad dream. Your dream was about how you didn’t see the signs, right? When you live a life of lies, it’s hard to know what’s true and what isn’t.
Mace: I thought I knew. I was in control my whole life. I took care of myself because I didn’t have anybody. I got used to that life. It made me really, really good at this life.
Marie Schmidt: I’m sorry you were betrayed. I know what that feels like.

Mace: So what did you give them? You have the drive. You gave them something else.
Lin Mi Sheng: We gave them something close.
Mace: That was a dangerous thing to do.
Lin Mi Sheng: That’s what we do. Right? We put ourselves in danger so that others are not. We all look different, speak different, but we’re the same.

Mace: [after Nick has his men capture the people closest to them as hostages] I’m sorry that you’re here. This is my fault. I brought all of this into your life.
Graciela Rivera: No, you didn’t. He did. You don’t have to apologize for him, Mace. We always do that, right? We think everything is our fault. You didn’t bring this into my life. All you did was trust the wrong guy. It’s not your fault.
Mace: That’s what therapists always say.
Graciela Rivera: I’m not a therapist right now.

Elijah Clarke: I have ten men outside.
Nick Fowler: You had ten men. Just you and me now.

Elijah Clarke: You were beaten by a bunch of girls. Should have killed them when you had the chance.
Nick Fowler: They’re next. You’re now. One reason, give me one reason you keep breathing.
Elijah Clarke: I’ll give you a hundred million reasons if you carry on working for me.
Nick Fowler: I’m good.

Grady: They can’t run forever, right? I mean, sooner or later, they got to give up.
Nick Fowler: You don’t know Mace.

Nick Fowler: I knew you’d show up eventually.
Mace: If you knew I was going to show up, one wonders why you didn’t spend a little bit more on a better security system.
Nick Fowler: You presume I didn’t want you to get in.

Mace: Hey, Nick, remember that story that they told us about in training? Washington’s female spy. During the Revolution. Agent 355 is what they called her.
Nick Fowler: Because they didn’t know her name.
Mace: Someone knew her name. They just didn’t want the world to know it.

Mace: [as Nick is feeling unwell from the poison put in his drink] A full day betraying all that’s best in humanity really does take it out of you, doesn’t it?
Nick Fowler: [as the others show up] Wow. It’s a reunion. Sorry about shooting you. It’s okay. I survived.
Marie Schmidt: Not sure you will.

Mace: Heard you were looking for us, so here we are. Figured, just like old times, I’d do the work for you. Thanks for everything you taught me, Nick. A girl really does need a guy to explain it all to her. But I’ll take it from here.
Nick Fowler: Killing me is not going to change anything.
Mace: I know. I’m not going to kill you, Nick. But you’re going to wish that I had. I have a team coming to lock you in a cell on the other side of the world, where you’ll spend the rest of your life. You’re not the only one with contacts. And I’m not alone anymore.

Graciela Rivera: [referring to Nick] He was right. Our agencies are corrupt.
Marie Schmidt: Everything is corrupt. Look at them. Taking a walk. Living their lives feeling safe. They’ll never know how close they came to losing it all.
Khadijah Adiyeme: And they’ll never know who saved them. We’ve been erased. Made invisible.

Mace: I’ll miss you, Dij.
Khadijah Adiyeme: Yes, you will.
Mace: Until the next social call.
Khadijah Adiyeme: Until the next.

Mace: [after the others have left] Want to grab a drink?
Marie Schmidt: Not really.
Mace: Me neither.

Mace: Hey, Marie. Bye.
Marie Schmidt: I doubt it.
