Dystopian action adventure prequel directed by Francis Lawrence. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.
We’ll add the best quotes once the movie is released and we’ve had a chance to watch it, but for now, here’s a small selection.
Dr. Volumnia Gaul: I am honored to introduce to you, the creator of the Hunger Games themselves, Dean Casca Highbottom.
Casca Highbottom: I have summoned you all here for the Tenth Annual Reaping Ceremony, in which we choose two children from each District to fight to the death in the Hunger Games.
District 12 Announcer: From District 12, Lucy Gray Baird.
Casca Highbottom: There has been a change this year. As a Mentor, Mr. Snow, your role is to turn these children into spectacles, not survivors.
Dr. Volumnia Gaul: Mr. Snow. After everything you’ve seen out there in the world, what are the Hunger Games for?
Coriolanus Snow: The Hunger Games, they’re to punish the Districts. Those tributes don’t have a choice.
Casca Highbottom: You hear that, boy? It’s the sound of snow falling.
Casca Highbottom: Your role is to turn these children into spectacles, not survivors.
Coriolanus Snow: Welcome to the Capitol.
Lucy Gray Baird: You look like you shouldn’t be here.
Coriolanus Snow: I shouldn’t. But I’m your mentor.
Lucy Gray Baird: A rebel.
Lucy Gray Baird: What does my mentor do besides bring me roses?
Coriolanus Snow: I do my best to take care of you.
Coriolanus Snow: My name is Coriolanus Snow, and welcome to your academy orientation.
Casca Highbottom: You have been chosen for your mental strength, moral rectitude.
Coriolanus Snow: Consistency, dependability, and noble birth.
Sejanus Plinth: From this moment on, everything you do is a reflection on the Capitol.
Coriolanus Snow: The words you speak. The people with whom you associate. And the style with which you present yourself.
Dr. Volumnia Gaul: All of it represents the glory of Panem.
Coriolanus Snow: This is your chance to become part of a grand legacy that spans generations.
Dr. Volumnia Gaul: Today you will become what Panem needs you to be.
Casca Highbottom: Today your journey to greatness begins.
Lucy Gray Baird: You seem like a good man, Coriolanus Snow.
Coriolanus Snow: [to Lucy] I am going to get you out of here.
Lucy Gray Baird: [to Snow] You really want to take care of me in that Arena? Start by thinking I can actually win.
Coriolanus Snow: I’ve seen what war does to people.
Dr. Volumnia Gaul: If you want to protect people, then it’s essential to accept what human beings are. And what it takes to control them. Let’s see you use that famous Snow charm.
Lucretius ‘Lucky’ Flickerman: I’m Lucky Flickerman, first ever host of the Hunger Games.
Lucretius ‘Lucky’ Flickerman: We’re live! Smile. It’s why we have teeth.
Announcer: Enjoy the show.
Lucretius ‘Lucky’ Flickerman: Five. Four. Three. Two.
Coriolanus Snow: Run.
Dr. Volumnia Gaul: What happens in there, fueled with the terror of becoming prey, see how quickly we become predator? See how quickly civilization disappears?
Dr. Volumnia Gaul: I want my enemies to see a rainbow of destruction engulfing the world.
Lucy Gray Baird: There’s a natural goodness built into us all. We can step across that line into evil, or not.
Lucretius ‘Lucky’ Flickerman: How wonderful that we all get to be here, for someone’s final performance.
Tigris Snow: Imagine it was your name that they pulled. I’d just want to know that somebody still cared about me. That I was still of value.
Tigris Snow: It’s not just about winning.
Coriolanus Snow: Everything is about winning.
Sejanus Plinth: You’re monsters! All of you!
Casca Highbottom: Good luck with that poor little songbird.
Coriolanus Snow: Where is she?
Casca Highbottom: It’s a mystery. And mysteries have a way of driving people mad.
Dr. Volumnia Gaul: Mr. Snow, let me ask you one final time. What are the Hunger Games for?
President Snow: It’s the things we love most, that destroy us.
