The Witcher Season 2 Quotes

1. A Grain of Truth
'It's what eats you alive. Loneliness.' - Nivellen (The Witcher Season 2) Share on X
Geralt of Rivia: [referring to Yennefer] Where is she?
Tissaia: And who are you to her, exactly?
Geralt of Rivia: Is she alive?
Tissaia: We won because of her. She bought us time until the armies arrived.
Geralt of Rivia: Was it worth it?
Ciri: Yennefer. Can you please tell me who she is?
Geralt of Rivia: Doesn’t matter. She’s gone now.
Geralt of Rivia: [after Ciri wakes from a nightmare] I sleep like s**t too.
Ciri: You don’t sleep at all.
Geralt of Rivia: Makes for fewer nightmares. Except for the one about the rock troll. Overly friendly. Tough image to shake.

Ciri: I need to understand some things. You claimed the Law of Surprise and got me. Why?
Geralt of Rivia: It was payment for a debt. I saved your father’s life.
Ciri: From what?
Geralt of Rivia: Your grandmother. She didn’t want your mother marrying an outsider. Your father didn’t know what he was giving up.
Ciri: So, I’m your destiny? Whatever that means.
Geralt of Rivia: You’re much more than that, Cirilla.
Ciri: I miss my home.
Geralt of Rivia: Cintra isn’t safe for you any more.
Ciri: Then what about Skellige? I have people there too. I’d be safe there.
Geralt of Rivia: If you want. But you’d be married off to the nearest Lord of Bad Breath. He’d be seeking to claim your throne too. The food is good there though.
Tissaia: [referring to Fringilla] She has abandoned all rules of Chaos.
Artorius: She is lost too then.
Tissaia: [referring to Cahir] He will give us everything we need if I can have time with him.
Artorius: We have rules.
Vilgefortz: She wasn’t asking your permission.
Ciri: So, what exactly is Kaer Morhen?
Geralt of Rivia: It’s where witchers go during the winter. There, we can rest up and heal. Replace armor and elixirs. It’s my home.
Ciri: How come I’ve never heard of it?
Geralt of Rivia: Because we like it that way.
Ciri: Why?
Geralt of Rivia: There was an attack. A long time ago, when I was a boy. Almost wiped us all out. So now, we like to keep a low profile.
Ciri: Were you attacked because you’re different?
Geralt of Rivia: Sure. We can’t see the future like you can. Back on the battlefield, when you saw me and that woman before it happened.
Ciri: Yes, well, it was more like a dream. Hazy. It was weird.
Nivellen: What the f*** are you doing here, you old whoreson?
Ciri: This is your friend?
Geralt of Rivia: Yeah. But he’s changed.
Nivellen: I know. I look a tad different since you saw me last. But I could say the same of you.
Nivellen: You can bathe in the next room.
Geralt of Rivia: I’m fine.
Nivellen: You, my friend, are very far from fine. You reek of old horse.
Geralt of Rivia: Part of my charm.
Nivellen: You always were a horse’s a** anyway.
Geralt of Rivia: [referring to Ciri] Nivellen, I’m not one to slight the rite of hospitality, but I do need to know that she’s safe here.
Nivellen: You see my tusks, and think I would bite the throat? She is. I’m still me.
Geralt of Rivia: You going to tell me what happened to you?
Nivellen: That’s a tale requiring wine. What of you?
Geralt of Rivia: That’s a tale requiring a wine cellar.
Nivellen: Has he told you how we first met?
Ciri: No. He’s not especially chatty.
Nivellen: No.
Ciri: I’d like to hear though.
Nivellen: It’s my favorite tale. You see, this snow-capped sourpuss here was hired by the most horrible monster of all, my father, to clear our woods of a wyvern infestation.
Nivellen: [referring to Geralt] He’s a big softie.
Geralt of Rivia: Since we’re telling no lies, tell us about your curse.
Nivellen: In front of the girl?
Geralt of Rivia: She’s tougher than you think.
Nivellen: [referring to his curse] I was a gormless young twat. That’s how. Fell in with a bad lot. I trashed the Temple of the Lionheaded Spider. High on godflesh mushrooms.
Geralt of Rivia: All the mushrooms in the world wouldn’t make anyone that stupid.
Nivellen: If only it was so. After the damage was done, this priestess cursed me to live like this. Forever. Alone.
Nivellen: I’ll be honest. I’ve tried to end it, Geralt. More than once. But I kept coming back. That priestess won’t let me off so easy.
Ciri: The Wraiths of Mörhogg. My grandfather saw them just before Cintra fell.
Geralt of Rivia: Her grandfather was a drunk. He saw a lot of things.
Nivellen: I’m simply saying, the North and South at war, monsters roaming when they should be hibernating, pestilence sweeping the land. Maybe it’s the end of days.
Geralt of Rivia: I’ve lived through a whole dark age and three supposed end of days. It’s all horses**t.
Nivellen: No, something has changed, Geralt. The world’s acting of its own strange accord these days. Far outside the reach of kings and men.
Geralt of Rivia: [after Nivellen says he had a cat] Didn’t you say you were cursed to live alone?
Ciri: Didn’t you say cats are afraid of witchers?
Cahir: Are you my inquisitor or executioner?
Tissaia: See where the night takes us.
Cahir: Do what you will. Make no difference in the end. The White Flame will cleanse us all.
Tissaia: [as she’s torturing Cahir] Resist or submit. It makes no difference. It is not in my nature, to be cruel. But you have taken someone from me. Someone I care about deeply. So now I will take your knowledge, your memories, your very being, and leave you cold and helpless, trapped in the eternal darkness of your own mind. I know. I know you want to scream. But it’s too soon. It’s too soon, because I haven’t even started yet. If evolution has traced any groove at all in your brain, I will plough it somewhat deeper. And then you will know what a scream can really be!
Yennefer: You’re on the run. We won.
Fringilla: A battle. The war’s just begun.
Yennefer: The refrain of the defeated, how sad.
Fringilla: Sodden was merely a raindrop before the storm.
Yennefer: [to Fringilla] At least conjure me up some decent food before we get to S**tgaard.
Nivellen: The Fall of the Elders. Elven warrior, human mage. Ordained by hate to kill. Instead found love and ran away. Against their people’s will.
Ciri: It’s beautiful.
Nivellen: Into bliss, the two did wed. A baby on the way. A child born to parents dead, that fateful winter’s day.
Geralt of Rivia: [to Roach, referring to Ciri] It’s as if she’s determined to do the opposite of the thing that’ll keep her safe. Verbose when I need her to be quiet. Stubborn and sullen when I need her to talk. Looks like you’re in good company.
Ciri: What’s it like? Being alone because of what you are?
Nivellen: It’s what eats you alive. Loneliness.
Ciri: Have you ever tried to cure yourself?
Nivellen: Oh, I’ve plied many a lass with treasure to kiss me, hoping there was a grain of truth to those fairy tales.
Ciri: Maybe you just haven’t found the right one yet.
Ciri: Mousesack told me of a hedgehog man who was cured by true love.
Nivellen: Lucky chap. He was probably worthy. You saw my statue garden. All my servants are buried there. I killed them the day I turned, not knowing what I was, not knowing my own strength. I deserve my destiny.
Ciri: Those people you killed, you didn’t mean to.
Nivellen: Sometimes, I think I’m still a man. But mostly, I know what I really am.
Ciri: I watched my entire home burn to the ground at the hands of another. My family trapped inside. You don’t seem like a monster to me.
Nivellen: I appreciate that, my dear. Monsters are more than just horrid looks, and claws, and teeth. Monsters are born of deeds done. Unforgivable ones.
Nivellen: [referring to Ciri] What’s your plan?
Geralt of Rivia: Keep her alive.
Nivellen: That’s it?
Geralt of Rivia: I can protect her from any mark of man or monster. And you said so yourself. The world is changing. Perhaps that’s why the Law of Surprise brought us together.
Nivellen: Oh, that devious old chestnut. The plot thickens, huh?
Nivellen: You spend a lifetime alone, then you claim a child of an ancient promise of destiny. What changed you?
Geralt of Rivia: Who. Yennefer of Vengerberg.
Nivellen: Ooh-hoo-hoo. And where is this rarest and fairest of all maidens? The one who could crack an icy witcher’s heart?
Geralt of Rivia: She’s dead.
Nivellen: I’m sorry, my boy. How long ago?
Geralt of Rivia: A few days.
Nivellen: How are you not heartbroken?
Geralt of Rivia: Who says I’m not?
Yennefer: Horses, whores, and mages. All useful till we’re not.
Fringilla: I was placed in a kingdom at the whim of the Brotherhood’s wants. We all were. Just gilded pawns to control kingdoms, nothing more.
We weren’t forced to do anything.
Fringilla: Should I have left my post as you did? Shirked my duties, wasted my talents?
Yennefer: Eager to please. Easy to wound.
Fringilla: You’re blind, Yennefer.
Geralt of Rivia: Anything else? I have nothing to hide.
Nivellen: From me, maybe. But have you told the girl the truth? That witchers obtain children so they can feed them with magic herbs. The few who survive, become witchers themselves. All human feelings and reactions are trained out of them. They are turned into monsters to kill other monsters.
Geralt of Rivia: That’s not going to happen to her.
Nivellen: But it happened to you. For better or worse, she’s with you now. How does she feel about it?
Nivellen: [Giralt doesn’t reply] Oh. The look of a man who’s worried he’s lost his touch.
Geralt of Rivia: The look of a man who’s wondering why his old friend is cheating.
Nivellen: You got me there. Magic knives!
Ciri: Nivellen said you were a cat. What are you?
Vereena: I am different. I am not you. But I am like you.
Vereena: [to Ciri] I’ve never met anyone alone in the heart, like you. Different. Not one of many.
Vereena: Why do you travel with that man? I know what he is. He kills things.
Ciri: Monsters, yes. Kills them. Are you a monster?
Vereena: Are you a monster because you are different?
Ciri: Monsters do bad things to people.
Vereena: Humans do bad things to everybody.
Ciri: Nivellen. He hid you from the witcher. He loves you.
Vereena: This must be our secret. Until you leave.
Geralt of Rivia: Roach is by the gate. If anyone other than me leaves this place, ride for your life.
Ciri: What’s happening?
Geralt of Rivia: There’s a bruxa in the house.
Ciri: A what? What are you doing? What’s going on, Geralt?
Geralt of Rivia: Move! Now.
Vereena: [to Ciri, referring to Geralt] Don’t run. I can’t help myself if you run. He’s wrong. I don’t want to hurt you.
Vereena: [after Nivellen stabs her] Mine, or nobody’s. I love you. Love you.
[as she about to kill him Geralt decapitates her]
Vereena: [to Ciri] He’ll come for you too.
[her decapitated head suddenly bursts into flames and burns]
Nivellen: It’s wrong. It’s wrong. It’s all wrong!
Geralt of Rivia: The curse has lifted. You are free now.
Nivellen: Free? This is what you call free?
Nivellen: [referring to Vereena] I found her in the woods. Injured. Starving. She wasn’t scared of me. And when she healed, she chose to stay. She didn’t care what I looked like. And to ease her cravings, I let her feed on me. But…
Geralt of Rivia: She couldn’t control herself? She was a monster.
Nivellen: No. That’s not true.
Ciri: It doesn’t matter if she was or wasn’t. She loved you.
Geralt of Rivia: Love and blood. They both possess a mighty power. Learned men and mages have wracked their brains over it for years. And they’ve arrived at nothing except…
Nivellen: True love. To lose true love. That’s what it is.
Nivellen: I knowingly turned my eyes away from what she did to the villagers, because she didn’t care that I was cursed all those years ago. Not for destroying the temple. For raping the priestess.
Nivellen: Please stay. Don’t go. I beg you. Use your sword. End this, for me.
Geralt of Rivia: You’re mortal now. Do it yourself.
Geralt of Rivia: When I say run, you run. When I say hide, you hide. And when I say get to Roach…
Ciri: I know.
Ciri: I think there’s something wrong with me. Everywhere I go, people die. Sometimes, I feel like I could burn the whole world. I wouldn’t mean to. It just makes me feel so afraid. All the time.
Geralt of Rivia: Fear is an illness. If you catch it, and you leave it untreated, it can consume you.
Ciri: How do you treat it?
Geralt of Rivia: You face it. Facing your fear is not easy. But I am here for you. I won’t let anything happen to you.
2. Kaer Morhen

Geralt of Rivia: [to Yennefer as she dreams] I can’t wait to grow old together. You, me, and her. The family we always dreamed of.
Fringilla: We’re moving away from Cintra. F***.
Yennefer: Finally, an honest response.
Yennefer: We’re stuck here together. Who knows, maybe we’ll be friends yet again.
Fringilla: We’ll be saved. I have faith.
Yennefer: Forget faith. We’ve got power.

Yennefer: This one was a captive of Nilfgaard. I’m also an elf.
Yennefer: [in Elder] Is this how you treat your own?
Francesca: Do you sing our songs? Do you honor our elders? Have you ever shed a tear over anything elven? You are no elf.
Ciri: This is your home? How many did you say there were?
Geralt of Rivia: I didn’t. Last I checked we were twenty. Now? Maybe less.
Vesemir: [to Geralt] Wolf. You’re home. Finally.
Lambert: So, there I am, freezing my bollocks off in the middle of a grain field for the second straight night, when the farmer’s wife comes sneaking out to tell me that I’m wasting my time. It wasn’t a mora her husband saw leaving that room. No. It was the f***ing field hand! Oh, and now she’s wailing, “Oh, what are we going to do? My husband won’t pay you if you don’t deliver a mora head!” So I pulled out my sword and I said, “Bet he’ll pay double for the field hand’s.”
Geralt of Rivia: Are you alright? You look like day-old s**t.
Eskel: You should see the other guy.
Eskel: Who the hell are you?
Ciri: Princess Cirilla of Cintra. Pleasure to meet you.
Vesemir: When you told me you called the Law of Surprise, I told you, “Big mistake.” You said you promised you wouldn’t claim the child. I said, “Good. Still a big mistake.”
Geralt of Rivia: I had to save her.
Vesemir: I know. And you knew I would call you out on it.
Geralt of Rivia: Yeah.
Vesemir: You brought her here anyway.
Vesemir: So you’re telling me she escaped Nilfgaard. Survived the wholesale laughter
of her kingdom. How?
Geralt of Rivia: I asked. She lied.
Vesemir: It’s not like you to let it go.
Geralt of Rivia: Witchers watch for answers. I think you might’ve said that one.
Vesemir: Oh, what was I thinking?
Geralt of Rivia: I brought her here so she’d be safe. It’s easier for me to protect her within these walls.
Vesemir: Long enough to watch for answers?
Geralt of Rivia: Exactly. Learn who she is. What she is. And how I can help her.
Vesemir: What if your princess is more than you bargained for?
Geralt of Rivia: I know that already.
Fringilla: Tissaia said elven mages were dead.
Yennefer: She was wrong. Or lied. Neither’s a shock.
Yennefer: We need to gain favor first.
Fringilla: Shocking. We have to do it Yen’s way again.
Yennefer: More shocking this time is you finally stand to benefit.
Francesca: What has been need not always be.
Filavandrel: My people turned to Francesca after I failed to beat Calanthe. They needed faith.
Yennefer: Faith’s a simple medicine for desperate souls.
Fringilla: Faith sustains us all in dark times.
Filavandrel: Your seduction, whilst charming, it lacks the cunning of your father’s blood.
Yennefer: Yes, well, he was half elf.
Ciri: So, is that what we’ll be doing here then? Studying monsters.
Geralt of Rivia: Yeah.
Ciri: Collecting supplies for those potions you take?
Geralt of Rivia: Sure.
Ciri: Training?
Geralt of Rivia: Training is dangerous.
Ciri: So is the man with the black-winged helmet.
Geralt of Rivia: And you want to kill him?
Ciri: Yes.
Geralt of Rivia: Why?
Ciri: I hate him.
Geralt of Rivia: [to Ciri] This is important. We don’t kill out of fear. We kill to save lives. Do you understand?
Ciri: Well, how did you spend your days when you first came here?
Geralt of Rivia: I was beaten and starved. How’s your room?
Ciri: It has rats.
Geralt of Rivia: That’s a good sign. Means it’s one of the warm ones.
Eskel: [to Geralt] It’s funny, you know. Me and the boys, we come back here, all banged up. Rock troll bust Lambert’s eye. A werewolf took a chunk out of Coen’s a**. And what do you come back with? All I say is, when I find a princess, the last thing I’m going to do is play knight.
Vesemir: And this one, Deglan, was killed by men, right in these halls. He taught me everything I know. Made me a witcher.
Ciri: He was like a father to you, wasn’t he? As you’re Geralt’s.
Vesemir: Something like that. It is easier when they’re young. Wait for them to finish crying for Ma, and feed them, train them, send them out into the world, and see who comes back alive.
Vesemir: You don’t frighten easily.
Ciri: There’s times to stand still, and there’s times to keep moving.
Vesemir: Did that mantra help you escape Cintra?
Ciri: Geralt said I’d be protected here.
Vesemir: It’s hard to do when I don’t know who I’m protecting. Or what I’m protecting her from.
Geralt of Rivia: Have you seen Cirilla?
Vesemir: Yeah. I saw her pounding White Gull and dancing on the table.
Geralt of Rivia: Funny.
Vesemir: I caught her spying. Geralt, it’s her first night here. What did you expect?
Geralt of Rivia: I was hoping she’d do as I say.
Vesemir: Kids never do what you say.
Vesemir: Are you sure you’re ready for this?
Geralt of Rivia: I was in a cell beneath the city when Cintra was sacked. I heard it all. Fire, screams, and death. The same sounds that I heard here as a boy, hiding in the cellar, waiting for the humans to come for us. You were the last surviving witcher after Kaer Morhen fell. You and a batch of mutated orphans with nowhere else to go. Were you ready?
Vesemir: No.
Geralt of Rivia: But you protected us anyway.
Vesemir: No. I taught you how to fend for yourselves.
Yennefer: I’m not scared. And I don’t do help.
Violet: Yes, you don’t need anyone.
Violet: And yet, you’ve stayed for decades. Why? Is it love? Legacy, you say? Power! That’s what you live for.
Yennefer: That’s your play? It’s rather desperate.
Violet: You’re the desperate one, Yennefer. The most.
White Flame: [to Fringilla] The path to true strength lies not in humble faith, but in believing in oneself, and seizing one’s destiny.
Violet: [to Yennefer] You’re no longer bound. Why haven’t you thought to portal yourself free? You’ve felt it since Sodden, haven’t you? Or rather, haven’t felt it. But you’d rather be blind than see the truth.
Yennefer: You know that evil witch is no god.
Fringilla: I know my faith brought me this far. I’ll see how much further it can take me.
Yennefer: That sounded like ambition. Impossible.
Fringilla: Not as impossible as you finding meaning. What did you ask for?
Yennefer: An end to this nonsense.
Fringilla: Oh, glib as ever.
Yennefer: If she really is that evil, why did she let you go?
Geralt of Rivia: [to Ciri] When I first came to Kaer Morhen, Vesemir said to me that the world outside these walls is a dangerous place. But times are changing, even here. Nowhere’s safe now. You can’t run from the world. You can’t hide from it. But you can find power and purpose. A chance to survive the horror.
Geralt of Rivia: This Continent was meant for no one. All you have to do, Ciri, is keep your sword close and keep moving.

Geralt of Rivia: [as he’s training Ciri] That’s enough. We’ll start fresh tomorrow.
Ciri: I can do it.
Geralt of Rivia: You need rest. Anything else will have diminishing returns.
Ciri: Sir Lazlo, he protected me in Cintra, and he said less than perfect means death.
Geralt of Rivia: Your stomach’s growling loud enough to wake the dead, if that counts.
Ciri: Hunger makes for good sauce.
Geralt of Rivia: Also makes for s**tty lunges.
Lambert: What’s the difference between a witcher and a heap of s**t?
Coen: Well, go on then.
Lambert: Eventually, the s**t will stop smelling.
Coen: That joke’s old as the Conjunction.
'What is lost is lost.' - Tissaia (The Witcher Season 2) Share on X
Coen: What do you call a witcher with no brains?
Ciri: [as she walks by them] Lambert?
Coen: Okay, now she’s funny.
Eskel: [flashback memory] I’m finished, mate.
Geralt of Rivia: We’ll be finished when we’re counting worms in the ground, not after an hour on the combs.
Eskel: Three f***ing hours. You sound just like Vesemir.
Geralt of Rivia: [referring to Vesemir] We’re all just like him. We won’t get any rest. None of us will have any peace, until there are no monsters left in the world. Until our life’s mission is complete.
Eskel: Which will be never. Because what else would we do?
Geralt of Rivia: Exactly.
Artorius: So tell us, Istredd, while at the Nilfgaardian dig site, did you absorb any insight into their followers?
Istredd: I absorbed nothing. Except perhaps some dirt. Archaeological dig sites being what they are.
Artorius: A respected mage, and even he found no indication of their plan to attack. How could any of us have known?
Tissaia: Because we told you.
Yennefer: What was happening in there?
Tissaia: It’s tumultuous. Artorius can feel his grasp on the leadership slipping. And Stregobor is…
Yennefer: A f***head.
Tissaia: Desperate. Which makes him dangerous.
Tissaia: Your actions turned the tide at Sodden Hill. You are a hero to me and many others. But we need to let Vilgefortz carry the mantle of victory for now.
Yennefer: You want me to lay low.
Tissaia: I need you to.
Yennefer: Because you and Vilgefortz are making a play for their seats.
Tissaia: We know it’s dangerous, but this is not the time to be weak. It’s the time to be strong. Just like you were at Sodden. You did what you had to do. And I, for one, will always be grateful for your sacrifice.
Lambert: Some things are far too scary for little girls.
Ciri: I’m not little, and I’m not afraid.
Lambert: That’s easy to say. But our road is a dark one. Full of dangers. Is that what you want?
Ciri: I want to do what a witcher does.
Istredd: Falka was a girl forgotten by her family. She was trying to rightly recover her throne.
Stregobor: You weren’t there, boy.
Istredd: No, I’m a historian.
Stregobor: Falka was quarter elven, just as Yennefer is.
Istredd: So what are you saying? Yennefer’s related to Falka?
Stregobor: Of course not.
Stregobor: But history does have a way of repeating itself, doesn’t it? And I was there. I was there when Falka destroyed Mirthe and all the mages in it. Her violence, etched here, forever.
[reveals his stumps where his hands were burnt off]
Stregobor: [to Istredd] The only certainty on this Continent, my boy, is that no one is ever what they seem.
Triss: We were all there to play a part. We knew we might not survive. I remember thinking, “If only one of us gets to live, I’m so glad it’s Yen.”
Yennefer: We will find a cure for your scars. I’ll talk to Tissaia.
Triss: No. What’s lost is lost. I’m not on Tissaia’s plaque. I’m not dead. I have to find a new way forward.
Lambert: [after Ciri falls off the pendulums] Nice try, Princess. Admit it. You belong in a castle, not our keep.
Vilgefortz: I wish things were different. But politics…
Yennefer: Requires a certain type of person. Calculating. I understand.
Vilgefortz: Yes. Of course you do.
Cahir: Well, Yennefer of Vengerberg, it seems mages are merciful.
Yennefer: No, we’re practical. Death must serve a purpose.
Cahir: And mine serves none?
Yennefer: None whatsoever.
Yennefer: I always pegged you as a pervert.
Stregobor: Oh, I’d never demean myself with the likes of you, quarter blood.
Yennefer: I prefer Hero of Sodden.
Stregobor: Heroes don’t go mysteriously missing for a month after battle.
Yennefer: You know, it’s telling that you don’t understand such complex concepts as prisoners of war!
Vesemir: [referring to Ciri] Training’s going well then.
Geralt of Rivia: She’s a quick study, if impatient.
Vesemir: Sounds familiar.
Tissaia: We have no other choice. To prove your innocence, you have to kill the Nilfgaardian prisoner.
Yennefer: Is this Vilgefortz talking or you?
Tissaia: The hero kills the enemy.
Yennefer: Which will prove what?
Tissaia: That you are not a spy!
Yennefer: Or that I am a killer!
Tissaia: Then tell them the truth.
Yennefer: What?
Tissaia: That you are not a threat because you have lost your magic. I know you to your core. Your pain is my pain.
Yennefer: Triss is scarred. Sabrina’s bruised. We’re all in pain.
Tissaia: Yes. Yes, we are.
Yennefer: For a month, I’ve searched the Continent, trying every herb, every potion, every spell to get back what I had. What I deserve! Tell me how to save myself!
Tissaia: I cannot.
Yennefer: I don’t believe you!
Tissaia: I want to pierce Cahir’s mind. Punish him. Push him towards madness, all to find out what had happened to you. I would have done anything. But what is lost is lost.
Yennefer: Without it, I’m nothing. I’m stumbling through darkness.
Tissaia: From the moment we met, you have been trying to fill a void. Power couldn’t do it, even when you had it at your fingertips. What makes you think it’s the answer now?
Yennefer: Because it’s all I have left!
Geralt of Rivia: [to Ciri] You can do anything. It doesn’t mean you have to.
Ciri: But you said we catch fear. That you have to face it. You mustn’t just give up.
Geralt of Rivia: That’s right. But you have to train first.
Ciri: Well, then let me train.
Geralt of Rivia: I am.
Ciri: No, you’re not. Not enough. I want to be a great fighter. And not just against sacks of straw.
Geralt of Rivia: I have known many who wanted to be great fighters in my time. Do you know where they are now?
Ciri: Where?
Geralt of Rivia: In cemeteries.
Yennefer: I’m not a spy!
Istredd: I’m leaving for Cintra tomorrow, to help the elves who are migrating, to help people like…
Yennefer: Like me? How heroic. If only you were asked to prove your loyalty by beheading a man.
Ciri: What do you think we’ll find here? Why does it want me? Why me?
Geralt of Rivia: I was at your parents wedding feast. I saw your mother exhibit uncontrolled magical power. She destroyed an entire throne room. Given that you’re her blood, I think you’ve inherited that power. Or something like it.
Ciri: Why didn’t you tell me?
Geralt of Rivia: I didn’t want to scare you if I was wrong.
Ciri: You said you’d never let anything happen to me. And I trust you.
Geralt of Rivia: Good. It’s about time.
Cahir: Can you at least tell me what purpose my death serves now?
Yennefer: Absolution.
Cahir: Mine?
Yennefer: Mine.
Cahir: If the White Flame asks for my sacrifice, I am ready for the darkness. It is in blindness that we find our true strength.
Cahir: Why save me?
Yennefer: Don’t flatter yourself. I’m saving me.

Geralt of Rivia: The Trail will test you. Force you to move beyond the pain, the fear, the failure. Until you become one with the killer itself. Remember, hesitation will draw danger to you like fire. But trust the path you choose, and it will protect you. Even in darkness. As long as you listen. Always listen.
Lambert: Oh, hell, haven’t even had me fill of grog yet, and already, the women are doubling. Merigold.
Triss: Lambert. I see your wounds have improved, but your manners have not.
Cahir: The market is too crowded. Soldiers are everywhere. Portal us out of here.
Yennefer: I can’t. Portals can be tracked.
Cahir: Then explain to me how you’re not dead weight.
Yennefer: Have you looked in the mirror lately? Prison didn’t exactly do you any favors.
'It's funny how quickly people forget about you when you're no longer of use to them, isn't it?' - Yennefer (The Witcher Season 2) Share on X
Yennefer: [to Cahir] It’s funny how quickly people forget about you when you’re no longer of use to them, isn’t it?
Cahir: We’re not safe here.
Yennefer: We are not a “we”.
Ciri: So, Geralt said you saved his life.
Triss: He found himself in my kingdom a time ago. Helped me with a princess in trouble.
Geralt of Rivia: Nastier than you, even.
Triss: He’s not joking. She took a big chunk out of him. But he saved her anyway.
Ciri: Well, you healed my cheek. Seems pretty impressive too.
Dermain: [signs, to Yennefer] You’re very pretty.
Cahir: It appears you have some use after all.
Yennefer: Thankfully, men remain simple.
Triss: [referring to Ciri] So your surprise was more surprising than you’d imagined.
Geralt of Rivia: And mysterious.
Triss: Well, if her mother did have powers, as you say, if she was a mage who never properly harnessed, the child could have inherited an evolved version of it. But it’s an untested theory. When did Ciri start exhibiting signs of Chaos?
Geralt of Rivia: That’s the issue. She hasn’t exhibited any typical indicators of Chaos. She can’t even form witcher signs.
Triss: What do you mean by “typical”?
Geralt of Rivia: She might have the power of foresight. She seems to have visions of things that have yet to come to pass.
Geralt of Rivia: Could a mage have made this?
Triss: Theoretically. But generating monsters has been outlawed for centuries.
Geralt of Rivia: Oh, outlawed. So definitely not a mage then.
Triss: You witchers, you pretend not to have emotions, but you do. I know you feel it too. All of it. Normal love. Normal hatred. Normal pain. Fear and regret. Normal joy, and normal sadness. Stay with me tonight.
Geralt of Rivia: Triss.
Triss: Only stay. Let’s not be alone.
Geralt of Rivia: I’m sorry.
Yennefer: What the f*** is the point?
Cahir: Of screaming?
Yennefer: Anything! You’re born helpless so you find strength. And then that’s all they want you for, to use you. And you find love, but it isn’t real. It’s a wish someone made once, before they even knew who you were. And you find power, and it turns to ash in your hands!
Cahir: [to Yennefer] You were incredible that day in Sodden. The fire. Oh, that’s what did you in, isn’t it? It stole your power.
Cahir: We all have our time in the sun. Your magic has served its purpose. Perhaps there’s a bigger plan out there for you now.
Yennefer: Yes, yes, yes. The benevolent White Flame who brings purpose and meaning, and all that f***ery! You can skip the recruitment speech. Fringilla already gave it.
Yennefer: The most important thing they teach you at Aretuza isn’t magic! It’s to make people in power believe anything you want them to. Do anything you want them to! Fringilla’s a political animal. Trained by the best.
Cahir: Yes, I met your best! She tried to puncture my brain and extract every one of my thoughts.
Yennefer: Exactly.
Cahir: Yes, and it didn’t work! But what if it had? What if it had worked? What would she have found? Fringilla and I serve Emhyr because he served us first. Everyone answers to someone eventually. Even you, I suspect.
Sigismund Dijkstra: Holy men are always the most depraved. A prostitute. Emhyr has to like women! Or men. That’s the problem. No one knows his proclivities. No one knows anything about him. Who he is. What he is. Where he is. What he wants. And nothing he does makes any f***ing sense! We need to get as much information as possible. Whoever we use needs to be inside the city walls for a while. But that narrows our options considerably.
Triss: [after Coen and Lambert make fun of Ciri] You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Coen: It’s just a bit of fun.
Triss: For who? You dress her in rags. Keep her bruised as an apple. That is, when she isn’t washing pi**-pots, or your trousers. Does she even have a chemise? Or soap? Or cloth for when she gets her blood? Though, with those mushrooms you’re feeding her, you’ll ruthlessly deprive her of that before too long. You say you’re mutants. That’s why you don’t understand what people feel. But the truth is, you’re choosing to be ignorant a**holes, aren’t you?
Ciri: How long did it take you to learn to control your powers?
Triss: A long time. Just like it will for you.
Ciri: You know, my grandmother fought battles and wore dresses. You can do both.
Geralt of Rivia: I know.
Ciri: Daughter of Chaos belongs to us. Turn your backs. Join the procession. There is only death here.
Ciri: When the Black Knight captured me, I was scared. I screamed. And that’s when the monolith cracked and fell. I toppled it.
Triss: How could that be?
Geralt of Rivia: I don’t know. I need to see it for myself.
Ciri: I really didn’t mean to do it, Geralt. And if these monsters are my fault…
Geralt of Rivia: It’s alright. I’ll fix it.
Jaskier: What are you doing here? And what fresh hell did you just crawl out of?
Yennefer: A sewer. What’s your excuse?
Jaskier: Oh, a sewer? I always knew you were a blood-sucking, joyless… Hugger. Hugging. We are hugging.
Yennefer: Oh, gods, I miss the days when my biggest problem was an ever present, sing-songy twit.
Yennefer: I heard the song. Geralt must have left quite a sour taste in your mouth.
Jaskier: What? No one leaves any tastes in my mouth, thank you very much. I sing of universal matters, my dear, generous lady. Emotions which anybody could experience. That song could be about anyone. Anyone. Anyone. Anyone. Fine. Yes, when I wrote it, it did come from the heart. Perhaps a broken one. We’re better off without him.
Yennefer: Yes.
Yennefer: You’re the Sandpiper.
Jaskier: What? No. Yes. No. How do you know that name?
Yennefer: You pick up a thing or two when you’re in hiding.
Jaskier: You’re in hiding? Because you’re part elf. Yennefer, I completely forgot. I’m so sorry. I would not wish that fate on my worst enemy. And, yes, you are firmly lodged in that category, it has to be said. But what they’ve done to you, and your people is unspeakable. But some people are speaking. There are anonymous benefactors working behind the scenes, helping me, helping us. Helping us make this right.
Jaskier: They come for the elves, Yennefer. They’ll come for the dwarves. And sooner or later, they will come for everyone. Anyone that they deem the “other”. So, eventually, no artist is safe. Besides, at the end of the day, if I have learned one thing, it is that sometimes, legends can be intoxicating.
Yennefer: Well, Sandpiper, the man, the myth, the legend, I need your help.
Yennefer: I need to get to Cintra. The both of us.
Jaskier: Well, I’ll do what I can. But know this. You, you both smell truly awful. I mean, it is like something has crawled up your a**es and died. So, we leave Oxenfurt at nightfall. Plenty of time to take a bath before then. Just saying.
Geralt of Rivia: I can’t be what you want, Triss. What you deserve. If things were different…
Triss: Except they’re not. I’m grown enough to understand. Last night, you were what I was looking for. Your pain, it excited me. Because I finally felt something again.
Triss: Most of us were cured after the battle. You can hardly see the marks, but…
Geralt of Rivia: Some wounds cannot be healed. I understand that more than you know. I hope that in your search to feel again, you feel your value.
Triss: To Ciri?
Geralt of Rivia: To me. You are important to me, Triss. You always will be.
Geralt of Rivia: [after Triss portals Geralt to Istredd] You must be the mage.
Istredd: I know who I am. Who the f*** are you?
Jaskier: Stick close to the wall and stay out of sight until I give you the signal. I’m going to do what I do best.
Cahir: And what’s that?
Jaskier: Oh, I never really know. Yeah, that’s why I’m so good at it.
Dock Guard: You’re him. Jaskier, the bard?
Jaskier: Guilty. Not literally, but, you know.
Dock Guard: If you don’t mind me saying so, that one, it’s not your strongest.
Jaskier: Oh, yeah?
Dock Guard: It’s a bit complicated. I mean, it took me to the fourth verse to understand there were different timelines.
Jaskier: Oh, did it? Well.
Dock Guard: And that magic kiss? That was a bit cheap.
Jaskier: Yeah?
Dock Guard: I spotted the dragon reveal a mile away.
Jaskier: Oh, you’re clever. You’re a clever one.
Dock Guard: I must say, the bit when the lute player ends up with the warrior ladies.
Jaskier: Lovable. Lovable lutanist.
Dock Guard: Yeah! Didn’t really ring true for me, I must say.
Jaskier: [to the dock guard] Am I going to say it? Yeah, I’m going to say it. You know, if you could write yourself a little song, you could sing yourself whatever you please. But you can’t, can you? Because you are a dockside scapegrace. A qualling feculent. A beef-witted, hell-hated, addlepated goon…
Cahir: [to Yennefer] This is taking too long. We need to get him away from the ramps.
Cahir: None of us will get to Cintra if I don’t do something.
Yennefer: If you do, you’ll get us all killed.
Dock Guard: You’re an hero to my niece. Practically worships you.
Jaskier: Naturally.
Dock Guard: She’ll be heartbroken to hear her favorite bard is a steaming pile of s**t for brains.
Vesemir: Destiny has given us a gift. The key to making more witchers. Ciri.
Jaskier: What happened to you?
Yennefer: I’ve lived a long life. You’ll have to be more specific.
Yennefer: Chaos appears to be done with me.
Jaskier: You’ve lost your magic? Is that even possible?
Yennefer: Go on. Get your gloating in. Time’s limited.
Jaskier: You know, once upon a time, I would have used this opportunity to call you an empty, lonely, power hungry she-demon. But I’m an artist, Yennefer. It’s my job to put myself in other people’s shoes. Even if they are, in your case, large, clunky, and, I don’t know, probably full of snakes, or something.
Jaskier: I’m scared too. I’m scared that one day, the muses will stop speaking to me. Because who are we when we can no longer do the one thing we were put on this Continent to do?
Yennefer: We find a new purpose. A better one. Hopefully.
Jaskier: Chaos could never be done with the likes of you, Yennefer of Vengerberg. Of that much, I am certain. So, if it’s all the same to you, goodbye, good luck, good riddance.
Yennefer: Same to you.

Bar Wench: [as Jaskier is singing] When I was a lass, me playmate had a little brother that was born with no ears. Just some little lumps of flesh, like cauliflower. Deaf as a post. I’d give anything to switch places with him now.
Jaskier: [after he’s been captured by Rience] Look, I don’t have any money. I am but a humble bard. Or if this is about your wife, your mistress, niece, then I can promise you that wasn’t me. I’ve never met them. You’ve got the wrong man!
Jaskier: Look, if you’re just a really big fan, then please note that I’m not willing to discuss the subjects of my work, its inspiration, or characters, fictitious, or otherwise. So why don’t you just show yourself, and we can have a nice chat, and you can tell me what you want from me?
'We can't kill our feelings. Our best chance is to kill the hatred that we may hold onto and move on.' - Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher Season 2) Share on X
Geralt of Rivia: [referring to the stellacite tower] I hate to be the bearer of bad news. It fell during the Slaughter of Cintra. And now a new subspecies of monsters are coming out of it. My theory is that they were nesting in the subterranean structure for years, which might explain the unique mutations.
Istredd: Tell Triss, I don’t understand the prank, but points for imagination. And they say witchers are humorless b****rds. All respect, Mr. Rivia. I’m trying to help elves find refuge here. You have any idea how completely f***ing insane you sound?
Peach: Never look a gift whore in the mouth.
Istredd: [to Geralt] Are you always this talkative, or should I take it personally?
Geralt of Rivia: You only came here to study monoliths?
Istredd: No, I came here to help the elves.
Geralt of Rivia: You want to help the elves by joining a kingdom that regularly massacres whole villages? On the surface of it, there seems to be a bit of a conflict there.
Istredd: I suppose you only believe in helping the vulnerable if there’s coin in it?
Geralt of Rivia: Everyone has an agenda. Even the helpful few, like yourself.
Istredd: Charming.
Triss: Given up on magic lessons already?
Ciri: Geralt said that when you know how to fight something, it becomes less threatening.
Triss: Do you even know what you’re fighting?
Vesemir: I watch my men die, waiting for the final blow to destroy us. But now, Ciri is here. And you arrive too. It can’t be a coincidence.
Triss: She is a living, breathing girl. Not some tool for you to use when you’re desperate.
Vesemir: I’m not desperate. I’m hopeful. For the first time in a long time. You, me, and Ciri, we have a chance to do something extraordinary.
Peach: [as Yennefers is looking for Jaskier] Frequent any taverns?
Yennefer: Huh?
Peach: Just saying. From experience. When I lose a man, he’s usually back at the first place I found him. Bottom of a bottle.
Rience: You’re so tight-lipped about your old friend the witcher.
Jaskier: My lips are loose. You can ask anybody.
Jaskier: [as Rience is torturing him] I’ve not seen Geralt in months. Not since he abandoned me in Cairngorn, much like he abandoned his Child Surprise, who I met only the once, when she was still in the womb. I don’t know where they are. I don’t know where they’re going. And I don’t know why you’re doing this to me!
Rience: See, people think Chaos comes from nothing, but that’s wrong. No, to draw it, you need a source. See, fire is a forbidden source because it usually consumes those that draw from it. Unless you’re very talented. Then the body can withstand it. But it consumes the soul.
Jaskier: [to Rience, referring to Geralt] Please listen to me. I am a bard. I am brilliant. This is what I do. He grunts, and I tell stories. He mentions a witcher keep, and I turn it into a magical, mystical hideaway in the mountains. So please listen to me when I tell you this. He doesn’t share details. He does not have friends. And he does not have weaknesses!
Vesemir: I thought you were going to be a spoiled, high-bred, drip-nosed royal from the West. And you are. But you’re impressing all of us out there.
Ciri: Not enough to join Geralt in Cintra.
Vesemir: You think you should have been invited?
Ciri: Well, it’s my home. My fight. My life.
Ciri: [after finding out she has Elder blood] But my grandmother, she hated the elves.
Vesemir: Sometimes our deepest hate is for the things we cannot change about ourselves.
Vesemir: Something bad is brewing out there. With a vial of your blood, we could protect generations to come.
Ciri: How are you so sure it will work?
Vesemir: I’m not.
Ciri: I’ll do it. On one condition. You have to test it on me first.
Vesemir: My men are warriors now. But they were boys in pain once, if they even survived. And not many did. I’ll not take that chance with you.
Ciri: Because I’m a girl?
Vesemir: Because you’re Geralt’s child.
Ciri: I’m not a child.
Vesemir: Because we care about you.
Ciri: And I care about all of you!
Ciri: [to Vesemir] You said it yourself! Witchers are dying. One by one. You’ll fight. You’ll die. And all of those boys suffering will have been for nothing. I’ve destroyed so many things. Please, just let me help heal something for once. I’m meant for this.
Istredd: Now, what if the monoliths aren’t points of impact? What if they’re the conduits?
Geralt of Rivia: I worry about you mages more and more. Perhaps humans just shouldn’t live for so long.
Jaskier: [after Yennefer rescues him from Rience] Who the f*** was that?
Yennefer: How should I know? You’re the one he kidnapped.
Jaskier: Oh, what, you mages don’t all share an alma mater? You didn’t catch him at the last alumni event?
Yennefer: You know, I was looking forward to at least a few more thank yous, and perhaps some genuflection.
Jaskier: He’s after Geralt.
Yennefer: What? Why? What does he want with him?
Jaskier: You know, I assumed it was to drink tea, and eat crumpets, and wax nostalgic over old times. I don’t know, Yennefer!
Jaskier: [referring to Geralt] So why don’t you conjure up a portal, or do your mind talking, and warn him? You owe him that.
Yennefer: I owe him as much as he owes me. Nothing more, nothing less. Anyway, I can’t. No magic, remember? F***!
Jaskier: You don’t get to play damsel in distress. That’s my job.
Jaskier: Gentlemen, gentlemen, many men have wanted to punch me in the face. Now is your chance! Come on!
Triss: Why do you want this so badly, Ciri?
Ciri: Because I’m sick of feeling lost. Everything I was told my whole life was a lie. And the people I loved most in this world were taken from me before I could find the truth.
Triss: What you’re doing won’t change any of that.
Ciri: But it might help me find a new truth.
Duny: [as Triss is going through Ciri’s memories] They’d kill her if they knew.
Pavetta: It’s a prophecy. Maybe it’s not true.
Duny: It doesn’t matter if it’s true. It only matters if the people believe it. And they will.
Istredd: Tell me how you knew that monsters and monoliths were linked.
Geralt of Rivia: What is it you’re hoping to hear?
Istredd: Your agenda. Look, if you have information that could advance our civilization, I have a right to know.
Geralt of Rivia: Why? So you can help the elves?
Istredd: I came to Cintra because I thought someone might be here. A woman. Yennefer.
Geralt of Rivia: Yennefer? Of Vengerberg?
Istredd: You know Yenna?
Geralt of Rivia: Yen. I did. Yes.
Istredd: Me too.
Geralt of Rivia: You loved her.
Istredd: Love. I never stopped.
Istredd: I thought after Sodden, after everything they did to her at Aretuza, she would make her way here for refuge.
Geralt of Rivia: After Sodden?
Istredd: After she burned through Nilfgaard’s army and saved the Continent. We should all be praising her name.
Geralt of Rivia: Yen’s alive?
Lara Dorren: Child of Elder blood, child of wrath. The time of contempt is nigh. The world will die amidst frost and be reborn of the new sun. Reborn of Elder blood, of the seed that has been sown. A seed that will not sprout, but will burst into flame.
Triss: [to Ciri] Something is ending. It’s because of you. A seed that bursts into flame. It’s you. You will destroy us all. I saw it. No one can stop it. Not even him.
Geralt of Rivia: [as Vesemir is about to start the witcher conversion] What are you doing?
Vesemir: Geralt. She’s meant to be. To rebuild us.
Geralt of Rivia: She is not. She’s a girl. All you’ll do is poison her.
Vesemir: She can do this.
Ciri: I made him do it, Geralt. Stop. I wanted him to try. Geralt, stop!
Geralt of Rivia: Did you not think of the consequences? What if you were killed?
Ciri: All I ever think about are consequences. No matter how hard I train, no matter what I do, it’ll never be enough.
Geralt of Rivia: You are already enough, Cirilla. You are extraordinary.
Ciri: I want to be like you, Geralt. I want to be indifferent to the past. To the lies. To the things I’ve done. Please. Let me have that.
Geralt of Rivia: That is not how it works. Neither you nor I can just forget who we are. We can’t kill our feelings. Our best chance is to kill the hatred that we may hold onto and move on.
Fringilla: I didn’t mean to alarm you, I just, I want you to have all the information I do. So that we can be in step with each other. What?
Francesca: Nothing. It’s just I’ve had leaders, followers, but I’ve never had a partner before.
Fringilla: Neither have I. It’s not terrible.
Voleth Meir: So good to see you again. All alone in a world that hates you, with no way to protect yourself. How delicious.
Yennefer: I managed.
Voleth Meir: And yet you’re here.
Yennefer: I’m not stupid. I meant what I said before. I’m done dealing in debts. I want to make a trade.
Voleth Meir: I know what you want. All that wrath and righteous anger raging inside you. I can smell your desires like rotting meat. But I’m not here to grant wishes. I’m simply a guide to get you exactly what you deserve. Just ask your friends.
Yennefer: I deserve to survive. I’ve earned it. I deserve access to Chaos.
Voleth Meir: I know how you can get it. How you can steal it.
Yennefer: Steal what?
Ciri (Voleth Meir): Me.
Yennefer: And who are you?
Ciri (Voleth Meir): I’m the key to you getting your power back. And a great deal more than that. All you have to do is deliver me to the right lock. A shattered black door just outside Cintra.

Geralt of Rivia: You want to kill yourself trying to become a mutant so if you survive, you can kill yourself trying to get revenge. Which part did I miss?
Ciri: You don’t really give a s**t about what I want. All you care about is your damn duty. So long as I’m breathing, you’ve done your part. I need more than that.
Geralt of Rivia: Ciri, I do understand.
Triss: [to Vesemir] We’ve both been fools. Whatever’s running through that girl’s veins, whatever we made from, it’s more dangerous than we know.
Ciri: I’m sorry. About Roach. About all of this.
Geralt of Rivia: Don’t be. I’m proud of you, Ciri. What you did back there was courageous.
Ciri: I had that feeling again when the chernobog came for me. The pull. But I don’t think it wanted to hurt me.
Geralt of Rivia: It didn’t want to hurt you?

Ciri: If the monsters are coming through the monoliths, it’s my fault.
Geralt of Rivia: It’s not that simple.
Ciri: Geralt? When the Knight caught me, all I could feel was fear. I was so scared. But I also felt anger. Later, there were also some men from Cintra who found me. They were going to take me to the Knight to collect a reward. But I wasn’t scared that time. I just, I knew what could happen.
Geralt of Rivia: You screamed.
Ciri: I killed them, Geralt.
Geralt of Rivia: How many were there?
Ciri: Four.
Geralt of Rivia: Only four? You’ve got some catching up to do.
Ciri: Melitele. Goddess of fertility and harvest.
Geralt of Rivia: I’m impressed.
Ciri: I do, in fact, read. The graduates of the temple school are known to become midwives, historians, healers…
Geralt of Rivia: And witchers. Vesemir sent me here when I was about your age. It’s where witchers learn to do signs. Yes. I too was once a child.
Geralt of Rivia: [to Ciri] Don’t worry. We’re safe. There’s no fighting here. No politics. The temple is known for its neutrality.
Nenneke: The temple is what you make of it. But, yes, some find it more giving than others. I have missed you.
Geralt of Rivia: I have missed you too, Nenneke.
Nenneke: I think we can, at the very least, start to guide you in the art of controlling your Chaos.
Ciri: What’s that?
Nenneke: It’s the feeling inside. The feeling you can’t control.
Ciri: Like The Daughter of Chaos?
Nenneke: Where did you hear that?
Nenneke: Ciri, the questions you are asking require knowledge that’s been lost to time. And knowledge like that is usually lost for a reason. Are you sure you’re ready?
Ciri: Whatever gave me this Chaos, hiding from it won’t fix it. I’m ready for the truth, whatever it takes.
Nenneke: That spirit. You’re just like him.
Ciri: Geralt?
Geralt of Rivia: [referring to Ciri] Now that you’ve had a chance to speak with her, what do you think?
Nenneke: I don’t see any side upon which you are not entirely f***ed.
Nenneke: She’s a princess. Kingdoms will want her for her status. Nilfgaard already does. You know how many have been killed in pursuit of her?
Geralt of Rivia: Thousands, yes, I know.
Nenneke: And if she has Elder blood, she’s a f***ing tinderbox.
Geralt of Rivia: By all means, go on.
Nenneke: You said she recited Ithlinne’s Prophecy during one of her episodes.
Geralt of Rivia: Yes, but I won’t let what may or may not be folklore dictate my path.
Nenneke: She’s a Child of Destiny. There are forces at play larger than we know. You are a part of her, she a part of you. But it’s not enough.
Geralt of Rivia: I know.
Geralt of Rivia: What can I do?
Nenneke: I taught you, in all things, balance. Find what is missing in the girl. Then, maybe, you stand a chance of helping her.
Lydia: My lord is a private man. Why should you give two s**ts about meeting him?
Rience: He seemed like a man with vision. I’d like to help him see it through. What’s that old saying? Better to be at the right hand of the devil than in his path.
Istredd: I need information.
Codringher: Oh, right. Oh. Information. Information is power. And in the wrong hands, it can be a weapon.
Istredd: Well, I’ve heard a great many things about you both, namely, you’re who to ask sensitive questions.
Fenn: Sensitive questions are our favorite.
Codringher: They come very expensive.
Fenn: Very expensive!
Istredd: Well, I need to know what a witcher, a monolith, and a mysterious girl have to do with Nilfgaard.
Jarre: I’m a historian in training. You’ll need this to begin your studies.
Ciri: Is this the orbuculum? What does it do, exactly?
Jarre: I’m not sure.
Ciri: Not much of a historian.
Jarre: Well, that’s a tool for mages. I don’t want to brag, but my tool is bigger. And much more powerful. Knowledge. Like this book.
Ciri: [as Jarre drops his book on her foot] Your big old tool almost broke my toe.
Geralt of Rivia: How is this possible?
Yennefer: I don’t care.
[they hold onto each other and kiss]
Geralt of Rivia: This is my, dear friend.
Yennefer: Dear friend?
Geralt of Rivia: This is Yennefer.
Ciri: You’re Yennefer?
Yennefer: And you must be his Child Surprise.
Ciri: You really expect me to believe that unicorns exist?
Yennefer: Of course they do. I used to own a stuffed one, until it broke, under mysterious circumstances.
Ciri: Well, I’d love to see one some day.
Geralt of Rivia: You’d be in rare company. They only approach those who are pure of heart. Which reminds me, how did you get your hands on one?
Yennefer: Good sir! I’m a beacon of purity.
Ciri: How did you survive in Sodden?
Yennefer: I almost didn’t. I’m one of the lucky ones. Depending on your definition of luck.
Ciri: Well, Geralt says you’re the most powerful mage he’s ever known.
Yennefer: Well, that’s nice of him.
Ciri: I dreamed about you once. Before I even knew you existed.
Yennefer: Dreams are powerful omens. Perhaps we were meant to find each other.
Ciri: [as they light candles] For Roach. For Mousesack.
Nenneke: Mousesack? Who is that?
Ciri: He died trying to protect me.
Nenneke: Then he must have loved you very much.
Ciri: Yes. I just wish he would have told me what I am. Not one of them did. Not until Geralt.
Nenneke: Sometimes, our elders set out to protect us, not knowing our strength.
Ciri: My grandmother was strong. Brave. Never hid from anything. She loved me more than anything. But she hated elves.
Nenneke: Hatred is an endless circle of fear and desperation. And who can tell which came first? Perhaps your grandmother’s hypocrisy was rooted in something honest? A desire to protect you.
Ciri: Well, she did a s**t job of that.
Nenneke: Your true power resides in more than your blood, Ciri. With the right guidance, you may have the ability to break this cycle of hatred, once and for all.
Ciri: Do you really believe that?
Nenneke: Remains to be seen.
Nenneke: [to Ciri] Geralt believes in you. I do too.
Yennefer: Did you think about me after Caingorn?
Geralt of Rivia: From time to time.
Yennefer: I fantasized about you quite a bit.
Geralt of Rivia: That a golem was ripping my insides out?
Yennefer: No, that your head was torn off by one.
Yennefer: You hurt me.
Geralt of Rivia: I know. You weren’t alone in your pain.
Yennefer: I know.
Yennefer: What changed your mind about claiming the girl? You seemed so certain it was a mistake back then.
Geralt of Rivia: Many things changed my mind. You among them.
Geralt of Rivia: Yen, your heart has been beating fast this whole time. You’re nervous.
Yennefer: So?
Geralt of Rivia: Why are you here?
Yennefer: I have some wounds that refuse to heal.
Geralt of Rivia: You still want to have a child?
Yennefer: No, it’s different this time.
Geralt of Rivia: Well, let’s hope it’s different for the both of us.
Ciri: [as they’re trying to get away from Rience] What do we do?
Yennefer: I don’t know.
Ciri: Most powerful mage Geralt’s ever known? Right.
Yennefer: It’s complicated.
Yennefer: This thing senses magic. And it isn’t mine. Which means you need to get us out of here.
Ciri: How?
Yennefer: I’m going to teach you the first thing I learned. Repeat after me.
Ciri: I’m afraid.
Yennefer: Ciri, we have to try.
Yennefer: [to Ciri] Lesson number one. See the outcome, make it happen.
Yennefer: [as Ciri portals them out of the temple] Well, you did it. Where the bloody hell are we?
Tissaia: What are you doing here?
Triss: I am loyal to you, Tissaia. No matter what’s happening here at Aretuza, this is, it’s bigger than that.
Tissaia: What is wrong?
Triss: I know for a fact a drop of her blood could change the world. In the wrong hands, she will destroy it.

Nenneke: If what you say about that girl’s power is true, you can’t help her.
Geralt of Rivia: I’ll find my own weapons.
Nenneke: What I mean is, Ciri needs more than you can give her now.
Geralt of Rivia: I swore to protect her!
Geralt of Rivia: Nenneke, I will not sit back and wait for something worse than a rogue mage and his agenda to happen to her.
Nenneke: Do you believe Yennefer means to harm the girl?
Geralt of Rivia: I wish Yennefer knew of the balance you spoke of. More than you know, I wish it. But I learned my lesson about Yennefer and wishes.
Nenneke: Sometimes, we assume the worst because we fear to hope.
Ciri: Cintra. I’ve fantasized about going back. Finding the Black Knight and shoving my sword through his throat until his feathers are soaked in blood. But Geralt wouldn’t want me to go. He’d want me to avoid danger.
Yennefer: Geralt will hold out as long as he can. We must go to Cintra. Together.
Ciri: You’ve seen what happens to people who try to help me. I have to go alone.
Yennefer: Ciri, I’m not leaving your side. If anything were to happen to you, Geralt would never forgive me.
Vilgefortz: You’re my partner. You can tell me if something’s wrong.
Tissaia: Our new position of authority means new responsibilities. I don’t want to burden you.
Vilgefortz: Our new position of authority doesn’t change the fact that I love you. Your pain is my pain.
Prison Guard: Sing another word, and I’ll cut your tongue out!
Jaskier: Rude.
Jaskier: F***ing hell! You know what? We’re trying to rehearse in here! Gentlemen, I am so sorry. Give me a moment. I need to deal with this guard’s complete lack of decorum. Good sir, you would not know talent if I shoved it up your… Geralt.
Jaskier: [as he embraces Geralt] F*** it.
Geralt of Rivia: I’ve missed you too.
Jaskier: What are you doing here?
Geralt of Rivia: We don’t have time. We need to go.
Jaskier: Are you sure?
Geralt of Rivia: Yes.
Jaskier: The last time we saw each other, you basically told me to f*** off. Remember? And you left me on a mountain. Have you seen these boots? I mean, I pretty much just slid all the way down that hill back to Caingorn.
Geralt of Rivia: I need your help.
Jaskier: Fine. But first…
Jaskier: [to the mice] Gentlemen, it’s been an honor.
Jaskier: [as Geralt looks at him] What? I made new friends. Get over it. Jealous
Yennefer: [referring to Geralt] You two seem to have quite the bond.
Ciri: I mean, he’s a grump of the first order. Has the social graces of a wild boar, but he’s…
Yennefer: He’s your protector.
Ciri: He’s the father I never had. When I’m with him, I don’t feel alone anymore.
Yennefer: I know what you mean.
Ciri: What was between you and Geralt?
Yennefer: Longing, regret, hope, and fear. I don’t think I’ve omitted anything.
Ciri: So, you love him too.
Stregobor: It’s even worse than I feared. Not just an elven baby, but one born to a mage.
Tissaia: Only you could see a threat where everyone else sees a baby.
Artorius: Not all of us have your soft spot for elves, Tissaia.
Vilgefortz: She’s a co-chair on this council. She doesn’t have soft spots.
Stregobor: Well, you’d know.
Vilgefortz: Unlike your tenure, Artorius, we no longer act on unfounded prejudice and rumors.
Tissaia: Which is why I find it so very hard to believe that you came here simply to share gossip.
Dijkstra: Well, in my line of work, today’s gossip is next month’s news.
Jaskier: [as they come by a river] Oh, blessed nectar. I have not washed in quite some time, and I’m beginning to smell like a Nilfgaardian’s ballsack. So if you’ll excuse me, hold this. I have been looking forward to this! God, it’s cold! Oh, you could hang portraits off my nipples right now.
Geralt of Rivia: What was Yennefer doing in Oxenfurt?
Jaskier: Well, she was saving my life.
Geralt of Rivia: What?
Jaskier: Yeah, I know. I’m as surprised as you are, seeing as I trust her about as far as I could wring her stringy, weird neck, but it’s true. She risked her life for me. You know, I always knew there was some deeper feeling for me beneath all that rage and hair. She’s got a lot of hair, that woman.
Geralt of Rivia: [referring to Yennefer] What was her angle?
Jaskier: Not an attractive one. She was on the run. She’d lost her magic. She was almost tolerable.
Geralt of Rivia: She lost her magic?
Jaskier: Yeah, I know! It was great! Well, unless she was lying. Only just realizing now that she might have been lying.
Geralt of Rivia: She’s in league with the Deathless Mother.
Jaskier: Well, she sounds like a hoot. Who is the Deathless Mother, Geralt?
Geralt of Rivia: Voleth Meir. The first witchers were hired to imprison her. They entombed her in her hut.
Jaskier: But someone’s gone and opened up the door. That someone being…
Geralt of Rivia: She wouldn’t.
Jaskier: She would. What? Sacrifice your Child Surprise to get her magic back? You bet your bloated biceps she would.
Geralt of Rivia: Yarpen Zigrin. Your aim’s gone to s**t.
Yarpen Zigrin: Well, if it isn’t the White f***ing Wolf and the big f***ing mouth.
Yarpen Zigrin: [to his men] Put your weapons down, numpty a**eholes. This is an old friend.
Jaskier: Friends. Plural.
Yarpen Zigrin: You remember my men.
Jaskier: Of course. Good to see you all again.
Jaskier: [to Geralt] I have absolutely no recollection of any of these people.
Yarpen Zigrin: You ain’t looking to join a crew yourself? Be happy to have you as our sixth. Even if you do smell like s**te.
Geralt of Rivia: I can’t right now, Yarpen. And I need a horse. I’ll pay you double with interest once I find some coin.
Yarpen Zigrin: Normally, I’d tell you to s**t twice and die, but we’re on the Trail, and you never refuse help on the Trail.
Yarpen Zigrin: What’s the mission, if you don’t mind me asking?
Geralt of Rivia: I do.
Yarpen Zigrin: The secret kind. My favorite.
Geralt of Rivia: [to the horse] You’re not my usual type. But you’ll do.
Yennefer: Lesson number two. Let’s see what your Chaos can do. You can either be too strong to fail, or too weak to try. You can do this, Ciri. I believe in you.
Ciri: I’m so sorry. I don’t know what happened.
Yennefer: When you have power like this, never apologize.
Artorius: [to Fringilla] There are those who are obsessed with finding power, and those who know their place. You know which one you are, thank gods. You wouldn’t have come back here if you didn’t.
Fringilla: I have so much resentment for my Aretuzan training that I forget there were bright spots. Botany, for example. And where else could I have learned the paralytic qualities of nightshade? Or how to mask it in a glass of mead? My most valuable lesson, though came on my last night there. When Yennefer of Vengerberg stole the seat of Aedirn to which I was entitled. And that taught me whenever a lesser light tries to steal what is yours, you do not sit there and take it.
Fringilla: How did it come to this, Cahir? I may never know if you were planning to overthrow me or not. But one thing I do know. I am never going back to that dungeon. I would much rather put this knife in my own eye and end it all.
Jaskier: Look, I understand that what’s-her-demon wants to eat your Child Surprise and all, and I’m happy to help save her, but you never even wanted this child in the first place. And now, it’s like she has turned your entire world upside down. I guess, what I’m really asking you is, this is what pleases you?
Geralt of Rivia: I thought ignoring Ciri’s existence would make everything better. I was wrong.
Jaskier: And what about Yennefer?
Geralt of Rivia: If she’s hurt Ciri, I may just have to kill her.
Jaskier: Oh, no. Well, obviously we’ll kill her. We’ll definitely kill her. I just haven’t found a good enough jabbing stick yet. But what if she’s changed too? Look, people do stupid things when they think they’re trapped in a corner, Geralt. And they say stupid things. That’s what friends do. They come back.
Geralt of Rivia: This is different. And I’m sorry, Jaskier.
Jaskier: Oh, you are always so emotional! I mean, it’s just yap, yap, yap with you sometimes. “Oh, Jaskier, I’m so sad and complicated!”
Geralt of Rivia: Shut up, Jaskier.
Jaskier: You shut up. And that’s a perfect impression of you, by the way.
Yennefer: Promise me something, if we get separated. Remember what you have. Magic. It’s lodged in you. Like a spiked arrow. It wounds you, deeply. But it’s a strange sort of pain. Combined with bliss. Trust me. It’s all you’ll ever need. It’s everything.
Ciri: I want to believe you. I really do, but when you had magic, you controlled the Chaos. But it controls me. And no one’s been able to teach me how to use it. And I’m afraid, Yennefer.
Ciri: We were in trouble and needed help, and you betrayed us!
Yennefer: I was stupid. And I was selfish! You have to come with me. Now!
Ciri: I don’t trust you.
Geralt of Rivia: Jaskier, take her to Kaer Morhen. Ciri knows the way.
Ciri: No, I’m staying with you.
Geralt of Rivia: You can’t.
Ciri: Why? Where are you going?
Geralt of Rivia: To slay a monster. I’ll be with you soon, I promise.
Jaskier: [as Ciri walks by and ignores him] The Child Surprise, I’ve heard so much… Like father, like daughter.
Yarpen Zigrin: The girl. Yours?
Geralt of Rivia: Mine. Mine, Zigrin.
Geralt of Rivia: [referring to Voleth Meir] The first witchers imprisoned her in this hut for eternity. She shouldn’t be able to escape. Unless…
Yennefer: What?
Geralt of Rivia: Unless she’s had her fill of pain and desperation. It would have given her new life.
Yennefer: To do what?

'I'm tired too. But what of it? Life goes on.' - Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher Season 2) Share on X
Geralt of Rivia: You betrayed us.
Yennefer: Geralt, please. It’s not what you think! Let me explain. Before Voleth Meir showed me her true self, she came to me as a little girl. Some f***ed-up version of myself. Yes, she feeds on pain! But everyone on this Continent is in pain. Voleth Meir is more personal than that. She’s more specific.
Geralt of Rivia: Explain.
Yennefer: She finds your weakness, the gaping wound in your heart, the thing that makes you feel hopeless, and she plunges her finger into it and makes it hurt so badly, you’d do anything.
Geralt of Rivia: Like sacrificing an innocent child.
Yennefer: Yes. Except I couldn’t do it!
Yennefer: Geralt, look, I know this means nothing to you, but I understand now how special she is! When Chaos left me, I never thought that I’d feel that spark, that life again. But Ciri, she radiates it. At Melitele’s, when I helped her control it, when she opened that portal under my direction, I felt like…
Geralt of Rivia: I know how it feels, Yennefer.
Yennefer: I don’t know what Voleth Meir wants from Ciri, but we have to protect her.
Geralt of Rivia: I have to protect her.
Vesemir: When you took Eskell down, it broke me. But you were right. It had to be done. Same as now. Ciri has to be eliminated. Daughter or demon, she has done too much damage.
Geralt of Rivia: Witchers don’t kill out of fear. They kill to save lives.
Vesemir: I said that.
Geralt of Rivia: You did.
Vesemir: It feels like bulls**t now.
Geralt of Rivia: [to Vesemir] There are too many medallions hanging on that tree. But spilling Ciri’s blood won’t bring them back. You thought she was strong enough to be the next witcher. Just like I was. She can survive this. She needs you. I need you.
Yennefer: Jaskier! I need you. It’s Ciri. She’s been possessed.
Jaskier: Yep. The last time I woke up next to you, you grabbed me by the balls, and then blew up the building, so.
Yennefer: Come on!
Jaskier: Oh, for f***’s sake. Wait. Did you say possessed?
Jaskier: [to Yennefer] Before you tell me what’s going on, please tell me you’re making a hangover cure. Because my head feels like it’s lodged between the buttocks of a fat and sexually rageful goat.
Yennefer: A spell from the extraction or separation family would do it.
Jaskier: Yes, it would. If you had your magic, which you don’t.
Yennefer: If I had my f***ing magic. Instead, I’ll have to make do with whatever I find in a witcher laboratory. Like this.
Jaskier: Oh, yay! A little stone. You’ve saved us all.
Yennefer: Active jasper. Provider of warmth, energy, balance. Golden oriole.
Jaskier: Golden what? Areola? Pretty sure that’s got something to do with nipples.
Yennefer: Neutralizes the effects of poisons in the blood stream.
Jaskier: Then again, if it was up to me, everything would be about nipples.
Yennefer: I pulled Ciri into this mess, and I’ll do everything I can to get her out of it.
Jaskier: Tell me what to do.
Yennefer: Find Geralt. Give him the jasper.
Jaskier: What for?
Yennefer: It helps turn wrongs into rights. He’ll understand.
Jaskier: Wait, hang on. What are you going to do?
Yennefer: What witches do best. Make a potion.
Geralt of Rivia: I want Ciri back. Name your price.
Ciri (Voleth Meir): It’s not a question of price. It’s a matter of cost. Make your ask.
Geralt of Rivia: Release her, and you can have me.
Ciri (Voleth Meir): That is enticing. What glorious pain we could create together. It’s too late for that.
Geralt of Rivia: Tell me what you want with her. Tell me what she is to you.
Ciri (Voleth Meir): She is the future. And you’re in my way.
Geralt of Rivia: Ciri! I need you to hear me! You can fight this!
Jaskier: Right the wrongs? Well, Yennefer, I don’t see how things could get any wronger!
Geralt of Rivia: Hate. Our hate is the pain she needs to grow stronger. Let’s not give her what she wants. Ciri. If you can hear me, if you can hear us, come home.
Geralt of Rivia: [referring to Voleth Meir] Her hut burned. She needs a vessel to exist within this sphere. Ciri can’t escape. Unless…
Yennefer: Unless I right this wrong. My wounds wouldn’t heal…
Geralt of Rivia: Yen.
Yennefer: Vecause magic wasn’t what I was missing. I can be the vessel.
Geralt of Rivia: No.
Yennefer: For her.
Geralt of Rivia: I know you’re afraid, Ciri, but what you see in there, it isn’t real.
Geralt of Rivia: We belong together. You, us, it’s not perfect. But it is real. It’s yours. We are your family. And we need you.
Ciri: I have to go home.
Geralt of Rivia: If you can pull monsters through the monolith, you can send one back again.
Ciri: What?
Geralt of Rivia: You can do this.
Ciri: Yennefer’s lessons. But I don’t know if I can…
Geralt of Rivia: I believe in you.
Ciri: Alright. See the outcome. Make it happen.
Ciri: [to Lambert] You’re panting like a dying mammoth.
Jaskier: Look at us. Just one big happy family, eh?
Lambert: No.
Jaskier: Right. Yeah.
Geralt of Rivia: Ciri and I can’t stay. We need to keep moving.
Vesemir: Sorry, Wolf. I should have trusted you!
Geralt of Rivia: Vesemir, it’s not that. The demon. The Wild Hunt. She’s marked for something, and it doesn’t end there. If mages and royals find out she’s still alive, and what she’s capable of, they won’t stop coming for her.
Queen Meve of Lyria: I’m just going to say it. Princess Cirilla created far less trouble for us when she was dead.
King Foltest of Temeria: We’ll put a bounty on the girl.
Tissaia: And anyone who protects her.
Queen Meve of Lyria: That’s quite barbarous. Even for me.
Tissaia: Welcome to the Brotherhood.
Geralt of Rivia: You’re whole again.
Yennefer: I felt it come back when I…
Geralt of Rivia: When you sacrificed yourself for Ciri.
Yennefer: A sacrifice I’d make again, in a heartbeat.
Geralt of Rivia: I don’t forgive you, Yennefer.
Yennefer: I know I’ve hurt you. Yet I can’t help but wish it could begin again.
Geralt of Rivia: Use your knowledge of magic to train the girl. You’re the only person who’s helped her control her powers.
Yennefer: As if I’d trust anyone else with her.
Geralt of Rivia: [to Yennefer] Villentretenmerth told us we were made for each other. Destined for each other. And that nothing would come of it because destiny alone isn’t sufficient. Something more is needed. She is something more.
Ciri: Every time I think I can move forward, there’s this force bringing me back into darkness. I’m just tired, Geralt.
Geralt of Rivia: I’m tired too, Ciri. But what of it? Life goes on. Us three, we’ll help each other. What is destined cannot be avoided.
Yennefer: And it shouldn’t be.
Ciri: My scream woke Voleth Meir. That’s why she wanted me.
Geralt of Rivia: She wanted to go home. You were the key to her future. What I can’t figure out though, is when did Nilfgaard realize that you were the key to theirs? They knew before anyone else. How do they know the truth about you, Ciri?
Emhyr: Losing a child is brutal, but you are right. It can move mountains.
Fringilla: Desperate times.
Cahir: Desperate measures.
Emhyr: Desperate indeed. I would know.
Cahir: Sir?
Emhyr: That’s how I felt when I realized I could no longer count on you to fulfill my mission. I’m the one who ordered the death of that elven baby. I had to. It was the best path to helping me find my daughter. Take them away.
