MCU superhero action adventure directed by Kenneth Branagh, which centers on Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the son of Odin (Anthony Hopkins), king of the Norse gods, who will soon inherit the throne of Asgard from his aging father, but is cast out of Asgard by Odin for his arrogance and sent to Earth to live amongst humans, while Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s brother, plots mischief in Asgard. Falling in love with scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) teaches Thor much-needed lessons, and his new-found strength comes into play as a villain from his homeland sends dark forces toward Earth.
Odin: Once mankind accepted a simple truth, that they were not alone in this universe. Some worlds man believed home to their Gods. Others they knew to fear. From around the cold and darkness came the Frost Giants. Threatening to plunge the mortal world into a new ice age. But humanity would not face this threat alone.
Odin: Our armies drove the Frost Giants back into the heart of their own world. The cost was great. In the end, their king fell. And the source of their power was taken from them. With the last great war ended, we withdrew from the other worlds and returned home at the realm eternal, Asgard. And here we remain as the beacon of hope. Shining out across the stars. And though we have fallen into man’s myths and legends, it was Asgard and its warriors that brought peace to the universe.
Odin: A wise king, never seeks out war. But he must always be ready for it.
Young Thor: I’m ready, father.
Young Loki: So am I!
Odin: Only one of you can ascend to the throne. But both of you were born to be kings!

Odin: [at Thor’s coronation] Thor Odinson, my heir, my first born. So long entrusted with the mighty hammer, Mjolnir, forged in the heart of a dying star. Its power has no equal! It’s a weapon to destroy or as a tool to build. It is a fit companion for a king. I have defended Asgard, and the lives of the innocent across my realms in the time of the great beginning.
Odin: [after the Frost Giants have broken into their weapons vault] What action would you take?
Thor: March into Jotunheim as you once did. Teach them a lesson. Break their spirits so they’ll never dare to cross our borders again.
Odin: You’re thinking only as a warrior.
Thor: Well, this was an act of war!
Odin: It was the act of but a few, doomed to fail.
Thor: Look at how far they got!
Odin: We will find the breach in our defenses and it will be sealed.
Thor: As King of Asgard…
Odin: But you’re not King! Not yet.
Thor: It’s unwise to be in my company now, brother. This was to be my day of triumph.
Loki: It’ll come. In time.
2. Thor: The Dark World (2013)
'There's nothing more reassuring than realizing that the world is crazier than you are.' - Erik Selvig (Thor: The Dark World Quotes) Click To Tweet
MCU superhero fantasy adventure sequel directed by Alan Taylor. Thor: The Dark World (2013) follows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) teaming up with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to save the Nine Realms from the Dark Elves led by the vengeful Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), who intends to plunge the universe into darkness.
Odin: Long before the birth of light there was darkness, and from that darkness came the Dark Elves. Millennia ago the most ruthless of their kind, Malekith, sought to transform our universe back into one of eternal night. Such evil was blossomed through the power of the Aether, an ancient force of infinite destruction. The noble of armies of Asgard, led by my father, King Bor, waged a mighty war against these wretches.
Odin: As the nine worlds converged above him Malekith could at last unleash the Aether. But Asgard had ripped the weapon from his grasp. Without it the Dark Elves fell. With the battle all but lost Malekith sacrificed his own people in desperate attempt to lay waste to Asgard’s army. Malekith was ambushed and the Aether was no more. Or so we were led to believe.
Loki: Hello, mother. Have I made you proud.
Frigga: Please, don’t make this worse.
Loki: Define worse.
Odin: Enough! I will speak to the prisoner alone.

Loki: I really don’t see what all the fuss is about.
Odin: Do you not truly feel the gravity of your crimes? Wherever you go there is war, ruin and death.
Loki: I wanted to rule the people of Earth as a benevolent God, just like you.
Odin: We are not Gods. We are born. We live. We die, just as humans do.
Loki: Give or take five thousand years.
Odin: All this because Loki desires a throne.
Loki: It’s my birthright!
Odin: Your birthright was to die as a child! Cast out onto a frozen rock. If I had not taken you in you would not be here now to hate me.
Loki: If I had fully asked for true mercy, I’d say just swing it. It’s not that I don’t love our little talks, it’s just, I don’t love them.
Odin: Frigga is the only reason you are still alive, and you will never see her again. You will spend the rest of your days in the dungeon.
Loki: And what of Thor? You’ll make that witless oaf king while I rot in chains?
Odin: Thor must strive to undo the damage you have done. He will bring order to the Nine Realms. And then, yes, he will be king.
