Best Quotes

Connor: What’s “obtuse” mean?
Owen: Like annoyingly insensitive.
Connor: Has a girl ever called you obtuse?
Owen: Only your mother, son.
Connor: Were you?
Owen: It could also mean like very slow to understand. I’m pretty sure I was that.
Connor: That makes more sense.

Owen: Just tell her you’re sorry, and you’ll try harder.
Connor: I’m not taking dating advice from you, dad. No offense.
Owen: Can girls have cooties for one more year, please, while I mentally prepare for what’s coming?

Connor: Are you in trouble? What did you do?
Owen: The right thing, you understand me? I did the right thing.
Connor: If you did the right thing, then why are you so scared?

Ethan: Why did they put you in a fire tower?
Hannah: Well, I’m just lucky, I guess.

Ethan: So, who can tell me what the goal of the day is?
Vic: Threesome sounds pretty good. Or winning the lottery.
Hannah: Threesome for you would be winning the lottery.

Hannah: I’m feeling naughty.
Vic: Well, me being the team player, I guess I can help you with that.
Hannah: Oh, no, no, no. I do not have sex with a man I have seen s**t in the woods.
Vic: Get the f*** out of here. I have the very same rule.
Hannah: You don’t have sex with men who s**t in the woods?

Hannah: I do nothing involving the word “corn”.

Ethan: Look, H, I know what you’re trying to do. Maybe those other a**holes, they don’t see it, but I certainly do. You know, maybe a summer in a firetower by yourself do you some good.
Hannah: Maybe. Maybe I’ll just jump.

Owen: What do you know about my job, son?
Connor: You’re an accountant. At least, I thought you were.
Owen: I’m a forensic accountant, which means, I look for things that don’t add up. And I found some. The man I work for, he was killed today because of what I found. But I still know it, which means they’re going to come after me too.

Owen: The case implicates a lot of people, son. People with a lot to lose. Governors, congressmen. We can only trust people that we know. You understand me?
Connor: Yeah.

Ethan: [referring to Hannah] Nothing like arguing with my wife about how I spoke to my ex-girlfriend. Especially when my wife takes her side.
Allison: I’m not taking her side, I’m just not taking yours.
Ethan: You are taking her side, because I don’t even have a side.
Allison: Then you’re on her side.
Ethan: What is that, like an accusation? Baby, are we fighting?
Allison: God, men are simple. We’re not fighting, babe.

Ethan: I love how somehow it’s my fault that I don’t feel the baby kicking.
Allison: Oh, babe, everything’s your fault. The baby is your fault.
Ethan: See, scientifically speaking, it’s fifty percent my fault, fifty percent your fault.
Allison: Is that what you think?
Ethan: That’s what I think.

Allison: I think that everything is your fault until this kid turns four. We clear?
Ethan: Ah! We’re so clear, baby.

Owen: [referring to the note] It’s for you. It’s all my secrets. But I don’t want you to read it, or even look at it. Promise?
Connor: What am I supposed to do with it?
Owen: Give it to someone you trust.
Connor: When?
Owen: With a little luck, never.

Sheriff: Sure you don’t want a piece of this steak?
Ethan: You know I don’t eat that crap. That s**t right there is going to kill you.
Sheriff: I think I rode this old bull back in the ’70s.

Sheriff: Go, stop crime.
Ethan: I’ll do my best.

Ethan: You know, you should maybe consider a salad.
Sheriff: Who eats salad for breakfast?

Restaurant Patron: Sheriff. Your wife’s calling. Do you want to take the call?
Sheriff: Absolutely not.

Ryan: How are you holding up?
Hannah: I’m in a twenty-by-twenty box on stilts with no toilet. I have to get out of here.

Ryan: You somewhere better?
Hannah: Define “better”.
Ryan: Giving you a psych eval three days after the event was criminal. None of us could have passed it.

Hannah: I read the wind wrong.
Ryan: They read it wrong, then told you wrong. Not your fault. What choice did you have?

Hannah: I should have gone to them, and instead I was a f***ing coward.
Ryan: Then you’d be dead too.
Hannah: Well, that’s our job. Do you think about it?
Ryan: Every day.

Ryan: Listen, don’t do anything stupid. There’s a lot of people who care about you.
Hannah: Yeah.
Ryan: Come on, there’s me. There’s Ben. There’s me.

Connor: [as they pass Jack changing a tire] Are you going to help?
Owen: Absolutely not.

Owen: [after he’s been shot] There’s a fallen tree, right there to the right. You hide under that. Don’t make a sound, okay? No matter what you see. Creeks lead to rivers, rivers lead to towns. You call the news, you call the TV station. You give them this.
Connor: I want to stay with you.
Owen: I love you, son.

Jack: [referring to Owen] Will this f***er ever die?

Patrick: [after they’ve killed Owen] S**t. We left that scene a mess.
Jack: Oh, you want to clean it up? It is what it is. This job needed two teams. F***ing two teams, like I told them.
Patrick: Fascinating where they decide to save money.

Hannah: Stop! I’m not going to hurt you. I want to see where the blood’s coming from.
Connor: It’s not my blood!
Hannah: Whose blood is it?

Hannah: Alright, listen. My name is Hannah. What’s yours?
Connor: F*** you.
Hannah: Oh, nice.

Connor: Can you call the news?
Hannah: Yeah. Sure, I can call whoever you want.

Arthur: [referring to Connor] You missed the boy
Jack: That seems unlikely.
Arthur: We promise absolutes, and “unlikely” is not an absolute.

Arthur: Assume the worst case scenario. Assume catastrophe, and act accordingly.

Jack: Should have been two teams. Hit them at the same time.
Arthur: What got us here doesn’t really matter, now, does it, Jack?
Jack: No, it doesn’t.
Arthur: No, it doesn’t. It’s a zero-sum game. Treat it that way.

Patrick: This is a lot of risk for a boy.
Jack: Well, they’re worried about what he might know. And what he saw us do.

Jack: From this point forward, we put down anyone who sees our faces.
Patrick: That’s going to bring a lot of attention to this town. There’s enough of that already.
Jack: Give them something else to worry about.
[then proceeds to set the forest on fire]
Jack: Let them focus on this for a while.

Hannah: Are you in trouble?
Connor: Yeah.
Hannah: Yeah? Anyone else in trouble? Anyone we need to be looking for?
Connor: Not anymore.

Connor: My dad said if anything happened to him, I should find someone I can trust.
Hannah: Something happen to your dad?
Connor: Are you someone I can trust?
Hannah: I’m absolutely someone you can trust.

Connor: I hid under a tree. And ran down to the creek. Because creeks lead to rivers, and rivers lead to towns.
Hannah: That they do.

Jack: [to Allison referring to her unborn baby] Well, I want you to think about her when I ask you these questions. You run a survival school? Telling me the truth is how you survive.

Jack: You’re pointing that the wrong way.
Allison: No, I’m not.
[uses the fire extinguisher to set Jack’s face on fire]

Connor: He died right in front of me.
Hannah: [holds Connor as he sobs] Let it out, buddy. Let it out.

Jack: [pointing his gun at Ethan] You’re about to be a father. That’s the only thought I want in your mind.

Jack: We have another man with your wife. On my word, she will be executed. You will not be a father anymore. Do you understand?
Ethan: I understand.

Hannah: [to Connor] A few years from now, you are going to find yourself near a lake, or a forest behind your house, with some saucy blonde, and you are going to want to take full advantage of that situation. Campfires are like catnip for teenage girls. And all you need is some fuel, some heat, and voila! You’re swapping spit with a cheerleader.

Connor: Getting struck by lightning made you weird.
Hannah: I was already weird.
Connor: You just look sad to me.
Hannah: I look sad?

Hannah: There was a fire last year that I was in charge of fighting. And I thought the wind was doing one thing, and it was doing another. So instead of fighting it, we found ourselves running from it. Which is not where you want to be. And there were three boys, around your age. They got caught in the fire, and all I could do was watch.

Connor: I watched my mother die of cancer.
Hannah: It is impossible to feel sorry for myself around you. I’m sorry.
Connor: Me too.

Hannah: Let’s get you warm, buddy.
Connor: My dad called me buddy.
Hannah: Oh, f***. I’m sorry, I won’t call you buddy.
Connor: No, it’s fine. You can call me buddy.

Ethan: I’ll tell you this much, I’ve seen a thousand wrecks. There’s no way somebody survives that, let alone a kid.
Jack: Well, good. Should be easy to find then. So let’s start f***ing looking.

Ethan: Yeah, I think I’m done. I think I’m going to go ahead, I’m just going to keep my dignity. Look, we know how this thing’s going to end, right? F*** it, I know. So let’s just f***ing do it now, huh?
Jack: Play your cards right, Deputy, you could live through this.
Ethan: What the f*** do I look like? Do I look like the stupidest m*therf***er on this planet?

Ethan: You going to let me live, huh?
Jack: Yeah.
Ethan: Oh, f*** that would be mistake. You let me live and I will shout your description to anybody who will f***ing listen.

Jack: [to Ethan] You will not talk. Ever. You know why? Because when we find this boy,I’m not killing him. You are. That’s how bad I don’t want to shoot a pregnant woman. But you try this s**t again, I will f***ing burn her alive. Have I made myself clear?

Hannah: [as she sees the fire] We got to go back.
Connor: I’m not going through that again.
Hannah: We can’t go through that. That eats everything in its path!

Hannah: Those men that came for your father, did you see their faces?
Connor: Yeah.
Hannah: Come here.
Connor: What?
Hannah: Is that them?
Connor: That’s them.

Jack: What kind of fire watcher leaves his cabin with a fire burning?
Patrick: And what are the chances that fire watcher has a weapon?
Ethan: You’re in the forest of Montana, so the chances are pretty good.

Patrick: Hey, you’re going up that tower. Boy is in there, you’re going to bring him down to me. If he isn’t, start a fire in the middle of that cabin and burn it to the ground.
Ethan: Why burn it?
Patrick: So I know you ain’t lying.

Ethan: Nobody’s here! The door’s locked!
Patrick: It won’t be the first door you’ve kicked in.

Ethan: You got a weapon in here, H?
Hannah: I have a pretty sharp axe.
Ethan: I’m afraid that’s not going to do it.

Ethan: I don’t know how to get us out of this.
Hannah: The fire’s going to be here in about an hour. That should get us out of this.
Ethan: We don’t have an hour.

Jack: I’m fading here, partner.
Patrick: Yeah, I know.

Hannah: Keep going.
Connor: Toward the fire?
Hannah: Yeah, buddy.

Jack: I hate this f***ing place.
Allison: It hates you back.
[she shoot and kills him]

Hannah: Listen to me. You’re going to run a hundred yards towards the fire. You’re going to turn left, and you’re going to keep running until you get to a creek. When you get to a creek, you find the deepest, widest part, and you get in and you lay down. You understand?
Connor: No. No, I’m not leaving you!

Ethan: You got to get out of here now. Hey.
Allison: No, I’m not leaving you.
Ethan: It’s about our baby girl. Nothing matters if she don’t make it, you understand me?
Allison: [referring to the fire] No one makes it through that, baby.

Patrick: [to Hannah] You really want to die for this kid? You don’t even know him.

Patrick: [as hits Hannah] Connor! You’re going to hide, huh? I’ll show you what happens when you run and hide. When you come out, I’ll stop. Keep hiding, I’ll keep hurting her. You watching this? Huh?
Hannah: Don’t come out!

Connor: [referring to Hannah] If I come out, will you let her go?
Patrick: No, I won’t. You know, it won’t be this. She won’t suffer.

Patrick: Do it.
Hannah: Look. The fire will do it for me. You can f***ing suffer.

Allison: [as the fire is getting close to them] They’ll have planes in the air soon.
Ethan: Wonder whether we’ll still be here.
Allison: I don’t know. I love you.
Ethan: I love you.

Hannah: [to Connor, as they’re in water] Take a deep breath, hold it, and lay back.

Hannah: [after they survive the fire] Come on. Let’s go.
Connor: Where are we going?
Hannah: Anywhere but here, buddy.

Hannah: We looked it right in the eye.
Ryan: What was it like?
Hannah: It was beautiful.
Connor: I didn’t think it was beautiful. It scared the s**t out of me.
Ryan: Well, it scared the s**t out of me too, sport.

Connor: You eat these?
Hannah: Three meals a day.
Connor: No wonder you’re so skinny.
Hannah: I’m lean, buddy. I’m lean.

Connor: What happens next?
Hannah: Well, you do the interview…
Connor: No, I mean after that. I mean tomorrow. Next month. Where am I going to go?
Hannah: I don’t know. But I promise you, we’re going to figure it out together.
