Almut: Maybe it’s time to finally get a dog. I read somewhere that pets, dogs, are really good for children, helping them to cope with like big, life stuff. Because once they’ve gone through the death of a pet, their ability to handle all the other terrible s**t goes up.
Tobias: So you think we should procure a dog in order to end its life prematurely as a way of…
Almut: I’m obviously not suggesting we kill a dog. Maybe just a really old one.
Almut: I’m saying I’m not particularly interested in a treatment plan that accidentally wastes our time. I’m saying, in that particular scenario, I’d much rather we have six f***ing amazing, fantastic, proactive months than twelve really really s**tty passive ones. I’m not saying I don’t want to do the treatment. I’m just saying, I want it to be the right choice.
Tobias: So sorry, but do we know each other?
Almut: Oh. Yeah. No. Sorry. I ran you over.
Tobias: [referring to telling Ella about Almut’s cancer] Yeah, I’m glad we decided just to talk to her instead of killing a dog.
Almut: Marks out of ten for my tiny sausage?
Tobias: It’s ten.

Tobias: [to Almut] It would seem to me preferable to have a moderately-awkward conversation right now rather than a completely destructive one in five to ten years time.
Almut: [referring to Tobias’s suggestion of trying to have a baby together] What’s the rush?
Tobias: Because I’m worried that’s there’s a very distinct and real possibility that I am about to fall in love with you.
Almut: I’m sorry. I’m just not someone who’s interested in making that kind of a promise. And in fact, there’s this little bit of me that thinks, “F*** you” for even asking.
Leah: [as Tobias turns up to the baby shower] Did anyone order a man as well as a pizza?

Tobias: [to Almut] I was guilty of focusing on the wrong, thing, aspect. Looking ahead instead of right in front of me, at you.
Almut: I guess, I think, unless you think I’m insane, I think I am inclined to say that I would like to hang on to at least one of my f***ing addled cancer-ridden ovaries.
Almut: [to Tobias] Just because I never, in a general sense, saw myself having kids, doesn’t mean that there isn’t a world where I couldn’t see myself, in time, deciding to have them with you.
Sanjaya: [referring to Almut] Jane, pregnant lady stuck in the khazi.
Tobias: Yeah, it seems like we have almost everything we need.
Almut: Except for a midwife.
Tobias: Al, I’m going to have to check again to see if I can see any body parts. Is that okay?
Almut: I’m not exactly in a position to say no, am I?
Tobias: [to Almut] How long have you been prioritising f***ing cooking instead of getting better?
Almut: I’m not particularly interested in dying with f*** all to show for it.
Almut: [to Tobias] I mean, did it ever occur to you that maybe I don’t want to just be someone’s dead f***ing mom? I mean, at this point nothing terrifies me more than the thought of having her having nothing whatsoever to remember me by. And it’s like there’s this bit of me that is f***ing desperate for her to know that I didn’t just give up. And wouldn’t it be quite the thing if maybe one day she decided to look back on this time, she actually chose to look back on this entire godforsaken episode and thought, “Wow, that’s my mom”?

Almut: I don’t want my relationship with Ella to be solely defined by my decline. Or maybe I actually just can’t bear the thought of being forgotten. I’m not sure which is worse.
Almut: Sometimes, Chef, inside just wants out.
Tobias: [as Almut finishes the cooking competition in time] She did it. She did it.
Almut: I did it.
