Best Quotes

Robert Ritter: [to Kelly] You a comedian? Is that it?
Keith Webb: No, no, no. He’s just a bit of a smart-a**. No, that’s not right. I’m the smart-a**.
Rowdy King: Yeah, he’s more of a bada**.

Karen Greer: Ritter, explain the Russians! They weren’t just contractors.
John Kelly: They were Russian military. But you knew that, didn’t you?

John Kelly: I should’ve been fully briefed. The Russians killed one of my men.
Robert Ritter: Well, that’s the job, sweetheart.

John Kelly: How’s my girl?
Pam Kelly: Pregnant. You should try it.
John Kelly: Oh, actually, I was talking about my other girl.

Robert Ritter: What we know is three perps are dead, and Senior Chief Kelly is in critical condition, isn’t likely to pull through. Also killed was his wife. Kelly is the third member of the Special Operations unit to be attacked in the last twenty-four hours.

Robert Ritter: We have to be alert to the fact that these SEALs get themselves into all worlds of trouble. Drugs, arms, information. And keeping that in mind, we are taking every possible scenario into consideration.

Karen Greer: What the hell was that “every possible scenario” bulls**t in there? My men were not dirty, and you know it. What is the whole story? And don’t bulls**t me, Ritter. Today is not the day for it.
Robert Ritter: We’re looking into it.

Karen Greer: How come both times my world has gone to s**t, you’re standing in the middle of it?
Robert Ritter: Just good luck, I guess.

John Kelly: Know who’s behind it?
Karen Greer: I don’t know.
John Kelly: Pros. They were pros.

John Kelly: The guy they found in my bedroom, I didn’t kill him. He was already dead when I got there. One got away. All I need is a name. Give me a name.
Karen Greer: Even if I knew, you know I can’t do that.

Secretary Clay: So you are actually telling me the massacres of our men, and their families, were foreign attacks on US soil.
Robert Ritter: Russians. By proxy. None of them were connected to Russia in an official capacity.

Karen Greer: They’re calling it national security. They know it was Russian nationals, and it’s just a file on a classified server somewhere now. I’m probably going to go to jail for this. But hey. These are your toe tags. I got them from Secretary Clay.
John Kelly: Where’s the fourth?
Karen Greer: Your survivor’s a ghost.

John Kelly: Yeah, you remember me? Huh? Who killed my wife? Huh? Who was the fourth guy at my house? Give me a name. You give me a name.
Andre Vaseliev: Okay. I’ll give you a name. John Kelly. You are the problem, John. You’re supposed to be dead, so wherever you go, death will follow.

John Kelly: Yeah, I punctured your lung. My wife Pam, she drowned in her own blood. Now, you give me a name. Give me a name, and I’ll make it quick.
Andre Vaseliev: Viktor Rykov.
[Kelly shoots and kills him]

Robert Ritter: We didn’t leak the Russian thing. I mean, why would we? We were the ones trying to cover it up.

Robert Ritter: There is the obvious concern that this new development sends the wrong message to Moscow.
Secretary Clay: The wrong message? They hit us at home. Now they’re paying attention.
Robert Ritter: And Kelly has a big target on his back. Even in prison, he won’t be safe.

Secretary Clay: Some situations warrant thinking outside the box. Has it occurred to you that John Kelly perhaps has done something we can’t? He shook a tree that needed shaking. So let’s see who else falls out.

Karen Greer: You’re pretty messy right now. In more ways than one.
John Kelly: No, I’m not.

John Kelly: I spent half my life playing that game. I’m the one that went to hell and did their dirty work. We served a country that didn’t love us back. Because we believed in what it could be. We fought for what America could be. But they crossed a line. They brought their war into my house. They took my wife. And they took my baby girl before she got a chance to take a breath. That contract is broken. They’re going to play by my rules now. I’ll show them what a pawn can do to a king.

John Kelly: [referring to Clay] If he wants to know what I know, then you got to get me out of here, and fast. Why do you think I ended up in a prison full of Russian mob? Think about it. They can get to me in here.

Karen Greer: [over phone] John, it’s me. We’re getting you out of there. Follow the US Marshal. You can trust him. Unless you’re not done.
John Kelly: I’m done.

John Kelly: You know you messed up when they send a motorcade.
US Marshal Kevin Townsend: Buddy, they’re going to write songs about all the s**t you messed up.

John Kelly: [to Clay] I think I’ve shown that I’m willing to go further than anyone to get the job done. Consider what I did in Dulles as an audition. Sir, if this guy’s as bad as he says he is, then you need somebody like me. And there’s nobody like me.

Karen Greer: It is my opinion that Senior Chief Kelly is not in the right state of mind to be in the field right now.
Secretary Clay: With all due respect, I think he’s perfectly suited. He goes too. But after the mission, you will return to the penitentiary as a felon.

John Kelly: “I don’t think Senior Chief Kelly’s fit for the field.” Hmm? What was that? You don’t trust me no more?
Karen Greer: Like I said, you’re pretty messy right now.

John Kelly: Before I put a bullet in Vaseliev’s head, you know what he told me? That death follows me around. He was right.

Karen Greer: You’re not responsible for any of that.
John Kelly: But I am. It’s my family. I’m going to make it right. After that, my life doesn’t matter.
Karen Greer: This isn’t a revenge mission. This is an extraction. We are going to bring him to justice. Tell me that’s going to be enough for you.
John Kelly: I’m done making promises that I can’t keep.

Dallas: Bet everyone thinks we’re dead.
John Kelly: Well, that’s the one thing we got going for us.
Hatchet: Ricardo. That’s my real name. If we’re going to die together, may as well drop the code names, right?

John Kelly: What if us getting shot down wasn’t an accident? It’s really hard to forget about that last mission we went on with Ritter. You were in the briefing. You heard what they said. Ritter was the one who said Rykov was dead. He was also the one who stopped the investigation into my wife’s murder. Isn’t that right? So now he’s the only a**hole, the only one that wasn’t on the plane.
Karen Greer: Give me a reason. What reason would he possibly have to sack the mission?
John Kelly: Don’t know. But either way, I’m going to get some answers.

John Kelly: Why don’t you tell us what our real mission is?
Robert Ritter: You know what my mission is, man.

John Kelly: What’s the real mission? Talk.
Robert Ritter: I’m trying to get Rykov!

Robert Ritter: [to Kelly] I didn’t sell you out.

Viktor Rykov: John Kelly. Good to see you again.
John Kelly: My wife’s name was Pam. And you’re going to say it before you die.
Viktor Rykov: I didn’t kill your wife. A decision did. Pawns, John, both of us. We’re just pawns serving the same king.

Viktor Rykov: Do you know I’m in the CIA, John? Did they tell you that? We wanted you here. You or anyone like you. What did they tell you, that you were here to prevent an upcoming attack? There are no other ops, John. You and me being here is the op.

Viktor Rykov: We fancy ourselves true patriots. We accept the possibility of our death. Both of us. Our lives offered willingly for the highest cause.
John Kelly: Yeah? What cause is that?
Viktor Rykov: America, John. All we have to do is die.

John Kelly: [after Rykov blows himself up] He wanted us here. He was waiting for us.

John Kelly: Everything, the assassination of the team, my house, this op, it was a setup from the beginning.
Robert Ritter: They’re trying to start a war.
John Kelly: Like Rykov said, now all we got to do is die.
Karen Greer: Yeah, we’re not going to do that.

John Kelly: I got a plan. I’m going to get up to the roof and clear a path for you guys.
Karen Greer: We’re not leaving you behind.
John Kelly: We can’t leave anybody behind. If we leave a trace, they’re going to get their war. You got to get the team out of here. To them, I’m not a soldier. I’m a felon. I can die here.

John Kelly: I thought I was a pawn hunting a king. Rykov wasn’t a king. He was just me on the other side. Pawns could never kill a king. All I’ve got to go back to is jail.

Robert Ritter: There’s a duffel bag of money below deck. It’s yours. But you never made it out alive. You died in Murmansk. With you as a ghost, maybe we can find out who’s behind this.
John Kelly: I was wrong about you.

Secretary Clay: Greer told me you were dead.
John Kelly: I’m sorry to sneak up on you like this, but I had to go ghost. It was the only way I could get you that information.
Secretary Clay: What information?
John Kelly: About the mission. We weren’t supposed to make it out of there alive.

John Kelly: [to Clay] You sent me all over this world, put my life on the line because I believed that we were on the right side of things. That our way would keep people like you in check.

John Kelly: So you’re going to tell me why. Why my family? My wife? My daughter? Why kill my team? Rykov was all in, so I’d like a little bit of what you sold him.
Secretary Clay: You are making a mistake.

John Kelly: [to Clay] So I suggest you start talking. Because if you don’t, I’m going to make you watch me kill your whole damn family.

Secretary Clay: You know who won World War II? It wasn’t the generals, or the admirals. It was the economists. More tanks, planes, ships. And all that spending lifted this entire nation out of poverty. Freed the world from tyranny. A big country needs big enemies. The best enemy we ever had was the Soviet Union. Our fear of them unified our people. Gave us purpose.

Secretary Clay: The problem today, John, is half this country thinks the other half is its enemy because they have no one else to fight. So, we gave them a real enemy. One with the power to threaten their lives, their freedoms. Freedoms you take for granted. And it works, John. It works. You just wouldn’t die.

John Kelly: You had no right to take so much from us.
Secretary Clay: No, I did. I swore an oath.
John Kelly: Me too. To my wife. Her name was Pam. And you’re going to say it before you die.

[after killing Clay, and letting himself drown, he sees Pam]
Pam Kelly: There is a heaven.
John Kelly: Is this it?
Pam Kelly: No, baby, it’s not.
John Kelly: And what about you? Are you in heaven?
Pam Kelly: I’m with you.
John Kelly: Not always.
Pam Kelly: No, not always. But now.
John Kelly: Pam, I miss you.
Pam Kelly: I know. It’s okay.

John Kelly: Vaseliev did say that none of this would be over until John Kelly was dead.
Karen Greer: Here’s your new legend, courtesy of your little friend Ritter.
John Kelly: [reads from his new passport] “John Clark.” That’s real creative.
Karen Greer: Yeah, well, the CIA isn’t exactly known for that.
John Kelly: That’s fair.

Karen Greer: What are you going to do, John?
John Kelly: What we do best. Disappear.
Karen Greer: And I know you’re dead and all now, but don’t be a stranger.
John Kelly: Yes, ma’am.

John Kelly: [mid-credits lines] I’ve been thinking about what happened. About how it could happen again. So I put together some thoughts. A multinational counterterrorist team, made up of US, UK, hand-selected NATO personnel, with the full support of their national intelligence services.
Robert Ritter: And who’s going to run that kind of thing?
John Kelly: I will. I want to present it to the president.
Robert Ritter: Do you, now?
John Kelly: Calling it Rainbow.
Robert Ritter: Why is that?
John Kelly: It’s personal.

Robert Ritter: Hey, John. It’s good to have you back.
John Kelly: It’s good to be back.
