Starring: Zendaya, Mike Faist, Josh O’Connor
Story:
Romantic sports drama directed by Luca Guadagnino. Challengers (2024) centers on Tashi (Zendaya), a tennis player turned coach, who has transformed her husband, Art (Mike Faist), from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a Challenger event, close to the lowest level of tournament on the pro tour, where he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick (Josh O’Connor), his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win.
We’ll add the best quotes once the movie is released and we’ve had a chance to watch it, but for now, here’s a small selection.
Quotes:
Patrick: Tashi Duncan. She’s going to turn her whole family into millionaires. She’ll have a fashion line, a foundation.
Art: You were incredible today.
Tashi: Thank you.
Art: I mean, it wasn’t even like tennis, it was an entirely different game.
Patrick: Hey, come hang out with us later.
Tashi: Want me to come tuck you in?
Art: No, we can just keep talking.
Tashi: How often does this happen? Going after the same girl?
Patrick: Not as often as you’d think.
Art: We usually have different types.
Tashi: So you’re saying I should be flattered?
Art: Aren’t you everybody’s type?
Tashi: Come here.
Art: Which one of us?
Art: [referring to Patrick] He’s not in love with you.
Tashi: What makes you think I want someone to be in love with me?
Patrick: [to Art] It’s nice to see you lit up about something, even if it’s my girlfriend.
Reporter: Art’s got his coach, Tashi Donaldson, who also is his wife.
Art: I’m playing for both of us, Tashi.
Patrick: I think, maybe, you’re disturbed by the fact that she could’ve been into someone like me.
Art: When we were teenagers.
Patrick: When we were teenagers.
Art: Hey. I love you.
Tashi: I know.
Tashi: You don’t know what tennis is. It’s a relationship.
Tashi: We went somewhere really beautiful together.
Tashi: I’m taking such good care of my little white boys.
Patrick: I assume you planned this?
Tashi: Not this part.
