Loki Season 2 Best Quotes
Where to Watch:
1. Ouroboros
Hunter B-15: People have lives on the timeline, Mobius.
Mobius: Yes, I know.
Hunter B-15: They should have the chance to live those lives.
Mobius: Think about it. Hey, everything you’ve been doing is wrong, and all your gods are dead. How are people going to take that?
Hunter X-5: Jet Skis. Sea-Doos. Is one of these calling your name, Mobius?
Mobius: Well, I don’t know about calling. Maybe gently whispering. “Mobius! Come take us for a little spin.” You know, the funny thing about Jet Skis, everyone thinks that it’s a personal watercraft, and it’s actually a brand, same way Kleenex is.
Hunter X-5: Mobius. Mobius, I don’t care.

General Dox: And under whose authority did you make the call to stop pruning branches?
Hunter B-15: We didn’t have time for proper protocol. Don’t you understand? We’re all Variants!
Hunter B-15: Renslayer had a life on the timeline.
Hunter X-5: On the record, 15.
Hunter B-15: To hell with the record. You had a life on the timeline. And so did you. So did I.
Mobius: Look, we get the concerns, because we had them also. But let’s also admit that the timeline is branching. The sky hasn’t fallen, we’re…
Hunter X-5: What sky are you looking at? Are you seeing this robot head on the table? Oh, the sky is falling, Mobius. This changes everything!
General Dox: This changes nothing.

Hunter B-15: [to Dox] Protect? Is that what you think we’ve been doing? With all due respect, ma’am, we haven’t been protecting. We’ve been destroying. There are people with lives on those branches, and we have committed atrocities every time we prune.
Loki: [referring to He Who Remains] That’s who built this place! That’s who stole your lives! That’s who’s coming back!
General Dox: The Time-Keepers are fake, but their warnings were real. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
Hunter X-5: What do you want me to do?
General Dox: We need to know what happened at the End of Time. Find Sylvie. She’s the reason we’re in this mess.
Loki: Mobius, we got to the man at the End of Time, and he made sense. We thought it was about freeing the timeline, but that brings only more malevolence, more violence, more war. More of him. They’re coming. They’re all coming.
Mobius: Who? I don’t understand.
Loki: “You came to kill the devil.” Maybe he was. But maybe he wasn’t. She was convinced he was.
Loki: We fought, Mobius, and she kicked me through a Time Door.
Mobius: Well, I’d ask who won, but…
Loki: It was a draw.
Mobius: You both kicked each other through Time Doors simultaneously?
Loki: I just wish I had tried harder. I wish I’d had more time.
Mobius: Don’t do the coulda, woulda, shoulda. Just focus on what we know.
Loki: That. That is what we know. War. And it’s on its way.
Loki: Maybe it’s true, everything he was doing, the pruning, the preservation of the Sacred Timeline. It was about preventing more of him. There was no simple choice. There was no other way.
Mobius: Did you come straight from the End of Time?
Loki: No. I was in the past.
Mobius: What do you mean, in the past? Where in the past?
Loki: Here. Here. The past TVA.
Mobius: No, there is no past TVA. Time doesn’t work like that here.
Loki: But it does now, because it’s happening to me.
Mobius: It’s impossible.
Loki: It’s possible, Mobius.
Mobius: No. It’s not.
[Loki time slips]
Loki: We should be dealing with the bigger problem here. He Who Remains.
Mobius: I understand, and we’ll get to that. In order to do that, I need a Loki Who Remains. We need to address the fact that you keep disappearing.
Loki: What? I don’t keep disappearing. We don’t have time.
[he disappears]
Mobius: You just disappeared.
Loki: I know.
Mobius: I can’t keep looking at it, because it’s horrible.
Loki: What? I thought you said it didn’t look that bad.
Mobius: I was lying. It’s terrible. It looks like you’re being born, or dying, or both at the same time. It’s freaking me out. It looks really painful.
Loki: It’s okay. It’s not that bad. I can handle it.
Mobius: [to the shocked woman in the elevator] Come on. How does it look?
Loki: He Who Remains.
Mobius: Is that what you’re calling him, or that’s his name?
Loki: That’s how he’s introduced.
Mobius: Pretty arrogant. It’s like calling yourself Last Man Standing.
Loki: Is it arrogant if you can back it up?
Mobius: Well, can he back it up?
Loki: Yeah.
Mobius: That’s scary.
Loki: Imagine a million of them.
Mobius: I’d rather not.
OB: How long has it been?
Mobius: How long has it been? Could it be three or four…
OB: Four hundred years.
Loki: What?
Mobius: Feels like a thousand, right?
OB: Yeah.
OB: [referring to Mobius] Believe it or not, he was my last visitor.
Loki: Wow. Reunited. Four hundred years.
Mobius: [as Loki time slips] That! That’s what’s been happening.
OB: Wow! Time slipping.
Mobius: What, you know that?
OB: Yeah.
Mobius: You’ve seen that?
OB: Yeah.
Mobius: Can you fix that?
OB: No. It’s impossible to time slip in the TVA.
Mobius: I know, but we just saw it happen.
OB: Yeah. I’m having trouble reconciling that.
OB: [after Loki time slips] Do I know you?
Loki: Yes. In the future. Well, it’s your future. My present. It’s complicated.
OB: That guy that was here? What was his name?
Mobius: Loki?
Loki: Yeah. A long time ago, he came to me complaining about time slipping. How did I not remember that?
Mobius: Wait. Is he talking to you in the past, and you’re just remembering it?
OB: Wow. That makes perfect sense. There’s no flaw in that logic.
Loki: That’s not impossible because I was just with you in the future.
OB: I think I would remember that.
Loki: Yes, but it hasn’t happened to you yet. Do you see?
OB: Good point. It sure would be more convenient if we were having this conversation in the future, and this were the past.
Loki: We were. This is the… Never mind.
OB: It could be dangerous.
Mobius: How dangerous?
OB: Oh, not too bad if you’re quick about it.
Mobius: Got to be quick about it.
OB: But if you spend too long in it, that kind of temporal energy will peel the skin right off you.
Mobius: Wait. I thought you said “not too bad”, and now you’re talking about me getting my skin peeled off of me.
OB: Oh, not too bad compared to what Loki has to do.
Mobius: Why, what’s Loki got to do?
Loki: [at the same time in the past] Violently rip myself from every thread of time and space? All at once?
OB: So the hope is that after you prune yourself, the Extractor will pull you into the present.
Loki: Of course. Yeah. And then if it doesn’t do that?
OB: Well, have you heard about how if you fall into a black hole you turn into spaghetti?
Loki: No.
OB: Good. The less you know about that, the better.
Mobius: Wait. Hold it. Am I ready to get my skin peeled off? I don’t know.
Loki: Yeah. Am I ready to violently rip myself from every thread of time and space?
Mobius: Actually, I’d rather have that.
Loki: What, you’d rather be atomically disassembled and then never reassembled again?
Mobius: Yeah. Than have your skin ripped off? Yes, I would.
Loki: At least you get to live.
Mobius: Live? What’s the quality of life with no skin?
Loki: There has to be another way.
OB: [to Loki] Green means prune. If you’re too late, you will be lost to time forever, and Mobius will lose all of his skin. Okay, you’ve got about an hour.
OB: [as something crashes into the window] You’ve got about five minutes.
Mobius: [referring to his suit] How the hell am I going to hoof it in this?
OB: You got to.
Mobius: Or what?
OB: Or the blast doors will close and lock you out. And then, your suit will age away, you will age away, and you’ll get very old, and all your skin will get peeled away, and you will die.
Mobius: [referring to his helmet] Is this cracked?
OB: [as he places duckt tape on the crack] You’re good.
Mobius: OB! Get ready to see some hoofing like you’ve never seen before.
OB: [to Mobius, referring to Loki] There is nothing you can do for him. He’s lost to time. He’s not going to make it.
McDonalds Employee: [mid-credits lines, as Sylvie ends up in 1982 Oklahoma] What would you like?
Sylvie: Not squirrel, not possum, not rats. Something that’s already dead, and nothing with a face. Please.
McDonalds Employee: You can try our new Chicken McNuggets, and we have a Big Mac, Filet-O-Fish, and a hamburger, cheeseburger. I quite like the Quarter Pounder, which you can try with or without cheese.
Sylvie: I want to try everything.
McDonalds Employee: Okay.
2. Breaking Brad
Mobius: A little over the top, don’t you think, all the shadow play?
Loki: I thought it was spot on.
Hunter B-15: Why are you whispering?
Casey: It’s a secret mission, right?
Hunter B-15: Renslayer killed C-20, attempted to kill Mobius, threw me in Time Jail, and tried to take over the TVA. Why would tracking her TemPad be a secret?
'Sometimes our emotions get the better of us. - Loki Share on X
Loki: Let’s take a run at Brad Wolfe.
Mobius: Let’s take a big run at him.
Loki: Thank you.
Mobius: Okay. Keep it simple. Where’s Dox? Where’s Sylvie? And what did he do to that TemPad? That’s all we need to find out. Okay? But of course, Brad knows us, and he knows our tactics. But that’s what makes for an interesting chess match. Okay. Most of all, Brad’s an a**hole. So, don’t let him get under your skin, alright? Okay? Loki?
Loki: What?
'There's a lot to unpack when you're basically in a relationship with yourself. They say opposites attract. No.' - Mobius (Loki) Share on X
Hunter X-5: [to Loki] Everyone here knows what you’re doing, you know? You’re just trying to make up for all the terrible, awful s**t you’ve done in your life, you pathetic little man.
Mobius: Okay. That’s enough.
Loki: No. No, Mobius. No, it’s riveting. Keep going. I want to hear more.
Hunter X-5: Good. See, everything you and Sylvie have ever done to try to help, has only ever made it worse.
Hunter X-5: [to Loki] It’s you. You’re the problem. Every time we’ve ever found a you. Problem is, you think you’re special, but you’re not. So, it doesn’t matter what outfit you put on, play dress up, or what little lies you tell your friends, or even the lies you tell yourself. At the end of the day, you just make everything worse. For Mobius, for B-15, for your mother. Because that’s what you do. You lose. You’re a loser. Stop trying to be a hero, man. You’re a villain. And you’re good at it. Do that.
Loki: You know, you’re right. I have done some terrible, awful things. Yeah, maybe that is who I am, and he knows. It’s the real me. A loser. Always have been. Always will be. And perhaps I’ve been holding something back. Perhaps I’ve just been biding my time. Perhaps I’ve just been waiting for a moment like this, so I can do terrible, awful things to you. So, let’s try this one more time. Where is Sylvie?
Hunter X-5: You’re way too obsessed with her. He needs therapy. I can recommend someone if you want to work that out.
Hunter X-5: Mobius, you could be an actor.
Mobius: I’m not an actor, I’m an analyst. But thank you.
Hunter X-5: You need to wake up, Mobius. And until you do, you’re nothing. She is nothing. I don’t even know where to start with that, but you’re nothing here. And until you wake up, you’re just a nowhere man. You’re a nowhere man!
Loki: [referring to Mobisu hitting X-5] What happened back there?
Mobius: Nothing.
Loki: Didn’t seem like nothing.
Mobius: It was tactical.
Loki: Seems like he got under your skin.
Mobius: Nope. He didn’t get under my skin. He got under your skin.
Mobius: Where are we?
Loki: I was following you.
Mobius: No, I was following you.
Loki: Mobius. You were clearly ahead of me. How about a slice of pie?
Mobius: Key lime.
Mobius: That wasn’t tactical. I lost it.
Loki: It’s okay. Look, it happens. You know, sometimes a rage builds up, and you just got to let it out.
Loki: Do you remember that time I was so angry with my father and my brother, I went down to Earth, and I held the whole of New York City hostage with an alien army? Tried to use the Mind Stone on Tony Stark. It didn’t work, so I threw him off the building. I mean, let me tell you something. Wasn’t tactical. I lost it. Sometimes our emotions get the better of us.
Mobius: You can say that again.
Loki: Don’t you want to see the life you were supposed to live before they kidnapped you and brought you into the TVA?
Mobius: Not really.
Loki: Why?
Mobius: Because it’s not my life.
Loki: But it could have been.
Mobius: It isn’t. This is. I’d like to thank the guy who kidnapped me and brought me here. Got me this pie.
Loki: If you never look, you’ll never know.
Mobius: [referring to his life outside of TVA] Something bad, I can handle. What if it’s something good? Do you think I want to have that rattling around in here? Of course not.
Loki: [referring to X-5] He’s the only one who knows where Sylvie is. Just got to make him talk.
Mobius: Well, come on. You’re the God of Mischief. Right?
Mobius: Well, let’s simplify everything. You have information that we need. You don’t want to give it to us. So, how do we find common ground?
Hunter X-5: You are getting desperate.
Loki: You’re not wrong. He’s not wrong.
Mobius: We’re definitely getting desperate.
Loki: I’m not trying to be a hero, Brad. I’m a villain. Remember?
Mobius: No. Loki. This isn’t the kind of mischief I was talking about! Hey! Loki, you’re not a villain.
Loki: I don’t if you know this, but I’ve done some terrible, awful things.
Hunter X-5: Yeah, you have. You’re doing one right now. Have some perspective on yourself.
Mobius: See? Little bit of mischief.
Loki: Only as good as your plan.
Mobius: Thank you. Let’s go, Zaniac.
Hunter X-5: Are you telling me that was…
Mobius: Hell of a performance.
OB: [to Casey] Oh. Hey, nice to meet you. We’re all going to die!
Hunter X-5: [as Loki and Sylvie see each other] This feels tense. What do you say we leave them to it. We head on back to the TVA.
Mobius: What are you talking about? No. I’m not going anywhere until I get some apple pie.
Loki: I’ve been pulled through time, between the past, and the present. Well, I was in the past.
Sylvie: Oh, just get to the point, Loki.
Loki: Sylvie, I was in the future and I saw you.
Sylvie: So you see the future now? Cool.
Loki: It’s not something I chose.
Mobius: [to Brad, as he’s eating apple pie] I thought you were setting us up for an ambush. Hell, you were just setting us up for a great meal. Thank you.
Hunter X-5: What is happening right now? It’s like they’re going over every detail of their relationship that’s ever happened. Why?
Mobius: Look. It’s a complicated relationship, okay? There’s a lot to unpack when you’re basically in a relationship with yourself. They say opposites attract. No.
Mobius: Can we just talk for a second, about how crazy life is? I mean, ten minutes ago, you were screaming at me, “You’re nothing!” And then I kind of freaked out and basically tortured you. And now here we are, enjoying a meal like gentlemen.
Hunter X-5: You slapped me in the face. I’m not going to forget that.
Mobius: But I got you a shake. Okay?
Hunter X-5: You don’t care about my movie.
Mobius: Brad, I saw the poster. It looked scary.
Hunter X-5: It’s not scary. It’s elevated thriller, alright? It’s cinema. Thank you very much. You can’t see it. Alright? You got to get your own tickets. I’m not hooking you up. Not after this.
Mobius: I will. I will.
Mobius: [to Loki and Sylvie] Sorry to interrupt. I think Brad’s got something that he might want to get off his chest.
Hunter X-5: Zaniac’s getting a sequel. And you’re both invited.
Sylvie: [as the branches are pruned] Is this the best you lot can do?
Loki: There was nothing we could do.
Sylvie: Some defense. The TVA is the problem. It’s broken. It’s rotten. I’m going home, if it’s still there.
Loki: [as Sylvie leaves] Please, don’t. It’s harder to stay.
3. 1893
Ravonna Renslayer: What am I doing here?
Miss Minutes: Oh, don’t get your britches in a stir.
Miss Minutes: [to Renslayer] When he’s back where he belongs, atop the TVA, you and I will be right by his side.
'Time is everything. It moves through each and every one of us. It shapes our lives. Our futures.' - Victor Timely (Loki) Share on X
OB: We need to scale the Loom’s capacity to manage all those new branches, otherwise it will fail. And the TVA will be destroyed. And we’re all going to die.
Loki: There has to be another way.
Mobius: We can hack into the system.
OB: Really? Oh, that is such a relief.
Mobius: No, no, no. I’m wondering.
OB: What?
Loki: I think he meant it as an idea.
Mobius: Can we?
OB: No. We’re all going to die still.
Mobius: How are we going to find a little rogue cartoon clock that doesn’t want to be found?
'If it can be dreamed, it can be achieved. Because all science is fiction until it's fact.' - Victor Timely (Loki) Share on X
Loki: We find Renslayer, we find Miss Minutes.
Mobius: That’s going to be an awkward reunion. Face-to-face with the woman who tried to kill us both.
Loki: Well, maybe she got it out of her system. Let’s focus on that cartoon clock.
Mobius: I mean, if they’re here, we’ll find them.
Loki: If they’re here.
Mobius: Only one way to find out.
Loki: How do you propose we do that?
Mobius: Well, you start by looking. A little good old-fashioned legwork. Clues, bread crumbs, that sort of thing.
Loki: Can we get a move on? This isn’t a sightseeing expedition.
Mobius: I’m not sightseeing. Listen, we have different styles. You’re a man of action, which is fine. I take a more slow, deliberate, cerebral approach, because I see everything. I notice everything.
Loki: You haven’t seen you got some Cracker Jack on your chin. How about that?
Mobius: So damn sticky.
Loki: [referring to the dioramas of Odin, Thor, and Balder] This has to be a joke.
Mobius: Does it make you homesick?
Loki: No. It’s completely inaccurate, first of all.
Mobius: What, you don’t think that looks like Odin?
Loki: It’s embarrassing. It’s a crass generalization. I mean, you can’t reduce an entire culture down to a simple diorama. Such poverty of imagination.
Mobius: Is somebody feeling a little left out that they’re not up there?
Loki: And why did they include Balder? No one’s even heard of him.
Mobius: Sure they have. Balder the Brave. You know, sometimes I forget that you’re one of them. You are one of them. Blows my mind.
Loki: Thor’s not that tall.
Victor Timely: Time is everything. It moves through each and every one of us. It shapes our lives. Our futures. But perhaps we can shape it.
Loki: It’s him.
Mobius: Who?
Loki: He Who Remains.
Mobius: You made him sound like this terrifying figure.
Loki: He is.
Mobius: We need to bring him back to the TVA.
Loki: Are you out of your mind? You can’t trust a Variant of He Who Remains in the TVA.
Mobius: That’s a later problem. We have a very serious now problem.
Ravonna Renslayer: That is the man who’s destined to become He Who Remains? You sure your plan is going to work?
Miss Minutes: I told you, it’s not my plan. It’s his plan. And quit your worrying.
With our help, he’ll be all he’s meant to become.
Loki: [to Victor] You’re clearly really good at getting away. We have that in common.
Ravonna Renslayer: We don’t work together anymore, Mobius. I don’t have to tell you anything.
Mobius: Yeah, and look where not working together has got you. You’re a fugitive.
Ravonna Renslayer: Mobius, you’re the one who sided with a Loki over me. Don’t play the teamwork card on me now.
Mobius: Can I play the “you-tried-to-kill-me” card? Does that get me anywhere?
Sylvie: Stopping that place from being destroyed and fixing it are two very, very different things. And working with one of his Variants is not going to get you either.
Loki: Well, your machete hasn’t solved any problems thus far.
Sylvie: If you and the TVA hadn’t messed with him, he’d have remained harmless. But instead, you weaponized him.
Loki: What are you talking about?
Sylvie: Renslayer set him on a path that he wasn’t meant for. And now you are waltzing him straight back into the TVA. The thief of all free will. The most dangerous man who ever lived.
Victor Timely: Are you saying, I created the TVA?
Ravonna Renslayer: Something like that.
Miss Minutes: I know this must be overwhelming. If it’s too much for you…
Victor Timely: No. It’s like the story of myself that I always imagined is true.
Ravonna Renslayer: Did you hear the murder part? That is why you need me by your side. I’ll keep you safe.
Miss Minutes: The war, the TVA, the eons after. I, alone, was by your side. But there was one whim you never allowed me. Why didn’t you allow me a real body?
Victor Timely: Well, that wasn’t me.
Miss Minutes: If I had a body, we could truly lead together.
Victor Timely: Yes, that’s something I don’t know how to do.
Miss Minutes: You never even tried. With all your powers, and all your abilities, you just kept me as your thing. Your computer. Your toy. Instead of what I could have been. Your girl.
Ravonna Renslayer: Lovers tiff?
Victor Timely: Thank God you’re here. Things were getting quite strange.
Mobius: Is this the free will that you were looking for? Look at me. You have lost your way.
Ravonna Renslayer: Mobius, you really are unbelievable. How dare you lecture me?
Mobius: I’m not lecturing, I’m pleading.
Ravonna Renslayer: After all those years of doing your dirty work, cleaning up your messes, making the hard decisions you never had the nerve to make. After all the times I put the TVA above myself, even at the cost of my own happiness, my humanity. Who are you to lecture me about losing my way?
Mobius: We’ve all lost our way, but someone has to keep track of the big picture here.
Ravonna Renslayer: You have no idea what it takes to lead, to act, to keep order. Did you happen to notice the second I left, everything crumbled? I am the only one who can bring stability to the TVA because that’s what I’ve been doing, thanklessly, for eons. When will you learn that none of your words mean a thing? All that matters is order versus chaos. I’m order.
Victor Timely: Please. I haven’t done anything.
Sylvie: Oh, you will. You’ll do terrible things.
Victor Timely: That isn’t me. You don’t know me. You don’t know the heart I have beating in my chest. I can make my own choices. I’m not the man you think I am.
Ravonna Renslayer: I suppose I’ve been a box you’ve been wanting to tick for a long time. If you’re going to kill me, just do it.
Sylvie: Oh, no. I’ve killed you a thousand times in my mind, each time more brutal than the last. It’s crippling, that kind of obsession. I’m starting to realize that. It’s power for you, isn’t it? That’s what you want. A seat at the End of Time. Well, be careful what you wish for.
[she kicks Renslayer through to the crumbling citadel where He Who Remains corpse sits in his throne]
Ravonna Renslayer: [referring to Victor] I had him under control until you sabotaged me and made fools of us.
Miss Minutes: Well, it was foolish of him to make an enemy out of someone who knows all his secrets. I know a really big one about you. I can tell you, but…
Ravonna Renslayer: But what?
Miss Minutes: It’s going to make you real angry.
4. Heart of the TVA
Ravonna Renslayer: [after she finds out He Who Remains erased her memories] I helped win?
Miss Minutes: You didn’t just help. It was you who commanded the army.
Ravonna Renslayer: So he built this little tower. And while he sat on his throne, I continued to do all the work to keep him there?
Miss Minutes: Well, something like that.
Ravonna Renslayer: So, what are you proposing?
Miss Minutes: That we don’t need him. Maybe we never did.

Mobius: Listen, Professor, I can only imagine what Renslayer and Miss Minutes have been saying about us, but it’s not true. Unless they said something good.
Mobius: Here’s the deal. You have to trust us, and we don’t have time.
Victor Timely: I’m from Chicago, friend. The schadeocracy capital of the world. I don’t trust anyone.
'Annihilating is easy. Razing things to the ground is easy. Trying to fix what's broken is hard. Hope is hard.' - Loki Share on X
Victor Timely: Oh, it’s a party. Hello. The more the merrier. And you all want me. Ms. Ravonna wants me. The effervescent clock-lady monster thing wants me. I should have some say.
Mobius: I don’t disagree.
Victor Timely: So, I built all of this? Or I did?
Loki: Well…
Victor Timely: Or I will, and I did?
Loki: Almost. You, but not you.
Loki: [to OB and Victor] So, if your work is based on his work, and his work is based on your work…
Mobius: Exactly. Which came first?
OB: It’s like a snake eating its own tail.
Sylvie: [to OB and Victor] Guys, sorry to break up this bromance, but can we fix now and sign later
Mobius: Loki’s really going to have to hoof it then, right?
Loki: Hang on a second. Why is it suddenly me having to hoof it?
Mobius: Well, because it’s your turn.
Loki: Says who? Why? Why is it suddenly, why is it me?
Mobius: [referring to the suit] Well, because clearly this isn’t me.
Loki: Just because it isn’t you, it doesn’t necesserily me either.
Mobius: It’s got your shape to it.
Loki: What do you mean it’s got my shape? It’s a suit. It could be anybody.
Sylvie: It’s wearing a helmet. It doesn’t look like anyone.
Loki: I just don’t think it’s me.
OB: It doesn’t matter who it is. It’s doable.
Mobius: Alright, let’s have a little pie while we wait.
Sylvie: Pie?
Mobius: Yeah.
Sylvie: What is the matter with you? You dragged me back here begging for help, so you must have some idea of what’s happening. Everything is turning to s**t, and you want to leave it to them while we go and have some pie? Great idea, Mobius.
Sylvie: Come on. Let’s go and get some pie. Why not? It’s a great idea. Does it matter that the branches are dying? Clocks don’t tick at the TVA, do they? You found out you’re a Variant, and you haven’t even looked, have you? It’s just another bad day at the office for you. Timelines are just lines on a monitor. Doesn’t matter if a few disappear. Because you’ve never bothered to look if one of them was yours. Who cares if a few just disappear? Enjoy your pie.
Hunter X-5: We don’t have any weapons. We don’t really have the numbers, obviously. But I think if we put our heads together, and if we just try to figure this out, we can get out of this room, and we can get back to our lives. Huh? I believe it was Galileo, or Winston Churchill, or…
General Dox: Oh, will you just cut the s**t?
General Dox: We all know about your escapades as an actor, Brad.
Hunter X-5: Okay. Okay. I earned my life. I think we all earned our lives. Huh? Don’t you think you earned your life?
General Dox: No!
Sylvie: I took a wrong turn. I didn’t plan on coming to pie land.
Loki: About Mobius. He’s just trying to see in the dark like the rest of us. And so we’re clear, I asked for your help, and you walked away.
Sylvie: Just so we’re clear, no, I didn’t. I’m here, aren’t I? Again!
Loki: You’re only here because you couldn’t kill him.
Sylvie: Yeah, I couldn’t kill him. Couldn’t do it. Timely just looked so scared. He Who Remains wasn’t scared. Maybe he was, and I just didn’t notice.
Loki: Some years ago, my brother was banished from Asgard and sent to Earth. And when he came back, he was different. Changed somehow. I thought it was weakness. I mocked him. Said he’d gone soft.
Sylvie: Soft gets you killed.
Loki: Listen, Sylvie, you spared Timely’s life, and because of that, the TVA and those timelines will survive. Those people will survive. You spared their lives too.
Sylvie: What if you’re wrong? What if you are wrong to believe that this place can be any better? What if I was wrong to spare him? It would just be easier to burn this place down and start from scratch.
Loki: Sure. Burn it down. Easy. Annihilating is easy. Razing things to the ground is easy. Trying to fix what’s broken is hard. Hope is hard.
Sylvie: So, you’re going to bring him behind the curtain, show him all of this, and then just send him home?
Loki: Maybe that’s a good thing. We can watch him, protect him.
Sylvie: Interfere for good. Heard that one before.
Loki: You can’t give people free will, and then just walk away, Sylvie. That’s not how it works.
Sylvie: Sounds like whatever we do, we’re playing God.
Loki: We are gods.
General Dox: The only thing you want to protect is yourself, Ravonna. And you. This is really disappointing, I must say.
Miss Minutes: I know. I’m working on myself.
Victor Timely: What is that?
Mobius: This? A little Mobius pick-me-up, courtesy of the hot cocoa machine.
OB: So strange. All your files are being corrupted in real time. Did you download unauthorized games again?
Mobius: No. I’m not going to make that mistake twice.
Mobius: Okay, that sounds like a noise you want to hear from farther away.
Loki: [to Sylvie, after he prunes himself] I promise you this will make sense.
Ravonna Renslayer: They’re up to something. What’s happening to you?
Miss Minutes: They’re taking me offline. I’m losing my cognitive facilities. I only have moments left. Victor, I need to tell you, you’ll never be him.
Loki: I’ll do it. I’ll put the suit on.
Mobius: Okay, let’s go then.
Hunter B-15: Come on, let’s move.
Victor Timely: Wait. It should be me.
Loki: No, you don’t have to do this.
Victor Timely: But I do.
Victor Timely: Time to be brave.
Mobius: [referring to Victor] What happened? Where is he?
Sylvie: He’s gone.
Mobius: What happened?
Sylvie: It’s over.
Hunter B-15: Is he dead?
[then Loki and the others all watch as the Loom destabilizes and implodes]
5. Science/Fiction
Casey: [living his life as Frank in San Francisco, 1962] How did you get here?
Loki: How did I get where?
Casey: Alcatraz.
Loki: What? I don’t know how I got here. That’s the problem.
Mobius: [living his life as Don in Ohio, 2022] So talk to me. What are you thinking?
Dirt Bike Enthusiast: Sorry. I was more interested in a dirt bike.
Mobius: Well, they say the personal watercraft is kind of the thinking man’s dirt bike. Come on, you ready for your Poseidon moment? Jump up on this bad boy.
'With science, it's all what and how. But with fiction, it's why.' - OB (Loki) Share on X
Loki: The TVA is gone.
Mobius: I think you mean ATV. And, no, you’re in luck. We got in two of them last week. They’re upstairs.
Loki: You don’t remember me either?
Mobius: No. No, I do. You were in just the other day, right?
Book Store Worker: [OB is living his life as Doug in Ohio, 1994] Are you buying your own book? Book Store Manager: You. I told you to stop putting your sci-fi books on our shelves.
OB: Science fiction is a well-respected and thought-provoking genre.
Book Store Manager: Well, nobody buys it here.
'We're all writing our own stories now. Go write yours.' - Sylvie (Loki) Share on X
Loki: What I’m about to tell you is going to be hard to believe.
OB: Of course I believe you. It’s a dream come true. One of my characters has come to life and needs my help. This reminds me of what happens in The Sons of Yoren.
Loki: What’s that?
OB: Just, you know, my most popular book of all time. I’m sure I can find you a copy somewhere around here.
Loki: Wait. You’re a writer?
OB: Yes. Science fiction.
Loki: I’m doomed.
Loki: I need to go back to before the Temporal Loom melted down.
OB: You can’t. It’s impossible. But don’t let that stop you.
Loki: I don’t understand what you’ve just said.
OB: Well, you time-traveled in a place that has no time, right?
Loki: Right.
OB: That’s not possible.
Loki: I know.
OB: So you’re traveling to a place that doesn’t exist anymore. It’s equally impossible, and therefore it’s something you might be able to do.
Loki: Sure. Excellent. Yeah. Makes total sense. Doesn’t sound like science.
OB: No. But it does sound like fiction.
Loki: How does science help us get to a place that doesn’t exist?
OB: Well, maybe it does exist.
Loki: It doesn’t. I saw it disappear with my own eyes.
OB: But then you said you also time-traveled in a place at the TVA, right?
Loki: The Time Theater, yes.
OB: If that’s the case, then maybe the place and time you’re looking for still exists, but you just don’t know where to look for it.
OB: We get the band back together.
Loki: That doesn’t seem very scientific.
Loki: What? How did you build a TemPad so fast?
OB: I don’t know if I’d say eighteen months is fast. Well, nineteen months. I had to take a break and move out when I lost my job and my wife left me.
Loki: Reality isn’t what you think it is. And this isn’t the life of the man I know.
Mobius: I don’t know who you know. I don’t understand.
Loki: I know you.
Mobius: No, you don’t.
Loki: From a place called the Time Variance Authority. You saved my life when I first arrived. You saw something in me that I hadn’t seen in myself.
Mobius: Are you really my friend?
Loki: I am.
Loki: I need your help to save this place, the TVA. You once told me it was the only life you’d ever known.
Mobius: I sell jet skis, man.
Loki: Trust me.
Loki: This is going to sound strange. I know you don’t know who I am.
Sylvie: Loki. Of course I know who you are.
Loki: What? You do?
Sylvie: Why wouldn’t I?
Loki: Because nobody else did. Their lives were reset after the Loom…
Sylvie: Yeah. I know. I was there.
Loki: I’m sorry. I’m sorry. This isn’t how I thought the scene was going to play out.
Loki: They don’t remember who they are. Their lives matter. They matter.
Sylvie: Yeah, and they’re finally back in their real lives. That’s a good thing.
Loki: Mobius always said the TVA was the only life he’d ever known, and he liked it. It gave him purpose.
Sylvie: It was never his choice to begin with, Loki. He Who Remains did that.
Loki: But Mobius should have a choice now, no? Shouldn’t they all? To return to the TVA if they want.
Sylvie: No. You would be ripping people from their lives, showing them something that they cannot unsee. What kind of choice is that?
Loki: I guess this all worked out just the way you wanted it to, and you’re fine just walking away. It’s so selfish.
Sylvie: Of course I’m selfish. I want a life. I want to live. What’s wrong with wanting something, Loki?
Sylvie: What do you want?
Loki: I want to stop He Who Remains.
Sylvie: No. Wrong. Try again. What is it that you really want? Come on.
Loki: I want to save this. I want to save everything. All of it.
Sylvie: Is it really that hard? Come on, keep trying.
Loki: I want my friends back. I don’t want to be alone.
Sylvie: See? We’re both selfish.
Sylvie: I know this is hard. But your friends are back where they belong.
Loki: But without them, where do I belong?
Sylvie: We’re all writing our own stories now. Go write yours.
Mobius: You showed up and told each of us that we’re the key to saving all of existence. And now, what? We’re not?
Loki: I’m sorry. I got it wrong. Alright? It was more about what I wanted. You should go back to your sons.
Mobius: I know, but that’s just it. You said they were in danger. So, now they’re okay?
Loki: You should all just go back to your lives. That’s where you belong.
OB: What about the TVA?
Loki: The TVA. You’re fine without it. You’re all just fine without it.
Sylvie: No, they aren’t. Everything’s falling apart. The branches are dying.
Mobius: So what does that mean?
Sylvie: I don’t know. I don’t know what’s happening, but there must be something we can do.
Loki: We can go back. We can stop the Loom from melting down.
OB: [as they all starts to disintegrate] It was a fiction problem.
Loki: I did it.
Sylvie: Did what?
Loki: I controlled it.
OB: You learned to control your time slipping.
Loki: Yes. It’s not about where, when, or why. It’s about who. I can rewrite the story.
6. Glorious Purpose
'I know what I want. I know what kind of god I need to be for you. For all of us.' - Loki Share on X
Loki: What could we have done differently?
OB: We took too long.
Loki: Again. Faster.
Loki: Time is of the essence.
'I wasted time and now the time wastes me.' - Loki Share on X
Loki: Now listen up. We have to get Timely suited up and to the Loom.
Victor Timely: Wait. Why me?
Loki: Because you volunteered. You did. You will.
Loki: OB, how long will it take me to know everything that you know about mechanics, physics, and engineering?
OB: How much do you know?
Loki: Let’s assume I don’t know much. But I’m a fast learner, and I’m a god.
'We die with the dying. We're born with the dead.' - Loki Share on X
Loki: If I had to know, I mean, I really, really, really had to know, how long would it take?
OB: Decades.
Victor Timely: Centuries.
OB: Guys, it’s worse than I thought. We have to move fast. Who’s it going to be?
Loki: [to Victor] It’s him. It’s you. You volunteer.
'Most purpose is more burden than glory. And trust me, you never want to be the guy who avoids it, because you can't live with the burden.' - Mobius (Loki) Share on X
Loki: Here’s the plan. Get in. Get suited up. When those doors open, get down the gangway as fast as you can. Load the Multiplier, hit the green button, launch it, and get back.
Victor Timely: Got it.
Loki: By the way, remember, tape your right thumb, left knee, and faceplate, or the Temporal Radiation will peel your skin off.
Mobius: What the s**t are you doing?
Loki: Trust me.
Mobius: No.
Loki: I know what I’m doing.
'Sometimes it's okay to destroy something. If there's a hope that you can replace that thing with something better.' - Sylvie, Loki Share on X
Victor Timely: Hang on. This all seems a bit rushed.
Loki: Only to you. Trust me. If you stop, you die.
Victor Timely: The Loom will never be able to accommodate for an infinitely growing multiverse. You can’t scale for infinite. It’s like trying to divide by zero. It can’t be done.
Loki: So, no matter how much we increase the throughput, it will never be enough.
Victor Timely: Be enough. Never enough.
Loki: And the Loom will always fail. And the new timelines will always…
Sylvie: It’s almost as if as soon as the timelines started branching, this was doomed to happen.
Loki: Stop. I’ve been where you are. I’ve felt what you feel. You don’t want this.
Sylvie: What’s happening?
Loki: You’re right. What were you thinking trusting me? I can’t be trusted. You have to believe me. You cannot kill him. You must not follow through. It all ends if you do. I know this sounds strange. I’ve seen it. I know it.
Sylvie: Get out of my way.
Loki: I won’t.
Sylvie: You’ve been seduced by a throne.
Loki: The last thing I want is a throne. Sylvie, stop!
Sylvie: If you want me to stop, you’ll have to kill me.
Sylvie: If you want to stop me…
Loki: I have to kill you, I get it.
Loki: [to He Who Remains] Why do you never try to stop her? Fight back? Do something.
He Who Remains: So, how many times have you been at this?
Loki: What did you do?
He Who Remains: Oh, come on. You’re not telling me you haven’t learned how to pause time yet. I figured you’d be way past that.
He Who Remains: I know about the slipping. And who do you think paved that road? Any guesses? Survey says…
Loki: He Who Remains.
He Who Remains: Bingo!
Loki: Here you were, slipping through time. Thinking you were, you were sticking it to the system. Going to beat the man. And then Whoop! Here he is. Oh, kiddo, did you really think I was just going to sit back and let her kill me? And that’d be it? Zip? Nada? RIP HWR? No, I told you. Reincarnation, baby.
Loki: “We die with the dying. We’re born with the dead.”
He Who Remains: So, this is a lot for you. I get it. So why don’t you just go through this a couple thousand more times? Get your bearings. And then you just let me know. Okay? When you’re ready to have a conversation. Okay?
Loki: And what makes you think this is the first time we’ve had this conversation?
He Who Remains: [to Loki] You’re my favorite. When there was two of you here, you were my favorite.
He Who Remains: The Temporal Loom is a failsafe. When the Loom is overloaded with branches, it deletes the ones that aren’t supposed to be there. Everything except the Sacred Timeline. And the TVA, well, that’s just collateral damage. Look, no biggie. Easy to rebuild.
Loki: What a waste of time.
He Who Remains: The outcome to this equation remains the same. You lose.
Loki: I know. I know.
Loki: I’ll change the equation. I’ll break your Loom.
He Who Remains: But the Loom prevents a brutal war where nothing survives, Loki. Not even the Sacred Timeline.
He Who Remains: Okay, let’s try it this way. Every moment of peace you’ve ever experienced was yours because I was here. Alone. At the end of time, keeping watch.
Loki: I understand.
He Who Remains: But you want to break the Loom. What do you think would happen to your friends?
He Who Remains: I made the tough choices. That’s why I get the big chair. I keep us safe. Can’t you see what I’m offering here is mercy?
Loki: For me, or for you? No. I’ll find another way.
He Who Remains: Okay. And around, and around, and around we go. Let’s see it. Make the hard choice. Break the Loom and you cause a war that kills us all. Game over. Or, kill her, and we protect what we can.
Mobius: You want to be king?
Loki: I don’t want to be, I was born to be.
Mobius: I know, but king of what, exactly? Okay, so let’s get into it. The man who would be king.
Loki: How do you choose who lives and who dies?
Mobius: Prune. We prune around here, and we don’t choose. The Time-Keepers, they have that responsibility.
Loki: I know the dogma, but really, you’re the one doing it.
Mobius: Because it was the proper flow of time.
Loki: What comfort is that?
Mobius: Comfort? Well, there’s no comfort. You’re not going to find comfort at the TVA.
Mobius: Most purpose is more burden than glory. And trust me, you never want to be the guy who avoids it, because you can’t live with the burden.
Loki: How do you live with it?
Mobius: Scar tissue.
Mobius: [referring to Renslayer] She knew the hard thing to do was the thing that had to be done. And by hard, I mean impossible. No, there’s no comfort. You just choose your burden.
Loki: I’m out of options, Sylvie. I’ve tried everything. The only way that anything survives…
Sylvie: Is if I never kill He Who Remains in the first place. So you have to kill me. I’m not giving you my blessing, if that’s what you’re waiting for.
Loki: What do I do? It’s the Sacred Timeline, or nothing.
Sylvie: It’s not enough to protect the Sacred Timeline, Loki. Even down there, it’s full of death, and destruction, and injustice. Do you really want to be the god who takes away everyone’s free will so you can protect that?
Loki: But what good is free will if everyone’s dead?
Sylvie: And who are you to say we can’t die trying? Who are you to decide we can’t die fighting? You’re replacing one nightmare with another.
Sylvie: I grew up in apocalypses, Loki. I’ve lived through enough of them to know that sometimes it’s okay to destroy something.
Loki: If there’s a hope that you can replace that thing with something better.
Loki: I know what I want. I know what kind of god I need to be for you. For all of us.
[he then proceeds to become the new keeper of time]
Hunter B-15: [sometime after Loki becomes the new keeper of time] You’re leaving.
Mobius: I mean, you think the TVA is going to miss a tired, washed-up old analyst with a heart of gold?
Hunter B-15: I think there’s one or two who will.
Mobius: I’ve got to go see what exactly it is we’ve been protecting for all this time.
Hunter B-15: Are you scared?
Mobius: Oh, yeah.
Sylvie: [as Mobius is watching his life with his children] The yard could do with a bit of work.
Mobius: No. It’s great. Christ, it’s the best house on the block. Never look, never know.
Sylvie: It’s weird that Loki’s not here, isn’t it?
Mobius: Yeah.
Sylvie: Well, see you around, I guess.
Mobius: Where are you going to go?
Sylvie: [as she shrugs] You?
Mobius: I might just wait here for a little bit. Let time pass.
[he stands watching his house from a distance]
