OUR RATING: ★★½
Action adventure directed by Brad Peyton, loosely based on the video game series featuring apes and monsters destroying cities. The story follows Primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George (Jason Liles), the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster.
To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer, Dr. Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris), to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.REVIEWS

Nelson: It’s, um, uh, what’s the terminology? It’s weird you like hanging out with animals more than people.
Davis Okoye: They get me. Animals like you, they lick you. They don’t like you, they eat you. You always know where you stand.
Nelson: Or where you lie, all chewed up in their belly because they ate you. Yeah, that’s just some food for thought. And by the way, you’re the food.
Nelson: Alright, get out of here, you big lug. Say hi to the dogs for me.
Davis Okoye: I will.
[Davis pulls the car away and drives off; to himself]
Nelson: Girls love him. I should shave my head.
Davis Okoye: I rescued George when he was two years-old. He’s not just a friend, he’s family.
Davis Okoye: Don’t move a muscle.
Brett Wyden: Are you crazy?
Davis Okoye: No!
Nelson: Don’t move!
[thinking George is going to attack them, George begins to chuckle]
Davis Okoye: Oh. Okay, very funny. You and I laughing at your joke. New guy, he no laugh. He cry.
Davis Okoye: You can get up now.
Nelson: And check your diaper, come on. Let’s go.
Davis Okoye: I got your message about George, is he okay?
Nelson: I don’t know.
Davis Okoye: George? It’s okay.
Nelson: Is it me or is he considerably bigger?
Davis Okoye: No, he’s definitely bigger.
Davis Okoye: We need to find someone who knows exactly what the hell this thing is.
Nelson: I found her! No, that’s a lie. Technically she found us.
Davis Okoye: I rescued George when he was two years-old. George would have never survived on this island.
Dr. Kate Caldwell: He definitely trusts you.
Davis Okoye: Last night, George was seven feet and weighed five hundred pounds. This morning, he’s nine feet and pushing a thousand. What’s happening to my friend?
Dr. Kate Caldwell: Are you familiar with genetic editing? Changes will be incredibly unpredictable. It increases strength, speed, vigility.
Davis Okoye: Is he the only one?
Claire Wyden: We’ve created the next chapter in natural selection. Project Rampage works.
Davis Okoye: George, you okay, buddy? You’re scared, it’s okay.
Davis Okoye: Where’s George? I need to see him.
Harvey Russell: He is dangerous.
Harvey Russell: We’ve got another one of your little science experiments running around.
Davis Okoye: What do you mean another one?
[to Davis and Kate]
Harvey Russell: Oh, you didn’t know about the thirty foot wolf?
Harvey Russell: Hell of a day, huh? Science experiments falling from the sky.
Davis Okoye: Having George on that plane, it’s a big mistake.
Harvey Russell: I think we’ll be alright.
Dr. Kate Caldwell: We’re going to die!
Davis Okoye: Probably!
Davis Okoye: You have to evacuate Chicago.
Davis Okoye: George didn’t ask for this. They’re going to put him down. That’s not happening.
Dr. Kate Caldwell: There’s something in the river.
Davis Okoye: I was just thinking the only that’s missing right now is a giant crocodile.
[suddenly a giant flying wolf crashes through the building]
Davis Okoye: Of course the wolf flies.
Captain Evans: This time we draw everything we can at these things and get people the hell out of that city!
[as he’s trying to strangle a soldier]
Davis Okoye: That’s a big arm, don’t fight it.
Davis Okoye: George, you okay? Ready to do this, buddy?
[George roars as he goes to attack the giant crocodile]
Davis Okoye: Well, even assholes deserve a second chance.
Harvey Russell: Like my grandpappy always said, us assholes got to stick together.
Davis Okoye: Yeah, it did. I was hoping I could knock him out too, though.
Dr. Kate Caldwell: You know there are other ways of dealing with people, right?
Davis Okoye: I do know that, yeah, but that’s no fun.
[referring to the helicopter]
Dr. Kate Caldwell: I assume you know how to fly this thing.
Davis Okoye: Absolutely. It’s coming back to me. It’s all coming back, right now.
Claire Wyden: Get away from me! Get your hands off me! What the hell are you doing?
[Kate puts the cure for George’s feral nature in Claire’s bag]
Dr. Kate Caldwell: Feeding the monster to the gorilla!
[George grabs Claire and drops her into his mouth]
Claire Wyden: Oh, shit!
[to George after all the commotion is over]
Davis Okoye: Good to have you back, buddy.
[George signs at David]
Davis Okoye: Oh, I look like shit. Okay. Well, you look like big shit.
Harvey Russell: Thank you for saving the world.
Davis Okoye: Yeah, thanks for calling off the airstrike.
Harvey Russell: Like a wise cowboy once said, us assholes got to stick together.
Davis Okoye: Well, how about we all help these people out, and then find George here a new home?
Dr. Kate Caldwell: Where are we going to put him?
Davis Okoye: Well, I can tell you right now, we’re not going to put him on a plane.
