General Abbot: Time is a finite commodity
Gus: [referring to Jepperd] If he were here though, he’d tell me not to be sad. And he’d tell me not to do any “weird deer s**t”. And then he’d tell me to grow a pair.
Wendy: A pair of what?
Gus: I don’t know. He never said.
Gus: [to Wendy] I heard that pigs are supposed to be super smart. So you’re probably like a genius or something.
Narrator: This is a story about the last men. The ones who quietly worked to save us all, but who refused to go quietly.
Aimee: Thank you for saving me.
Tommy Jepperd: I’m not. I’m trying to stop you from messing up my one shot at breaking out Gus.
Gus: He loved me and he kept me safe. He was my Pubba. Even if he wasn’t really my Pubba.
Aditya Singh: You’ve given me something that I thought I’d lost a long time ago.
Gus: Your marbles?
Aditya Singh: Hope.
Jordan: Maybe what’s important is what they’re doing right now. Staying together.
Tommy Jepperd: What’s there to talk about? People die.
Tommy Jepperd: What makes someone hide behind a concrete wall for ten years?
Aimee: Human beings.
Tommy Jepperd: In case you haven’t noticed, there aren’t many of them left.
Aimee: Well, it only takes one bad person and one bad day.
Aimee: I don’t negotiate with a**holes. I just drink with them.
Jordan: Hey, you ever think about how we’re the last humans on Earth? There won’t be another generation after us.
Bear: Ah, but there is. The hybrids.
Narrator: All roads lead us somewhere. They can take us to faraway places, or they can take us right back to where we started. But no matter which road we find ourselves on, one thing’s for sure. All roads lead us to the truth. No matter how painful it might be.
Tommy Jepperd: By the way, how’s your nose doing?
Rufus: Better than your face when I’m done with it.
Tommy Jepperd: That’s bold, coming from a man with a mullet.
Gus: I shouldn’t have lied about Roy. It only made things worse.
Johnny Abbot: [referring to Abbot] He’s all that I got. Family’s in short supply.
Drill Sergeant: You want to go to war, you must be broken!
General Abbot: [referring to Rani] Yeah, I know she’s not contagious, no. Nor is my sense of humor.
General Abbot: After all, who can you trust in this world but family?
General Abbot: We do what we must in order to survive the rigor of this new world.
Narrator: Some roads are arrow-straight. Others, a little more roundabout. But we have to trust, in the end, all roads get us to where we need to go. We just have to get there in time.
Narrator: When it comes to those you love, what lengths are you willing to go to protect them? Well, it depends on how far the world pushes you. Sometimes the world pushes you pretty far. And when the world pushes you like that, you wonder, can you come back from it?
General Abbot: Let me ask you something. Why do you fight so hard to live in a world which clearly doesn’t want you?
Gus: Maybe it’s you the world doesn’t want.
Rani Singh: I can be done. I’m tired, Adi. I can’t keep waiting to live.
General Abbot: Let me give you a little advice. I usually think of my audience as puppets, and then I just pull the strings.
Coach Marlin: It’s a rare thing these days, getting answers.
General Abbot: It’s a funny thing. People only start listening once someone dies.
Gus: [to Abbot] You tried to scare me. But you’re scared too. The Sick is your enemy, not us!
Tommy Jepperd: I need to be sure he’s still alive.
Batista: Why the deer boy?
Tommy Jepperd: He’s my kid.
Gus: [after Jepperd is captured by Abbot’s men] Big Man. What are you doing here?
Tommy Jepperd: I’m rescuing you.
Narrator: Doing the right thing isn’t always easy. And the cost of it may be high. But if you look for it, the reward will show itself, sometimes in the most unexpected of ways.
Narrator: There are times in our lives when big things happen. Some we notice, like a birth, a death, but some we don’t, just little things that don’t seem all that special while they’re happening.
Narrator: It’s true. Some things seem so small at the time, it’s only long after, when we look back, that we notice them. The moments when things came together, and the moments they fell apart.
Tommy Jepperd: We prefer to do things the hard way.
Wendy: Look what they did. This was our home.
Aimee: This is just bricks and concrete. Home is wherever we’re all together.
Narrator: There are these moments we cherish for the rest of our lives, the times when everything comes together. And there are other moments, the ones that we wish we could forget.
Bobby: Bobby am back.
Rufus: [to Jepperd, referring to Bobby] You take care of him. He’s an awesome little dude.
Aimee: [referring to the treatment] They killed my boy to make this. I’m not taking it. I’ll never take it. His name was Roy. He was eight years-old. He loved soccer. I’m holding onto him.
Birdie: “I’ll find you.” I meant it when I said that. Even if I didn’t know at first, there’s a reason life brought us together. There’s a reason why our stories found each other. But there’s a reason why my story took a little longer.
Gus: Jepp, are we safe?
Tommy Jepperd: You’re safer than you were yesterday.
Birdie: Some pandemics start with bats. This one started with hubris.
Birdie: [her message to Richard] The truth is I never went to find you. Because the reality is, if I’m in the picture, you and Gus will never be safe. Being Gus’s mother, keeping him safe from the world, it means I can’t go looking for him.
Birdie: [her message to Richard] We all have to make sacrifices. Whether we deserve it or not. But Gus deserves to have a life. And so do you. Even if that means I can’t be in it. I still don’t know anything about saving the world. But I do know where to look. Alaska.
Tommy Jepperd: World’s a bigger place than you think, little man. A lot bigger. You can’t walk to Alaska, or take a train. You’re going to need a plane, a boat, maybe some huskies. And a lot of coats. It’s freezing out there.
Birdie: [from her recording] I’m terrible at goodbyes. If you’re still listening, one more thing. If I had the chance to do it all over again, Sal’s, the hot chocolate, Gus, I would do it all over. Again, and again, and again. In a heartbeat.
Narrator: This is a story. A story about the last men. The ones who wanted to go back. Back to another time. Back to the way things used to be. But what happens if it’s too late?
General Abbot: When all of this is said and done, we’re going home. We never leave family behind.
Gus: [to Jepperd] I’m staying with you. I brought everybody here. Now Abbot’s coming because of me. But this is my home. I know every rock and I know every tree. Pubba protected our home with his life, and that means it’s mine to defend now. And I know how to.
Gus: What have I ever not listened to you?
Tommy Jepperd: Literally every time.
Aimee: Life doesn’t wait for us. We have to catch up to it sometimes.
General Abbot: [to Johnny] I protected you. I protected you from a world that preys on your kind. Because you’re human. More human than I could ever be.
Gus: I wish I knew how to make you better.
Aimee: I’m human, Gus. It was always just a matter of time. Mine just came a little sooner than I thought.
Aimee: Grownups get it backwards sometimes.
General Abbot: Winning. That’s all there ever really is. Maybe that’s what separates me from you and the millions who were too weak to survive. I tried to teach you, Johnny. But you just refuse to understand, at the end of the day, it’s about who has what it takes to win.
General Abbot: [to Batista, after he kills Johnny] Bury him when this is over. Make it nice. We’re not animals.
Bear: I know it seems like fighting is the only answer. I hate feeling helpless too. But sometimes you have to be there for those you care about. For family.
Bear: [revealing to Wendy that they’re sisters] I didn’t create the Animal Army in order to fight. I did it to find my little sister. She was taken away from me a long time ago. And now that I got you back, I’m never letting anyone take you away from me again.
General Abbot: You have the Sick? You’ve got the Sick.
Aimee: [as she injects him in the neck] Now so do you.
General Abbot: Someone did not learn the lesson.
Gus: Maybe not, but whatever you do to me, you’re dead already.
General Abbot: Kid, this hunt, is over.
Aimee: [to Wendy, referring to the stars] I’ll be joining them soon. If you ever feel lost, remember to look up. Mama Bear will always be watching over you. Wherever you are.
Tommy Jepperd: [as Aimee’s funeral] Those first few days after the Great Crumble, we all stayed in our homes. Like we all agreed to mourn the loss. Loss of lives. The loss of innocence. The loss of love. I lost a lot. Along the way I lost myself. I thought most people did after the Crumble, until I met you. You never lost anything. You only found. And the world is a better place for it, my friend. Now, I’d say goodbye, but I see your spirit in these kids. Aimee Eden lives on.
Narrator: The Big Man knew the truth. But even if he couldn’t go back to the way things were, there’s always something to go towards.
Narrator: The Last Men’s story may be over. But the story of the very special boy continues. And this time, he’s not alone.
