Starring: Frank Grillo, Elizabeth Mitchell, Mykelti Williamson, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Secor
OUR RATING: ★★★☆☆
Story: Horror action sequel written and directed by James DeMonaco and the movie is set two years after former police sergeant Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself taking revenge to kill the man who killed his son on Purge Night. Now Barnes is serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), the front runner in the next Presidential election due to her vow to eliminate the Purge. His mission is to protect her in the run for president and survive the Purge.
On the night of what should be the final Purge, a betrayal from within the government forces Barnes and Roan out onto the street, on the one night when no help is available where they must fight to survive the night.
Verdict: It’s certainly not as good as it’s predecessor but at the same time there is enough there for it not be a total failure. The action is still the same and there are certainly some tense moments, the last movie explored outside of the realm of the purge and this movie examined the politics behind the story. The main problem with this movie is that it tended to drag on at times and it kind of ruined the experience, but it’s still worth a watch if you’re a fan of the franchise.REVIEWS
