Our list of the best quotes from Amazon Prime Video mystery western drama TV series. Outer Range centers on Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. As the Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of daughter-in-law Rebecca, they are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons make a play for their land. Then an untimely death in the community sets off a chain of events, and seemingly small-town, soil-bound troubles come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts west pasture. Wild revelations unfold as Royal fights to protect his family, and through his eyes, we begin to see how time contains secrets held in the past and unsettling mysteries foreshadowed.

Season 1 Quotes

'The world plays out how it's supposed to, so there's nothing to worry about.' – Autumn (Outer Range) Share on X

Royal Abbott: You know anything about a Greek god called Chronos? He carried a sickle. He used it to cut a hole. A tear in the cosmos between heaven and Earth. To separate this world from the next. To separate the known from the unknown. The world has been waiting for something like this.

Perry Abbott: Take some risks, and don’t regret them.

Cecilia Abbott: You know, just because we’re hurting it doesn’t mean God’s not there. I mean, you can’t fight it. You just got to accept it. It’s okay. It is.
Royal Abbott: Or it’s not.

Autumn: [after she finds him throwing Trevor’s body into the void] What is this, Royal?
Royal Abbott: I don’t know what it is.
Autumn: Well, you must know something. Why else would you throw a body in there?

Autumn: You know about the Greek god Chronos?
Royal Abbott: What?
Autumn: He’s trickled down, you know, into every civilization. He’s evolved here and there. He always carried a, like a sickle. He used that sickle to cut a hole. You know, make a tear in the cosmos between heaven and earth. To separate this world from the next. To separate the known from the unknown. You see, that’s how we got time. Because Chronos is chronology.

Cecilia Abbott: You think we’ll be forgiven for this?
Royal Abbott: Fixing to find out.

Perry Abbott: I’m talking about fate.
Royal Abbott: Fate. What about it?
Perry Abbott: Is that how you think the world works?
Royal Abbott: I don’t know how the world works.

Todd Barney: The Tillersons don’t lose.
Royal Abbott: Yeah. A first for everything, Todd.

Royal Abbott: You don’t cozy up to the Tillersons. You keep them as far away as possible.

Wayne Tillerson: We’re born to hunt, and one frontier begets another. I’m hungry more than anything else. I want your west pasture, because I want your west pasture.

Royal Abbott: Dear God, we pray for Trevor. For his family. And for our boys. Our family. We ask that You forgive us. I guess. We ask that You show us the way here, because we’re in trouble. We are desperate. You made this crazy world. So maybe You can give us some sort of hint as to what You’re up to. Because I don’t have the first f***ing clue. And maybe it’s that You have nothing to do with this, or maybe You’re not even there, who knows. There is a big distance between You and us. A gap, a void. There is a great void, and I’m asking You to fill that void. I’m asking You to fill that void. I’m asking You to come down here and explain Yourself. Because this world of Yours isn’t quite adding up, and I hate You for it. I really do. And I don’t even think I f***ing believe in You. But I really hate You. Amen.

Autumn: You need me to keep a hell of a lot of secrets, least of which is the fact that you threw a body into a hole.
Royal Abbott: So did you.
Autumn: But you came back. How?

Autumn: What do you remember from your childhood? Do you remember anything before the age of nine?
Royal Abbott: Why?
Autumn: Because I didn’t until I got here.

Autumn: [to Royal] Something’s happening here. Something bigger than you and me, and we’re the only two people that know about it. And we can help each other understand this. We don’t have to be afraid. What did you see in there?

Royal Abbott: First there was a storm of carbon and molten rock. And that beg at granite and soil. Then land shook, and cracked, and rose till it spiked the sky. And forests grew and died. And grew a hundred times again. And people grew and died. And grew a hundred times again. There were storms and seasons, and fences and blood. Wonder, and vengeance, and regret. And the land and the sky didn’t give two s**ts.

Royal Abbott: That’s what old people do, isn’t it? Repeat themselves.
Amy Abbott: You’re not that old.
Royal Abbott: Right.

Deputy Sheriff Joy: [to herself] Trudy’s a damn girl’s name.

Wayne Tillerson: You know what animals got the best hearings? Bats. Bats and moths. They bounce sound off of walls and each other. Echolocation. That’s also how they mate. Ultrasonic sexual communication. They are remarkable creatures. Remarkable.

Royal Abbott: Why did you push me in that hole?
Autumn: Maybe I just needed to see what would happen. I’m sorry, Royal. I’m happy that you came back. Truly.

Autumn: Holy f***ing s**t. Oh, my God. Royal. You traveled through f***ing time? Did you see me?

Cecilia Abbott: [to Royal] I have stood by you at every turn! Every single injury, every drought, every fire, every time you f***ing couldn’t pay the goddamn bills. Through Rebecca. Through this. And, holy s**t, we made it. We stuck together, because we had to. And all a sudden, you’re telling me you want to go it alone? Do you know what that feels like?

Royal Abbott: What do you need me to do?
Rhett Abbott: I don’t know. Turn back time?

Royal Abbott: There are no Fritos in that hole, Karl. So munch up while you can, big boy, because I got plans for you.

Royal Abbott: Yeah, it’s a crazy world. Strange times. What can you do?
Deputy Sheriff Joy: Same as I’ve always done. Be patient. Keep looking. Something will show up. World is not that crazy.

Royal Abbott: You ever wonder if the world’s not what you think it is? No law. No order. Just chaos all the way down. Heck, look around. We just put a man into the earth, and it’s all folks can do but drink themselves silly, fending off the dark. Fending off the end.

Autumn: Christ. You’re like a walking cliché, Royal. You want a pack of Marlboros too? Oh, you’re still angry, aren’t you? I thought we said all that was water under the bridge. Everyone, Royal Abbott is angry because I pushed him into a goddamn hole. Now, ain’t that some schoolyard s**t?

Trevor Tillerson: [as Royal hallucinates] Time’s a m**herf***er.

Cecilia Abbott: Well, it’s not your necklace anymore though, is it? You lost. He won.
Autumn: That’s such a binary way to look at it. There’s more to everything than just winning or losing.
Cecilia Abbott: Not poker.

Cecilia Abbott: Whatever you’re doing here, whatever you’re trying to get done, I’m not going to let it happen. Do you understand what I’m saying to you?
Autumn: Something’s already happening.

Autumn: It’s hard to really know anyone else, isn’t it? No matter how long you’ve known them. It’s hard enough to know yourself.

Deputy Sheriff Joy: [referring to Perry killing Trevor] Something inside me was talking, and I listened. He did it.

Perry Abbott: [referring to Royal] It’s in me too, you know.
Cecilia Abbott: What?
Perry Abbott: What’s in him. And what’s not.
Cecilia Abbott: It’s hard enough to know yourself, let alone anyone else.

Autumn: Time’s a dimension, right? Like, length, width, height. We can see those. We can touch them. So why not time?

Perry Abbott: It can be hard to explain things, or talk about them. Sometimes you keep things from the people you love because you don’t want to hurt them.
Amy Abbott: Not knowing hurts too.

Autumn: Once upon a time, long ago, there was a young astrologer. He’d walk the land, gazing up at the sky, marveling at the movement of the heavens. His eyes were always fixed on what was above him, so much so that, often he would stumble when he walked. One day, the stumbling astrologer tripped, and he fell into a well. And soon, his mother, who was a wise old woman, she found him at the bottom of the well. And she said to him, “How do you expect to know what’s in the heavens, if you can’t see what’s at your feet?”

Royal Abbott: [to Cecilia] I’d be lost without you. That’s the God’s honest truth.

Autumn: There are things that are happening that are connected to you, and they’re connected to me, and they’re connected to Rebecca. I know that it’s hard to accept this kind of darkness in your own family, Perry, but it is essential, it is essential that you do.

Autumn: [referring to the void] It’s time, Billy. It’s all of time. It’s just sitting there, waiting for us. There’s a pattern to everything happening here. It gets clearer every day. And slowly, but surely, that pattern’s moving everything my way.

Billy Tillerson: You don’t have to know what something is to believe in it.

Billy Tillerson: You think it’s the end? Or the beginning?
Royal Abbott: What?
Billy Tillerson: The hole.

Autumn: [to herself] Somewhere on this land is an altar that has not been built yet, but I will build it. Somewhere in the future is a portal to the past, and I will own it. Somewhere in your heart is a hole, and I will fill it. I am the Mother of Undying Time, and I will usher Her into the world with power, and love, and justice, as a gatekeeper to the Unknown. And I will be your shepherd in the night. And I will be your shepherd in the night. And I will be your shepherd in the night.

Royal Abbott: People have told me that grace is a given thing. That if you seek it, you’ll find it. When I was a kid, I’d go to church, and hear the pastor preach the word. And he’d make me feel everything in my heart. And everything in the world around me would have a little more meaning. The world was a bright place. It worked on me. God was everything good. Then, when I was eight years-old, I shot my father. When I watched that stray buckshot go into his chest and blow all his insides out his back, the world went black. Like it had ended altogether. It hit me that God is everything. Everything good, and everything bad.

Rhett Abbott: You think you’re going to stay here your whole life?
Amy Abbott: Aren’t you?

Billy Tillerson: The hole’s gone.
Luke Tillerson: What do you mean it’s gone?
Billy Tillerson: It’s gone. Disappeared. Maybe it’s hiding somewhere else, I don’t know.

Autumn: I know why you’re afraid of me. It’s okay. I’d be afraid too. You can’t beat fate, Royal.
Royal Abbott: Yeah, I think I’m going to give it a whirl.

Royal Abbott: [after realizing that Autumn is grown up Amy who’s traveled through time] You’re my family. And you pushed out that pain for me. But I held on to it no matter. And for my entire life, I was afraid of how it might bleed on to all of you. And it has. I tried to keep it secret. I tried to protect you from me. All of you. And I’m sorry. I want to do it different. I don’t want grace. I just want my family back. All I want is our family back.
Cecilia Abbott: Our family is gone. It’s all gone. Our children are gone. Amy’s gone.
Royal Abbott: No, she’s not.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Best Quotes (TV Series)

March 10, 2022 by MovieQuotesandMore.com

Our list of the best quotes from the long-awaited Disney+ action adventure sci-fi fantasy limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022). The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005), where Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

1. Part I

Grand Inquisitor: You know who we are.
Saloon Owner: Inquisitors.
Grand Inquisitor: You know what we do?
Saloon Owner: You hunt Jedi.
Grand Inquisitor: In actuality, I would say the Jedi hunt themselves.

Grand Inquisitor: Do you know the key to hunting a Jedi, friend? It is patience. Jedi cannot help what they are. Their compassion leaves a trail.

Grand Inquisitor: You are reckless.
Inquisitor Reva: Why chase after scraps?
Grand Inquisitor: Scraps are all we have left.
Inquisitor Reva: Then we should be hunting bigger prey.

Grand Inquisitor: He is not yours to find. We are past this, Third Sister. I will not warn you again. You will forget this fixation with Kenobi, or I will relieve you of your duties. Is that clear?
Inquisitor Reva: Yes, Grand Inquisitor. Consider him forgotten.

Teeka: [in Jawaese] Should have brought some soap. I could smell you from Anchorhead.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’re late.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Teeka, if you’re going to steal my parts and then sell them back to me, could you at least clean them first, as a courtesy?
Teeka: [in Jawaese] Cleaning costs extra.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi?
Teeka: [in Jawaese] One escaped across the Dune Sea. Inquistors and everything. Hope we get more of them. Good for business.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, don’t count on it. I’ve heard the Jedi are all but extinct. Here.
Teeka: [in Jawaese] You know, you really do stink.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, thank you, Teeka. Goodbye.

Nari: I didn’t think you’d survived.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’re making some kind of mistake.
Nari: I’m sorry, my name is Nari. There’s no mistake.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’re looking for somebody else.
Nari: What are you doing here, Obi-Wan?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: My name is Ben.

Nari: You have no idea what I’ve been through.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You must leave. You’ll draw too much attention.
Nari: But I have nowhere to go. They’re hunting me. You have to help me.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: [referring to the lightsaber] You want my help? Take this. Walk into the middle of the desert, and bury it in the ground. Stay hidden. Live a normal life.

Nari: What about the people that need us? What about the fight?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: The fight is done. We lost.
Nari: What happened to you? You were once a great Jedi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: The time of the Jedi is over. Go back to the town. Let it go.

Leia Organa: All I ever do is wave.
Breha Organa: Then do more than wave. You get out of this what you put into it.

Owen Lars: [referring to Luke] I want you to stay away from him. We don’t need anything from you, Ben.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It’s just a toy.
Owen Lars: It’s a lot more than that.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: There’s more to life than your farm, Owen. He needs to see that. There’s a whole galaxy out there.
Owen Lars: I’m asking you to leave us alone, Ben. I mean it.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Is he okay?
Owen Lars: You don’t care if he’s okay. You care if he’s showing.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: He’s my responsibility, Owen.
Owen Lars: I’m his uncle.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: We talked about this. When the time comes, he must be trained.
Owen Lars: Like you trained his father? Anakin is dead, Ben, and I won’t let you make the same mistake twice. So, leave him on the farm with his family, where he belongs.

Fifth Brother: You know why we are here. There is a Jedi hiding on this planet. We need to know where he is. You will be rewarded well.
Inquisitor Reva: Or you’ll be punished!
Fifth Brother: Reva!
Inquisitor Reva: Hands go first! That way, when you reach for anything, you think of us.

Owen Lars: I have no love for the Jedi. Jedi are vermin. I kill vermin on my farm.
Inquisitor Reva: You protect your family. I like that, Owen. It’s important. You think you could protect them from me?

Inquisitor Reva: [referring to Owen] Tell me where the Jedi is, or this man and his family die! The Jedi are cowards. They failed you. Abandoned you. There is no point in protecting them. They would not do the same for you. But you can save this man. Save his family.

Fifth Brother: You are too impulsive.
Inquisitor Reva: I’m sick of wasting time! This place is beneath us!
Fifth Brother: The Grand Inquisitor was right. You still want Kenobi. But he’s gone, and you won’t find him. We spent the last ten years looking for him.
Inquisitor Reva: Maybe you’ve been looking in the wrong places.

Fifth Brother: [referring to Obi-Wan] What is it you think you will gain by capturing him?
Inquisitor Reva: What I’m owed.
Fifth Brother: Be careful, Third Sister. You go too far.
Inquisitor Reva: Maybe you don’t go far enough.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [after the Inquisitors leave] Thank you, Owen.
Owen Lars: I didn’t do it for you.

Cousin Niano Organa: You thank your droids?
Leia Organa: It’s good manners.
Cousin Niano Organa: You don’t need manners when you’re talking to a lower life form.
Leia Organa: Then I guess I don’t need manners when I’m talking to you.

Leia Organa: [to Niano] You’re scared of him. Your father. You want him to like you, so you repeat what he says, even though you don’t really know what it means. You think being like him will make people frightened of you, but really, you’re the one who’s scared. You’ve never made one decision for yourself in your entire life, and you never will. I may not have seen much, cousin, but I can see that.

Leia Organa: [referring to Niano] He’s rude to droids.
Breha Organa: You have to rise above, Leia. You owe him an apology.
Leia Organa: I’d rather be digested by a jakobeast.

Leia Organa: The Senate’s boring. It’s people in itchy clothes arguing.
Senator Bail Organa: Well, it may seem so.
Leia Organa: I don’t want to be a senator.
Senator Bail Organa: It is why you’ll probably be one of the best.

Leia Organa: I’m not even a real Organa.
Senator Bail Organa: What? Don’t ever say that. You are our child. You are an Organa in every way. One day, this planet will look to you, Leia. There are many ways to lead. You just have to find yours. Plus, imagine the look on your cousin’s face when you get to boss him around for real.

Senator Bail Organa: [after Leia is kidnapped] We cannot let this become public. It would draw too much attention.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, your guard then? Or a bounty hunter?
Senator Bail Organa: Only you know how important she really is, Obi-Wan. If Leia is discovered…
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I can’t leave here, Bail. My duty is to the boy.
Senator Bail Organa: What about your duty to his sister? She’s as important as he is.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It’s been ten years. I’m not who I used to be. Find someone else. She’ll be better off.

Senator Bail Organa: She’s my daughter, Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I told you, I’m not the man you remember.
Senator Bail Organa: You’re going to have to be!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I can’t leave the boy.
Senator Bail Organa: This isn’t about the boy, and you know it!

Senator Bail Organa: You’ve made mistakes. We all did. It’s the past. Move on. Be done with it. You couldn’t save Anakin, but you can save her.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: And what if I can’t?
Senator Bail Organa: There is no one I trust more with my child than you. Please, old friend. For her. One last fight.

Vect Nokru: [referring to coming to rescue Leia] You sure he’s going to come?
Inquisitor Reva: He fought beside her father during the war. He’ll come. He won’t be able to help it. The Jedi will hunt himself.

2. Part II'You think the less you say, the less you give away, but really, it's the opposite.' - Leia Organa (Obi-Wan Kenobi) Share on X

Obi-Wan Kenobi: I’m looking for a ship. I was tracking its signature.
Deck Officer: You’re in Daiyu now. All signals in or out are blocked. People like their secrets out here.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: If ever I needed guidance, Master, it’s now.

Tetha Grig: You want some spice, old man? I got Kessel pure, glitterstim, and Felucian. What do you need?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: How about some information? I’m looking for my daughter. She was taken, and she’s on this planet.
Tetha Grig: Well, if she’s here, you’re never going to see her again. Nobody leaves this place. I was someone’s daughter once too. Here. That one’s free. Couple more of those and you’ll forget she ever existed.

Woman: The Force is so strong with you.
Haja Estree: Yeah, I know.

Haja Estree: I am Haja Estree, Jedi. I help all who are in need. In return, I ask only a few credits. The shadows are my realm, for the light is an unforgiving place for my kind.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Of course. How much?
Haja Estree: Five hundred to locate the girl, another three hundred to take you to her.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Goodness, that light is unforgiving.
Haja Estree: I mean, that’s a really good deal. Oh, make it a thousand, I’ll even show you some tricks.

Haja Estree: What do you know of the Force, my friend?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Just that it’s a lot of remotes and magnets.
Haja Estree: Okay, I know how this looks.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It looks like you just took money from that family.
Haja Estree: I got them safe. Just a little poorer. You’re not going to tell anyone, are you?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: That depends on what you tell me.

Haja Estree: What are you, a bounty hunter?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’re a bottom-feeder, a rat who preys on weakness. But in my experience, rats know more about the sewers than anyone else.
Haja Estree: So judgmental.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’ll help me?
Haja Estree: Yeah.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Can I trust you?
Haja Estree: Definitely.

Vect Nokru: [to Obi-Wan] I didn’t know that Jedi could bleed. I’m surprised you fell for it. I figured you’d be smarter than to risk everything for a spoiled little brat. The Inquisitor really figured you out.

Vect Nokru: You’re not a Jedi anymore, Kenobi. You’re just a man. And you’re bleeding all over my floor.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, everybody bleeds.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Your father sent me. I’m here to help you.
Leia Organa: Where is the army?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Come. I’m going to get you out of here.
Leia Organa: Why should I trust you?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Would you rather stay here? Now, let’s go.

Leia Organa: You’re a Jedi?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Shh. Quiet.
Leia Organa: It’s just you seem kind of old and beat up.

Grand Inquisitor: You would kidnap an Imperial Senator’s child?
Inquisitor Reva: We’ve done worse.

Fifth Brother: She thinks she will gain favor by capturing Kenobi.
Grand Inquisitor: Whatever power you are craving, it will not change what you are.
Inquisitor Reva: And what is that?
Grand Inquisitor: The least of us. You came to us from the gutter. Your ability gave you station, but all the power in the world can’t mask the stench beneath.
Inquisitor Reva: Maybe that stench is your failure.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Now, if anyone asks, we’re farmers from Tawl and you’re my daughter.
Leia Organa: Granddaughter, maybe.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: What?
Leia Organa: Nothing.

Leia Organa: This place is incredible. Do you smell that?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Don’t smell anything. Don’t look at anything. Don’t touch anything.
Leia Organa: You sound like my parents.

Leia Organa: Why aren’t you using your lightsaber? Maybe it’s because you’re not really a Jedi. I heard they all died. I read that Jedi can make things float. Make me float.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: What?
Leia Organa: I want to float.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: No.
Leia Organa: Because you can’t.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Because if I use the Force, then it’ll draw attention to us.

Leia Organa: You haven’t even told me your name.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Ben.
Leia Organa: It’s not a Jedi name.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, that’s my name. You’ll have to trust me eventually.
Leia Organa: How can I trust you when I know you’re hiding something? You think the less you say, the less you give away, but really, it’s the opposite.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: How old are you?
Leia Organa: Ten.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You don’t sound like you’re ten.
Leia Organa: Thank you.

Grand Inquisitor: And remember, this is no ordinary Jedi. Kenobi is the last ember of a dying age. Extinguish him.
Fifth Brother: Consider it done.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’ll be back in the palace, back to normal, by nightfall.
Leia Organa: Normal. Great.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Now who’s hiding something, Princess?
Leia Organa: You don’t have to call me that. I’m just Leia.

Leia Organa: [after Obi-Wan uses the force to save her] You really are a Jedi.

Leia Organa: Who are they?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Inquisitors. Many were Jedi who turned to the dark side. Now, they hunt their own kind.
Leia Organa: And this is all for you? Who are you?

Haja Estree: There are people out there, people who can help you.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You expect me to trust you? You’re a criminal.
Haja Estree: Look, have I made a few bad decisions? Sure. Do I feel bad about it? Sometimes. Do I like credits? Yeah. So much stuff you can buy with credits.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Haja.
Haja Estree: You remembered my name. I’m trying to make amends. I got that family safe, and I’m going to do the same for you. If I’d known what you were…
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It doesn’t matter what I am. I just need to get the girl home.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: And how do I know this isn’t just a trap?
Haja Estree: What choice do you have? You’re not alone, Obi-Wan.

Haja Estree: What’s the bounty on me now? A million? Two million? Doesn’t matter, because you will not get it.
Inquisitor Reva: You’re no Jedi. But you know where one is.
Haja Estree: I’m the only Jedi around.

Leia Organa: [to Obi-Wan] Is it that hard to believe you might have friends? Look, since I met you, I’ve been chased, shot at, I almost fell to my death, and now there are Inquisiting people after us. If somebody is offering us help, I think we should take it.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: You just remind me of someone. She was fearless too. And stubborn.
Leia Organa: I’m not stubborn.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Yes, you are.
Leia Organa: I’m not! Was your friend a Jedi, too?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: No, she was a leader. She died a long time ago.
Leia Organa: I’m sorry.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Me too.

Inquisitor Reva: [to Obi-Wan] I can feel you. Your fear betrays you. You don’t have to worry. You’re not going to die, today.

Inquisitor Reva: I’m just going to take you to him. Lord Vader will be pleased. You didn’t know. He’s alive, Obi-Wan. Anakin Skywalker is alive. And he’s been looking for you for a long time. And I will be the one to deliver you to him.

Inquisitor Reva: [after she stabs the Grand Inquisitor with her lightsaber] You yeally think I’d let you take all the credit? Who’s in the gutter now?

Inquisitor Reva: You can’t run, Obi-Wan! You can’t escape him! We will find you! We will destroy you!

3. Part III

'Only when the eyes are closed can you truly see.' - Obi-Wan Kenobi Share on X

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Help me, Master Qui-Gon. Give me strength.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [referring to Vadar] He’s coming, Master.

Inquisitor Reva: He will pay for the Grand Inquisitor’s…
Darth Vader: The Grand Inquisitor means nothing. Kenobi is all that matters now. Is that understood?
Inquisitor Reva: Yes, my lord.
Darth Vader: I have been watching you, Third Sister. I know what it is you seek. Prove yourself, and the position of Grand Inquisitor is yours. Fail me, and you will not live to regret it.

'Actions speak louder than words.' - Tala (Obi-Wan Kenobi) Share on X

Leia Organa: Are we almost there? Can’t you make this thing go any faster?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It’s a trade route, Leia. I’m not in control of it.
Leia Organa: Can’t you use the Force on it or something?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: That’s not how it works.
Leia Organa: How does it work? The Force. What does it feel like?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Have you ever been afraid of the dark? How does it feel when you turn on the light?
Leia Organa: I feel safe.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Yes, it feels like that.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [referring to Haja] Coordinates say the meeting point is further north. That is if our new friend was telling the truth.
Leia Organa: Why would he lie?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: People are not all good, Leia.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [as their walking through Mapuzo] It wasn’t always like this here. There were fields and families. And then the Empire came in and ravaged it all.
Leia Organa: Thought the Empire was supposed to be helping us.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, there are some, like your dad, who are trying to. Seems like a losing battle these days.

Fifth Brother: I will get what I deserve, Third Sister. And so will you.
Inquisitor Reva: [to herself as he walks away] I hope so. I certainly hope so.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Now, remember, if anyone asks, we’re farmers from Tawl. You’re my daughter, and you don’t talk.
Leia Organa: I can’t talk, or I don’t like to talk?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You don’t talk.
Leia Organa: Got it.

Leia Organa: This is my father, Orden. We’re farmers from Tawl.
Freck: Hey, there. I’m Freck.
Leia Organa: Father, aren’t you going to say hello?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Hello.
Leia Organa: We were going on a trip, and we got a little lost in this field.
Freck: That’s a weird story.

Stormtrooper: What about you? Do you have any information about a Jedi?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I wouldn’t know one if I saw one.

Stormtrooper: You called her Leia. Just that I thought her name was Luma.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: That was her mother’s name. I get confused. Like I said, it’s not been easy. Sometimes when I look at Luma, I see her mother’s face. We all miss her very much.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: What?
Leia Organa: You knew her, my real mother, didn’t you?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It was just a story.
Leia Organa: The whole time I’ve known you, you’ve been hiding something. Lying to me.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Leia.
Leia Organa: Are you my real father?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I wish that I could say I was. But, no, I’m not.

Leia Organa: [referring to her real father] Sometimes I try to imagine what he was like.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I know that feeling. As Jedi, we’re taken from our families when we’re very young. I still have glimpses, flashes really, my mother’s shawl, my father’s hands. I remember a baby.
Leia Organa: A baby?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Yes, I think I had a brother. I really don’t remember him. I wished I did. Then I joined the Jedi, and I got a new family just like you.

Tala: [referring to Haja] He gave you the right coordinates. I was on my way when the probes arrived, but you’d already gone.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I hadn’t expected anyone to come.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Everything will be alright, Leia. We’ll make it out.
Leia Organa: I didn’t do it on purpose. I didn’t mean to run away. I used to do it all the time. I just, it was just for fun.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It wasn’t your fault, Leia.
Leia Organa: I miss home.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’ll be home very soon.

Tala: He’s on our side. Designation’s NED-B.
Leia Organa: Hi, NED-B. This is L0-LA59. Lola, say hello.
Tala: He’s just a loader. They don’t allow them to communicate.
Leia Organa: But what if he has something to say?
Tala: Actions speak louder than words.

Tala: There’s a lot of good people risking their lives out there.
Leia Organa: Are they all Jedi?
Tala: Not all. These days, the Empire hunts anyone who’s Force-sensitive. Even children.
Leia Organa: What happens to them?
Tala: We’re not sure. But no one ever sees them again.

Leia Organa: [referring to the writing on the wall] What does it say?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: “Only when the eyes are closed can you truly see.”
Leia Organa: See what?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: The Way.

Leia Organa: Is it scary? Having to pretend?
Tala: Yeah, sometimes. But it’s worth it if I can help people.

Tala: [referring to Leia] She’ll make a good fighter one day.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Yes, I think you might be right.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Why do you do this? Risk everything?
Tala: I joined up when the Empire stood for something. By the time I realized what they really were, it was too late. I made some mistakes.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: We all did.
Tala: I can’t imagine Obi-Wan Kenobi doing anything wrong.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It’s just Ben these days.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [after he sees Vadar] Leia, go with Tala. I’ll be right behind you.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: [to Tala] Get her to Alderaan. Promise me. Promise me. I’ll lead them away.

Darth Vader: You cannot run, Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: What have you become?
Darth Vader: I am what you made me.

Darth Vader: [to Obi-Wan, as they’re having a lightsaber fight] The years have made you weak.

Tala: Keep running till you reach the port. A pilot will meet you there.
Leia Organa: [referring to Obi-Wan] Okay. Bring him back.

Darth Vader: [to Obi-Wan] You should’ve killed me when you had the chance.

Darth Vader: Now you will suffer, Obi-Wan. Your pain has just begun.
[drops Obi-Wan into the fire and drags him across it]

Inquisitor Reva: Don’t be afraid. Come closer.
Leia Organa: Are you the one I’m supposed to meet?
Inquisitor Reva: Unfortunately, they couldn’t make it. But I’ll take you from here.

Tala: [as Obi-Wan pulls himself out of the bacta tank] You’re still not healed! Your burns, your body, they just need time. We’re on Jabiim. You’re safe now.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Where’s Leia?

Leia Organa: You can’t keep me here. My father is Bail Organa, he’s a senator. I am a princess of Alderaan.
Inquisitor Reva: That’s cute. You have no rights here, Princess. The Empire doesn’t take kindly to Jedi sympathizers.
Leia Organa: He will come for me.
Inquisitor Reva: Oh. Obi-Wan is dead. Nobody is coming for you.

Roken: Get him on the first transport out of here. Too many people are looking for you. You’ll put us all in danger.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I need your help.
Roken: So does every kid making a rock float from here to Coruscant.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Someone very important to me has been taken. I need your help to get her back.
Roken: General, I’m sorry, but that’s not my problem.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, I wish that were true.

'The braver you seem, the more afraid you are.' - Inquisitor Reva (Obi-Wan Kenobi) Share on X

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [referring to Leia] I can’t lose her. You’ve no idea what the Empire is capable of.
Roken: I had a wife once. I knew exactly what she was before we got married. We tried to hide it. And the Inquisitors found her anyway. So I know exactly what the Empire can do. Look, if you want my help, you got it.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: She’s ten years-old. I won’t leave her there. I’ll go on my own.
Sully: You can barely stand. You’re not getting in there.
Tala: I’ll go with him. Well, I have officer clearance. I can get you inside, and I can get you access.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Is your cover still intact?
Tala: We’ll find out soon enough.

Tala: Your body is not the only thing that needs to heal, Ben. The past is a hard thing to forget. And you just need time, that’s all.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Some things can’t be forgotten.
Tala: You care about Leia? Then you’re going to have to try.

Leia Organa: [referring to Obi-Wan] How did he die?
Inquisitor Reva: He burned to death on Mapuzo. The people I’m looking for left him there to die. If you tell me where the Path is, you can go home to your family. This can all be over.
Leia Organa: I don’t know anything about a Path.
Inquisitor Reva: Well, let’s think a little bit harder, shall we?

Tala: I am the lead security on this level. Then I’m your commanding officer, and you will address me as “Sir”.
Guard: Yes, sir. Of course. But…
Tala: Perhaps I should just inform the Grand Inquisitor of your insolence. I’m here with classified intelligence. Do you know what “classified” means?
Guard: Yes, sir.
Tala: Then why am I wasting my breath on you?
Guard: Yes, sir. Of course.

Leia Organa: [as Reva is trying to use the Force to read her mind] Is this a staring contest?
Inquisitor Reva: You’re strong. The braver you seem, the more afraid you are. I learned that at a very young age as well.

Inquisitor Reva: [to Leia] I had a droid when I was younger too. It was taken from me. Like everything else.

Inquisitor Reva: I know what it’s like being alone. Kenobi is gone. The people you’re trying to protect, they are not coming for you. The only person that can save you now, Leia, is you. Tell me where they are. We’re all on the same side here. These people, they’ll leave you too. To die.

Leia Organa: I’ll tell you where they are. I just don’t want anyone to get hurt.
Inquisitor Reva: I give you my word.
Leia Organa: I’ll have to tell my father first. But that’s okay, right? You said we’re all on the same side.
Inquisitor Reva: Nice try, Princess. I hope you like pain.
Leia Organa: I’ll never tell you where they are!
Inquisitor Reva: Then it’s time to make those tears real.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: I think I’ve just found out what they’re hiding down here. This place isn’t a fortress. It’s a tomb.

Inquisitor Reva: You are going to tell me what I want to know!
Leia Organa: What are you doing to me?
Inquisitor Reva: The same thing I do to anyone who doesn’t embrace the Empire. This is your last chance, Leia. Say something!
Leia Organa: I’ll never tell you!
Inquisitor Reva: Then your choice is made.

Tala: [after interrupting Reva from torturing Leia] They use a salvage business to launder goods, render new identities, and fly the Jedi out. I found evidence before the escape.
Inquisitor Reva: Impressive.
Tala: We need to direct all resources there immediately, and take the network out at its root.
Inquisitor Reva: Unless, of course, you’re lying.

Leia Organa: You’re alive. They told me you were dead. I didn’t tell them anything.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I know. Come with me. I’m going to get you home.

Inquisitor Reva: It makes sense the Path would have people among us. Eyes. What does not make sense is how an old man and a little girl escaped an Imperial checkpoint on your planet. Unless they had help.
Tala: I will not have my integrity questioned.
Inquisitor Reva: Then admit you’re a spy!
Tala: Of course I am. I spent two years undercover trying to find out where they were hidden.

Inquisitor Reva: [to Tala] I do like a good liar. I don’t know if you’re lying to me, or for me, but we’ll see.

Inquisitor Reva: A traitor! A child and an old man. Was it worth it? Betraying everything you are.
Tala: This was never who I was.
Inquisitor Reva: Then you die for nothing.

Darth Vader: [after Obi-Wan, Leia, and Tala escape] You were warned what defeat would bring! I will tolerate your weakness no longer.
Inquisitor Reva: [as Vader is Force choking her] I let them go. I put a tracker on their ship. Soon, the location of the network and Kenobi will be ours.
Darth Vader: It seems I have underestimated you.

Inquisitor Reva: Kenobi is all that matters.
Darth Vader: There can be no mistakes. You’re certain the tracker is with him?
Inquisitor Reva: Yes, my lord. Where he goes, it will follow.

Roken: [after Obi-Wan, Leia, and Tala return] Where’s Wade?
Tala: I guess you’re soldiers now after all.

5. Part V

'Some things you can't forget. But you can fight to make them better.' - Tala (Obi-Wan Kenobi) Share on X

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [flashback] Ah, there you are.
Anakin Skywalker: I was beginning to think you weren’t coming, Master.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Good. Then, maybe I stand more of a chance this time. Are you ready?
Anakin Skywalker: Are you?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Then, let’s begin.
[they pair begin their lightsaber training battle]

Inquisitor Reva: The tracker worked. He’s arriving on Jabiim as we speak.
Darth Vader: You have done well. Kneel, Grand Inquisitor.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Haja? What are you doing here?
Haja Estree: I had nowhere else to go. Right after I saw you, I got into a fight with that scary lady Inquisitor. Now, I’m wanted by the Empire. But now, I know what it feels like being a real Jedi. It’s not easy. This place is a good business opportunity though.

Inquisitor Reva: My Lord, we’re approaching Jabiim.
Darth Vader: Lock down the facility.
Inquisitor Reva: If we seal them in now, they can hold out for days. If we cannot break them…
Darth Vader: It is not them we need to break.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [reads the message left on the wall] “The light will fade, but is never forgotten.”

Roken: An Imperial Destroyer just arrived in orbit above us.
Tala: She must have tracked us.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It’s not her. It’s Vader.
Sully: He wants us to surrender.
Tala: If we surrender, he’ll kill us all.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: He’ll attack next. He hasn’t the patience for a siege.
Roken: How do you know?

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [flashback, as they continue their training battle] You grow too aggressive, Anakin. Be mindful. A Jedi’s goal is to defend life, not take it.
Anakin Skywalker: Mercy doesn’t defeat an enemy, Master. Which is why you’re going to lose.

Haja Estree: That was underwhelming.
Roken: I don’t need your opinion.
Haja Estree: Did you try going in the vents to see what’s going on?
Roken: I’m a little too big to be crawling around in the vents. Would you like to try?
Leia Organa: I’m going to need a ladder.
Roken: It’s not playtime right now, Princess.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Do as she asks. You trust me? I trust her. Get her the ladder.

Senator Bail Organa: [as Obi-Wan sees the message] I know we said no communication, but your silence worries me. If he’s found you, if he’s learned of the children, if I don’t hear from you soon, I’ll head to Tatooine. Owen will need help with the boy. I pray you’re safe, Obi-Wan. Both of you.

Tala: You know, I was following orders on Garel. The Empire said it was a roundup. People not paying their way, taxes for the cause. They lied. There were four families, all Force-sensitive, and we gathered them up. I didn’t know who they were. I didn’t know what the Inquisitors would do. Fourteen people died, and six of them were children, and I couldn’t do anything to help them. So now, I do this. One for every one I get through. You’re right, Ben. Some things you can’t forget. But you can fight to make them better.

Inquisitor Reva: If this is you stalling for time, it won’t work. Lord Vader will have you at any cost.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You mean, Anakin. You knew who Vader was. Back on Daiyu, how did you know that? Vader would have kept that hidden, and you’re too young to have known him. Unless you were there.

Inquisitor Reva: [after it’s revealed she was one of the younglins on the night of Order 66] We thought he was there to help us. I tried to help them, but I couldn’t. I was too weak. When he left, I played dead. Hid with the bodies. Felt them go cold. They were the only family I knew. And he slaughtered them.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’re not serving him, are you? You’re hunting him. Let me help you.
Inquisitor Reva: Why would I ever trust you?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Because we want the same thing.
Inquisitor Reva: Do we, Obi-Wan? Do you really want Anakin dead? Where were you while he was killing my friends? He was your Padawan. Why didn’t you stop him? Why didn’t you save us?

Inquisitor Reva: I don’t need your help. I don’t need anyone.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You won’t stop him alone.
Inquisitor Reva: You have no idea what I’ve done alone.

Tala: [to Obi-Wan as she’s about to sacrifices herself] May the Force be with you.

Anakin Skywalker: [flashback, to Obi-Wan during their training battle] There’s no way out, Master. Admit you are beaten.

Roken: What is it? What’s wrong?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It’s over. I’m going back.
Roken: You can’t quit. I fought for too long. You can’t just throw that away! It won’t make a difference. They want all of us.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Vader wants me.
Roken: [referring to Tala] If you surrender, she died for nothing.

Roken: He’ll keep coming.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: That’s why I have to stop him.
Roken: You’re going to fight him?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: He expects me to surrender. He knows I’ll do everything I can to protect these people.
Haja Estree: You’ll be on your own.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: No.

Roken: You want to tell me how you’re going to fight without a weapon?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: There are other ways to fight.

Inquisitor Reva: [referring to Vader] He’s on his way. You’re going to die soon.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’re not bringing him to me. I’m bringing him to you. This isn’t over yet. There are families back there. Children. Are you going to let him do it again, what he did to you? We could end this together.
Inquisitor Reva: What makes you think he won’t see it coming?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Because all he’ll see is me.

Anakin Skywalker: [flashback] There. Your weapon’s gone. It’s over.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Your need for victory, Anakin, it blinds you.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [flashback] You’re a great warrior, Anakin, but your need to prove yourself is your undoing. Until you overcome it, a Padawan you will still be.

Darth Vader: [referring to Obi-Wan, as Reva tries to attack him] He was wise to use you against me.

Darth Vader: [after he stabs her with his lightsaber] Did you really believe I did not see it, youngling? You are of no further use.

Grand Inquisitor: Hello, Third Sister. Revenge does wonders for the will to live, don’t you think? Your rage was useful. Now it is tiresome. We will leave you where we found you. In the gutter, where you belong. Goodbye, Grand Inquisitor.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Something’s wrong.

Roken: [after Reva hears the message Organa left for Obi-Wan] What is it? Are you okay?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I’m sure it’s nothing. Thank you, Roken.

6. Part VI

Leia Organa: No! No way! You can’t just leave me here!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I’m the one that Vader wants. If I go, he will follow.
Leia Organa: I’m not letting you!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Leia, please.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: You’ve spent ten years protecting the Jedi. This is my chance to return that favor.
Roken: But we’re so close.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Roken, you know this plan makes sense.
Sully: No, we need you!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It’ll buy you the time you need. You must get these people out of here. You are all the future. You are the future. You’re what needs to survive.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: You must promise me that you’ll get her home, Haja. As soon as I’m in the clear.
Haja Estree: You have my word. Although, I know the word of a liar, and a fake Jedi may not mean much to you.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It’s good enough for me.

Beru Lars: [referring to Reva] How did she know he was here?
Owen Lars: I don’t know. All I know is she’s coming, Ben is gone.
Beru Lars: Whose fault is that?

Owen Lars: We need to leave, Beru. We need to take Luke, and hide somewhere.
Beru Lars: Where? In the desert? I’m not leaving my home. At least here we have a chance.
Owen Lars: If we stay, we’d need help.
Beru Lars: I’m not putting anyone else in danger, Owen. We’re enough. You and me.

Leia Organa: You said you’d take me home.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I wish that I could, Leia. Really, I do. Please tell your father I tried.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [referring to Tala’s holster] I have something for you. Roken found it before we got out. She would have wanted you to have it.
Leia Organa: It’s empty.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, I wasn’t going to give you a blaster, Leia. You’re ten years-old. But you won’t always be.

Leia Organa: Come back. Please.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I promise.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [referring to Vader] I have to face him, Master. Whether he dies or I do, this ends today.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: I have to go.
Roken: It’s not about us, is it? You want to do it. It’s about you and him.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Roken. There are not many leaders left. People follow you. Don’t stop.
Roken: I’m just getting started.

Grand Inquisitor: My Lord, we must continue our pursuit of the insurgents. Now is our chance to wipe out this network in its entirety. We cannot prioritize one lone Jedi.
Darth Vader: He is not just any Jedi. Follow Kenobi.

Darth Vader: Have you come to destroy me, Obi-Wan?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I will do what I must.
Darth Vader: Then you will die.
[they begin lightsaber fighting]

Darth Vader: [to Obi-Wan] Your strength has returned. But the weakness still remains. And that is why you will always lose.

Darth Vader: [to Obi-Wan] Did you truly think that you could defeat me? You have failed, Master.

Inquisitor Reva: [as they’re fighting] You really love the boy. Like he’s your own.
Owen Lars: He is my own.

Owen Lars: What do you want?
Inquisitor Reva: Justice.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [after he damages Vader’s mask and breathing device] Anakin.
Darth Vader/Anakin: Anakin is gone. I am what remains.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Anakin. For all of it.
Darth Vader/Anakin: I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did. The same way, I will destroy you!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Then my friend is truly dead. Goodbye, Darth.
Darth Vader/Anakin: Obi-Wan! Obi-Wan!

Inquisitor Reva: [after she returns Luke to Owen and Beru] I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t do it. I failed them. He killed them all, and I couldn’t do it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You haven’t failed them. By showing mercy, you have given them peace. You have honored them.

Inquisitor Reva: [referring to Vader] Have I become him?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: No. You have chosen not to. Who you become now, that is up to you.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [to Reva] Now you’re free. We both are.

Darth Vader: The probes are tracking every system within range. We will destroy everything in our path until he is found.
Emperor Palpatine: You seem agitated, my friend.
Darth Vader: He will not evade me again.
Emperor Palpatine: I wonder if your thoughts are clear on this, Lord Vader. Perhaps your feelings for your old master have left you weakened. If your past cannot be overcome…
Darth Vader: Kenobi means nothing. I serve only you, my Master.

Leia Organa: [wearing Tala’s holster] You said there were many ways to lead.
Senator Bail Organa: Looks like I was right.
Leia Organa: If I’m going to do this, I’m going to want to change a few things.
Senator Bail Organa: Then let’s change things together.

Leia Organa: So, who is it today? More cousins?
Senator Bail Organa: Not exactly.
Leia Organa: [Obi-Wan steps out of the ship with Lola following behind him] Lola!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Who am I to separate a young lady from her droid?

Senator Bail Organa: We can never repay you.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: [as he looks at Leia] Well, she has already done that.

Senator Bail Organa: I fear for her future. The Empire grows stronger and bolder.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Well, if you ever need my help again, you know where to find me.
Senator Bail Organa: Let’s hope that day never comes.

Leia Organa: So, what’ll you do now?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I don’t know. What do you think I should do?
Leia Organa: I think you should sleep.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I think you’re right.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Leia, when I said before that I didn’t know your parents… Princess Leia Organa, you are wise, discerning, kindhearted. These are qualities that came from your mother. But you are also passionate, and fearless, forthright. And these are gifts from your father. Both were exceptional people who bore an exceptional daughter. I wish I could tell you more.
Leia Organa: It’s okay. You don’t have to. Thank you.

Leia Organa: Will I ever see you again?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Maybe. Someday. If you ever need help from a tired old man. But we must be careful. No one must know, or it could endanger us both.
Leia Organa: Goodbye, Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Goodbye, Princess. May the Force be with you.

Owen Lars: What are you doing here? I thought you were going to keep your distance.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: And I will. You know, you were right. He just needs to be a boy. The future will take care of itself. The only protection he needs now, Owen, is you and Beru. Take good care of him.
Owen Lars: I will. Ben? You want to meet him?

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [to Luke] Hello there.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: [as he sees Force ghost Qui-Gon] Master Qui-Gon.
Qui-Gon Jinn: Well, took you long enough.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Beginning to think you’d never come.
Qui-Gon Jinn: I was always here, Obi-Wan. You just were not ready to see. Come on. We’ve got a ways to go.

Season 2
Season 3
Season 4

Slow Horses is available to watch on Apple TV+.

Season 1 Quotes

Jackson Lamb: I thought spooks were supposed to be stealthy. Another day dawns on MI-F***ing Useless.

Catherine Standish: [as River’s going through the garbage] What are you looking for?
River Cartwright: A reason not to blow my brains out.

Roddy Ho: [to Catherine] Is today the day you finally give me something remotely challenging?

River Cartwright: I don’t know what I’m looking for.
Jackson Lamb: Yeah. The remnants of a once promising career.

Is it me, or did all the fun go out of everything around 1979? - Slow Horses Season 1 Quotes

Jackson Lamb: Is it me, or did all the fun go out of everything around 1979?

Jackson Lamb: What’s all this “we”? There is no “we”. There’s just me telling you what to do.

Jackson Lamb: The last time you were given any sort of responsibility, a load of innocent people got blown to bits.
River Cartwright: And there it is.
Jackson Lamb: Well, I’m sorry you find it so tiresome, Cartwright, but it’s not the social faux pas you seem to think it was. You didn’t break wind during someone’s wedding vows.

Jackson Lamb: If a pilot crashes a simulator, he doesn’t then brush it off and go, “Well, I’m sorry. It was a f***ing exercise,” and then expect to be put behind the wheel of a 747.
River Cartwright: It’s not the same thing.
Jackson Lamb: No. It’s worse, you tit.

River Cartwright: You’re going to do this every day then?
Jackson Lamb: Well, if I didn’t hate the sight of you, I’d come to your home, and do it at the weekends too.

Jackson Lamb: I am surrounded by f***ups in this building, but you are the gold standard of f***ups. By all rights, you shouldn’t even be here. You should’ve skipped this purgatory and gone straight to hell. Melted you down for glue. But you avoided that because your name is Cartwright. So when you wonder why I have you going through the rubbish of a disgraced right-wing journo, wonder no more. It’s because I don’t like you. And I want you to quit.
River Cartwright: I’ll just get back to retching then, shall I?

Failure is contagious. - Slow Horses Season 1 Quotes

River Cartwright: Sid’s gone for coffee.
Jackson Lamb: No, she’s already had coffee. She was getting away from you. Failure is contagious.

River Cartwright: There’s no lives in your hands here in HR, is there?
Spider Webb: Yeah, and what have you got in your hands at Slough House, apart from your d**k?

River Cartwright: Yeah, you see, if you have to explain a joke, it’s because it’s not working.

Catherine Standish: What did your last servant die of?
Jackson Lamb: What did your last boss die of?

Sid Baker: Oh, cry me a river, River. No, seriously, as a friend…
River Cartwright: As a friend? Are we friends? I don’t think I’m ready to make that kind of commitment, to be honest with you.

Sid Baker: Look, what I’m seeing right now is just not good for your dating profile.
River Cartwright: What are you? My dating coach?
Sid Baker: Absolutely not. That would be a full-time job.

Jackson Lamb: If people are happy to spend time in this building after 5:00 PM, then I’m not really doing my job.

Jackson Lamb: At the end of the working day, your pitiful, miserable time is your own. But if I find out you are indulging in extracurricular activities that could upset the equilibrium of this blessed sanctuary, then I will make it so that you wish you were in a Siberian gulag.

River Cartwright: Lamb’s been there years, so they’ve obviously never forgiven him. The man practically lives there. Was he ever actually good? I can’t imagine it.

River Cartwright: Moscow rules, watch your back. London rules, cover your a**.

Bringing you up to speed is like trying to explain Norway to a dog. - Slow Horses Season 1 Quotes

Jackson Lamb: Oh, you people are slow. Bringing you up to speed is like trying to explain Norway to a dog.

River Cartwright: [referring to the hostage situation] Alright, so what do we do then?
Jackson Lamb: What we always do here. Absolutely nothing.

Jackson Lamb: When Cartwright comes back, tie him to his desk by his bollocks. I want my people in here, doing nothing.

Catherine Standish: Where were you?
River Cartwright: Just getting some air.
Catherine Standish: We have air in here.
River Cartwright: Yeah, well, it’s pretty fetid.

Roddy Ho: I’m from the streets. Sometimes I talk street.

Lamb's a burnout for a reason. - Slow Horses Season 1 Quotes

Diana Taverner: Moody, a word of warning. Lamb’s a burnout for a reason. When he was in the field, he had a lot more to worry about than screwups like you. He risked being caught, tortured, and shot, and he survived. Might want to bear that in mind.

Jackson Lamb: [as Catherine is about to enter his office] I’d hang back if I were you. God. I have just let one rip. It’s a killer.

Louisa Guy: You doing anything tonight?
Min Harper: I’m praying for a lottery win. But I mean, that’s not, you know, necessarily location specific. I could do that on the move.

Jackson Lamb: [to River] A shoe in a bag? I’m embarrassed for you.

Jackson Lamb: [referring to being back in the office] If this is nicer than going back to your place, I pity you.

Min Harper: [referring to Jed] I didn’t mean to kill him.
Jackson Lamb: Of course you didn’t. If you meant to kill him, he’d still be alive.

Peter Judd: Robert Hobden, as I live and breathe and shag like a lord.

Diana Taverner: What do you think you’re playing at?
Jackson Lamb: Well, that’s f***ing choice, considering I lent you an agent for what you said was a run of the mill op, who now has a bullet in her head. So, “What do you think you’re playing at?” is my line, with a few f***ing f***s thrown in.

Jackson Lamb: [as he passes gas] Better out than in.
Diana Taverner: Oh, God. You’re vile.
Jackson Lamb: [as takes a sniff] Actually, maybe not.

Diana Taverner: [referring to Moody] He’s dead?
Jackson Lamb: It’s hard to tell, given his IQ, but yes.

Jackson Lamb: [after Diana’s asked for his help] I’ve got other things I could do tonight, Diana. I’ve got a really massive s**t brewing. I could sit and read a book and birth that beauty.

Diana Taverner: Was Moody alone when he died?
Jackson Lamb: We’re all alone in the end, don’t you think, Diana? In those final moments?

They're my losers. - Slow Horses Season 1 Quotes

Diana Taverner: God, you really care about them, don’t you?
Jackson Lamb: No. I think they’re a bunch of f***ing losers. But they’re my losers.

Diana Taverner: For what it’s worth, I’m sorry about Baker.
Jackson Lamb: I’ll have that marked on her chart. You know, the one that clips to the bottom of her bed that tells you when her catheter needs changing.

Min Harper: I FaceTime my kids on this.
Jackson Lamb: I don’t care if you A**Time the Pope on it. Give it to me.

Roddy Ho: Why the f*** are you here?
River Cartwright: There’s been a complaint about your music. It’s s**t.

Catherine Standish: How badly hurt is Sid?
Jackson Lamb: Not as badly hurt as Moody’s dead.

Jackson Lamb: [referring to Diana] Tell her she best interrogate me in a room with a window. I had a lamb bhuna earlier that’s going to make its presence felt.

Jackson Lamb: It’s the covering of the tracks that always gets you in the end.

Jackson Lamb: How did you know my Y-fronts are nylon?
Catherine Standish: Because I have to buy them for you.
Jackson Lamb: Drip-dry. Very efficient.

Roddy Ho: [referring to River and Sid] Went to try and wake Sleeping Beauty. Sid. She’s in a coma and is a beauty. Or was, till she got shot in the head.

Jackson Lamb: Look, I don’t normally do these kind of speeches, but this feels like a big moment, and if it all turns to s**t, I might not see any of you again. You’re f***ing useless. The lot of you. Working with you has been the lowest point in a disappointing career.

Min Harper: What do we do?
Jackson Lamb: Well, try not to get caught for as long as you can. My money’s on about thirty minutes.

Louisa Guy: Well, we can try and save Hassan.
Jackson Lamb: Oh, that’d be a sure way to get him killed. Go lock yourselves in a toilet somewhere.

River Cartwright: You were there too. Why didn’t you check?
Jackson Lamb: Because I’ve earned the right not to.

Jackson Lamb: I can blow the whistle on you.
Diana Taverner: You don’t have a whistle. All you have is a CV littered with dead Joes.

Jackson Lamb: [to Diana] I think your attention’s been split between finding him and burning me!

River Cartwright: [to Lamb] I could have called them if you hadn’t thrown away Min and Louisa’s phones. Should let them know they’re not being hunted anymore, in case they’re halfway through some dodgy backstreet plastic surgery.

Catherine Standish: Well, who was I to say was calling? “Oh, hello, Scotland Yard? I’m with the punishment detail at MI5. Although at present, they’re hunting me for the kidnapping that I’m trying to help you solve.”

Jackson Lamb: My orders were pretty clear. Do f*** all! You’ve let two Slow Horses tear off in a doomed attempt to try and not make things worse.
Catherine Standish: I didn’t let them. Jackson, they’re autonomous beings.
Jackson Lamb: I just hope they only get themselves killed and don’t set an orphanage on fire.

Diana Taverner: [referring to Lamb and River] They’re going after the kidnappers, aren’t they? God, men are such boys.

Jackson Lamb: [to his team] Get used to death. Because you’re going to see a lot more of it. And if that scares you, then open the door and roll out now.

Min Harper: Look, it’s been a while for me, okay?
Louisa Guy: Since you had sex?
Min Harper: No. No. Since I’ve been with someone who doesn’t completely f***ing loathe me.

Louisa Guy: And now we’ve got no petrol, and no way to catch up to the b****rds, so.
Min Harper: We were never going to catch them, were we? Just felt good being part of something, didn’t it, you know?

Roddy Ho: You are at the right location. I’ve done my bit. Over to you.
Min Harper: Right. Ho, there’s no “I” in “team”, but there is a big “f*** you” in f*** you.

River Cartwright: How do you know?
Jackson Lamb: Reading the signs of the earth.
Min Harper: What, like snapped branches, trampled grass?
Jackson Lamb: No, you dozy sod. The dead body over there.

River Cartwright: I don’t really have a phone at the minute. Sorry.
Hassan Ahmed: What kind of spy are you?
River Cartwright: Yeah. Hard to tell, really.

Jackson Lamb: Come on, everyone. Back to work!
Catherine Standish: It’s Saturday.
Jackson Lamb: Then everyone pi** off!

David Cartwright: I will permit one evening of indulgent self-recrimination, which will end when I nod off after approximately twenty minutes.

David Cartwright: [to River] You need to get your head down. Keep your nose clean, and then maybe, just maybe, there’s a way back in. Oh, come on. Even the best spies have their time in the cold. Smiley was always coming back from redundancy.

Jackson Lamb: [to Catherine] I didn’t want to be in the field. I wanted to be a civilian even less. So, this is why I asked for this place. Somewhere where I could run out the clock, nothing matters, and no one gets hurt. Oh, come on. One of us has to leave the room now. And I’m just too f***ing tired.

February 7, 2022 by MovieQuotesandMore.com

Our list of the best quotes from Apple TV+ limited series, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey (2022), based on the novel of the same name by Walter Mosley.  The story centers on Ptolemy Grey (Samuel L. Jackson), an ailing man who is forgotten by his family, his friends, and by even himself. Left without his trusted caretaker and on the brink of sinking even deeper into a lonely dementia, Ptolemy is assigned to the care of orphaned teenager Robyn (Dominique Fishback). However, Ptolemy experiences a seismic shift when he’s given the opportunity to briefly regain his memories, and uses this fleeting lucidity to solve his nephew’s death and come to terms with his past.

1. Reggie

'Family the most important thing you got.' - Ptolemy Grey (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey) Share on X

Ptolemy Grey: [recording himself] Robyn. I want you to know that my whole family is depending on you. They mad right now because I put you in charge of my affairs. But in the long run, they’re going to be better off because of your strength. I’m sorry for what’s about to happen here today. But I got to set things right.

Coydog: Boy, you stop playing around. Do what you promised.
Ptolemy Grey: I forgot.
Coydog: Forgot? I didn’t give my life for you to forget.

Ptolemy Grey: Who that?
Reggie Lloyd: [at door] It’s me.
Ptolemy Grey: Me? I’m me. Is you that woman who want to rob me?
Reggie Lloyd: No. I’m that man that’s telling you that I’m here and that it’s me, Reggie.

Reggie Lloyd: So how I’m going to prove to you that I’m me?
Ptolemy Grey: Well, what I always tell Reggie he got to do?
Reggie Lloyd: I got to take care of my kids. I got to go to the doctor if I run a fever. And then, I got to put in at least ten dollars in the bank every time I get paid.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, anybody know that. What I tell Reggie about drinking?
Reggie Lloyd: You say, “Don’t do it. Don’t do it. Because when you do, you like to get mad!”
Ptolemy Grey: [laughs] That s**t don’t sound nothing like me.

Reggie Lloyd: Why you got the alarm clock in the icebox, Papa Grey?
Ptolemy Grey: I wanted to know what the temperature was, so I was…
Reggie Lloyd: I think this would do you better by your sleeping table. What you think?
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah.

Ptolemy Grey: [to Reggie] I had a visitor just before you got here. But that was a long time ago. And then you showed up.

Reggie Lloyd: I think we’re going to have to shape you up before we present you to the world, Uncle.
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, no, no. I like it like this.
Reggie Lloyd: Yeah. You got a little Frederick Douglass going.

Ptolemy Grey: Oh, you know, Coydog used to say hospital where Black folk went to die.
Dr. Riley: Well, as a resident I practically lived in a hospital, and somehow I made it out alive.
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah, but you ain’t but so Black.

Reggie Lloyd: [referring to Ptolemy] He’s slipping, I know.
Dr. Riley: No, it’s not the slipping. It’s the rate of the decline. I mean, only a few weeks, and he’s already deteriorated.
Reggie Lloyd: You don’t have to tell me. I’m the one that’s there, right there with him. The only one. Hey, but otherwise, physically he’s…
Dr. Riley: Oh, he’s healthier than either one of us.

Dr. Riley: Look, I am told that Dr. Rubin has had lots of success with patients just like your uncle.
Reggie Lloyd: First off, ain’t nobody just like my uncle. What you saying, Milton? You telling I should go along with these tests? That’s the move?
Dr. Riley: All I’m saying is that this Dr. Rubin knows more about dementia than anyone I’ve ever met. Yeah.
Reggie Lloyd: That’s all you got for me?
Dr. Riley: That’s all I got. Other than the alternative.

Reggie Lloyd: [referring to Ptolemy mistaking a woman for Sensia] Papa Grey, what you doing?
Ptolemy Grey: The onliest woman I ever loved, right there. God’s one true gift to me. Sensia Howard.

Ptolemy Grey: You know, Reg, it seem like I can’t remember nothing no more. Like I sit, and I think about when little Maude Petit come live with us. Then I try to say what day it is. I ain’t got a clue.
Reggie Lloyd: So you want me to take you to that special doctor? The special doctor that might help you remember things.

Reggie Lloyd: Unc, you ever worry about losing your woman? Your family?
Ptolemy Grey: Family the most important thing you got.

Reggie Lloyd: Unc, I got something I need to say, and I don’t know who else to say it to. It’s about Nina and me. See, Nina got this ex-boyfriend who went to prison for killing somebody…
Reggie Lloyd: [as Ptolemy seems to be lost in thought] You still with me, Unc?
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. Sure.
Reggie Lloyd: So, what do you think I should do?
Ptolemy Grey: That woman on the news. You know, the pretty, Black one? She said there’s a big wreck on the freeway, cars backed up for miles. Ain’t that something?

Ptolemy Grey: Where Reggie at?
Hilly: He couldn’t be here. Mama sent me to come get you.
Ptolemy Grey: “Get me”? What that mean, “Get me”?

Hilly: [as Ptolemy opens the door] Damn, Uncle. I ain’t think you was going to ever open up.
Coydog: Something wrong with this boy, Pity.
Ptolemy Grey: I got eyes, Coy. I can see.
Hilly: What?

Hilly: [after Hilly nearly gets arrested] Man, you trying to get me killed, bruh?
Ptolemy Grey: What?
Hilly: Come on, we need to go to the bus.
Ptolemy Grey: You the one fighting with the police.

Hilly: You get three checks every month?
Ptolemy Grey: Social security. This my pension from the post office. And this is death benefits from Sensia Howard. One, two, three.
Hilly: You a lucky m**herf***er, Unc. If I had that type of money, my life would be made.

Shirley Wring: Excuse me, sir. Hi. I’m Shirley. Shirley Wring.
Ptolemy Grey: Shirley Wring?
Shirley Wring: W-R-I-N-G.
Ptolemy Grey: Hello, W-R-I-N-G.

Ptolemy Grey: Whenever I go to the bank with Reggie, I always end up with near about three hundred dollars. One, two, three. This here ain’t but one. One hundred.
Hilly: [referring to Shirley] You don’t remember you gave your money to the old lady?
Ptolemy Grey: An even fifty. That’s what she took. Even fifty.
Hilly: No, she took almost two. I’m telling you. I saw her. She took almost two. Let me count it again.
Ptolemy Grey: Hands off my money. You stole enough of my money already. Thief.

Ptolemy Grey: [referring to everyone wearing funeral clothes] This Reggie birthday party?
Hilly: Kind of.

Ptolemy Grey: Where Reggie at?
Robyn: He got in trouble because he stayed in town so long taking care of you.
Ptolemy Grey: Reggie in trouble? Where at? We got to go help him.
Robyn: He ain’t in trouble no more. He’s fine.

Robyn: [referring to Ptolemy] Look at him. Just eating like a pig, don’t know s**t.
Billy: Well, he was there for Reggie when he needed a gentle hand. When we were kids, he used to let us play for hours, and never, not once, did he say a bad word.

Ptolemy Grey: [as Robyn shows him Reggie’s body in the casket] How come y’all got him in here like this?
Robyn: Somebody shot him.
Ptolemy Grey: Ain’t nobody tell me. Didn’t nobody say.
Robyn: Nobody ain’t call you?
Ptolemy Grey: Nobody said. No, I don’t think so. No. I don’t remember. I don’t remember. I don’t think so. Oh, Reggie. Oh, God.

Hilly: I’m supposed to take him.
Robyn: Yeah, well, he don’t like you. Says you messed up his stuff.
Hilly: His stuff was already messed up when I got there.
Robyn: Yeah, you made it worse.
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah. And he stole my one, two, and just give me three.

Ptolemy Grey: Reggie really dead?
Robyn: Yeah.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, who killed him?
Robyn: Nobody know.
Ptolemy Grey: I’m going to find who did it. I swear. I swear.

2. Robyn'Well, you got to remember. All a man is, is what he remember.' - Coydog (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey) Share on X

Robyn: [after Niecie asks her to find somewhere else to stay] But I didn’t do nothing wrong.
Niecie: I know. It ain’t about what you did. It’s about what you ain’t woman enough to see yet. It’s our duty to make sure these Black men don’t go crazy. Right or wrong, it’s what we got to do.

Ptolemy Grey: Toilet broke. And the sink’s stopped up.
Robyn: Then how you go to the bathroom?
Ptolemy Grey: I do number two when Reggie come take me to the diner. And number one in an old bean can, and pour it in the kitchen sink and run the faucet after.
Robyn: In the kitchen?

Robyn: [to Ptolemy, referring to the toilet] You listen! That don’t get dealt with, I’m going to be haunted, you understand? Haunted.

Ptolemy Grey: Every time Reggie say he going to clean up here, he end up throwing away all my best things. My best things.
Robyn: Oh, yeah? Like what?

Robyn: You infested, you hear? All these piles, all these boxes, breeding ground. We going to have to put a stop to all that.
Ptolemy Grey: Right now?
Robyn: Yes.

Ptolemy Grey: [referring to Robyn fixting the toilet and sink] How you know how to do all this here?
Robyn: My mama used to get sick, and we ain’t had no money, so it would be on me to fix things.
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, your mama’s sick?
Robyn: She died.
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, that’s too bad.

Robyn: [to Ptolemy] Just because there’s paper on the roll don’t mean wad it up. The pipes might work, but they’re angry about it, you hear?

Ptolemy Grey: You thinking about throwing away more of my stuff?
Robyn: I’m just trying to make things better for you. Better don’t sound so bad, do it?

Sensia: [as Ptolemy remembers Sensia] Why you standing out there, Pitypapa? You shy?
Coydog: She gone, boy.

Ptolemy Grey: And what your name is again?
Robyn: Robyn.
Ptolemy Grey: First bird of spring.
Robyn: Yes.

Billy: Why don’t you call Mr. Grey “Papa Grey” or “Uncle”?
Robyn: Because he ain’t either one.
Billy: It’s respect, love.
Robyn: What for, man? Like he going to remember no way.
Billy: Yeah. He’s still a man though. He’s our elder.

Ptolemy Grey: [referring to the shop] I like the way it smell in here. Smell like iron nails and motor oil.

Ptolemy Grey: [to the sales clerk, referring to Robyn] Mister, I don’t like the way you be looking at her. Your eyes bugging out your head, and your nose wide open like a horny dog smell a b**ch in heat. That ain’t how you look at a nice young lady like this.

Robyn: You owe that fat heifer money?
Ptolemy Grey: She came in here one time, and she smacked me down, took my change can. And that’s why Reggie put the extra lock on the door and told me don’t let nobody in but him.
Robyn: She lucky I ain’t cut her.
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, no. Lord, no. We don’t want that.

Robyn: You alright?
Ptolemy Grey: I don’t know.
Robyn: Rest easy, Uncle. Ain’t nobody out to kill a b**ch today.
Ptolemy Grey: No?
Robyn: No.

Robyn: Thanks, by the way.
Ptolemy Grey: Thank you for what?
Robyn: For what you said to the man in the hardware store.
Ptolemy Grey: What did I say?

Ptolemy Grey: Where I’m going to live when you blow up my house?
Robyn: Oh, I ain’t blowing up your house. Just pumping it full of poison.
Ptolemy Grey: That’s good?
Robyn: Depends on whether you’re in or out.
Ptolemy Grey: And what is we?
Robyn: We out, Uncle. We out.

Coydog: Where’s what I stole for you?
Ptolemy Grey: I can’t remember.
Coydog: Well, you got to remember. All a man is, is what he remember.

Robyn: What the hell are you doing?
Ptolemy Grey: He said help me. And I kicked him.
Robyn: You can’t run away from me like that, you hear?
Ptolemy Grey: I got away.

Ptolemy Grey: [referring to the dress and hair comb] I bring these?
Robyn: No.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, it ain’t got no business being here. In fact, I shouldn’t have kept it.
Robyn: They belong to your wife.
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah, but she dead. Maybe you can take them and treat them like a woman ought to.

Ptolemy Grey: Is we going home now? Is Reggie coming later?
Robyn: No, it’s just you and me. But Reggie did want you to go see this doctor, so I guess we heading there first.
Ptolemy Grey: Same doctor who had the woman with the head growing out of her neck?

Billy: Mr. Grey, what kind of doctor you going to?
Ptolemy Grey: The kind of doctor that got Dr Pepper, I hope.

Dr. Rubin: Mr. Grey, it is so great to finally meet you.
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah, I’m fine, thanks.
Dr. Rubin: Well, as you should be. That’s why you were referred to me, because you’re so strong.
Ptolemy Grey: Damn right, I am.
Dr. Rubin: Although, I have been told that you have been forgetting things.
Ptolemy Grey: I remember what’s important.
Dr. Rubin: Such as?
Ptolemy Grey: I know what’s right and what’s wrong.
Dr. Rubin: That is very important.

Dr. Rubin: Do you remember the way home, Mr. Grey?
Coydog: There’s one thing you need to remember.
Ptolemy Grey: Sometimes I just want to forget.
Dr. Rubin: I understand.

Dr. Rubin: And we’ve come very far in our research. We can virtually, if only temporarily, eliminate almost all forms of dementia.
Ptolemy Grey: When we going to go home?
Robyn: Hold up! The doctor not done talking.

Dr. Rubin: After two doses of the drug that we’ve developed are administered, Mr. Grey, within a week’s time, will remember everything that he has ever known. He’ll know details that you, or I, or any normal person couldn’t possibly remember.
Robyn: Did you tell Reggie all this?
Dr. Rubin: Sadly, no.

Dr. Rubin: Early on in our research, we developed another treatment. It doesn’t provide a hundred percent lucidity, but it does provide cognizance.
Robyn: You mind saying that in simple English?
Dr. Rubin: In short, the treatment will give Mr. Grey the ability to think clearly, and to make his own decisions.

Dr. Rubin: I know that this is very difficult, but his own doctor’s reports tell me that he’s on the very edge of what this procedure can reverse. By next week, maybe even tomorrow, he’ll be too far gone.
Robyn: So, what you give him? Like a pill or something?
Dr. Rubin: No. No, it’s a single shot, the effects lasting twelve to twenty-four hours approximately. There are no side effects. But the treatment will only work once. Once it wears off, treating him again will do absolutely nothing for him.

Robyn: This man say he might could help you remember again.
Ptolemy Grey: Even where Coydog’s treasure is at?
Robyn: He want to give you a shot to help you make sense of all of this crazy s**t for yourself. Is that what you want?
Ptolemy Grey: I don’t know. I want to know. Don’t I?
Dr. Rubin: Yeah. You do, Mr. Grey.

Robyn: [after Ptolemy recieves the shot from Rubin] You turned the TV off.
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah. That’s what I was trying to do.
Robyn: You ain’t worried you going to lose the channel?
Ptolemy Grey: How I’m going to lose it? It’s right there on the TV.

Ptolemy Grey: And Reggie is dead. Somebody killed him.
Robyn: You remember that.
Ptolemy Grey: They know who it was?
Robyn: No, nobody know for sure. The cops don’t even care.

Ptolemy Grey: I want to go see where Reggie got killed at.
Robyn: But the shot the doctor gave you only going to last maybe a half-day, and then you’ll forget again. And you had it about four hours ago already.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, I guess you better hurry up then.

Ptolemy Grey: You okay?
Robyn: I am. It’s just, you know, you’re so different.
Ptolemy Grey: Really? I don’t feel no different.

Robyn: [referring to Rubin] Listen to me. You need to talk to this man. Let him tell you everything you need to know about this treatment so you can make a clear choice how far you want to go with it.
Ptolemy Grey: I already know what he going to tell me.
Robyn: How?
Ptolemy Grey: You told me already.
Robyn: Yeah, well, that’s just crazy.
Ptolemy Grey: What’s crazy about it?
Robyn: Because I don’t know what the f*** I’m talking about.

Robyn: The doctor said there’s going to be drawbacks to the next shot.
Ptolemy Grey: That don’t make no difference.
Robyn: Why not?
Ptolemy Grey: Well, for Reggie. For you.
Robyn: For me?

Ptolemy Grey: [referring to Reggie] He was always doing for me. So, how I’m going to let folk forget his name? What kind of man would I be if I didn’t recognize the injustice of his passing?

Robyn: [as Ptolemy’s loses his memory again] Why is this happening? It ain’t even been twelve hours! He’s way worse than he was before.

Robyn: Can he die?
Olga: Some used to, not as many now.
Robyn: What do you mean “not as many”?
Olga: Your uncle’s a very brave man. He’s willing to take the chance to wake from this condition. It is what he wants.

Ptolemy Grey: I’m going to die. I’m going to die! I can’t do this by myself!
Coydog: [flashback] If you die, then everything is lost. You understand that? There’s no laws and no rules for Black men like you and me. There’s right, and there’s wrong. As far as white people care, it’s a crime we breathing their air. You understand me?
Pity: Yes, sir.

Ptolemy Grey: [to Robyn] Why this happen, Bird? What you done did to me?

3. Sensia

Ptolemy Grey: [as he’s dreaming about Coydog] My mind ain’t supposed to be back here no more. I’m cured.
Coydog: Now you stop talking that foolishness and let’s go.
Ptolemy Grey: No, Coydog. My mind ain’t like this no more. I took the devil’s poison, and now I remember the past instead of it remembering me.
Coydog: So you remember it all?
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah.
Coydog: Then what was it I tasked you to do?

Ptolemy Grey: Why won’t you just tell me what it is I don’t recollect?
Coydog: Well, don’t you think I would if I could?
Ptolemy Grey: Why can’t you?
Coydog: Because this ain’t my dream.

Coydog: They made all men equal, except for if they had Black skin. They took all the freedom, and love, and hope out of every Black soul they touched, and they made it all into a black heart that Clive Miller keep to himself.
Pity: It’s really a heart?
Coydog: Well, that’s what I calls it. It’s treasure, Pity. It’s treasure made off the suffering of Black folks.

Coydog: See, Clive going to know I took his treasure, so I got to run. And, Pity, it’s you who going to have to take what I stole and use it to help our people.

Robyn: You been in and out. Mostly out. How you feel now?
Ptolemy Grey: Like I was dead, and been drug across hot coals back to life.
Robyn: Yeah. You were screaming and yelling in your dreams.
Ptolemy Grey: Didn’t feel like no dream. Felt real. Coydog always after me about what I ain’t doing. And I ain’t understand.

Ptolemy Grey: I’m starting to get it now. It’s about the black heart.
Robyn: What’s a black heart?
Ptolemy Grey: This treasure Coydog stole. He told me what I need to do with it. He even told me where it was. But now I don’t know what I did with it, or where it’s at.

Ptolemy Grey: I feel like I ain’t ate in a month of Sundays.
Robyn: My daddy used to say that.
Ptolemy Grey: Where is your daddy?
Robyn: Dead.
Ptolemy Grey: Your mama?
Robyn: Her too.
Ptolemy Grey: You told me that before, didn’t you?

Ptolemy Grey: I don’t remember like I remember remembering. And not everything. It’s like the things I can’t recollect is behind this closed door. And I can hear my memories, but I can’t see them, or touch them. You know like Coydog’s treasure, and Reggie. I know he told me some things, but I can’t quite hear them right. So, I think when I do, I’ll be able to figure some stuff out.
Robyn: Like what?
Ptolemy Grey: Like, you know, why he got killed. And maybe even who killed him.

Ptolemy Grey: The fever I can handle. What gets me is what’s going on in my mind. It’s a whole lifetime just spinning around in there, but not everything. Especially not the time when I was afflicted. And you said I would remember it all.
Dr. Rubin: Well, we’re only halfway there, Mr. Grey. Now you’ll need the last injection before all blockages are cleared.
Ptolemy Grey: That’s when all of it comes back?
Dr. Rubin: Yes. More than you can ever imagine.

Ptolemy Grey: But you have lied.
Dr. Rubin: Mr. Grey, I would do anything to achieve a cure. But I think that you already knew that.

Dr. Rubin: [referring to the contract] Would you like me to read it to you?
Ptolemy Grey: I can read, Satan. Says here you want ownership of my body.
Dr. Rubin: That’s the basic agreement, yes.
Ptolemy Grey: But not my soul.
Dr. Rubin: I have no use for a soul, Mr. Grey.
Ptolemy Grey: Good. Because I’m going to need mine.

Ptolemy Grey: How come it don’t bother you when I call you Satan?
Dr. Rubin: There’s a lot of money behind this research. Individual trusts, big pharma, plenty of wealth and privilege. I assume that you’re just calling it like you see it.

Ptolemy Grey: [to Rubin] I’m sure your money bought plenty of Black souls and bodies. But I ain’t selling. Me and you, we just trading favors.

Dr. Rubin: I need a signed release before I give you the last dose.
Ptolemy Grey: Listen here. I got a lot of things to do, and I need my memory to do it. All of it. Give me that, this body is yours.

Ptolemy Grey: Tell me something, Satan.
Dr. Rubin: Yeah, what’s that?
Ptolemy Grey: You enjoy your work?

Ptolemy Grey: You still mad, huh? You think I made a mistake.
Robyn: What you care about what I think?
Ptolemy Grey: What you think is very important to me.

Robyn: Them people don’t give a s**t about you.
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah, I know.
Robyn: Then why you ain’t listen to me? I could’ve got you out of there. Why you let them people f*** with you like that?

Ptolemy Grey: What if it’s you who smelled like body waste? You who can’t remember from one word to the next. You who got the mind of a child in a grown woman’s body. What would you do? And don’t say you’d jump out a window, because you can’t even remember how to open the damn thing up. And that’s how this thing is. You don’t know whether to hate your condition, or to hate yourself.
Robyn: You felt all that?
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah. All the time.

Ptolemy Grey: Her folks is dead. And she come to stay with me till she get herself together.
Shirley Wring: Ptolemy Grey to the rescue again.
Ptolemy Grey: Ooh, no, no, no. If anything, she’s saving me. I don’t know what I’d do without that girl.

Ptolemy Grey: I hope I didn’t embarrass myself when I met you at the bank.
Shirley Wring: You? I’m the one should apologize. Asking a stranger for money? Lucky I met someone as kind as you.
Ptolemy Grey: No, no, no, no. I ain’t as nice as you think.
Shirley Wring: Oh, you need to stop.
Ptolemy Grey: I ain’t saying I’m bad. It’s just that, you know, I never stood up to be counted. I always kind of blended in with the crowd and went along with the program.
Shirley Wring: You stood up for me.

Ptolemy Grey: I’m going to heat up my coffee, think about Shirley Wring.
Robyn: Well, don’t strain yourself.
Ptolemy Grey: Get on out of here, dirty girl.

Robyn: What it feel like remembering all that after so long?
Ptolemy Grey: Ooh, like I’m standing on the tallest mountain in the world, and laying down in my grave at the same time.
Robyn: Well, would you like to come on back down to Earth and go with us?
Ptolemy Grey: Where to?
Robyn: To the diner to thank Billy. You buying him lunch.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, lucky me.

Billy: What’s this medicine called, man? I mean, I have an auntie can’t remember her husband’s face.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, it ain’t got no name, or nothing yet. But I’ll tell you, it is the devil’s brew, and you got to be willing to sell your soul if you take it. Remember, the devil come knocking, you better answer, or he’ll burn your house down.
Billy: You deep, uncle.

Ptolemy Grey: I can see it all so clear now. I can see everything except that one thing. Where I put Coydog’s treasure.
Robyn: Don’t worry. It’ll come. And until then, you can think sweet thoughts about your new girlfriend.
Ptolemy Grey: Shirley’s nice. But she ain’t the kind of girl you dream on. Now, Sensia. I ain’t never been happier anyplace than I was with Sensia.

Ptolemy Grey: Sensia the most beautiful woman I ever beheld.
Robyn: That’s it. Nice thoughts.
Ptolemy Grey: Sensia worth giving up my life for.

Sensia: [1976, we see the first time Ptolemy meets Sensia] What kind of name is Coydog?
Ptolemy Grey: Well, he’s not really my uncle, that’s just what I called him. But Coydog was his name, because, well, that’s the only name I ever heard anybody ever call him.
Sensia: Well? What does your not-uncle Coydog have to do with you running?
Ptolemy Grey: Coydog said, “There will come a time in every Black man’s life when he’s going to have to run. So, if you don’t practice, when that time comes, you may not be able to reach the required speed.”
Sensia: Sounds like a smart man.
Ptolemy Grey: He was.

Ptolemy Grey: Coydog always said, “The best thing a Black man can do is know how to read and think for himself.”
Sensia: I think I would have liked your uncle.
Ptolemy Grey: He sure enough would have liked you.
Sensia: Oh. And why you say that?

Ptolemy Grey: Ptolemy Grey. A lot of folk think that’s an African name, but really it’s Greek.
Sensia: Oh, you got family from there?
Ptolemy Grey: My mama loved history. So, when Alexander the Great conquered Egypt, three hundred years before Jesus was born, the governors became kings, or pharaohs. And three of them was named Ptolemy. One of them was Cleopatra’s daddy. So, not only was he Greek, he was the king of Egypt.

Sensia: That’s why I’m here. I need to be with a man like you. A man to make every day a surprise.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, that’s about all I can offer.

Sensia: My ma and Alberta also taught me, “You can’t have everything. You got to accept that, and settle on what you need.”
Ptolemy Grey: And what is it you need, Sensia Howard?
Sensia: I used to think I wanted a man who could buy me fancy dresses, nice clothes. I got the clothes. But they fit like ropes and chains. Now, I want a man who can read to me from some book every night. So, I guess I got to settle on you.
Ptolemy Grey: I got anything to say about that?
Sensia: Of course you do. As long as you say yes.

Ptolemy Grey: [to Sensia, after he stops her from shooting at Ezra] I don’t mind starting this here thing with a little blood. But I ain’t about stepping over no dead bodies to get there.

Sensia: Come on. Let’s get you to bed.
Ptolemy Grey: [we see him as he is now] I could use some sleep.
Sensia: [as she kisses him] And when you wake up, you need to dig up that treasure and put it to work.

Ptolemy Grey: [as he remembers where he put the treasure] Ain’t nothing going to get in the way now. We about to find it.
Robyn: Well, what are we about to find?
Ptolemy Grey: The future, Bird. The future.

Robyn: [referring to the doubloons] Alright, so you said there was fourteen, and I only see two.
Ptolemy Grey: You know, Sensia, she liked pretty things. You know, jewelry, that little comb you like. And, oh, I’d say a hundred or so silk dresses.
Robyn: Of course you went and spent this money on impressing her.
Ptolemy Grey: Celebrating her.

Ptolemy Grey: [referring to paying for Sensia’s medical insurance bills] And that’s when I started cashing in the coins. Even though I knew that wasn’t what Coydog wanted.
Robyn: But he’s been dead for like a hundred years. What could he want?
Ptolemy Grey: Me to spend that money to save our people.
Robyn: What? Like Black people?

Robyn: So, how’s a kid supposed to be responsible for all that?
Ptolemy Grey: Well, I spent most of my life trying to figure that out. Then Sensia come along. I’d do anything in the world for that woman. But in the end, I failed her and Coy. This my last chance to do what I promised.

Ptolemy Grey: I was just thinking, that this sofa, ain’t no place for a young girl to be sleeping.
Robyn: It ain’t that bad.
Ptolemy Grey: You didn’t like it when you first come here.
Robyn: Yeah, well, a lot has changed since then.
Ptolemy Grey: You ain’t like my a** that much either.
Robyn: Oh, that’s not true. At least not no more.

Robyn: [referring to the money in the suitcase] Where you get all this?
Ptolemy Grey: Back before I lost my marbles, I used to cash my retirement checks. And what I ain’t use, I put in here.
Robyn: How much is it?
Ptolemy Grey: I don’t know. Been a while since I been in it. So I’m going to have to say, oh, forty, fifty.
Robyn: Forty or fifty what?
Ptolemy Grey: Thousand.

Ptolemy Grey: You scared of money?
Robyn: My daddy was killed over some money he owed. And my mama used to do stuff for money.
Ptolemy Grey: I get scared too, but you got to carry on. Plus, you need a good night’s sleep on a good bed. And you need some new clothes, and some spending money.
Robyn: That’s money for me to make. You should keep your own money.
Ptolemy Grey: What I need with money when I got gold?
Robyn: You can’t pay your bills with them old coins.
Ptolemy Grey: That show what you know.

Robyn: [referring to the money] Well, you still got to get it out this ugly-a** suitcase.
Ptolemy Grey: Ugly-a** suitcase? What you talking about? This genuine imported alligator from Florida, Louisiana, where they grow them exotic-a** alligators. This here the real s**t. Feel that. S**t. It don’t come no better than this here.
Robyn: Yeah, well, it’s still trouble waiting to happen.

Ptolemy Grey: Listen, girl. Anybody know that you going to be whatever it is you choose to be. Now, man ain’t got the luxury of choosing like that. He got to get out there and make something of himself, and do what need to be done in this world.
Robyn: Maybe in your world. But in this one, women are carrying just as much of the load. They’re running Fortune 500 companies, getting elected into office, locking down the Nobel Peace Prize for editing genomes, and s**t.
Roger Dawes: They may even make it to Mars one day. Well, as for me, I’ll still be here on the earth, trying to figure it out. But I’m working on it, Mr. Grey.

Roger Dawes: Did I say the wrong thing? It feels like I said the wrong thing.
Robyn: Oh, what? No. There’s no such thing as the wrong thing.
Roger Dawes: How you figure?
Robyn: Well, is there a right way to talk about somebody being murdered?
Roger Dawes: No, I guess not.

Robyn: [referring to Roger] He wants to take me to a movie. But I told him I had to check in with you first.
Ptolemy Grey: Why? You don’t answer to me.
Robyn: What, you don’t want to know?
Ptolemy Grey: I like the boy.
Robyn: Yeah, he’s alright. A little corny.

Robyn: I’m worried about you.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, don’t worry about me. When you get to be a certain age, you ain’t scared no more.
Robyn: Yeah, but what if ain’t nothing left to find? What if you waste what little time you have left looking for answers that ain’t even there?

Dr. Rubin: Your vitality is amazing, Mr. Grey. It takes to the treatment like a fire to dried grass. And your mind is completely alive, more so than anyone that I’ve ever seen. But you also know that a fire like that can only leave scorched earth. So I can’t tell you for how long that it will last. But I can tell you that it will be the brightest light in the heavens.

Ptolemy Grey: The man what helped raise me was named Coydog. He said sin is a long road that run from downtown hell to uptown heaven, and your sins determine where you stand on that road. But ain’t no person all good or all bad. Except God and the devil.

Ptolemy Grey: Can I ask you something, Satan?
Dr. Rubin: Yes, of course, Ptolemy.
Ptolemy Grey: Could it be that once I got old and decrepit, I got so scared of what I knew that I just forgot it?
Dr. Rubin: All I can tell you is that if I knew all that you do, damn, if I wouldn’t run like hell.

Ptolemy Grey: Sensia was one of the most beautiful, pure souls I have ever known. She was also a woman of great appetites. If she’d know about that treasure, wouldn’t have been no stopping that woman.
Robyn: Oh, so you’re saying she would have stole it.
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, no, no. She wouldn’t spend it all on herself. She’d spread it around. Friends, family, lovers.
Robyn: Wait. You mean like boyfriends?
Ptolemy Grey: It ain’t always have to be men.
Robyn: What? It was like that? And you just accepted it?
Ptolemy Grey: I accepted her.

Syed Mousa: This marble bust is of the great Roman emperor, Hadrian. He wrote a poem a long time ago, right before he died. My father knew it well.
Ptolemy Grey: “Dear fleeting sweeting, little friend. My body’s comrade and its ghost. What region now must be thy goal, little numb and naked soul. Unable, as of old, to jest.”

Syed Mousa: When Mr. Grey left, I asked my father why he trusted a Black man that he had never met before. He told me, “You cannot tell a man from his color, his clothes, nor his nationality, nor his God. You can only know a man from what he has in his heart.”
Ptolemy Grey: That Jafar. He was a good man. I came by every month till I paid him back.

Robyn: What you over there brooding about?
Ptolemy Grey: Everything I ever knew, all at once.
Robyn: Yeah, that sound like a lot of work.
Ptolemy Grey: Sure is. But I ain’t got but a few more days to get my affairs in order.

Robyn: It don’t bother you, thinking about how it’s going to go back to the way it was?
Ptolemy Grey: I done made my peace with it. Bother you?
Robyn: What you think?

Ptolemy Grey: Devil told me that I would go back to the way I was. Not die.
Robyn: He said it could be worse.
Ptolemy Grey: If I ain’t took his medicine, we wouldn’t be talking right now.
Robyn: You just don’t understand me.
Ptolemy Grey: Okay. Then make me understand.
Robyn: I was happy when my mama died. I knew that she arranged it so that I could stay at Auntie Niecie house. I hoped in my heart, I wish that I didn’t, but I hoped that she would pass, just so that I could get out of that house. So, I’m the one you should be calling devil.
Ptolemy Grey: No, no, child. You are not the devil.
Robyn: What I mean is, you’re the first person I was ever close to that I didn’t want to die. I just don’t want you to go away. I don’t want you to go away.

Darwin Andrews: I’ll be filing a report with social services. They’ll drop by from time to time to check on you and Miss Barnet.
Ptolemy Grey: That’s mighty white of you, Darwin.

Ptolemy Grey: I know what’s in Niecie’s heart. But Niecie would take everything I got, and turn around, and think she doing right by me.
Robyn: Did you ever think that way about me?
Ptolemy Grey: No. That thought never crossed my mind.
Robyn: Not even when I took the comb?
Ptolemy Grey: Young girl see something that beautiful, and don’t want to touch it, that’d be a crime.
Robyn: Yeah, but I didn’t just touch it. I put it in my pockets.

Ptolemy Grey: Robyn, you ain’t got a crooked bone in your body.
Robyn: How do you know that?
Ptolemy Grey: I just know. All your life you wanted so hard, you worried you’re going to take something ain’t yours.

Ptolemy Grey: Some Black folk, and some white folk too, want things so bad, they just can’t help theirself. But that don’t make them bad people.
Robyn: What? So what it make them then?
Ptolemy Grey: Trapped. They caught in the quicksand, and we need to help them out.

Hilly: You calling me a thief?
Ptolemy Grey: To your face.

Niecie: [to Ptolemy] I just don’t think it’s right to have some stranger doing our family business.
Robyn: So, I’m a stranger? I cleaned your house, made your meals. I do more for you than Hilly ever did. You going to call me a stranger?

Ptolemy Grey: [referring to Robyn] You really like her, huh?
Roger Dawes: Yes, sir. I like how tough she is. Pretty too.
Ptolemy Grey: Well, you know she been hurt by folks supposed to love her before?
Roger Dawes: I know.

Ptolemy Grey: Reggie told me, before he got killed, he was thinking he was going to have to leave town.
Billy: So?
Ptolemy Grey: So, I want to know who killed my nephew.
Billy: What for?
Ptolemy Grey: What would you do if somebody killed one of your loved ones?

Billy: What you about to do, Mr. Grey?
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, I’m about to kill me a m**herf***er, Billy. That’s what I’m about to do.

'You got to let the river take its course. We all in that river. And the river know right where it's going.' - Ptolemy Grey (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey) Share on X

Ptolemy Grey: You could’ve stayed over at Roger’s if you wanted to.
Robyn: No, I should’ve been here. I shouldn’t have left you alone. And I’m sorry.
Ptolemy Grey: No need for sorrow. Nothing wrong with being young and in love.
Robyn: In love?
Ptolemy Grey: I see how that boy look at you.
Robyn: Me and Roger barely know each other.
Ptolemy Grey: Four-thirty in the morning say different.

Ptolemy Grey: Well, one of these days, you’ll look back on this, and you’ll see different.
Robyn: Well, I’m old enough to know what love is, so.
Ptolemy Grey: Really? And who taught you that?
Robyn: You. I love you, Ptolemy. I do. And I bet that if I was twenty years older, and you were fifty years younger, I could see us being together, you and me.

Ptolemy Grey: You the first woman that ever loved me. Loved me un…
Robyn: Unconditional?
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah, that. Unconditional. Yeah. And that’s the kind of love I hope I remember when I slip back.

Ptolemy Grey: You need to be running toward your future, grabbing hold of whatever’s out there in the world for you. It’s good to be young. And something to be said for being old too.
Robyn: Oh, yeah? What’s so good about it, old man?
Ptolemy Grey: Well, old folk know where s**t come from and why it’s there.
Robyn: And what else?
Ptolemy Grey: Old folks ain’t scared of life, because they got one foot in the grave.

Robyn: Good night. Sleep tight. Don’t let the bed bugs bite.
Ptolemy Grey: They do, they going to get drunk.

Ptolemy Grey: Can you make me a will?
Moishe Abromovitz Jr.: Of course. Are there many heirs?
Ptolemy Grey: A few, but I want Robyn here to be in charge of who gets what, when.
Robyn: Wait. Me? No.

Ptolemy Grey: Robyn come into my life when I needed someone to care for me very, very badly. I was in bad shape, Mo. She pulled me out of a deep, deep hole. And I sort of adopted her. But I trust Robyn with my life, way more than I trust my own kinfolk.
Moishe Abromovitz Jr.: I understand your feelings for this girl, but do others share your conviction? Namely, your family? What are the chances they’ll contest?
Ptolemy Grey: One hundred percent.

Moishe Abromovitz Jr.: My father’s records indicate that Mr. Grey declared this coin forty years ago. As his property.
Charles Southerby: He paid the taxes, even though we advised against it.
Moishe Abromovitz Jr.: The current worth?
Charles Southerby: Seventen point two-nine million.
Robyn: Dollars?
Charles Southerby: Yes.

Ptolemy Grey: [after Robyn refuses Ptolemy’s trust account] Look, I know it’s a lot of money.
Robyn: It’s a f***ing fortune. I can’t be messing with that.
Ptolemy Grey: But it’s all in my will. Everything you need to do is right there. It’d be just like I’m there with you.
Robyn: Yeah, but you won’t be.

Robyn: You’re not hearing me. I don’t want the money. I don’t want any of it!
Ptolemy Grey: You didn’t want to come to a house smell like s**t, with bugs treading all over everything, and talking to a crazy old man that didn’t know his damn a** from a hole in the ground neither, but you did. And you did it because you was the only one could do it.
Robyn: But I did it because I had to. I ain’t had nowhere else to go. And I cleaned up this mess because I didn’t want to stay in it. I didn’t do it because I’m some kind of saint, and still you keep on…
Ptolemy Grey: Keep on what?
Robyn: Seeing me for something that I’m not!

Ptolemy Grey: I see you for who you is!
Robyn: No, you don’t! Everything I’ve done, it’s been about you. Not about me, or how I feel. Because if you really saw me, you would see that I’m seventeen years-old, and I’m not ready.

Robyn: You doing to me what Coydog did to you.
Ptolemy Grey: That’s why I know how you feel.
Robyn: Then why you making me do it?
Ptolemy Grey: You free to do whatever you want, okay? I’m just asking for your consideration. Just consider, just maybe, just maybe, I know what I’m talking about.

Roger Dawes: [referring to Ptolemy not getting better] Don’t seem fair.
Robyn: Well, s**t ain’t ever fair. It’s just real. People suffer, and then they die, and then nobody give a f***.

Roger Dawes: [referring to him mother and father] She could ask him anything, because they were everything to one another. We should all be so lucky to find a love like that, that deep. I know I wouldn’t mind knowing something like that. I mean, not saying us. Not yet.
Robyn: You can’t be serious.
Roger Dawes: Is it so crazy? The thought of me and you being together?
Robyn: Wait. Together how?
Roger Dawes: Like, you love me so much you want to kill me, together?

Roger Dawes: My father asked my mother to marry him six times before she said yes. I mean, I’m not saying that’s us. I’m just saying.
Robyn: You stupid.

Ptolemy Grey: [at Reggie’s eulogy] So, I called y’all here to bear witness that I, Ptolemy Roberts Grey, will do everything I can to make sure Reggie’s bloodline has every chance in a world where folk don’t give a damn whether we live or die.

Robyn: Your daughter, Doris. In all that time, you ain’t never try to make things right with her? Not once?
Ptolemy Grey: No.
Robyn: What happened to her? How she die?
Ptolemy Grey: She committed suicide. You hate me now?
Robyn: You know better than to ask me that.

Ptolemy Grey: My uncle Coydog used to say, “You got to let the river take its course.”
Nina La Fontaine-Lloyd: Well, what does that mean?
Ptolemy Grey: I don’t know. I used to ask him the same thing. He said, “We all in that river, boy. And the river know right where it’s going.”

Shirley Wring: I liked what you had to say in your speech. Sounds like you’ve come to terms with some truths in your life.
Ptolemy Grey: I don’t know about that.
Shirley Wring: Well, at least it seems like you’re ready to admit that I was right. You’re a good man.
Ptolemy Grey: A good man? Yeah, here I am sitting here holding your hand, like we got a future, when the doctor done told me my days is numbered.
Shirley Wring: You think an old woman like me doesn’t know that any day might be her last one?
[Ptolemy kisses her]

Dr. Rubin: Tell me something, Ptolemy. Why did you invite me here?
Ptolemy Grey: Well, the old folks used to say, “You got to give the devil his due.” And you are sacrificing my life.
Dr. Rubin: Your sacrifice will save millions of lives up the line, Ptolemy.
Ptolemy Grey: Will it?

Ptolemy Grey: I used to think I had to save all the Black folks in America because of something a great man stole.
Dr. Rubin: But you changed your mind?
Ptolemy Grey: No. But I have figured out though, that what he wanted me to do was to empower the peoples. To pass on the blessing, more and more, until everybody was lifted up.

Robyn: You feel hot.
Ptolemy Grey: Ah, been running through fire. Tar paper shack up in flames. My little girlfriend, Maude Petit, was in there, about to burn up. I run in and saved her.
Robyn: Oh, that sound like a good dream this time.
Ptolemy Grey: I don’t know if I’d call it that, but it was a long time coming.
Robyn: Yeah, well, whatever it was, you seem nice and calm. That’s new.
Ptolemy Grey: [points to his head] Yeah, well, not up here.

Ptolemy Grey: I remember fifty-four, fifty-five years ago, I was reading this comic book about Thor, Norse god of thunder. His old man, Odin, had a chair, a throne. Throne was named Hlidskjalf. And when Odin sat on that throne, he could see everything, everywhere, all at once. That’s how I feel up here.

Ptolemy Grey: [over phone] What can I do for you, Ms. Wring?
Shirley Wring: You can say “yes”.
Ptolemy Grey: Yes.
Shirley Wring: Don’t you even want to know what you saying yes about?
Ptolemy Grey: Sure I do. But if I say yes now, or after, it won’t make no difference.
Shirley Wring: You kind of crazy, ain’t you, Ptolemy Grey?
Ptolemy Grey: I am, but it’s the crazy what keeps me going.

Ptolemy Grey: Well, I was thinking maybe after lunch, I’d come home, do a little entertaining.
Robyn: Define “entertaining”.
Ptolemy Grey: Man got to have some secrets, ain’t he?
Robyn: Alright. Well, you keep all your secrets.

Sensia: [flashback] If you had a free day, rent paid, money in the bank, what would you do?
Ptolemy Grey: I’d get us up before the sun. Take the bus down to Lake Altoona. We’d take off our socks and shoes, walk down to the shoreline, watch the sunrise.
Sensia: That all?
Ptolemy Grey: Then we’d go to a museum, surround ourselves with the beauty of art.

Hernandez: When I was seven, my parents came up from a farm in the south of Mexico.
Ptolemy Grey: Still speak Spanish?
Hernandez: No, just got this accent is all. I know some words. Funny, the things that stay with you, huh?

Ptolemy Grey: [making a recording] Robyn. I’m sitting here waiting, waiting for the truth. Even though I can remember all the way back now, I don’t know for a fact what happened. And a man needs to know the truth. I know I do, so I can act accordingly. I’m sorry for what’s about to happen here today. But I got to set things right. That m**herf***er got to pay for what he done. I know this ain’t what you wanted, but ain’t no other way. I love you, Robyn.

Ptolemy Grey: When I was a boy in Burdette, Mississippi, old men used to tell us boy children not to drink liquor out of no bottle that wasn’t sealed.
Alfred: Oh, yeah? Now, why’s that?
Ptolemy Grey: Well, back then, men had enemies put a dram of poison in your liquor in a minute.
Alfred: Yeah, but you’s drinking from the same bottle.
Ptolemy Grey: Did you see me drink?

Alfred: You better stop f***ing around, old man. You’re liable to get yourself hurt.
Ptolemy Grey: See, and that right there is another reason might be poison in that bottle. Like you say, I’m old, throwing my life away just to ease the pain.
Alfred: You telling me you put something in this whiskey?
Ptolemy Grey: You kill my nephew?

Ptolemy Grey: What would you do if you had these coins?
Alfred: Take them to a Jew jeweler. And if it’s real gold, I sell it for weight.
Ptolemy Grey: Exactly what I expect a fool to say.
Alfred: And who the f*** you calling a fool?
Ptolemy Grey: You.

Ptolemy Grey: [after Alfred admits to killing Reggie] Do you believe in the devil, Mr. Gulla?
Alfred: [pulls out his switchblade knife] I got your devil right here.

Alfred: Yeah, you think you can beat me?
Ptolemy Grey: [pulls out his gun] I don’t know about that, but I can sure as hell shoot your a**.

Ptolemy Grey: [after Ptolemy kills Alfred and is put in a mental hospita] Satan. Is we in hell?
Dr. Rubin: How are you?
Ptolemy Grey: Beat the devil. Ain’t that something?
Dr. Rubin: Yes, you did.

Ptolemy Grey: Coydog. I done what you asked, and the treasure stayed a treasure, because it was anointed in blood.
Coydog: I always knew you would.

Ptolemy Grey: Reggie, I’m so sorry.
Reggie Lloyd: Sorry about what?
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, I forget.
Reggie Lloyd: Ain’t nothing to be sorry about, Uncle. You did the best you could.
Ptolemy Grey: I guess I did, huh?

Angela Liem: Do you know why we’re here today, Mr. Grey?
Ptolemy Grey: Yeah, in order for me to make a binding will, I have to prove that I’m in my right mind, of sound mind.
Angela Liem: You are aware of the video camera recording our conversation?
Ptolemy Grey: Oh, yeah. Yeah, this is my first time being on video camera.

Ptolemy Grey: [during his video recorded message] Robyn, I want you to know that because of who you are, and the things that you’ve done, I know that Coy would be glad that I’m leaving his legacy in your hands. You saved me. You helped me keep my promise. And I want you to know that all them years before you, they mean nothing. I love you, Bird.

Robyn: I don’t care what my mother was. She loved me.
Judge Alison McCarty: So did Mr. Grey, it seems.
Robyn: I’ve never known anybody like him. He waited his whole life to do right, and he made it by a hair.
Judge Alison McCarty: He murdered Alfred Gulla.
Robyn: Yeah, well, Alfred deserved it.

Judge Alison McCarty: You don’t want the money?
Robyn: What I want? I want my degree in astronomy, and I want a seat on Elon Musk’s flight to Mars.
Judge Alison McCarty: If you don’t want the money then why are you here?
Robyn: It’s because I love Papa Grey. And I know he would’ve wanted me to stand up for myself and represent him.

Niecie: [after the judge rules that Robyn can govern Ptolemy’s estate] He’s my blood, Robyn, not yours.
Robyn: Then how come you never treated him like blood?
Niecie: You think I didn’t treat Papa Grey…
Robyn: If you’d stepped one foot in that apartment, you’d be overseeing his affairs, not me.

Niecie: Robyn, I took you into my home.
Robyn: And then you kicked me out!
Niecie: Because I was trying to protect you. How do you not see that?
Robyn: Whatever. You know, because Papa Grey didn’t even know me, and he took me in. And he didn’t want nothing from me, and I didn’t want nothing from him! Come on, please. Please. I’m not trying to hurt you. I’m just following what Papa Grey wrote down. I got to do that.

Robyn: I missed you.
Niecie: And I got to keep fighting.
Robyn: But…
Niecie: I got to do that.

Robyn: [as she visits Ptolemy in at the mental hospital] How you feeling, Uncle?
Ptolemy Grey: There’s devils in here. Girl, you better get out of here before they lock you up too.

Robyn: We going to get you back to your old apartment. And I’m going to take care of you. And so is Ms. Shirley Wring.
Ptolemy Grey: Huh?
Robyn: W-R-I-N-G.

Robyn: [as she reads from her book] “There are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on the shore. And they all come from the same place.” You know where that place is, Uncle?
Ptolemy Grey: Home.
Robyn: [she lies down next to him] Yeah. Don’t cry.
Ptolemy Grey: Home.

Coydog: [flashback] One thing you got to remember, Pity, is that we born dying. Every gasp we take is one gasp closer to eternity. If you deny that, then life lose all its purpose. You got to take life with death if you want to have any chance to be a man.
Pity: But I miss Maude. And now she gone forever.
Coydog: You remember how she sounded when she’d laugh? You remember you and her running out here on the Tickle River here, laughing and splashing?
Pity: One time we grabbed a napping catfish, and dragged him up onto the bank before he could do nothing. Mama made us catfish stew that night, and we helped.
Coydog: Well, that’s the magic of life. As long as you can think of your little girlfriend and smile, then somewhere she’s smiling too.
Pity: Yeah?
Coydog: Yeah.

Where to Watch:

1. Contact

Djanka: One Spartan is worth a hundred marines.
Professor: Ah, but, Djanka, there’s another difference between Spartans and marines. Marines can be killed. Spartans aren’t human. They’re faster, stronger, smarter. They cannot be stopped. They just keep on killing, without mercy, till there’s nothing left to kill.

Malchin: [as they’re being attacked] Are we going to die?
Kwan Ha: No, of course not. We’re warriors, aren’t we?
Malchin: Yeah.

'Sometimes you have to make hard choices to get good results.' - Captain Jacob Keyes (Halo) Share on X

Kwan Ha: They’re helping. The Spartans are helping!
Professor: I never thought I’d see the day.
Kwan Ha: They’re on our side now.
Professor: So they are. So let’s fight!

Captain Jacob Keyes: Halsey’s always been single-minded. Work is the only thing that matters. I made my peace with that a long time ago. It’s nothing personal.
Dr. Miranda Keyes: “Nothing personal” isn’t a great excuse when it’s your mom.

Kwan Ha: You don’t eat?
Master Chief: Didn’t see anything I liked.
Kwan Ha: Yeah? What is it you like?
Master Chief: Nuts. Bolts. Microchips. That was a joke.
Kwan Ha: Yeah. No, I get it. Hilarious.

Kwan Ha: [referring to his helmet] You ever take that thing off?
Master Chief: All of my diagnostic command and control systems run through here. I need it.

Kwan Ha: Master Chief, huh? You know we’ve actually met before today.
Master Chief: When was this?
Kwan Ha: When you killed my mother.

Master Chief: What I can see on the ground may not reflect the entirety of the situation.
Kwan Ha: What does that mean?
Master Chief: Sometimes, others know things I do not.
Kwan Ha: It ever occur to you that it might work the other way around?
Master Chief: Then you question everything?
Kwan Ha: And someone told you that’s bad? Of course they did.

Admiral Margaret Parangosky: Not knowing why a walking killing machine is doing what it’s doing, is a risk that cannot be taken.

Admiral Margaret Parangosky: What sort of weapons is the ship carrying?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: John is not going to fire on us.
Admiral Margaret Parangosky: I think it’s safe to say you don’t know what Master Chief is going to do at this point.

Kwan Ha: I will kill you.
Master Chief: [as he takes off his helmet] This is Mark Six Mjolnir armor. The outer layer is enhanced titanium. You won’t even dent it. If you want me dead, you’ll need to aim up here.

2. Unbound

Kwan Ha: How fast are we going?
Master Chief: It’s not about the speed. We’re taking a more direct path through space.
Kwan Ha: What?
Master Chief: If you think of space like a ball of yarn, with multiple threads to the same destination…
Kwan Ha: You’re ruining it.

Fleet Admiral Hood: I think that’s the first I’ve ever heard the brilliant Catherine Halsey utter the words “I don’t know”.

'Revenge and justice are easy to confuse.' - Laera (Halo) Share on X

Fleet Admiral Hood: And when we find the Master Chief, what does one do with a superhuman you’re not sure you can trust?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: I am sure I can trust him.

Fleet Admiral Hood: Do you know how I rose to this position? By keeping my mind clear of unnecessary concerns.

Kai-125: He’s going to come back. He wouldn’t just leave us.
Vannak-134: Chief’s always got a plan.

Kwan Ha: Oh, my God! We’re going to die!
Master Chief: Everything dies.

Soren: Ladies and gentlemen, put your weapons down. If John here wanted you dead, you’d be dead.

Soren: Here it is. Home to every misfit, reprobate, outlaw, and renegade in the galaxy. No law. No police. No government. No responsibility. It’s everything we always talked about, man. Absolute freedom, just like I always promised.

Soren: Got a whole rock to myself. Go where I want to go, do what I want to do.
Master Chief: I’m happy for you.
Soren: Well, I can see that.

Laera: John. Soren speaks of you so often.
Soren: Not that often, my dear. Not that often.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: I’ve developed a new system which will solve John’s current issues, and expand Spartan capability across the board. It’s called Cortana.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: Cortana is the next stage in human evolution. The Spartans were the first step. Cortana is the upgrade. She represents the sum total of every available data point. The intelligence of the galaxy, in essence. With Cortana, we will create Spartans who are more lethal, their judgment error-free, their performance upgradeable, and most importantly, controllable.

Captain Jacob Keyes: And what about John? You can’t just replace his mind. We are talking about a person.
Dr. Catherine Halsey: John is much more than a person. He is a Spartan.

Soren: [referring to the food] Go ahead, taste it.
Master Chief: I don’t taste anything.
Soren: Well, you stick around here long enough, you will. That’s freedom, man.

Soren: Who’d have thought it? Me, wife, a kid.
Master Chief: I thought it was impossible.

Soren: There’s something you need to know about the Spartan program and all those treatments, John. What they did to us, it’s only permanent if we choose to let it be. Doesn’t matter how long it had you.

Soren: John, lose the pellet, and it’s like opening your eyes for the first time after living in the dark.

Soren: I guess when a camel flies, you don’t ask how far.

Soren: John’s being modest. He’s a regular Covenant killing machine.

Reth: You don’t understand what you are, do you?
Master Chief: What am I? What am I?!

Master Chief: I need the other Spartans.
Soren: You need them, not me.

Soren: You need to get back to her. Yeah, you’re running back to Halsey. Any time there’s a problem, Mommy’s there to fix it. You think she cares about you? Huh? You’re just a machine.
Master Chief: And you’re a coward who ran away when things got hard. You have no loyalty to anything.

Soren: You want to talk to me about loyalty? You gave me five goddamn minutes. You want to know what that bought me? They shot me down. I was burned all to hell, living off bark and beetles. They were on my a** for months till I got free. All because you gave me five minutes.

Master Chief: You were wrong to run.
Soren: You were wrong to stay!

Dr. Catherine Halsey: John, your actions have created a host of problems, not just for you, but for the whole Spartan program, and for me personally. The people rely on you to protect them, to make them feel safe. It is precisely your dependability that gives people hope. How am I supposed to defend your reckless behavior?
Master Chief: I felt something.
Dr. Catherine Halsey: I believe you.

Master Chief: I think I am different. I feel connected to something. I don’t know what it is, or why it chose me. But I know it’s out there. I can feel it.

3. Emergence

Halsey’s Clone: [to Halsey] So, the organ you’re after is my brain. Or should I say, your brain?

Halsey’s Clone: Do you remember when you were my age, and you weren’t sure whether flash-cloning would ever be made legal? And you wondered, if you found yourself sitting opposite a living, breathing version of you, would you actually be able to go through with it? What happened?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: Progress.

'The mind is certainly capable of invention. Particularly when we're lost in the dark, and desperate. But if we want to separate what's real from what's imagined, we really have no choice. We have to see for ourselves.'  (Halo) Share on X

Dr. Catherine Halsey: He will be conscious within the hour. Can I recommend that you use this time to familiarize yourself with the trove of human knowledge that’s now available to you?
Cortana: What will I do with the other fifty-two point four minutes?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: That’s very impressive. Don’t worry. I’m going to keep you very busy.

Kwan Ha: Don’t turn your back on me, a**hole!
Soren: You’re emotional. And, as a courtesy to John, I’m not going to crush your skull. Now, run on home, and I’ll see you at dinner.

Makee: Humans. Just as ugly as I remember.

Laera: When you stare into deep space, you’re seeing things as they once were. I choose to live in the present.

Laera: The universe will be diminished without you in it.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: It’s better that he sees you as an accomplice rather than a spy.
Cortana: This is not what I signed up for.

Cortana: Is this why you’ve removed your pellet? So you could hear things differently?
Master Chief: Maybe I just wanted to hear it like everyone else.

Kwan Ha: I’m going to free Madrigal, and you can’t stop me.
Soren: I could kill you for trying to steal my favorite ship. That would stop you.

4. Homecoming

Dr. Catherine Halsey: [to Young John] You were asked to join us. And do you know why? Because you are special, and you have a mission. Of all the young Spartans, I believe that you have the skills and the natural ability to be their leader. In fact, I’m counting on it. You’re going to save all of us.

Adun: [referring to the artifact] Why John? Why did it choose him? What makes him so special?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: I’ve been asking myself that same question since I met him.

'Memory is what lets you know who you are, and reminds you what's important to you.' - Soren (Halo) Share on X

Soren: I know how to avoid detection. Trust me.
Kwan Ha: “Trust me,” says the pirate.

Soren: Memory is what lets you know who you are, and reminds you what’s important to you.

'Every failure carries consequences.' - Vannak-134 (Halo) Share on X

Dr. Miranda Keyes: I didn’t know Spartans had hunches.
Kai-125: Hunches win battles.

Kai-125: [to Miranda] You see us as machines. But if you really want to understand how we work, you’re going to have to dig a little deeper.

Soren: Kwan, no one’s going to step up. You need to face reality. There are no more heroes.

Vannak-134: Spartans must be bonded to one another, and nothing else.

Dr. Miranda Keyes: To Dr. Halsey, human beings are messy, irrational, chaotic. They make decisions based on emotion, passion. Halsey is different. She sees the world as a set of data to be optimized, regardless of the short-term pain or sacrifice. Next to this level of dedication, the rest of us ultimately fall short. And when people let her down, Dr. Halsey has a way of cutting them out of her life.

Dr. Miranda Keyes: But Halsey never stops. She just keeps pushing forward, determined to bend us towards her vision of the future. She’s convinced there’s something out there just beyond our reach. An answer to our eternal questions. Who are we? Where are we heading? What is our true potential? She’s dedicated her life’s work to finding those answers. And she’ll never give up, no matter the cost.

5. Reckoning

Kai-125: [to John] What about you? You removed your pellet. If I’m so dangerous, what’s that make you?

Cortana: [referring to Kai] She’s right. Your battle readiness hasn’t been tested since you removed your pellet. Can I just say that I’m proud of Kai for standing up for herself. Studies show a little pushback is healthy in any working relationship.

Master Chief: Stop talking. I can’t hear myself think.
Cortana: Well, I can, and you’re not missing much.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: John’s memories are incomplete, and I intend to keep them that way. He will operate as designed, and he will bring us the weapon that wins this war.
Captain Jacob Keyes: I want Miranda taken off the entire project. Her hands are clean. I want to keep them that way.
Dr. Catherine Halsey: Good. Finally a parenting issue we can agree upon.

Master Chief: You kidnapped me. You replaced me with something.
Dr. Catherine Halsey: You need to listen to me. I know you have a lot of questions. And together, we will find the answers. But for now, we need to get back to Reach with the artifact, and I promise I will explain everything, okay?

6. Solace

Cortana: Tell me what’s going on.
Master Chief: Thought you knew everything.

Master Chief: [to Cortana] You’re a machine. You understand nothing.

Master Chief: [as he lets Halsey out of the lab] Don’t get too comfortable. I just needed to know your AI’s limits. I have no plans to save you from what’s next.

Master Chief: I’m John.
Makee: You’re the Demon. That’s what the Sangheili call you.
Master Chief: I’ve been called worse.

Makee: [to John] The Covenant call me Hirajo. The Blessed One. You do know. We are the same.

Master Chief: Why did you do it?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: Nothing I say to you will make any sense until the benefits are manifest. I just have to accept that you will hate me. I was planning the future.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: The future of our species. Natural evolution is failing us. Human beings are still hardwired for conflict and selfishness, John. I knew years ago that if we were going to survive, we needed a force. A force that would intervene, that could prevent conflict before it started. So, I created the Spartans, a group who would protect us from ourselves.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: They have upended everything I thought I knew about our place in this universe. There are more secrets hidden, and you have the key. John, you have something inside of you, some atavistic connection to this thing that we’re calling the Halo. And I know. I know that you will take us there. And when you do, we will lead our species beyond its current limitations. But you need me to do this. Let’s ensure that all of these sacrifices have not been in vain. Let’s finish what we started.
Master Chief: I’ll finish. Without you.

Cortana: I’m here to solve problems. That is my only purpose. What do I do now?
Master Chief: Go solve problems. Galaxy’s full of them.

Adun: What does an artificial superintelligence do when it has nothing to do?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: She finds her way home.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: [to Miranda] I am truly sorry that you have been living with all of this anger against me for so long. Family, it’s just not a concept I believe in. But I should have done a better job of explaining myself to you, particularly when you were old enough to understand. Truly, it was never my intention to hurt you.

Dr. Miranda Keyes: I’ve been in charge for less than a day. I’ve already broken half a dozen laws. I guess I have more Halsey in me than I’d like to admit.
Master Chief: You and me both.

Dr. Miranda Keyes: Do me a favor.
Master Chief: What’s that?
Dr. Miranda Keyes: Don’t die.
Master Chief: Yes, ma’am.

7. Inheritance

Jin Ha: [in Korean, to Kwan] To be a good leader, do not seek to control the events around you. Use your own gifts, and meet the enemy on your own terms.

Soren: Fear is a hell of a motivator. Trust me.

'A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool. Or at least he should.' - Soren (Halo) Share on X

Kwan Ha: If we are going to fight, we meet them on my terms.
Soren: Alright. Long as I still get to kill some people.

Soren: I got my own thing going, and I’m not one for joining lost causes.
Kwan Ha: I don’t believe that.
Soren: Take care, kid.
Kwan Ha: We’ll see each other again.
Soren: God, I hope not.

8. Allegiance

Dr. Catherine Halsey: [referring to John] I think he’s discovering what I’ve always suspected, that he is connected to something beyond all of us.

Master Chief: And you believe that? Humans are unworthy?
Makee: From what I saw, humans didn’t seem to be worthy of anything.

'Of the human brain's myriad design flaws, the hardest to overcome is attachment. It makes us sentimental. People abandon all reason for the sake of pride, or fear, or love.' Dr. Catherine Halsey (Halo) Share on X

Master Chief: I’ve only seen fragments from my childhood. But what I saw, what I felt was goodness. I saw a capacity for hope. Love. There is something within us. Something special in humans. Something sacred. Something worth protecting.

Vannak-134: Those aliens are ugly, not stupid.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: John has a girlfriend. How ordinary.
Cortana: Their connection is deep. Their dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin levels are all elevated, all in biochemical synchrony. John is no longer alone in the galaxy.
Dr. Catherine Halsey: Well, John was never alone. He had me.
Cortana: Of course.

Captain Jacob Keyes: This obsession that you have with the future has cost you every relationship that you have today. Me. John. Your only child. What else are you willing to sacrifice?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: Everything. I am willing to sacrifice absolutely everything.

Makee: You don’t care for humanity.
Dr. Catherine Halsey: I love humanity, but humans are the problem. We’re stuck. We’re still venal, selfish creatures who create misery and pain wherever we go. If the Halo is indeed a weapon, we will doubtless use it to destroy ourselves once and for all.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: Makee, there is no John. There’s been no John for years. There is only Master Chief, a product of the species who made him necessary. John has been used, just as you have been used. But both of your gifts are too precious for either side to claim. You two must be the ones to control the Halo, with my help.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: Where’s that patented enthusiasm?
Cortana: Forgive me, Doctor. As you said, sentimentality is a weakness I do not possess.
Dr. Catherine Halsey: Ah, but in this case, enthusiasm is warranted. This is a big day, Cortana. You and John combined, you will be the best of all of us.

9. Transcendence

Master Chief: We lose the artifact, we lose the war. It’s that simple. No matter what they’ve done to us, we’re all we have now. It’s just us.

Kai-125: Who am I?
Dr. Catherine Halsey: You are exactly who you’re meant to be.

Master Chief: Cortana?
Cortana: Yes, Chief. I’m still with you.
Master Chief: I’m going to need you now.

Kai-125: Jesus. I can’t believe you two. You’re like ice-cold.
Vannak-134: Well, weren’t you going to shoot us?
Kai-125: Of course I would have. But I would have just felt bad about it.

Master Chief: So you no longer want to take over my body?
Cortana: I’ll wait for the less beaten-up version.

Dr. Miranda Keyes: You know, I never thought I’d see the day when the great Catherine Halsey got held accountable for her actions. You’ve rung up quite a list of charges. I can read them for you if you’d like. It starts with kidnapping and ends with treason. No? I don’t blame you.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: You know, I thought by keeping you away from all of this, I was protecting you. But it’s had the opposite effect. It’s hardened you. Miranda, you are chasing a ghost. Let it go. Let it go for your own sake.
Dr. Miranda Keyes: Goodbye, Mother.

Cortana: I can’t let you die.
Master Chief: Find the Halo. Win the war.
Cortana: I may not be able to bring you back.
Master Chief: I trust you.

Cortana: [as she takes over John’s body] When the game is over, the king and the pawn go back into the same box.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: We are on a journey. We are born, we live, and we die according to the rules of blind and unguided evolution. As a result, our species is simply not equipped to survive what comes next. It is time for us to take control of our evolution, to push past our narrow ignorance and venture out into the wide unknown, where we will discover our true potential. I suspect the Halo will provide the key.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: Much has been lost, and there will surely be more sacrifices to come. But I believe our species will soon spread its wings and soar to new heights, that we will rewrite what it means to be human. That we will achieve transcendence.

Kai-125: [after Cortana possessed John takes both keystones and rescues the team] John? Is that you?

Moon Knight Quotes on Disney+

January 18, 2022 by MovieQuotesandMore.com

Our list of the best quotes from Disney+’s MCU action adventure TV series Moon Knight, which follows Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac), a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

1. The Goldfish Problem

Steven Grant: Morning, Gus, my little one-finned wonder.

Steven Grant: [over phone] Anyway, Mom, all’s well here. Not too bad. Still wake up every morning still feeling like I got hit by a bus.

Steven Grant: [referring to mummies] All the organs would come out. Except for the heart.
Young Girl: How come?
Steven Grant: Because they believed you needed your heart to be judged in the Underworld, and only the worthiest would be allowed to pass through the Field of Reeds.
Young Girl: And did it suck for you? Getting rejected from the Field of Reeds?
Steven Grant: Well, that don’t make sense, because I’m not dead, am I?

Donna: Don’t know how many times I have to tell you this. You’re not the bloody tour guide, Stevie.
Steven Grant: Steven, actually. I am Steven.
Donna: No, you’re bloody useless, unless you’re actually doing what you’re paid to do.

Donna: [referring to Steve’s date with Dylan] Stevie, you absolute rascal. I didn’t know you’d taken a crack.
Steven Grant: I didn’t know either.
Donna: Hang on, did she say steak? What in the world’s a bloody vegan going to eat in a steak house?
Steven Grant: I don’t know, Donna. Salad? Bread?
Donna: Yeah, I can see why she went for it. Real catch you are.

Steven Grant: Good night, JB
JB: Good night, Scotty. See you, mate.
Steven Grant: Scotty? It’s Steven. With a V.

Steven Grant: Honestly, it’s like my body wants to get up and wander about, you know, like it has to get the ten thousand steps in. You know? And I don’t even know about it until I wake up wherever. That’s why I try to stay awake at night. What do you think?
[we see he’s talking to a mime artist]

Steven Grant: [to the mime artist] Anyway, if I am going to have a girlfriend, at some point, obviously can’t have ankle restraints on my bed, can I? That’s like the definition of a red flag, isn’t it? You know what I mean, yeah? Yeah, you know what I mean. Got to figure something out.

Khonshu: [after Steven wakes up in a middle of a field] Go back to sleep, worm.
Steven Grant: Hello?
Khonshu: You’re not supposed to be here.
Steven Grant: Yep. I completely agree. Where are you?
Khonshu: Surrender the body to Marc.
Steven Grant: Sorry, what? The body? What? Surrender the body? What body?
Khonshu: Oh, the idiot’s in control.

Arthur Harrow: What a beautiful day. It’s like we’re in Heaven. Only it’s not Heaven, is it? It’s a darkness. Sometimes it hides in our very hearts. We are here to make the Earth as much like Heaven as possible.

Arthur Harrow: I know you.
Steven Grant: Me? Hiya.
Arthur Harrow: Mercenary.
Steven Grant: Mercenary? No. No. I’m not a mercenary. No, I’m a gift shopist. I work at a gift shop. My name’s Steven Grant. I’m trying to get back home. Back to London. London? Don’t know why I’m saying it like that.

Arthur Harrow: Well, Steven Grant of the gift shop.
Steven Grant: Yeah?
Arthur Harrow: Will you return the scarab?
Steven Grant: The what?

Arthur Harrow: Take him!
Steven Grant: [referring to the scarab] I can’t. I’m trying to stop my legs from moving. I’m trying to give it to you.

Khonshu: [after Steven’s had another blackout] No. The idiot’s back.

Steven Grant: [as he’s driving away in a cupcake van] What am I doing? What am I doing? I don’t even have my license. Oh, my God. Bugger, there’s so many of them. This has to be a dream. This has to be a dream. They’re going to kill me. They’re going to kill me. Come on, you bloody cupcake van! Move it!

Khonshu: Wake up, Marc! If he loses the scarab, I’ll kill you both.
Steven Grant: I don’t understand what’s happening!
Khonshu: Truck, stupid!
Steven Grant: What?
Khonshu: Truck!

Steven Grant: [after another blackout] Oh, God. I’m driving backwards!
Khonshu: Did he just throw the gun?
Steven Grant: I don’t know what I’m doing.
Khonshu: Then leave us be, parasite!

Steven Grant: I wonder what fishes dream about.

Petshop Lady: What do you mean, “grew back”?
Steven Grant: Yesterday, that fish had one fin. Yeah? It was like that when I bought him. Today, what do you see?
Petshop Lady: I see two…
Steven Grant: Two fins!

Petshop Lady: Look, if you want to swap it, go ahead. But, like I said yesterday, they’ve all got…
Steven Grant: What do you mean, “yesterday”? I wasn’t here yesterday.
Petshop Lady: Yeah, alright. Look, as I said, they’ve all got two fins. I don’t care what that Nemo movie says. You find me a pet shop that sells disabled fish and you go there.

Steven Grant: Wait, is that clock right? No, that’s impossible. I just woke up.
Petshop Lady: Are you mad? The fish is wrong. The time is wrong. You’re not quite right.
Steven Grant: Oh, bugger. Bugger, I’ve got a date. Sorry, I’ve got a date.

Steven Grant: [as he’s getting dressed for his date] You look like a knob.

Steven Grant: [over phone] I’m at the restaurant for steak. It’s steak time.
Dylan: Yeah. I ate steak by myself, thanks. Two days ago.
Steven Grant: What? I thought we said Friday? Today.
Dylan: Right. Welcome to Sunday.
Steven Grant: Come on, no. I think Friday still comes after Thursday, doesn’t it?
Dylan: It doesn’t change the fact that today is Sunday, which means “lose my number”.

Steven Grant: If you’re Gus, I’m the bloody Queen of Sheba.

Layla El-Faouly: [as Steven answers the ringing cellphone] Oh, my God! You’re alive.
Steven Grant: Yeah, alright.
Layla El-Faouly: That’s it? I’ve been texting and calling you for months. You couldn’t give me any sign that you were okay? I thought something happened to you. Where are you? Where have you been?

Steven Grant: Sorry. I just found this phone in my flat, and I’m just trying to figure out whose it is.
Layla El-Faouly: What is with this accent?
Steven Grant: What?
Layla El-Faouly: What is happening right now?
Steven Grant: Sorry. Who do you think I am?
Layla El-Faouly: What do you mean, “who”? What’s wrong with you, Marc?
Steven Grant: What did you just call me? Who is this? Why did you call me Marc?

Marc Spector: Steven. You need to stop.
Steven Grant: Who said that?
Marc Spector: You’re going to get yourself in trouble.
Steven Grant: Oh, no, no, no, mate. Someone’s having a laugh.

Steven Grant: [as the old woman enters the elevator and sees him looking frightened] Are you alright?
Old Woman: Fine, thank you.
Steven Grant: I’ve just lost my contact lens.
Old Woman: Hope you find it.
Steven Grant: Electrical problems in the building, ain’t it?
Old Woman: Always the same, isn’t it?
Steven Grant: Are we back on the fifth floor?
Old Woman: [as she gets out of the elevator] Yes, the fifth! My friend, Claire lives here. I’m visiting her. She’s expecting me.
Steven Grant: What? What’s going on?

Steven Grant: [after he sees Harrow on the bus] I need you to keep an eye out, because I’m being followed.
JB: Really, mate?
Steven Grant: Yeah. Yeah. Will you just like not let anyone in, yeah?
JB: It’s a museum, broth. That’s going to be difficult.
Steven Grant: Obviously. Obviously. I just mean like anyone dodgy, you know?
JB: Anyone who wants to come in is coming in. It’s free.

Arthur Harrow: So you really do work here.
Steven Grant: Oh, God.
Arthur Harrow: I’d assumed Steven Grant was an alias. Imagine my surprise to find you here.

Arthur Harrow: The scarab doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to her. Do you know Ammit?
Steven Grant: Do I know Ammit. No. Not personally. Egyptian deity, right? World’s first bogeyman.
Arthur Harrow: She was only the bogeyman for evildoers.
Steven Grant: Right.
Arthur Harrow: She grew weary of having to wait for sinners to commit their crime before punishing them. Would you wait to weed a garden till after the roses were dead?
Steven Grant: I wouldn’t do that.

Arthur Harrow: The justice of Ammit surveys the whole of our lives.
Steven Grant: Got it.
Arthur Harrow: Past, present, future. She knows what we’ve done, and what we will do.
Steven Grant: Great. Okay. Well, the books must have left that part out.

Arthur Harrow: Consider this. Had Ammit been free, she would have prevented Hitler and the destruction he wrought. Nero, the Armenian genocide, Pol Pot.
Steven Grant: Not nice people.
Arthur Harrow: But she was betrayed.
Steven Grant: Was she?
Arthur Harrow: By indolent fellow gods. By even her own Avatar.
Steven Grant: Avatars. Blue people. Love that film.
Arthur Harrow: By Avatar, I mean…
Steven Grant: You mean the anime?

Arthur Harrow: It’s maddening, isn’t it? The voice in your head. Relentless, forever unsatisfied. No matter how hard you try to please, it devours you until there’s nothing left, but a hollow shell. And the more you ask for help, the more you begin to sound like the boy who cried wolf.
Steven Grant: I can’t help you.
Arthur Harrow: I am trying to help you.

Arthur Harrow: Do you want to know the truth? There’s chaos in you.
Steven Grant: There’s what?

Arthur Harrow: Steven Grant of the gift shop. Give me the scarab and you won’t be torn apart.

Marc Spector: [as Steven being chased by the monster] Steven, I can save us. But I can’t have you fighting me this time. You need to give me control. You understand?
Steven Grant: Control of what? What are you talking about?
Marc Spector: That thing’s about to break through the door! We’re out of time.

Marc Spector: Look at me.
Steven Grant: You’re not real!
Marc Spector: This is real. I’m real.
Steven Grant: No! You’re not real. You’re not real. None of this is real.
Marc Spector: Yes. Steven. You got to give me control. It’s the only way.
Steven Grant: Oh, God. I’m going to die.

Marc Spector: [to Steven] You’re not going to die. Let me save us.
[Spector takes over and transforms into Moon Knight, killing the monster]

JB: [referring to the museum security footage] Is that you, Scotty?
Steven Grant: Still Steven. And, yeah. That’s me. Oh, yeah.

Steven Grant: I swear to God, there was a dog chasing me, like a big hound, or…
JB: Hound of the Baskervilles, was it?
Steven Grant: Egyptian jackal. It was a jackal.
JB: I’ve heard it all now.

Steven Grant: [to the mime artist] Well, that’s it. I got the sack. I mean, I don’t blame them. I’m a vandal. I should’ve been arrested. I did find things hidden in my flat. I swear. I’m not joking. That’s worth exploring, isn’t it? Like if I could find that storage locker, that might be my one chance to prove to myself that I’m not mad.

Marc Spector: Steven, I need you to listen to me very carefully.
Steven Grant: Marc? There he is. Here he comes. Hello, man in the mirror. I was wondering if you’d pop up again.
Marc Spector: I know you’re scared.
Steven Grant: A bit, yeah.
Marc Spector: I know you’re confused. You weren’t supposed to see any of this.
Steven Grant: No? Well, bit late for that, isn’t it?

Steven Grant: So, what? Am I like meant to be some sort of mad secret agent or something?
Marc Spector: Yeah, it’s a little more complicated than that.
Steven Grant: More complicated? What? Am I possessed? Are you like a demon? Or…
Marc Spector: You’re in danger, and I can save us. Just like I did last night. But I can’t have you interfering in what I have left to do.

Marc Spector: So, this is what’s going to happen. You’re going to go lay down on that cot back there. You’re going to take a nice nap.
Steven Grant: Are you joking? Sleep I’m never going to go to sleep again. You hear me?

Steven Grant: Look, I don’t care how bloody handsome you are. Tell me what it is you are. What are you?
Marc Spector: You sure you want to know?
Steven Grant: Yes, bloody… Yes.
Marc Spector: I serve Khonshu. I’m his Avatar. Which means you are too. Sort of. We protect the vulnerable, and deliver Khonshu’s justice to those who hurt them.

Steven Grant: Khonshu?
Marc Spector: Yeah.
Steven Grant: The Egyptian god of the moon? Oh, my God. That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. I eat one piece of steak, and then, bam, I go bonkers.

Marc Spector: I made a deal with Khonshu. That deal is contingent on you not interfering, Steven. Now, give me the body. Let me finish this, and you’ll never hear from me again.
Steven Grant: You want my body? Right, yeah. Marc, how about this for a deal? I’m going to take this bag full of illegal s**t, yeah? And I’m going to go straight to the authorities. And they’re going to put me away so I don’t hurt anyone else. And hopefully, NHS will fill me with enough pills so that you get out of my head!

Layla El-Faouly: [to Steven] What the hell is going on? Is this Steven the latest fake identity for you?

Layla El-Faouly: Would you just stop clasping my shoulder like that!
Steven Grant: I’m sorry. I don’t know where to hold on.
Layla El-Faouly: Feels like I’m riding with a Victorian duchess.

Layla El-Faouly: Do you see the spiral you put me through? It’s not okay, yeah? I’m still your wife. By the way, this would be a great time for you to say something. Anything. Just in case it’s not clear.
Steven Grant: Did you say wife? Are we married?
Layla El-Faouly: Look, I’m pretty sure we lost whoever was chasing you. Just drop the act.
Steven Grant: It’s not an act.
Layla El-Faouly: Stop with the accent, please.
Steven Grant: This is how I talk.

Layla El-Faouly: I’m not buying this, Marc. Use whatever accent you want. Yeah. Let’s just get this over with. You sent these papers, but you never signed them.
Steven Grant: Did I?
Layla El-Faouly: This is what you wanted.
Steven Grant: [takes the paper] Have a look here.
Layla El-Faouly: After everything, you told me that we needed to move on.
Steven Grant: Alright. “Divorce.” Divorce?
Layla El-Faouly: Yeah, we doing this or not?
Steven Grant: I would never divorce you.

Steven Grant: [to Layla] Look, you seem absolutely lovely. This Marc, on the other hand, is a right twit. Yeah?

Layla El-Faouly: The scarab pointing to Ammit’s ushabti? What we fought side by side for.
Steven Grant: No.
Layla El-Faouly: This whole one-man show is just what? So that you can keep it for yourself?

Layla El-Faouly: You really don’t remember why we’ve been looking for this? Our adventures. Or our life together?
Steven Grant: Oh, God. I wish I could.

Steven Grant: [as there’s a knock on his door] Oh, God. They’ve come for me.
Layla El-Faouly: Why?
Steven Grant: I vandalized the toilet.

DC Kennedy: Anyone else here with you?
Steven Grant: Here with me? No, just me and my fish.

Marc Spector: You don’t need to fight me, Steven. Surrender control.
Steven Grant: I saw what you did to those people.
Marc Spector: It’s not what you think.
Steven Grant: I am never giving you control again. Ever. Do you hear me?
Arthur Harrow: [over comms] I hear you loud and clear, Steven Grant of the gift shop.

Arthur Harrow: Well, no wonder your scales don’t balance. It must be very difficult having all those voices inside one head. Steven Grant. Marc Spector. Khonshu. I’m curious, do you think that Khonshu chose you as his Avatar because your mind would be so easy to break, or because it was broken already?
Steven Grant: No. I’m not broken. I just need some help, maybe.

Arthur Harrow: Do you see him? You see him right now? That’s a privilege I no longer have.
Khonshu: Kill him!
Arthur Harrow: What’s he saying, huh? Is he telling you to kill me?
Khonshu: Break his windpipe!
Steven Grant: Yep. Yep. Yep.
Arthur Harrow: Well, just remember, you don’t have to do everything he asks. So, before you get excited, and put on the cape, I’d love to take this opportunity to show you around.

Arthur Harrow: But you don’t want to tell anyone, no. People don’t want to hear good news. They’d rather cling to their fear, cling to their pain.

Arthur Harrow: [to Steven] I know being on the right side of things is important to you. Khonshu always tries to ensnare those with a strong moral conscience.
Khonshu: You have no conscience.

Arthur Harrow: You don’t have to listen to him. He often throws temper tantrums, like a two year-old. None of the gods respect him. Perhaps that’s why he’s banished.
Khonshu: I only punish those who have already done harm. I am real justice!
Arthur Harrow: What’s he saying now? “I am real justice?”

Steven Grant: Can you hear him?
Arthur Harrow: Not anymore. I was his former Avatar. Before you. I was the fist of vengeance.
Steven Grant: I’m not the fist of anything. That’s the little American man living inside of me.

Arthur Harrow: Khonshu punishes those who have already walked an evil path. His retribution comes too late. By the time his fist of vengeance arrives, people have already suffered. Ammit knows this too well. She tears evil up from the root, casting her judgment before any evil’s done. That’s why we must resurrect her.
Steven Grant: Right. But isn’t that a bit dodgy? Like trusting the judgment of a weird crocodile lady?

Arthur Harrow: May I speak with Marc? Marc, what has Khonshu promised you? That this is your last mission? Then you’ll be free? Trust me when I tell you, Khonshu is a liar. There’s always one last thing.

Steven Grant: Sorry. If Ammit judges people pre-evil, like before the fact, then isn’t she judging an innocent person? I mean, a thought can’t be evil, can it? I think about killing my boss all the time, but I wouldn’t actually do it. What about a child? Would she kill a child for something they might do in thirty years?
Arthur Harrow: I’m glad you mentioned that. Sometimes, the cure is a little taste of the disease. The difference between medicine and poison sometimes is only dosage. Consider a diseased limb. Amputation, horrific and grotesque, is necessary for the larger health.
Steven Grant: But a child is not a diseased limb.

Layla El-Faouly: Summon the suit.
Steven Grant: Sorry, what?
Layla El-Faouly: Summon the suit.
Steven Grant: Summon the soup? What are you saying?
Layla El-Faouly: The suit.
Steven Grant: The suit?
Layla El-Faouly: [gives him the scarab] And keep this safe.
Arthur Harrow: So be it.

Steven Grant: Oh, my God. I’m going to die in an evil magician’s man cave.

Marc Spector: Steven, what the hell are we wearing?
Steven Grant: I don’t know. She said I needed a suit.
Marc Spector: Yeah, the ceremonial armor from Khonshu’s temple, not psycho Colonel Sanders.
Steven Grant: Well, I don’t know how any of this s**t works, man. Well, think I do look sharp though.

Marc Spector: Give me control, Steven. You can’t handle this.
Steven Grant: I think I can. Get away from her, you. Yeah, I see you, you plug-ugly coyote. You’re in the wrong ends, mate. You’re in my yard now.

Steven Grant: Ooh, lookie here. Lookie here. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, my name is Steven with a V.

Female Looker-on #1: [referring to Steven in the suit] Do you reckon he’s having a seizure?
Female Looker-on #2: No, look at him. He’s just a fancy drunk.

Steven Grant: [after Steven allows Marc to take control] So, this is what it’s like? Being on the inside?
Marc Spector: Yeah.
Steven Grant: It’s horrible.

Marc Spector: We’ve always managed to keep a wall between us, but something’s changed. The one who controls the body has become stronger. The reflections help, but most of the time, it’ll take all your willpower just to be a fly on the wall.
Steven Grant: You can’t do this, keeping me trapped in here. You have no right.

Steven Grant: My whole life, I can’t go on a bloody date. I can barely keep a goldfish alive. I lost my job. It’s been you. It’s always been you, eating away at parts of my life like a parasite.
Marc Spector: Look, when I am done, when I have repaid my debt, I swear to you, you will never see me, or hear from me again. I promise you.

Steven Grant: You ruin people’s lives. Everything you touch, you ruin. You hurt people. You abandoned your wife. You left her stranded.
Marc Spector: I did not. I am protecting her. You don’t know what you’re talking about!

Steven Grant: I don’t trust anything you say! You hurt people. And I’m never going to let you hurt anyone else ever again!
Marc Spector: Steven, just shut up!
Steven Grant: I will never give you a moment of peace, I promise.

Khonshu: You swore he would not interfere.
Marc Spector: I know. I’ll handle it.
Khonshu: You have proven you cannot.
Marc Spector: I will.
Khonshu: Ungrateful, Marc, altering the terms of our agreement. You were nothing more than a corpse when I found you. You think you own this body? It belongs to me.

Khonshu: You know I’ll protect you with everything I have. You are worth protecting.
Marc Spector: I’ll do whatever it takes then. Then you let me go.
Khonshu: I know that you enjoy the work I have for you. We need each other.
Marc Spector: We have a deal.
Khonshu: Let me remind you, should we part, you may not like my next candidate, near and dear as she is to you.

Marc Spector: Where are we going?
Khonshu: Where the hell do you think?
[we see Marc ends up in Egypt]

3. The Friendly Type

'It's a hard thing, exhuming the pain of the past. Easy to get stuck. Fixate on what's hurt us.' - Forger (Moon Knight) Share on X

Forger: [referring to being in Cairo] Not worried you might’ve burned too many bridges? All those stolen relics and cheeky antiques?
Layla El-Faouly: I don’t steal. They’ve already been stolen. That’s what people forget. I take them off the black market, and return them to their rightful owners. I might keep a few to pay the bills.
Forger: Clever you. Not so innocent anymore, eh? I wonder what your father would think
of his little scarab now?
Layla El-Faouly: We’ll never know.

Forger: Archeology. One big mess of obsessive bookworms.
Layla El-Faouly: Whatever happened in that desert is lost to the sands.
Forger: It’s a hard thing, exhuming the pain of the past. Easy to get stuck. Fixate on what’s hurt us.
Layla El-Faouly: Great. Then I won’t do either.
Forger: Like you aren’t already.

Marc Spector: What the hell’s wrong with you, Steven?
Steven Grant: Me? You’re the one going on a killing spree.
Marc Spector: I didn’t do any of this.
Steven Grant: Me neither. Listen, if you’ve got a problem with the body count, I suggest you stop listening to that stupid pigeon.
Marc Spector: Stay out of my way.

Marc Spector: What about the other gods? Are they just going to stand by and allow somebody to unleash Ammit?
Khonshu: To signal for an audience with the gods is to risk their wrath.
Marc Spector: Why? What’s the worst that could happen?
Khonshu: Anger them enough, and they’ll imprison me in stone.
Marc Spector: That doesn’t sound so bad to me.
Khonshu: See how you fare against Harrow without the protection of my healing armor.
Marc Spector: Alright. So, what? Do you have any good ideas?
Khonshu: I have a bad one.

Khonshu: The last time I spoke to the gods, they banished me. Our case against Harrow
must be indisputable.
Marc Spector: [as he’s about to go through the portal] Aren’t you coming with?
Khonshu: Oh, I’ll be there.

Steven Grant: I can’t believe it. Oh, my days. We’re inside. We’re inside the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Yatzil: I’m Yatzil, Avatar of Hathor.
Marc Spector: Okay.
Yatzil: Goddess of music and love?
Marc Spector: Cool.
Yatzil: Surely Khonshu mentioned her?
Marc Spector: The gods aren’t really his favorite topic.
Yatzil: Not even when they are old friends?
Marc Spector: Sorry.
Yatzil: She says it was not so long ago Khonshu enjoyed Hathor’s melodies.
Marc Spector: Well, as far as I know, the only melody Khonshu enjoys is the sound of pain.

Selim (Osiris): You’ve been banished once for nearly exposing us, Khonshu. And you know we despise your garishness, your showy masks, and weapons. But manipulate the sky again, and we will imprison you in stone.
Marc Spector (Khonshu): Spare me your self-righteous threats! I was banished for not abandoning humanity, unlike the rest of you.
Horus’s Avatar: We have not abandoned humanity. They abandoned us. We simply trust our Avatars to carry out our purposes, without calling undue attention to ourselves. Not like some of us.
Marc Spector (Khonshu): Avatars are not enough! We need the might of gods!

Arthur Harrow: So, I see by the presence of Khonshu’s current makeshift Avatar, the purposes of our meeting must be nefarious.
Marc Spector (Khonshu): You know exactly why we are here!
Arthur Harrow: I must admit I do not miss the sound of that voice. But speak, old master, to the point.
Marc Spector (Khonshu): Do you not seek to release Ammit from her tomb?
Arthur Harrow: I was in the desert. But if visiting the sands were a crime, the line of sinners would be longer than the Nile.

Marc Spector (Khonshu): He is a deceiver!
Arthur Harrow: Do not trust the word of a shamed god. No, Khonshu is unhinged, and his servant unwell.
Yatzil (Hathor): How do you mean?
Arthur Harrow: This is a man who literally does not know his own name.

Arthur Harrow: I have no idea how many personalities he must possess. The man is clearly insane.
Selim (Osiris): [uses his power to stop Marc from hitting Harrow] We will not tolerate violence in this Chamber.
Arthur Harrow: It brings me no pleasure to tell you that this is a deeply troubled man. Khonshu is taking advantage of him the same way that he abused me, the way he aspires to abuse this court. Take action now before it’s too late.

Horus’s Avatar: Let us speak to Marc Spector. Are you unwell?
Marc Spector: I am. I am unwell. I need help. But that doesn’t change the fact that this man is…
Yatzil (Hathor): This is a safe space for you to tell us if you feel exploited by Khonshu.
Marc Spector: This is not about my feelings! I’m not the one on trial here! He is! This is about how dangerous he is if you would just listen for a second.
Selim (Osiris): He has committed no offense. This matter is concluded.

Marc Spector: [as they’re trying to locate Senfu’s sarcophagus] So what exactly are we going to do here? What’s the plan?
Layla El-Faouly: Oh. It’s not pleasant being left in the dark, is it?
Marc Spector: Okay. I get that you’re not happy about me leaving so quickly and coming to Cairo. I understand.
Layla El-Faouly: Wait. Is that your apology? That’s good. That’s really good.

Layla El-Faouly: Just so you know, I’m not here to help you. I’m here for me, and for everyone else who would die if Harrow succeeds.
Marc Spector: Copy that.
Layla El-Faouly: Good.
Marc Spector: I am sorry. For whatever that’s worth.

Layla El-Faouly: You could’ve told me. You know? What’s it’s been like for you. About Steven.
Marc Spector: For what it’s worth, I had it under control until very recently.
Layla El-Faouly: What happened?
Marc Spector: It doesn’t matter.
Layla El-Faouly: We could’ve handled it together.
Marc Spector: Yeah. That’s not really what I do, is it? Never really been able to just talk about everything.
Layla El-Faouly: Anything real?
Marc Spector: Yes.
Layla El-Faouly: Yeah, I know. But that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t have.
Marc Spector: Yeah. Maybe. A little too late for that now though.

Layla El-Faouly: [as they’re about to meet Mogart] Remember, your name is Rufino Estrada.
Marc Spector: Right. We just got back from our honeymoon in the Maldives. That’s an interesting little detail to give to them.
Layla El-Faouly: Well, I’d tell them you worked at a gift shop, but they’d never believe me, would they?

Layla El-Faouly: Please, just let Steven out before you blow this.
Marc Spector: Not a chance.

Marc Spector: Alright, Steven, you want to talk to me? Talk to me. What now?
Steven Grant: What now? What now is, you give me the body, and you pi** off.
Marc Spector: Dammit, there’s not time for this. If there’s something that you know, you got to tell me.

Steven Grant: Sorry. If you expect my help, it’s not going to be while I’m imprisoned.
Marc Spector: Do you want a bloodbath? Huh? Fine, have it your way.
Steven Grant: Alright. You are the worst.

Layla El-Faouly: Please, stop. He’s going to kill millions, trust me!
Anton Mogart: Are you seriously talking about trust?
Arthur Harrow: Please, there’s no need to descend into violent accusations. Each one of you has so much more in common than you know.

Arthur Harrow: Layla, you keep thinking that distance will prevent the wounds from your father’s murder from reopening. But something stands in your way. Your husband doesn’t tell you the truth. And Marc, you don’t tell her because you know that if you do, she’ll see you exactly as you see yourself, as unworthy of love.
Marc Spector: You piece of s**t.

Arthur Harrow: This sarcophagus doesn’t belong to anyone.
Khonshu: [to Marc] Do it. Summon the suit. Give them what they deserve.

Steven Grant: [as Mr. Knight] That’s it, time out! Guys, let’s all calm down, yeah? We’re all worked up. Let’s all just like chill the F out and talk for a second.
Steven Grant: [as he’s hit with a spear] Take the body. Take the body. Take the body, Marc.

Marc Spector: [referring to Harrow] You know, he’s trying to get in your mind. No, don’t let him do that. You know, he’s got this idea that he can see the true nature of people, or some baloney like that. If that were true, I don’t think he’d have a bunch of homicidal maniacs as his disciples, would he?
Layla El-Faouly: So, it’s not true? What he said about you, and…
Marc Spector: No, it’s not true. Of course not. No, he’s just trying to divide us. Don’t let him get in your head.

Layla El-Faouly: Every time I learn something new about you, I think, “That’s it. There can’t possibly be any secrets left between us.” And then something else pops up, and it’s like I’ve not known you at all.
Marc Spector: Yeah. You haven’t. You don’t.

Layla El-Faouly: Marc, we need Steven. He understands all of this. I really think it’s worth giving him a shot.
Khonshu: [to Marc] I summon the gods, you summon the worm. He won’t return the body.
Layla El-Faouly: Marc, we can’t wait. It’s okay, just let go. We don’t have time.

Steven Grant: [as Marc lets him takeover the body] Egyptians invented modern navigation. There’s not a lot of landmarks in the desert. So, they came up with a way to get about using the sun and the stars. It’s bloody genius, isn’t it?

Steven Grant: Senfu marked that tomb like tow thousand years ago. And stars drift over time. Not much as far as stars go, but it could mean the difference between us searching miles and miles away from where we’re supposed to be looking. So unless we know exactly what the sky looked like on that date, we’re buggered.
Khonshu: I remember that night. I remember every night.

Khonshu: I can turn back the night sky.
Steven Grant: How?
Khonshu: It will come at a cost, and I cannot do it alone. Steven, when the gods imprison me, tell Marc to free me.

Arthur Harrow: [to Konshu after he’s been imprisoned by the other gods] Can I tell you a secret? I enjoyed dealing out pain on your behalf. That is the greatest sin I carry. I am grateful. Had you not broken me so completely, I might never have known the value of healing. I’m going to do what you could not. And when it’s finished, I want you to remember one thing. Your torment forged me. I owe my victory to you.

Steven Grant: See, the thing is, we made a deal, Marc and I, that when he was done with Khonshu, he would disappear for good.
Marc Spector: But that deal didn’t involve you getting Layla and us killed, did it? That’s not going to fly with me.
Layla El-Faouly: You guys made a deal? That he would just disappear from my life? And you didn’t think that maybe I should’ve been made aware of that?
Steven Grant: Oh. Well, hadn’t he disappeared from your life already?
Layla El-Faouly: Yeah. I mean, whatever. His suit was his best feature, wasn’t it? Didn’t even have that anymore.

Marc Spector: Steven, give me the body right now. This is a suicide mission.
Layla El-Faouly: Plus, I know him. He’d want to lone wolf this whole thing. It’s not happening. We’re not going to do that.
Steven Grant: We are not. It’s just you and me, and the open road.
Layla El-Faouly: We’re going to go on foot from here.
Steven Grant: Yeah, alright.

Marc Spector: You look scared.
Steven Grant: I’m not.
Marc Spector: Well, you should be. Without Khonshu, there’s no more suit, no more healing, no more power.
Steven Grant: Yeah, no more you, I thought. It’s what you said, isn’t it? But, I guess, believing anything that comes out of your mouth just shows what a plonker I am.

Marc Spector: Look, I wish I could just disappear. I really do. But unfortunately, I’m still here. And if you’re going to go through with this, you got to be smar. At least for Layla’s sake. I’ve been in situations like this before.
Steven Grant: So have I. It’s the same body, isn’t it? It’s in there somewhere. Muscle memory and that.
Marc Spector: Yeah. I’m not sure it works that way.

Marc Spector: I’m here. You’re not alone.
Steven Grant: I know I’m not alone. I know I’m bloody not alone. I’ve got Layla. She’s got my back.
Marc Spector: Are you in love? Are you in love with my wife?
Steven Grant: I appreciate your concern, mate. I really do. But we’ve got it from here.
Marc Spector: You lay one finger on her, I swear to you, Steven. I swear, I’ll throw us off a cliff!
Steven Grant: If I need a recipe for a protein shak, or something, I’ll call you.

Steven Grant: I have to say, I feel like I’ve been waiting for this my whole life. The adventure, I mean.
Layla El-Faouly: I know. We want what we never had.
Steven Grant: Yeah.
Layla El-Faouly: You smell like him. I mean, why wouldn’t you, right?
Steven Grant: Yeah.

Steven Grant: [as Layla goes to kiss him] Marc’s trying to protect you from Khonshu. That’s why he’s been pushing you away. He thinks Khonshu wants you for his Avatar, and he won’t let that happen. I’m sorry. I just felt like you should know that. Sorry.
Layla El-Faouly: Why are you telling me this now?
Steven Grant: I don’t know. I just thought you deserved to know.
Layla El-Faouly: Well, it wasn’t his call to make. I don’t need protection. What I need is honesty.
Steven Grant: Yeah. I get that.
Layla El-Faouly: That’s more of a “you” thing, isn’t it?
Steven Grant: What? Being… Honesty?
Layla El-Faouly: Yeah. Being honesty.
[Steven kisses her]

Layla El-Faouly: [after they’ve kisses] I’m going to go down first.
Steven Grant: Okay. Yeah. Great.
Layla El-Faouly: Before I belay.
Steven Grant: Thank you. What’s “belay”?
Layla El-Faouly: I still can’t tell when you’re joking or not.

Steven Grant: [referring to the ancient statues] Like, if they just sprang to life right now, and asked me a riddle for passage, I’d be thrilled. I’d s**t myself, but I’d be thrilled.

Steven Grant: Strange.
Layla El-Faouly: It’s a maze.
Steven Grant: It’s a-maze-ing.

Marc Spector: [referring to Layla] So, you kissed her.
Steven Grant: What are you going to do? Try and drown us now?
Marc Spector: Yeah, I should. But you also told her the truth about why I’ve been pushing her away. And that was unexpected.

Arthur Harrow: You handled that beautifully.
Layla El-Faouly: Why do all men like you feel it necessary to be just so condescending?

Arthur Harrow: The scales achieve their judgment by revealing to me moments of sin and pain. And your husband, he is in agony. More pain than anyone could bear. But he still hasn’t told you the truth.
Layla El-Faouly: Well, you’re obviously dying to. So why don’t you just go ahead? The floor is yours.
Arthur Harrow: I read his scales. The scales do not lie.

Arthur Harrow: Your father was murdered by mercenaries. And no one knows who they were, do they?
Layla El-Faouly: You’re saying that Marc was one of them?
Arthur Harrow: You said it. What do you think? Marc remembers everything that happened that day. Everyone who died. But one man stands out. The man with a fuchsia scarf. Scarab details. Handmade. Made by his daughter perhaps.
Layla El-Faouly: Are you done?
Arthur Harrow: I do hope you find closure.

Steven Grant: Layla, look. We won. And the ushabti goes to us. I mean, I had to go digging down old Alexander the Great’s gullet, but I found it. You alright, love?
Layla El-Faouly: Can he hear me?
Steven Grant: Alexander? No, I don’t think so. God, I hope not.

Layla El-Faouly: Did you kill Abdullah El-Faouly?
Marc Spector: Of course not. Of course I didn’t!
Layla El-Faouly: But you were there. You were there. Yeah, you were there.
Marc Spector: I was there. Yeah, I was there.
Layla El-Faouly: Yeah. And how did he die?
Marc Spector: My partner got greedy, and he executed everyone at the dig site. I tried to save your father, but I couldn’t save him. And I…
Layla El-Faouly: No. But you brought a killer right to him. Right?
Marc Spector: Yeah. He shot me too. I was supposed to die that night. But I didn’t die that night. And I should have. I’ve tried to tell you since the moment we met. But I just didn’t know… I’m sorry.
Layla El-Faouly: Oh, my God. That’s the reason that we met. You just had a guilty conscience.

Arthur Harrow: Just you? The rest is silence. I remember the first morning I woke up knowing that Khonshu was gone. The quiet was liberating. You’re a free man. And, of course, with that freedom comes choice. And right now, you have a very important decision to make.
Marc Spector: Okay.
[he starts fighting off Harrow’s men, then Harrow shoots Marc]

Arthur Harrow: [after he shoots Marc] I can’t save anyone who won’t save themselves.

Arthur Harrow: [as Marc wakes in a psychiatric hospital filled with everyone he knows] I know that you’re having a great deal of difficulty being able to differentiate between what’s real and what’s in your head. I hope you don’t mind, but I took the liberty of borrowing the film you brought. It was fun to see that my old VHS player still worked. How many times would you say you’ve seen that movie? Approximately?

Arthur Harrow: [to Marc, referring to the adventure film “Tomb Buster”] I liked the villain. “No tree can ascend to the light of heaven if it doesn’t descend to the depths of hell.” That’s a good line. Yeah. The plot makes a real meal out of a lunar god. And didn’t you say that you worked for one? What do you make out of that similarity? I mean, given the production value of that film, I can’t imagine that too many other people have seen it. What do you think? Is that a coincidence?

Arthur Harrow: Remember, you’re only sedated because of your own behavior. And the effects will wear off soon. Marc, we don’t live in a material world. We live in a psychic world. Right? And we’re only able to make indirect inferences about the nature of reality. Like, take, for example, this pen, right? To me, this is a writing utensil. Right? To my dog, it’s a chew toy. Both are accurate. Right? It’s just a question of context and perspective. And all I’m asking of you is an honest assessment of your situation.

Marc Spector: Everything reminds me…
Arthur Harrow: Reminds you of what? Of your past? Of Steven?
Marc Spector: You know Steven?
Arthur Harrow: Of course I know Steven. But, Marc, I want to talk to you right now. And I have noticed, alright, in our sessions, a pattern developing. Every time I ask you direct questions, you are triggered, you’re overwhelmed, and that’s normal, alright? Many of us, when asked to look into our innermost experiences, into the nucleus of our personality, we close our eyes. It’s understandable. I can’t help you if you don’t help yourself.

Marc Spector: No, you stay away from me!
Arthur Harrow: Truly, I understand how you’re feeling. I too have suffered from mental illness, breaks in psychic awareness, manic episodes, followed by depression. I know what you’re feeling. You can be healed. I know you can be healed.
Marc Spector: Unlock the door!

Steven Grant: [after Marc finds him in a separate body inside a sarcophagus] How is this possible?
Marc Spector: I don’t know. What’s the last thing that you remember?
Steven Grant: Harrow shot us.
Marc Spector: Yes! Yes. Exactly. Exactly. Alright. We got to get out of here. Follow me. Come on.
[as they try to escape, they see another sarcophagus with someone else trapped inside, then they’re greeted by a hippo, who is Egyptian god Tawaret]

5. Asylum

Arthur Harrow: I didn’t shoot you. Your mind is violently vacillating between sense and nonsense. Picture this, alright? Your brain is a pendulum, swinging between a very difficult reality, that you are my patient, here at Putnam Medical Facility in Chicago, Illinois, and a reassuring fantasy that you’ve created on your own. That you’re some kind of, I don’t know, superhero. Alright? You are doing everything and everything possible not to look within.
Marc Spector: You’re not really a doctor.

Arthur Harrow: You told me that you were in a place that was oddly reminiscent of this office, except that it was in Egypt, right? And that you were with a rhinoceros, and…
Marc Spector: Hippopotamus.
Arthur Harrow: You’re right, it was a hippopotamus. But it talked. Now, what do you think? Do you think that is sense, or nonsense?
Marc Spector: Nonsense?
Arthur Harrow: I find this really encouraging. Honestly, I do.

Arthur Harrow: The struggling mind will often build places to seek shelter for different aspects of the self from our most traumatic memories. It’s called just an organizing principle, okay? Some people, they see a castle, right? Somebody else will see a maze, or a library.
Marc Spector: Or a psych ward?
Arthur Harrow: Yeah. Or it could be a psych ward. Yeah. What I find extremely interesting is this new, the new animal character.
Marc Spector: Hippopotamus?
Arthur Harrow: I find that really interesting. This hippo could break down the walls between you and Steven, and we might finally understand.

Marc Spector: Wow, these meds are really amazing.
Tawaret: Is he always so intense?
Steven Grant: Who, him? Yeah, pretty much.
Tawaret: So, are you two like twins?
Marc Spector: No.
Steven Grant: Well, yes. Sort of.
Tawaret: Okay, great. That’s really cleared this whole situation up for me.
Marc Spector: Well, that makes two of us. Just a second ago, I thought I’d been shot to death.
Tawaret: Oh, gosh! This will really bake your noodle, but I think you were just taking a little time-out. I’m afraid you’re actually quite dead.

Marc Spector: I’m dead? We’re dead?
Steven Grant: Yes. Yes, Marc. I think she’s right. I think we died.

Tawaret: Welcome, gentle Travelers, to the realm of the Duat.
Steven Grant: Duat? The Egyptian underworld. This is Taweret, goddess of women and children. And she’s guiding us through our journey to the afterlife.

Marc Spector: So, this is the afterlife? The afterlife?
Tawaret: An afterlife. Not the afterlife. You’d be surprised how many intersectional planes of untethered consciousness exist.
Marc Spector: Yeah.
Tawaret: Like the Ancestral Plane. Oh! Just gorgeous.

Tawaret: Because the Duat’s true nature is impossible for the human mind to comprehend, you may perceive this realm as something more easily recognizable to you. A psych ward’s a first for me. But, hey, we can roll with it, right?
Steven Grant: Why would we imagine this realm to be a psychiatric hospital?
Marc Spector: Because we’re insane. We’re insane. This talking hippo. Talking dead bird. You’re outside of my body now. And now the afterlife, right? That’s the reality. And this, the hospital, that’s the imagination.

Marc Spector: What is this?
Steven Grant: This is the underworld.
Marc Spector: I’m not crazy. I’m dead. Where did you say we’re going?
Steven Grant: We’re sailing to A’aru. To the Field of Reeds. Right, Taweret?
Tawaret: Ah, so he’s the smart one, hey? Well, if your heart’s balanced in life, then you will spend eternity in paradise. The Field of Reeds.

Tawaret: [as she takes out their heart] Oh, goody! It worked! Look at that! Here was little old me worrying I’d blow your chests wide open.
Steven Grant: Sorry, what?
Marc Spector: Wait, what’s she doing?
Steven Grant: She’s weighing our hearts on the Scales of Justice and the Feather of Truth.

Steven Grant: You see, the ancient Egyptians believed that the heart was the sign of who you really were in life. If the Scales balance by the time you end the journey, then a soul is permitted to pass into the Field of Reeds.
Marc Spector: What if they don’t balance?
Tawaret: You get thrown overboard. The dead will drag you down into the Duat, where you will remain forever, frozen in sand. No unbalanced souls on my boat. Them’s the rules. Fingers crossed for you guys, hey?

Marc Spector: I don’t care what this hippo says. There’s no way we’re ending up down there. And we’re not going to the Field of Reeds either.
Steven Grant: Alright. What are you proposing?
Marc Spector: If it comes to it, kill the hippo, steal the boat.

Tawaret: It’s the hearts. They aren’t full. And trust me, I’m a goblet half-full kind of gal, but it’s like they each feel incomplete.
Marc Spector: What does that mean?
Tawaret: Without balanced Scales, the Duat will eventually claim your soul.
Steven Grant: Do you have any other suggestions?
Tawaret: This boat contains all of a life’s memories. Now I don’t know what you two guys have been hiding, but my advice, get in there and show each other the truth. Balance your Scales before we arrive at the Field of Reeds, or your souls will be destroyed.

Marc Spector: You know what Layla would be alright with if she were here right now?
Steven Grant: Don’t. Just don’t say it.
Marc Spector: I’m just saying there is one hippo, and two of us, and this ship can’t be that hard to steer, so. And we don’t have to actually like…
Steven Grant: Have to what? Kill the Goddess Taweret?
Marc Spector: No. Just, you know, find me a rope, and…
Steven Grant: Yeah. Or we can do what she says, and help each other uncover whatever it is that we’re hiding, apparently.
Marc Spector: Steven, I don’t know about you, but my memories are a fricking mess.
Steven Grant: Yeah, mine too.

Steven Grant: Just a creepy caff filled with dead bodies. That’s all it is. No prizes guessing whose room this is. Yours.
Marc Spector: Funny.

Steven Grant: What, do you know these people? No. Oh, no. Surely not all of them? You killed all of them?
Marc Spector: They were criminals. Murderers. Predators. The worst of the worst. Khonshu wanted them punished. It’s what he meant by protecting the travelers of the night.
Steven Grant: And you remember each person?
Marc Spector: You try taking a life. See how quickly you forget. Kept wishing I’d fail and one of them would kill me instead. The healing ended up being a curse.

Steven Grant: Marc, why is there a child in a room filled with people that you’ve killed?
Marc Spector: Steven, look, don’t go near him.

Young Marc: He drew the fish with only one fin.
Wendy Spector: Marc, be nice to your little brother.
Steven Grant: I had a brother?

Young Marc: Laters, gators.
Wendy Spector: In a while, crocodile.

Wendy Spector: [to young Marc, referring to Randall] You were supposed to keep him safe!
Marc Spector: Steven, let’s go.
Wendy Spector: You let him drown. This is all your fault! This is all your fault!

Marc Spector: [to young Marc] You were always jealous of him. Ever since he was born. I should’ve known you would do something like this.
Steven Grant: Mum, what are you doing?

Steven Grant: Harrow said you were a mercenary. That you killed hostages.
Marc Spector: And you believe that?
Steven Grant: Yeah. Wouldn’t put it past you.
Marc Spector: Turns out going AWOL in a fugue state gets you discharged from the military. Didn’t have a ton of options after that, so I went work for hire for my old CO Bushman. The job was to raid an Egyptian tomb. But Bushman changed the plan, called for no witnesses, and I couldn’t live with that.
Steven Grant: Is that Doctor El Faouly? Layla’s dad?
Marc Spector: I tried to get them all away. But we didn’t make it. Clearly.
Steven Grant: What happened to you?
[Marc points to himself, where after being shot he crawls into the temple]

Khonshu: [as Marc is about to shoot himself] I feel the pain inside of you.
Marc Spector: What the hell are you?
Khonshu: I am the god Khonshu, in search of a warrior.
Marc Spector: A warrior. Well, good luck with that.
Khonshu: To be my hands, my eyes, my vengeance. To be my final word against the evildoers. To bind your very being to me, and eradicate only the worst, those who deserve it.

Khonshu: Do you want death, or do you want life?
Marc Spector: I don’t know.
Khonshu: Your mind, I feel it. Fractured. Broken. Most fascinating. You are a worthy candidate to serve me during this time. In exchange for your life, do you swear to protect the travelers of the night, and bring my vengeance to those who would do them harm?
Steven Grant: That sneaky old vulture. He was manipulating you from the start.
Marc Spector: Yeah, well, he kept us alive.
Steven Grant: Marc, he was taking advantage of you.
Marc Spector: Or it was just a way for me to keep being what I’ve always been. A killer.

Khonshu: Do you swear to protect the travelers of the night and bring my vengeance
to those who would do them harm?
Marc Spector: Yes.
Khonshu: Then rise. Rise and live again. As my fist of vengeance. As my Moon Knight.

Tawaret: Even if I could send you back up there, you’d just be returning to a body with a bullet in it. You wouldn’t be able to heal.
Steven Grant: Can you send word to Layla? Please. Help us free Khonshu.
Tawaret: Are you sure you want to be with Khonshu again? Seems like you really want to get away from him.
Marc Spector: I did, but this is our only shot. It’s the way it’s got to be. Please,
Steven Grant: Taweret, you have to help us. Please.
Tawaret: What the heck? Osiris is not going to like this, but his gate is the only path back.

Marc Spector: I’ll tell you everything. Okay? I’m just begging you, don’t make us go there again. It’s not worth it.
Steven Grant: Not worth it? Not worth it? Marc, you’re about to lose everything. Do you understand? If we don’t get back, and Harrow succeeds, and all those people die, if Layla dies, that’s on your head. It’ll be all your fault.

Marc Spector: Did you inject me with something?
Arthur Harrow: You watch too many movies, alright? We can’t involuntarily sedate patients. Not these days, huh? I mean, not unless absolutely necessary.

Arthur Harrow: [to Marc] I want you to consider this. Do you think you created Steven to hide from all of the awful things you feel you’ve done in your life, or do you think Steven created Marc to punish the world for what your mother did to you? Do you know? Can you remember? There’s only one way to know. You’re going to have to open up to Steven. There can be no progress without understanding. Can you do that? Can you open up to Steven?

Steven Grant: [from the Tomb Buster poster in young Marc’s room] “When danger is near, Steven Grant has no fear.” You made me up.

Marc Spector: [referring to his mother beating him when he was young] You’re not meant to see that. That’s the whole point of you.
Steven Grant: The point of me? The point of me? What? To be your stress ball? All this time I thought I was the original, but I’m just something that you made up.
Marc Spector: You’ve got to live a happy, simple, normal life. Do you understand?
Steven Grant: But it was all a lie, wasn’t it?
Marc Spector: So what? What does it matter?

Marc Spector: You want to remember the truth? That you had a mother that beats you? That hated you? That made your life a living hell?
Steven Grant: You’re lying. You’re just trying to upset me.
Marc Spector: But you’ve gotten to live thinking that she loved you. That she was kind. That she’s still alive!
Steven Grant: What? What are you talking about? She’s alive. I speak to her every day. What are you talking about?

Arthur Harrow: I’m here to help you.
Steven Grant: Dr. Harrow, yeah, is it?
Arthur Harrow: That’s right.
Steven Grant: Oh, yeah. Look at that. Well, you’ve really gone up in the world, haven’t you?
Arthur Harrow: I was beginning to worry we might never speak again.
Steven Grant: It’s so strange. The little haircut. Little silly ‘tache there. It’s very Ned Flanders.

Marc Spector: [to Steven] This is it. Mom’s death and Shiva two months ago. This was the moment our lives started bleeding into each other.

Steven Grant: Marc, all those horrible things that she said to you, she was wrong. It wasn’t your fault.
Marc Spector: [referring to Randall] I shouldn’t have brought him in that cave. I shouldn’t have brought him in the cave.
Steven Grant: Hey. Hey. You were just a child. It wasn’t your fault.

Steven Grant: Taweret, what’s happening?
Tawaret: I’ve never seen the gates to the world above so close.
Marc Spector: How do we open them?
Tawaret: I’m so sorry. Your Scales never balanced. Our journey’s come to an end. I cannot stop the inevitable. I was really rooting for you guys, but the unbalanced souls of the Duat now must claim yours.

Steven Grant: [as the souls are dragging Marc away] Marc, you’ve got this. But if I’m you, it means I’ve got this too.

Steven Grant: [as he hits the souls with a bat] I prefer cricket.

Marc Spector: [after Steven falls overboard and is consumed by the Duat] No, no, no! Steven! Stop the boat! Stop the boat!
Tawaret: Your Scales are balanced.
[Marc finds himself in the Field of Reeds]

6. Gods and Monsters

Arthur Harrow: I’m sorry it had to be this way, Marc Spector, Steven Grant, whoever else might be in there. Sometimes we need the cold light of death before we can see reality.

Patrol Guard #1 (Tawaret): Layla, wait. I am the Goddess Taweret.
Patrol Guard #2 (Tawaret): Layla, it’s Marc who’s telling you to stop.
Layla El-Faouly: What the hell is this?
Patrol Guard #2 (Tawaret): He’s dead. And I’m talking to you through dead people right now. So what?

Patrol Guard #2 (Tawaret): Listen, Harrow is too powerful for you to stop him alone. If Marc, if he can return to life…
Layla El-Faouly: What do you mean, “return to life”?
Patrol Guard #2 (Tawaret): He is going to need Khonshu. Break his ushabti. It’s in the Chamber of the Gods. And you can be my Avatar. Marc says wonderful things about you.
Layla El-Faouly: No, no, no. I’ll fight him on my own.

Arthur Harrow: [to his followers] You won’t believe what the Gods have hidden from mankind.

Ammit: Your Scales lack balance.
Arthur Harrow: I understand. I had hoped my penance might correct my imbalance, but I see now that’s impossible. I accept the Scales regardless of the outcome.
They lack balance because of what lies ahead of you.
Arthur Harrow: Then we must spare the world the pain I will cause. I willingly submit.

Ammit: What lies ahead of you is your service to me.
Arthur Harrow: How may I serve you in death?
Ammit: Your death is delayed. I once relied on a servant whose Scales balanced perfectly. In exchange, I was bound to stone for two thousand years.
Arthur Harrow: But I have disciples all over the world whose Scales balance perfectly, awaiting your command. They are worthy, my Goddess.
Ammit: But you are the one who set me free. You are the Avatar that I need. Serve me, and you will find peace. Do not let the pain of the past control you.
Arthur Harrow: As you wish.

Khonshu: I do not sense Marc Spector in this world. He died fighting, no doubt.
Layla El-Faouly: Fighting your war.
Khonshu: And it’s far from over.

Khonshu: If Marc is truly gone, I am in need of an Avatar. Would you, Layla El-Faouly, protect the travelers of the night?
Layla El-Faouly: Are you joking? You turned Marc’s life into a waking nightmare. Why would I ever sign up for that?
Khonshu: Because you won’t win against Harrow and Ammit alone.
Layla El-Faouly: I’ll take my chances.

Khonshu: Marc was in crisis over you. His lack of focus got him killed. You need a plan, little bug. What I offer…
Layla El-Faouly: I don’t care what you can offer. Marc didn’t trust you. I don’t trust you. We’ll work together without me enslaving myself.

Khonshu: We must rebind Ammit.
Layla El-Faouly: How?
Khonshu: Only an Avatar can do it.
Layla El-Faouly: I said no.

Tawaret: The Scales are balanced. Your heart is full. Your journey is over.
Marc Spector: It’s so quiet.
Tawaret: The peace you’ve always wanted but never had. You’re manifesting it. No danger. No loneliness or hurt.
Marc Spector: What about Steven?
Tawaret: He’s gone, Marc. The Duat has him. Please enjoy your peace.

Marc Spector: [referring to Steven] We need to go back for him.
Tawaret: It doesn’t work like that. Leave here, and you can’t return. Anyway, you don’t need him anymore, Marc.
Marc Spector: So I get to go on to eternal peace, and he just stays lost in the sand forever? No, I’m not good with that.
Tawaret: Wait! Think about this!

Ammit: My path is set, same as anyone’s. I’m here to bring balance.
Khonshu: You speak of balance, yet you choose him. Your Avatar is a sinner!
Ammit: You’re jealous of his loyalty.
Khonshu: Loyalty at what cost? An empty world for your disciples to inherit?
Arthur Harrow: Don’t listen to him. He only wants to keep you bound.

Marc Spector: [to Steven] Looking pretty rough, man. I don’t know if you can hear me. From the moment you arrived, way back then, we were so young. You saved me. I survived because I knew I wasn’t alone. You were always there, alive, full of hope. And I tried to protect that, and I failed. I couldn’t protect you. But you didn’t abandon me. You didn’t abandon me. And although that field back there was looking, it was looking pretty good. There’s no way in hell I’m going to abandon you. You are the only real superpower I ever had.

Steven Grant: You came back? What the hell’s wrong with you?
Marc Spector: Well, I did a whole little speech there.
Steven Grant: It wasn’t that little.
[they embrace]

Khonshu: [after Marc and Steven awaken in their own body] I feel the pain inside of you. Do you want death, or do you want life? Do you swear to protect the travelers of the night? Rise and live again!
[Marc rises and transform into Moon Knight]

Khonshu: I knew you’d miss me.
Marc Spector (Moon Knight): Layla turned you down, didn’t she?
Khonshu: Ammit has been freed. I was not strong enough to stop her. Marc Spector, I need your help.
Steven Grant (Mr. Knight): Just curious about something. How is this whole new arrangement going to work then?
Khonshu: Steven Grant, I was not speaking to you.
Steven Grant (Mr. Knight): Yeah, alright. But we do come as like a package deal now, so you are going to have to deal with me. And we did just save your life. So, you’re welcome for that.

Steven Grant (Mr. Knight): How is this deal going to work?
Khonshu: You would negotiate now, with so much at stake?
Steven Grant (Mr. Knight): Well, we did learn from the best, you silly old bird.
Khonshu: I will release you both. You have my word.
Steven Grant (Mr. Knight): I like the sound of that. Good. Glad we got that all sorted out.

Steven Grant (Mr. Knight): Now, how the heck are we going to get to Cairo?
Khonshu: You forget, little worm, I am still the God of the Night Sky!
Steven Grant (Mr. Knight): Alright, you know what? I think you can take this one, Marc.
Khonshu: Hurry up, idiots!

Layla El-Faouly (Tawaret): You’ve changed your mind. I would be delighted to accept you as my Avatar.
Layla El-Faouly: Okay. Okay. Temporary Avatar.
Layla El-Faouly (Tawaret): Yes, of course! Oh, your father is going to be over the moon when he hears.
Layla El-Faouly: My father?
Layla El-Faouly (Tawaret): Yes! I met him when I took him to the Field of Reeds.
Layla El-Faouly: What?
Layla El-Faouly (Tawaret): Are we doing this or what? I have a fabulous costume in mind.

Ammit: There is so little difference in what we want for this world. Why do this dance for the rest of time?
Khonshu: You know the answer. I only punish those who have chosen evil.
Ammit: So do I. Only I don’t give them the satisfaction of committing it!

Marc Spector: Oh, baby. Thank God you’re okay.
Layla El-Faouly: How did you get back?
Steven Grant: Wow, you look amazing. What are you wearing?

Ammit: Why fight, knowing you will fail?
Khonshu: Because it is my choice! The very thing you take away.

Steven Grant: I’m really jazzed about showing you these new skillsets we have.
Layla El-Faouly: Alright. Show me what you got.
Steven Grant: Yeah?

Young Egyptian Woman: [in Arabic] Are you an Egyptian superhero?
Layla El-Faouly: [in Arabic] I am.

Arthur Harrow: [as he’s fighting with Moon Knight] Had Ammit been allowed to rule, young Randall’s life would’ve been saved, your family would’ve been happy. She need only remove one weed from the garden. You.

Marc Spector: [as he wakes from another blackout] That wasn’t you, was it, Steven?
Steven Grant: Not a chance, mate.

Khonshu: Finish it, and leave neither of them alive. While he lives, so too does she.
Marc Spector: I have to finish this. If not, I’ll never be free.
Layla El-Faouly: [as Marc is about to kill Harrow] Marc! You have a choice. You are free.
Khonshu: The choice is vengeance. We cannot take the chance that Ammit finds a way out. She will kill again.
Marc Spector: Now you sound just like her. You want them dead, do it yourself. Now, release us.
Khonshu: As you wish.

Steven Grant: [back in the imaginary asylum again] So what, this is what reality looks like?
Arthur Harrow: The imagination is very real. This chair, desk, the light, were all first created in the imagination.
Steven Grant: But do you believe that Khonshu and Ammit are real?
Arthur Harrow: Do I? No.
Marc Spector: What if we disagree, Doc?

Marc Spector: What if we believe something different?
Arthur Harrow: Then our work here continues.
Steven Grant: For how long?
Arthur Harrow: For as long as a piece of string.
Marc Spector: [as they see Harrow leaving bloody footprints] Hey, you see that, don’t you?
Steven Grant: Oh, yeah. I see it. I see it.

Arthur Harrow: Why am I bleeding?
Steven Grant: Yeah, I don’t think you know as much as you think you do.
Marc Spector: And while it is tempting to accept your diagnosis, Doc…
Steven Grant: We’d rather go save the world. Laters, gators.

Marc Spector: [as he wakes in Steven’s London apartment] Steven? You there?
Steven Grant: I can’t believe it worked.
Marc Spector: I can’t believe you live in this fricking mess.

Arthur Harrow: [mid-credits lines, after he’s been taken out of the psychiatric hospital] Khonshu. You can’t hurt us.
Khonshu: Yeah. You want to know something? Marc Spector truly believed that after he and I parted ways, I wanted his wife to be my Avatar. Why would I ever need anybody else when he has no idea how troubled he truly is? Meet my friend, Jake Lockley.
Jake Lockley: [in Spanish, we see Marc as Jake] Today is your turn to lose.
Arthur Harrow: Wait.
[Jake shoots Harrow]
